Could not recommend them more. If you are considering camping in Kauai save yourself the trouble of packing all your gear and trying to get odds and ends on the island and just go with Kauai rooftop campers. They have thought of everything you could need and provide it. All you need to do is bring yourself, your clothes, and grab some food to keep in the provided cooler and cook on the super convenient camping stove :) and sunscreen. Definitely bring that. The car was super clean and drove fantastic - we did the mclovin 4 runner. We were able to do a seamless distance check in since our flight arrived after ours, and drop off was just as easy. The most important thing to note - camping in Kauai comes with a ton of information to be aware of. Such as where camping is allowed, what kind of camping is allowed, places to avoid because of conditions, etc. KRC provides you with an *extensive* guide on all of that and how to use all of their equipment and their expert suggestions. I was feeling overwhelmed about having this be a camping trip until we booked with them. It truly made it a breeze and so enjoyable. We loved our experience and if we have the privilege of returning to Kauai we'll definitely use KRC again. read more

We went to Kauai at the end of August 2025. We chose to split up our trip and do 5 days tent camping and then move on to an Airbnb. Kauai Rooftop Campers gave us an incredible experience to see the island! We felt so prepared with the vacation guide they provided! They were so nice and responsive. After night one it was easy to get the hang of popping up the rooftop tent! All supplies given were very useful! We stayed at Kumu Camp the first few nights and moved up North to YMCA camp. Kumu Camp had beautiful sunrises, but we probably would not stay there again. We were there Friday-Sunday and kept awake all night by people doing donuts on the beach in their trucks, revving their engines and shining their lights toward our tents. I would just be mindful and not stay here on a weekend. YMCA was a beautiful place (less sandy to camp at). Still direct access to the beach. We got lucky and were the only ones staying at this property. Side note: We loved snorkeling at Tunnels Beach! Over all AMAZING EXPERIENCE and would definitely do this again! read more

I cannot express how wonderful our experience was! We arranged for an airport pickup with KRC, and our driver, Ryan (who also works for KRC) gave us a great intro for the company and so many inside tips and tricks! When we arrived to KRC, Jeni and Ryan hooked us up with everything we could have needed, including soap, cooking equipment, linens, and even a French press for coffee! Due to where we camped, we could not use the rooftop camper, but we slept comfortably with the ground tent. We also absolutely love that KRC had an incentive to collect trash (which we would have done anyway but still)! We will definitely be back for a longer stay and will 100% be booking with KRC again! Pro tip: if you book with them, read their guide!!! It helped us save money and see so many cool local spots. Make sure to respect the equipment too!! I had an amazing experience renting this camper! The vehicle was incredibly clean and very reliable throughout the entire trip, which gave me a lot of peace of mind while traveling. The rooftop tent felt surprisingly safe and was really easy to set up and pack away, even after a long day of driving. All of the gear that came with the camper--tables, chairs, the stove, and other essentials--was in great condition and clearly well maintained. It made camping comfortable and convenient without having to worry about bringing extra equipment. Customer support was also excellent. Communication was quick, friendly, and very helpful whenever I had a question. The team did a fantastic job making the whole process smooth and stress-free, from pickup to drop-off. Overall, this rental made our trip so much more enjoyable and fun. KRC's Tacoma with roof top tent was the best way to explore Kauai for our family honeymoon. KRC provided top-notch equipment, and everything was spotless, high-quality, and reliable. We camped at the beach and the Canyon, and cooked all of our own meals using the stove and utensils in the truck. The roof-top tent was as easy to set up as closing a packed suitcase. It was roomy. It fit two adults (I'm 6'2 and 240 lbs) and one 8-year-old (very cozy). There was one campsite that was ground tent-only camping, and KRC had provided a huge, easy-to-set-up ground tent just in case that happened. They maintain their vehicles and equipment in fantastic condition, but they also expect you to take good care of their stuff as well. We were careful and slow on the secluded roads just as if it was our own stuff and it worked out really well. I can't wait to go back and we will definitely rent from KRC again. read more

Only Rooftop Camper Rental Company I will ever use! I used KRC in 202 right before COVID hit. I loved the experience and the small business support. This trip was no different and only cemented my future use. Check in was perfect for me. All papaers signed before I showed up. Jenni was amazing to work with. We had an issue with our bedding we didn't know until we started setting up at 8 pm. She drove to out campsite to take care of the issue and give us new bedding. They give everything you need to camp. Will always rent from them when we visit. Just be advised they do not recommend going to Polihale and insurance doesn't cover damages off paved roads. You take the full risk of paying for the veh if you go out there. I own the same truck and understand how to operate it on roads like that. You go there at your own risk. No hidden fees and plenty of communication with reservation staff. read more

Really cool Jeep -- it's in very good condition (and cool looking too)! The car was very clean when we got it, as was the tent. The rooftop tent was very easy to handle and comes with an embedded mattress that's quite comfortable. We had some windy nights with light rain, and the tent stood steady -- it felt safe. The car is super well equipped. Upon check-in we were provided with kitchen utensils, bedding, a foldable table, camp chairs, drinking water, snorkel equipment, and more -- nothing we had to worry about. We also got very detailed local recommendations ranging from activities to campgrounds, guides, and restaurants. The team was really helpful and easy to communicate with. One of their most recommended campsites is the YMCA campground on the North Shore, close to the Kalalau Trail -- it's a true gem, and we definitely recommend spending a night there. read more

We absolutely love camping and car camping, and this was honestly the best decision we could have made on this beautiful island. It made our trip unforgettable. The company is amazing -- the support team is always available and answers all questions quickly and clearly. Communication was great from start to finish. Sleeping in the rooftop tent was such a pleasure -- comfortable, safe, and a truly unique experience. We loved it. We stayed at Kokee (spot 9) and Kumu (spot 3), and everything was simply perfect. Both campsites were great, and being able to sleep on top of the car made the experience even better. Kauai Rooftop Campers and the Tacoma we rented were the best ways to explore the island of Kauai. We were only in Kauai for a (much too short) 48-hour period of jam-packed hiking, camping, and exploring, with beaches, waterfalls, and jungles along the way. The vehicle was equipped with a roof-top tent, a ground tent, bedding, towels, a cooler, potable water, kitchen equipment, a camp stove, converters, headlamps, and everything you need in a camping scenario. The only thing I'd like to point out in this review is that Kumu Camp is the only campsite on Kauai that allows rooftop tents. However, this is not a mark against Kauai Rooftop Campers as this was noted in the Airbnb listing, and they included a ground tent for state and county campsites. read more

KRC is the BEST!! What a perfect way to explore the island... we were able to experience all the hidden gems Kauai has to offer with our camper, way better than being stuck at a resort. Sleeping under the stars on a remote beach is exactly what Kauai is all about! Pure magic. Plus, Jonathan and Jamie were incredibly friendly, professional, and helpful. They gave us loads of great tips to get the most out of our vacation - they really know the island! Loved it! My wife and I are outdoorsy, adventure-types, staying in hotels doesn't cut it for us. When we discovered Kauai Rooftop Campers online we were stoked--what better way to experience Hawaii for the first time. We were out in nature and under the stars, and in minutes we were able to go from travel mode to sleep mode--ha! The roof top tent was a rich touch/experience, far better than a ground tent, and it made having the ability to camp on the beach much easier! KRC set us up with everything we needed. I have only great things to say about renting with Kauai Rooftop Campers! Everything was smooth for me and my partner. It was also great to be able to get free airport pickup when we arrived, this helped us immensely. Check in was extremely easy, and the jeep came with everything that we needed for the several days that we were going to be in Kauai. We used the ground tent as we were staying at Anahola Beach campground, which prohibits rooftop campers, and it was perfect! We had 8 days on beautiful Kauai in the grey Toyota Tacoma truck. What an awesome, clean, reliable machine! It brought us everywhere and I felt like the king sitting in such a strong machine. Camping was a pleasure with the safe and easy the rooftop tent, great in all weather conditions. On top of that, they provided a complete gear set for camping, so we could immediately start our trip hasslefree! I couldn't recommend them enough! Jenni was soo sweet and the drivers they hire are also amazing. ( Ron and Joette). I felt super safe and the truck was perfect! Everything was in good condition and it came with so many amenities! There is some dents/ scratches/ rust but the trucks experience lots of weather so the rust makes so much sense plus many different people renting/ accidents happen. I don't think I'd stay in a hotel ever again lol. What an experience it was and so much more intimate for me and my partner. They offer so much info help and are super responsive! read more
