We went last week and were surprised that 2 bartenders, all waiters, and hostess were not wearing masks. When I asked, I was informed that masks do not work and she did not want to get into a political discussion. We will not be back. The Tavern it's self is very beautiful. But that's the last positive thing I can share. We had a reservation for 545 and we're not seated until after six. We were told by the hostess that there were only two servers. After 30 minutes of waiting at our table, with our menus open, a waitress came and said if she could get us anything. We said we would like to have our order taken. She said because we had drinks at our table, she thought the other waitress had taken our order. We said that we were on a time schedule because we were seeing a show at 7:30 and we figured with a reservation at 5:45 we would have plenty of time. We received our food, delivered by the bus boy, rather promptly. My rice was cold, and my friends' filet mignon was not fully cooked. We did not have the luxury of time to have these things resolved, especially because our waitress never came back to check on us. At 7 PM she came with our check and said I know that you're in a hurry so I brought your check unless you want dessert? We said we would like to see the dessert menu. She brought the dessert menu and did not return again.We waited for her to return to our table so we could ask for our checks. We had to go track her down to get them. And she never brought our soda to the table and had it on the bill. When my friend asked her for the bill, she said oh didn't I bring it to you? At this point she was speaking to someone who may have been at the manager at the time. My friend said no, you did not. We nearly missed being admitted to our show. No one seemed concerned at all about the service that we received. And we were very disappointed in the quality of the food as well, after all the good things we had heard. read more

Would give 5 stars for service and decor. However if you're coming to this restaurant for food, the chef has a problem or two. I treated my friend to lunch for her birthday. She had been there two days before with other friends. At that time, she stated that her southern fried chicken sandwich was burned. She unfortunately did not send it back but certainly did not care for it. Today one friend got the fish sandwich which he enjoyed, two other friends got the flat breads which are hard to screw up. I got the crab cake which was missing crab-it was all filling. REALLY???! Very shaky kitchen. I really want this to work for Zelienople but they have a long way to go. The low quality does not match the inflated price. Sorry it would be hard to try Kaufman Tavern again when the incredible Della Terra is directly across the street. read more

We took our parents out the last day they were in town for an early Father's Day. We made reservations for 7 (3 kids) for 7:15 pm. By 7:45 no one had waited on us or taken any drink orders, so I asked the bus boy if our server was available so we could get some drinks and place an order. The server showed up shortly after. We ordered 4 waters and 3 sodas for the kids and also placed our orders for dinner (4 sandwiches, 1 kids pizza, 1 kids fish and the poutine). 45 minutes later we still had not received our meals. We noticed that the table that sat down the same time as us were finished with their meals and were getting up to leave. At this point (8:32) we asked to speak to the manager (Heather). Heather was very rude and did not seem to care that we were upset. She said that things take longer for large parties (as she was saying this a table of 6 sat down next to us and was served their drinks immediately) and asked what could she possibly do to make things better. I said perhaps some discount would be in order. Our meal then finally showed up. The sandwiches were dry as if they had been sitting under a heat lamp and the poutine was cool. We received our full price bill with no apologies and no break whatsoever for the very poor service. We live in Zelienople and thankfully there are several other places that value our business. I would highly recommend looking elsewhere. read more

Very very good!! My husband and I had a heavy lunch of me having the shrimp and grits and he having the lobster linguine. Mine was as good as what I had in Charleston, SC! My husband repeatedly said his was very very good. I had a glass of wine listed under "interesting whites" and it was perfect. We shared the bread pudding and again was very impressed. Pretty classy atmosphere!! We will return!! read more

Had the pleasure to visit my old stomping grounds to visit the Kaufman House now Kaufman Tavern. My friend Pat Boylan did a wonderful job updating the entire building. We went on a Friday evening and the bar/restaurant was packed. It was hard getting a drink since every seat was taken and the restaurant orders took the majority of the bartenders time. Once seated we had a pleasant and great dinner. Our waiter, Tenille, did a great job regardless of the number of patrons. My wife and I started with the calamari, very good with the added sauce that it was placed on. We both orders the lobster linguine. It was very good. The bread with a dryer sun tomato olive oil dip was exceptional. The chocolate tort was OK. It would have been better with a 30 second zap in the microwave to make it softer. Overall we really enjoyed our visit to the new and improved Kaufman Tavern. We are now planning a road trip with our group of friends to try lunch. While there don't forget to stop next door at Maddalon's Jewery . read more

Lived in Zelienople when I was young, loved going there, it was a special treat for us. We thought the place was never going to reopen! I heard from multiple people that the food wasn't good. Went in July and loved my meal! The bruschetta appetizer was delicious! I had the mahi mahi for dinner and it was fabulous. Took a friend there a few weeks ago for lunch, had one of the flatbreads, was very good. Going again very soon. Loved the decor, thought they did a great job trying to keep with what it once was. We will miss the cheap breakfasts though! Maybe when they opened, they had to work the kinks out. Everywhere we go right now has a limited menu, so that will change. We thought the menu was fine. Stopped for dinner recently and was pleasantly surprised. The re-model is stellar and the menu,although a bit pricey is excellent. Our waiter was very efficient and polite. The wine selections were varied and well presented on the winelist. I did notice a few F-bombs coming out of the kitchen which kind of dampened my spirit as I sat there with my wife at a table close to the bar. This kind of language should be kept to the mens locker room if at all. No place for it in a public dining room where families are dining.I would probably have added a star if not for the inappropriate language.Getting back to the food we tried the shrimp and grits and the Eichner chicken. I would recommend the chicken, not the grits. Someone needs to visit the southern states to really get good shrimp and grits. The portions were generous but as I said a little pricey. Someone has to pay for the re-model. read more

If I could give this place a zero I would, do not bother with this place, sat for over 20 minutes after we were seated and no one came to serve us, speaking to the Manager was useless, left hungry and disappointed, absolutely no social distancing going in either, very dissatisfied, used to love the original restaurant. I'd read the history of the Tavern and was looking forward to our visit. Ok, the outside is not much to look at, but I like hole-in-the-wall places, so I wasn't put off. (The car with the Confederate flag license plate frame was a little off-putting!) Hostess was slow for an off time. The drinks were watered down. The food was overcooked and too salty. This lace has been open for 6 weeks, plenty time to start fixing the problems associated with being a new establishment. My group had 4 people and we had reservations for a Saturday evening. After sitting around and waiting for 15 minutes or so, we made it to our table. Th place was packed and so was the bar. We ordered appetizers and a cocktail for each one of us. The appetizers arrived fairly fast but o sign of the cocktails. We placed our orders for the main course and a bottle of red wine. The cocktails arrived 20 minutes later, literally just before our meals showed up. Having only 2 bartenders for 40 people at the bar and the entire restaurant will do that to you. We had to cancel the red wine. My NY strip steak was mediocre at best, considering it was $32 plate. The side dishes were like 6 string beans and bits of potatoes, no Bueno! Another person in our group had the Filet, and the feedback was similar I had to ask for water refill twice to get a glass of water. One other issue with this location is the noise level. When the restaurant is full like that Saturday, the noise level can be quite high, to the point of not being able to hear the conversation on the table. All on all, this place was not ready to handle the business they got momentarily. read more

I really wanted to like it here. I tried. The chicken pot pie was too salty and no chicken. My steak on my salad was rare when I asked for medium. My friends steak was well down when he asked for rare. My friends salmon was rare when she wanted it well down. The kitchen really needs to get it together. My drink was the Kaufman sour. Undrinkable. Asked to have more sour and ice but still awful. On the plus side. Great atmosphere and our server was attentive. My salad dressing was excellent. I just think you have to work out the kinks. I will be back and hopefully a better experience next time. read more

Had a wonderful dinner with family for Mardi Gras. Beer list was great and food was fantastic. Service was friendly. Very nice ambiance. Can't say there was anything disappointing about the evening. Between all of us we had the Brussels Sprouts Sharable with bacon and blue cheese as an appetizer, along with the chicken pot pie, salmon entrée, shrimp flatbread, lamb chops, and pork chops. Finished the meal with the chocolate torte. Everything was delicious. We have plans to try their Sunday brunch (we've heard good things about it) and are planning to go there to celebrate some family birthdays this coming month. Meh. I've experienced better. No parking during peak hours in Zelienople which makes getting to the restaurant a chore. This was our second visit to the Kaufman Tavern. The first time we left because we could not get waited on. We gave it another try. Our appetizer was small, expensive, and took a good 30 minutes to get to our table after waiting 10 min for our order to be taken. We had to wait an additional 20 minutes for our entrees. The menu is limited and offers very few healthy vegetarian options. Regular plain fries, which were only average and salty, was the side for the sandwiches and burgers. The sandwiches were decent but not worth the Cranberry prices or wait. We will skip the KT and head over to the Log Cabin or North Country in the future. read more

High expectations, very low experience, which could have easily been avoided, if any attentiveness was offered. Waiting to be greeted by a waitress until we asked a manager for service. Still waited an unreasonable amount of time for beverages, while we could plainly see the staff chatting, checking their phones and just hanging out, completely oblivious that we were there still waited no to be served. Ok, sometimes things like this happen, sometimes people may be having a bad day, but this behavior continued for the entire course of our meal. The inattentiveness, despite that only one other couple remained there, just blew my mind. We were charged for drinks that were never served, waited for the waitress to clean all the other tables of people who had left, who then went back to texting on her iPhone, and then went to wait on the one other couple who had just arrived. We had to walk to the bar to correct our bill, and pay. I always leave at least a 20% minimum tip, but today for the first time ever I left a 6 % tip It's understandable if one person had a bad day, but they tried their best, I would have probably tipped way more than 20% to encourage them. I'm typically very understanding, compassionate and not judgmental, but tonight literally blew my mind with the ignorance of an entire staff. Oh, BTW, food was decent read more

We had a ladies lunch out to celebrate a special milestone. We ordered numerous appetizers to include the crab dip, Brussels sprouts, charcuterie board, and calamari. All were delicious but the Brussels sprouts and crab dip stand out in my mind as favorites. I ordered the Kaufman Rib Rav. These are short rib raviolis. You can tell the Raviolis were hand made but for $24 all I got were three raviolis with little filling. It did not come with a side salad or soup as a starter or even bread. This was a dish ordered off of the Entrée menu and for the price I really expected more. They were tasty but not worth the price with no other accompaniments. We also ordered an array of desserts and I was extremely partial to the parfait. Short bread and strawberry was so good! Was disappointed with the chocolate cake. They gave a nice big slice but it was extremely dry. If I come back I would go for a sandwich because I'd at least get a side and leave not wanting for more. read more
