I have been coming to kaufman eye institute for glasses for several years. I highly recommend them. The front desk staff is friendly, and if there is going to be a wait they let me know. Although it's only rarely happened in the past few years, they offered me water when they were running late. I thought this was nice touch. Running behind doesn't happen often, but they are prepared to accommodate you just in case. Jennifer, the technician, worked me up prior to seeing the doctor. She is very sweet! After Jennifer was finished, I saw dr. Kaufman. He was personable and kind. He said my glasses prescription had changed and my eyes were overall healthy. Next, I went to the optical and they had a great selection of glasses. Misha, the optician, helped me pick some out frames. She didn't pressure me into buying anything which was refreshing. Other optical shops have made me feel pressured to buy expensive frames I did not want. Not the case at kaufman eye institute! I ended up buying a cute pair of glasses. I no longer dread my annual eye exams, thanks to kaufman eye for making my appointments such a pleasant experience. read more

Find another local eye doctor. This place has horrible customer service! They tell you your appointment time (which is actually 15 minutes before your appointment, but they don't disclose that unless you clarify). = Deceitful I was told that if I was not in their office a FULL 15 minutes before my scheduled appointment (to complete all their paperwork) and I was not able to complete the paperwork before the appointment time, I WOULD HAVE TO RESCHEDULE. Have you EVER experienced such bull? So, I got to my appointment 15 minutes before the scheduled time and guess what? It DID not take 15 minutes to complete the paperwork and more importantly, they did not call me back to the exam room for a FULL 10 minutes after the scheduled time. So, basically, these people are arrogant, and snotty, and THEY BELIEVE THEIR TIME IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN YOURS!!! Do yourself a favor and go with someone else. I am now using Opti-mart and have no complaints. read more

I visited the Zephyrhills location for a routine eye exam and to get a new pair of glasses. The office was very clean and the waiting area had plenty of seating as well. The nurse at the front desk was very helpful and assisted me with filling out my initial screening forms. The entire staff was very knowledgeable and they made me feel comfortable throughout the process. My optometry assistant, Ivy, was friendly and I could tell she had a lot of experience dealing with patients in the past. After my exam they even assisted me with picking out a perfect pair of glasses since my eyes were dilated and I couldn't see too clearly. I live in Georgia and thought I would have to pay to ship the glasses, but they were willing to cover those costs as well! I definitely had a great experience and recommend it to anyone who has eye care needs. read more

DO NOT USE DR. MUNGER. When I first came in to discuss getting upper blepharoplasty done on my eyelids I was told "3 weeks and you'll be fine" as far as recovery time. Here I am 4 months later having to pay more money for a revision surgery by another surgeon on top of the $3500 I paid out of pocket for the original surgery done by Munger. NOT ONLY is his bedside manner horrible (comes in for 2 seconds after you wait there for at least 40 minutes.), NOT ONLY did he not take the proper time to go over important things with me such as aftercare or what to realistically expect recovery wise post surgery, NOT ONLY did he leave my left eye completely unmatching my right eye with incredibly obvious scars (3 months before my wedding), but the last straw was when I went in 4 months later to express my unsatisfaction, he first tried telling me that he didn't see the problem (the issues were VERY obvious not only to me but friends and family as well). Then he tried making me feel like I was being nit picky. THEN tried charging me $700 to fix it. 3 months until my wedding, I'm down $3500 plus the money I had to pay another surgeon to fix his work. HORRIBLE! Don't go there! I went to the Wesley Chapel office with a very painful eye problem and first saw Dr. Gstalder. I waited almost 2 hours in the lobby. Chelsea was the front desk girl there, she was helpful and nice. Then the nurse wasn't very friendly (dont remember her name). The Dr. was very mean, gruff, and had horrible bedside manor. He was very rough when he touched my face or eyes and made me feel very uncomfortable. He seemed rushed and distracted. He was interrupted 5 times by the nurse regarding other patients. He didn't explain anything to me about the cause, treatment, and prevention of the problem I was having. I had to come back the next day and I saw Dr. Parker. He was much better, but still was cold and unfriendly. The nurse this time was great. I don't remember her name but she had a slight accent and seemed to be of Eastern European decent. She was very friendly and nice and answered all of my questions and explained things to me. Dr. Parker seemed very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions. He wasn't very friendly though. His instructions for the eye drops were different than Dr. Gstalder's, so I was confused. The worst part about going to the Wesley Chapel office was dealing with Gail. She is by far the RUDEST front desk staff person I've ever talked to. She was very rude, mean, had an attitude with me and lectured me on the phone. Every time I tried to make another appointment, it was impossible since there is apparently only 1 dr in the office 1 day a week for a 2 hour window. Since I couldn't take a 1/2 day off work to drive to a different office in another town, she gave me attitude. I wont be going back. And it's a shame because I was going to get contacts, glasses, and even consider lasik eye surgery with them. Now I will be taking my business elsewhere where the patients are treated better and the office is more accommodating to working professionals schedules. read more

Dr. Jonathan Kaufman performed a procedure on my eye that finally made the bump dissipate within a week. The service and the doctors here are amazing ! The environment is so welcoming and relaxed. I now return yearly for my annual checkups and I am NEVER disappointed. Lasik Eye Surgery Review: I am a regular patient at Kaufman Eye institute and I have had great experiences with the doctors until I went in to go thru the process for Lasik Eye Surgery. I was very disappointed. I wanted to get Lasik Eye surgery and it required me to come in on two separate days for a check up. One day was for the tests and the other day for the doctor to go over the tests with me. I had to pay a Co-pay both times. I am sure they do it this way because it makes them more money. The first day, I waited an hour for my appointment due to electrical issues and then they couldn't even do all of the tests due to the electrical issues so they postponed the some of the tests to the day I was supposed to meet with the doctor. So essentially, they could have done the tests and the doctor consultation in one day but instead, they made me pay the co-pays two times for two different visits wasting time and money. After my two visits, I was supposed to get a follow up from there finance person about the surgery. It took them more than a week to get back to me after I had to call in to remind them. So before the surgery is even performed, I would have to go to Tampa for more tests, come back to see the doctor again and then go back to tampa another day to get the surgery done. All in all, 4 different visits before they would do the surgery. I went to Lasik+ Vision Center in Tampa for a totally free consultation and they did the orientation, all of the tests, and the financing in 1.5 hours including wait time for FREE. I can do the surgery in two days and the price was significantly lower than Kaufman and they provide a lifetime guarantee for adjustments which Kauffman does not. Kaufmann=$4,000 Lasik+ Vision Center: $3,000. I think this is a great place for normal check ups with good doctors but I would highly recommend you go somewhere else for Lasik Eye surgery. read more

DO NOT GO THERE! Went to the Bushnell office for routine exam and new glasses. What a bunch of incompetent idiots. To begin with, when I called for an appointment the receptionist asked for an e-mail address saying she was sending me 'the paperwork'. Never happened. Still hasn't happened. No biggie. I went to the appointment as planned and THEN I filled out the paperwork. Of course I didn't have the paper she wanted so she chewed on me for a while lecturing me on the importance of paper. Then 52 minutes later an unidentified person called me to the back and said she was not the doctor but would begin the exam until the doctor arrived. Hmmm... Turns out I was down to my last pair of glasses that were about five years old which is why I needed a new set and that's what I wrote on the paper. So I was a little surprised when the attendant asked if I'd noticed a change in the prescription of the older glasses. Apparently she hadn't read the paper. I thought about reciting the lecture I got from the receptionist about the importance of paper but since I'm no paper expert, what do I know? Again, no biggie, I explained it to her. Or tried to, anyways. She would not listen. Before I could finish she sharply demanded to know again, if I'd noticed a change in the prescription of the older glasses that I was wearing. So I'm thinking wow, this ain't going too good. I started to ask her opinion whether a man pushing 60 wearing five year old glasses should notice a change. I was after all, assuming (incorrectly as it turns out) that one could ask questions of a competent and qualified eye care professional because that's what I was paying for. When she asked me the same question again, I just shook my head and said, 'Yes ma'am.' It was then that I realized I was talking to a robot. As I looked into her eyes I could tell there was no soul there. She mistook my compliance as a sign of weakness. Not good. We struggled on with the so-called exam. When we got to the part where she flipped through the test lenses, I couldn't decide quick enough whether number 1, number 2, number 3 or number 5 was best. When I'd hesitate, even for an instant, she would sharply demand to know whether number 1, 2, 3 or 4 was best. Apparently she has a Nazi fetish. By then I had lost all confidence in her capabilities. I knew I wouldn't get a fair shake and I told her so. I figured it was best to waste no more time so I got up to leave. At which time she started backtracking asking why I was leaving and so on. I figured if she didn't listen earlier then she wouldn't listen later so I said nothing as I continued out the door. Incredibly, she tried to block my path and began to berate me. I flashbacked to middle school when she sarcastically said, 'bye-bye'. She beat me to the front desk through some hidden passageway and was conferring with the receptionist as to whether I'd paid or not! I just went on out the door leaving the commotion behind. If you want cold, incompetent, hard and to-the-point medical care like one might expect from a little grey guy on a UFO then this is your place. Call for an appointment and they'll hook you right up. HOWEVER, if you are a military veteran with PTSD, do not go in there. You could very well end up in prison. As for me, I just wanted some new glasses. Reckon I'll be happier with the ones I've got. I went to Kaufman Eye for a second opinion for LASIK but I never told him it was a second opinion. I was told I could have the surgery by another doctor. Dr. Kaufman told me my eye was too thin. He told me that if I go to enough doctors, some will do it but that he would not recommend it. I would recommend this place. read more

RIP-OFF! I have been to both the Zephyrhills Clinic and Wesley Chapel Clinic. First, I went to Kaufman Eye Institute for an exam regarding my cataracts. I was taken into a room by a "businesswoman" that proceeded to have me view a video for "Crystalens." After the video was over, the "woman" came back into the "sales pitch office" and proceeded to tell me how great that the "Crystalens" is compared to the mono-focal cataract implants. Then, she asked me if I had $10,000.00 out of pocket to pay for these lenses because my insurance only paid for the mono-focal implants. I told her that I did not have that kind of money "out of pocket," then she told me, "Well, Dr. Kaufman only does cataract surgery with the "Crystalens." She quickly escorted me to the eye exam room for a visit with Dr. Kaufman who told me, "Your cataracts aren't that bad and you don't need to have surgery." (I have since went for a second opinion and ended up needing cataract surgery.) Dr. Kaufman told me that I need gas permeable contact lenses for optimum vision: He told me that a pair of contact lenses would cost me $150.00 (He failed to mention that the contact lens exam would cost an additional $325.00.) Kaufman Eye Institute has deceptive marketing practicing by not being "up front" with hidden costs. When I went to pick up my contact lenses, the receptionist rudely stated, "You can't have them until you pay $290.00." I told her that Dr. Kaufman told me that the lenses would cost $150.00 for a pair, and she replied, "That is the price for one contact lenses and we're giving you a $10.00 discount." I had to be refitted several times because the lenses kept fogging up and popping out of my eyes spontaneously. On my second visit to be refitted for the lenses, I highly suspect that they gave me another patient's lenses because there was second pair on the counter not taken out of the plastic bag. When I put these contact lenses in, Dr. Parker told me that I had the lenses in the wrong eye (there is a black dot on the lenses for the right eye.) I continued to have problems and kept returning to the clinic. The last time that I took the lenses back, the clinic called and cancelled my appointment and NEVER called me back. When I called to inquire about the contacts, the receptionist told me that since I didn't come back in, the lenses were sent back to the manufacturer so that they could get their money back. I spoke with several different individuals in an attempt to get my money back: I also mentioned the fact that Dr. Kaufman quoted me $150.00 for a pair of contacts, and the accounting manager replied, "Dr. Kaufman doesn't know anything about the fees and costs." It appears as if my only option at this time is to hire an attorney in an attempt to recover the money I spent for NOTHING! read more
