I'd rate this place 100/5 stars if I could! When my partner and I were booking our trip to Kauai, the one thing I *really* wanted to do was book a beach side couples massage. We looked around and I was immediately taken with Hanalei Day Spa, because the owner's passion was palpable, even across the internet. We arrived and were cheerfully greeted by the owner at the front desk, and she was more than happy to explain the process and answer our questions. She introduced us to our massage therapists, Renata and Lou, and we followed them to a gorgeous set up with shade and the waves in the background. Both Renata and Lou asked us about our aches and pains and injuries, and let us know how they planned to run our 50 min massage. They told us to undress to our comfort, made sure we were happy with the table height, and asked if we need more or less pressure as they started, I've never felt so considered in a massage setting before! As our massages ended and went back to the lobby to settle up, the owner asked us how our experiences were, and I blurted out "I've never felt so loose!" But as soon as the words left my mouth, I realized that not only was I looser than ever, but I was standing straight without hunching my spine AND that the pain I've carried in my back and shoulders for the last 20 years was GONE. Not lessened, not eased, but absolutely and unequivocally, gone. As I realized this I started to cry happy/relief tears; I couldn't help it! I'd never have imagined a 50 min massage could eliminate years and years of accumulated pain. I started to apologize for crying, and the owner started tearing up herself and told me to "never apologize for beautiful emotion", which only made me cry more. It's been a few days since, and my back has stayed straight, my pain has stayed gone, and my gratitude (to Renata especially) only grows deeper. It's clear that this spa is run by people who are dedicated, caring, knowledgeable, and incredibly sweet. I can't thank them enough! read more

We booked beachside 80-minute massages for a bachelorette group, and the experience was unforgettable. Getting there, however, was not without its challenges. First, one of the cars in our group had its undercover ripped off by a cement block while pulling out of the driveway. We had to turn back, leave the damaged car at our Airbnb, and swap vehicles before continuing on. Then, along the way, we hit a road closure that caused another delay. At this point, the GPS was telling us we would be about five minutes late, so we decided to call ahead to let the spa know, worried we might lose our spots or be charged a fee. To our surprise and relief, the owner answered with kindness and reassurance. She told us everything would work out and that we would still have a perfect experience. Her warm, calming response completely eased our anxiety when she could have just as easily been strict or unwelcoming. We arrived exactly five minutes late, but the staff immediately accommodated our first group while the rest of us waited in the front office, chatting with the owner. As we talked about our car troubles and mentioned we were planning to buy zip ties to hold the undercover in place, she quietly made a phone call. Just ten minutes later, her husband showed up with a handful of zip ties for us. It was such a thoughtful gesture that showed how much they truly care about their guests. When it was finally my turn, I chose the Lomi Lomi massage. I was a little nervous because I wanted light pressure without it being too soft or superficial, and I also have a low tolerance for pain. My masseuse delivered exactly what I hoped for, with the perfect balance of gentle yet effective technique. At one point, I drifted into such a deep state of relaxation that my thoughts faded away into complete stillness. It felt like slipping into a meditative state of pure bliss. The beachside setting made the entire experience even more magical. The sound of the waves replaced the need for any background music, seagulls added to the atmosphere, and occasional breezes off the ocean cooled the air in the most refreshing way. Hanalei Day Spa went above and beyond, offering not just skilled massages but genuine kindness and hospitality. Even though their schedule was fully booked, they made us feel welcomed and never like a burden. After 22 years in business, it is clear why they have built such a strong reputation. My sister-in-love and I came to the island to get some much needed time away and to rest and reset. We booked our massages at Hanalei Day spa after seeing the wonderful reviews and it did not disappoint! My massage artist was Hannah and my sis had Ginger. We chose the Lomi Lomi Oceanside massage. I am telling you it was the absolute best massage I have ever had...and I've had some good ones. It was the perfect amount of pressure and gentle relaxing massage. I was there after losing my husband to cancer 3 years earlier, I was his caregiver. I knew I was still carrying the heavy grief, but didn't realize how much until Hannah was massaging my upper chest heart area and I began to feel a sensation of heaviness and began to cry. It was such a release. And not to get overly spiritual, but it was a feeling of emotional healing. If you are coming to Kauai this is a bucket list item. I will definitely be back! We booked an 80 minute couples beachside deep tissue massage ($550) with exfoliation ($40) and Darci the owner was able to fit us in due to a cancellation. Location: Hanalei Day Spa is located within the Hanalei Colony Resorts parking lot. The in-spa facilities are in a small bungalow style building with a small seating/lobby/reception area, shop & 3 small spa rooms. Their beachside massages are located in front of the beach. There's a hut set up and a tent set up. Hearing the ocean waves & trade winds was amazing! We love/stay in Hanalei & the north shore area. Booking process was easy. I tried to book online but they were sold out. I left a text request in case they had a cancellation. We lucked out. Forms: They send you an intake form to fill out online in advance. In theory this was great because you can do it where you have good WiFi & saved you time from doing paperwork onsite. In practice, their therapists don't really read what you request. I'll get to that later. Service: Good & bad. This was a couples massage. I got a really good therapist, my husband had THE VERY WORST deep tissue massage he's ever had. Let's start with the good. My therapist was Lou. When she was starting (this is when they start massage over the sheet) I noticed zero pressure. I immediately told her I needed more pressure. I was skeptical because I thought I hope she does a good job. Well after I spoke up, she fully understood the assignment and really did an amazing job. I was relaxed and happy, all my knots worked out. The bad: My husband had a male therapist (tall guy with glasses, forgot his name). He just went about his massage thinking I booked a deep tissue massage, that's what I'm getting. He got no arms or elbows on any part of his body. I told him why didn't you say anything? He said, I thought it was going to get better. In the end he got a light touch massage which is not what we booked. What was point of the form? Overall, I have mixed feelings. I had a great experience, my husband didn't. I don't think guests should have to guess if they get a great massage or a bad one. How does a therapist not know what a deep-tissue massage is? Their intake form states, it's on you if you don't specify the pressure or don't communicate with therapist during massage. This must be a Kauai thing. Never had to do this anywhere. Every massage I've been to has trained therapists who know what to do. Would I return? Nope. I would look for a better overall experience. This makes me sad. Update: I received a call from Darci the owner. We spoke and she explained that she too was upset that my husband did not have a great experience. She may have offered a resolution had my husband spoken up so he could receive the treatment he wished for. read more

We were staying in Princeville and researched spas in the area. We normally go to hotels spas in Poipu and we're going to book the same place but the drive from Princeville to was not what we wanted on our last day. And, we really wanted to be inside and not beachside due to I always get bit by mosquitoes. I found Hanalei day spa online and called right away greeted by Darci and gave me information and said she would text me details of website. We were so busy and didn't have a change to book until we arrived in Kauai. I texted Darci and she was able to accommodate our appointment for the couples package that is a body scrub and 60/90 massage. The drive to Hanalei was so relaxing and beautiful, when we were almost to the end, the Hanalei Spa was located at the Hanalei hotel and the minute you get out of your car you could hear the crashing waves. We were warmly welcomed into the spa by Darci and immediately taken by the masseuses to a cute couples private room with its own bathroom which was a plus. The window allowed a cool breeze in and the crashing waves for the ultimate relaxation experience. We go to Hawaii every year and always get a spa treatment and this by far is at the top of our list. The lomi lomi massage followed by the sea salt scrub was A M A Z I N G! Our only regret is we wished we booked 2 treatments this week at this spa. February 6, 2025, I went to Hanalei Day Spa, Kauai, HI, looking forward to a relaxing massage. Unfortunately, it didn't happen for several reasons. First, before I arrived, I was emailed a rather lengthy, invasive intake form. I had trouble filling it out since it was so lengthy. when I arrived at the Spa, Darci, the owner and receptionist, seemed to be irritated that I had not completed the intake form. I asked if I could have a paper copy since I was having trouble seeing the one online. She told me no, and that she thought it would be fun for me to enjoy making the font larger. Eventually, I was able to complete the form using paper. The Hanalei Day Spa website says that there are massage therapists to choose from. Not so in my case. I was introduced to Roman, a man,who had been assigned to me. I didn't want a male masseuse and said so. However, it became apparent that I had no choice. I made an appointment for a regular massage. I believe it was $140. So Roman started my massage and once it was underway, he asked me how the pressure was, too soft? too hard? I said he could go a bit harder. When the massage was over, I gave Darci my credit card. She announced that I would be charged for a Deep Tissue massage-- an additional $20. I was confused. I didn't realize by saying Roman could go deeper that meant it automatically turned into a different treatment. Darci tried to explain, as I did. Our conversation was not a calm one. in my opinion, as the owner of the spa, she should have been more graceful. The tone of her voice and some of her remarks made her sound like a bully. What should have been a pleasant experience, turned into a troubled one. So, my advice to anyone wanting a Spa day, do a bit of research. I would not return to Hanaleigh Day Spa. However, if you do go for a massage, be very specific about what treatment you are paying for and what your expectations are. And leave plenty of time to complete a lengthy intake form. read more

As a knowledgeable person on the many types of massage techniques, I was disappointed with the massage itself and the pricing attached to it I paid the additional $20 up-charge for lomi-lomi technique and/or deep tissue, it was obvious that the massage therapist didn't know how or simply did not use a lomi-lomi technique during my 50-minute session which cost me $160! I would have been better off with the basic massage which was listed as light and relaxing I typically call this type of massage- oil rubbing My 10 year old could have done the same job and for free. I wish I could base this review off of an actual massage but alas it will be based on their customer service. I booked a massage online on a Wednesday evening for 2pm on that same Friday and was asked to move it up to noon, which was fine so I confirmed via text. The next day, I found out my schedule changed and even though I could have made the Friday appointment, I texted Darci to see if it would be an issue to change to Sunday instead. I wasn't able to call because I was held up all day but was told by text that they have a 72-hour cancellation policy. So I went to look at their policy. It states "If we do not receive your email request to change/cancel within 72 hours, you are charged full value." This is not a "don't cancel within 72 hours of your appointment" policy but rather a "cancel within 72 hours of booking" - which I was. So why did Darci threaten me with a cancellation charge if she was said she would be unable to fill the time? I wasn't going to argue so I texted back and said that if it's an issue and that I would be charged then to disregard my request. She said if she can fill it and take me Sunday then it would be fine so I texted back asking about Sunday options. No response after that so it seemed like that was it. Note, I never actually said to cancel my appointment, I only asked about my options (happy to show text receipts). Next day, I drove an hour to my original appointment Friday at noon to find out she had given my spot away because she "assumed I didn't want it anymore." Who runs a business on assumptions like that? She was going to look for another time but at that point I said not to bother because at this point I had a bad taste in my mouth and told her to text me an actual cancel confirmation and that I would not be charged. I guess it worked out since I saved $240 on an overpriced 80 minute massage anyway. Almost forgot, when you book your appointment you get enrolled in weird conspiracy emails that are 10 pages long and talk about things like how sunscreen makes you fat (wish I was making this up). Weirdest spam ever. Oh and the owner can't get my name right twice now, first it was Karena and then it was Karen. read more

To say I was skeptical is an understatement. I was out of my element for certain. I booked the couples 80 minute with the salt scrub "mainly for my wife". Darci greeted us and as Paul Harvey use to say "The rest of the story". I've had literally hundreds of massages and I have say if this wasn't the "best" ever, it's certainly close. I cannot remember one in recent times that tops this. Ramon was the quintessential professional and is definitely a "master" of his craft. I don't recall the masseuse my wife had but she according to my wife, was equally as talented. Darci noticed a bit of a limp when I exited our vehicle and mentioned this to Ramon. I'm due for a new knee replacement but if I lived here full time, well I'd be making a weekly trip to Hanalei Day Spa Instead. Rest assured if you make the trip to North Island you will be not only glad you did but 100% more relaxed because of it. I can't go above 5 stars but I would if I could...... Thank you. We were greeted warmly and then our magic hands massage therapists, Christina and Victor, escorted us to the beachside hut. Owner is completely aloof. I booked online, the system booked me for two sessions, then the owner called me and neither of those times were available. Not a problem, I rescheduled the entire day to fit what they did have available. No problem. The following day the owner texts try to move one of the times she told me the previous was not available and that a male would the therapist. Ok, no problem. I explain this has been sorted and that my wife would prefer a female therapist. 1.5 hours before the appointment she sends a text that she is cancelling the appointment and that I should refer to her web page that she cannot guarantee a female therapist. I never said my wife wouldn't do the massage if she didn't have a female therapist available, I stated she would prefer a female therapist. Complete waste of time. read more

Our massage therapist was awesome as well, professional and perfect pressure. -1 star - We were supposed to have a mother daughter 80 min massage for 2- on the beach. There was an online special for $399 for 2 80 min beach side massages. We arrive and there is only one therapist and we are put in a room because we no longer were doing both of us at the same time and offered us 1 - 80 minute massage to share (40 min and 40 min). I was charged for an 80 min massage but the regular price not 1/2 of the the special 1/2 of $399 which wasn't our fault it was cancelled so I wasn't a fan of that decision considering we didn't also didn't get to hear the waves while getting the massage. Anyways first world problems lol- but it wasn't cheap so this is why I feel that way I do. I can get an equally good one hour massage in San Diego for $75. read more

I've had quite a few massages all over the world (mostly Asia and Europe). But this was transformative. One of the best! We opted for the couples massage on the beach and it was sublime. With only the crashing waves and wind to hear, the ambience was perfect. The staff were extremely friendly and professional. My masseur, Temple, was excellent. I opted for the deep tissue treatment, and Temple went to just the right level of deep, yet gentle.
