I used to eat here and it was goid. First, there was a young employee bussing tables and setting tables, around food. Her hair was a total mess, long hanging in her face in an unkempt hanging ponytail. The meatloaf was a gray color. Food was warm, not hot. I had potato salad, not very cold. My friend ordered the chicken, it was an odd color, said it was dry. The salad bars broccoli salad wasn't cold. Neither was the pudding. We didn't eat anymore of the salad bar. When paying, there was a haggard looking kitchen helper/ cook putting together sandwiches where I could see her, not wearing gloves and throwing food onto the plate from the counter onto the plate. The waitresses sit around on their cell phones as did the heavy man on the register. Needless to say, Im writing this at 12 a.m. after being sick for hours! Im sure they aren't taking temperatures of the salad bar, ect. I've worked in kitchens and had state mandated food service, safe serve testing. I better not miss work because of my diarrhea! After all the years we have been going here I can't believe how bad their food got! Food has no flavor, the bacon is over cooked, sausage tastes like it's the microwave kind, salad dressing is so runny, my husband's steak burgers tasted like it was cooked in the microwave. Excellent food at even better prices. Wife was hungry when we woke up so I quickly googled places near me and this was one that popped up. Lots of positive reviews so I thought why not try it. Great find! Place looks a bit sketchy from outside but the parking lot was busy so that's usually a good sign. Seated right away by a very friendly waitress. The menu is pretty big and you can get anything on the menu at anytime. I appreciate that because I don't eat breakfast food to often. It was my wife, two preteen boys and myself. Boy 1 had a pancake, boy 2 had kids chicken fingers with fries, wife had ham and cheese omlett with toast and I had a pattymelt with curly fries. Everyone enjoyed there breakfast and it was one of the better patty melts I've had. Our entire bill was less than$35. Great for 4 people. Can't wait to go back and try more dishes. Raised the price on a breaded veal cutlet to $12.50 of course no salad bar due to Covid ? Veal cutlet meal always used to come with choice of potato . Potatoe is now considered one of your sides . Salads come in a very little round saucer . You should get the veal and potato as the meal with two sides. No more bread , just cheap little rolls. Service was good. My husband and I both had country fried steak. His with baked potato. Served with BROWN gravy. No butter or sour cream for potato. Sour cream was FROZEN. Potato was lukewarm, so butter/ sour cream just sat on top. Gross. My instant mashed potatoes were also lukewarm. The fried steak was a typical frozen pre made patty. With a glob of brown gravy. I have to say, this is the first time I've ever had it served with brown gravy. I would have not ordered it. I very much dislike brown gravy. It's always been served with a white country gravy. I was so disappointed. We also both had the broccoli salad. It was not what I've normally had with a thin white sweet /tart dressing. This was in what seemed like mayonnaise/ miracle whip dressing. Had the sausage gravy over biscuits, it tasty very good, however the sausage was still red and undercooked. Food was not warm at all. I was out in Kay Kountry again, and we needed things for the new house, so to Trader Horn in the bucolic edges of Ellwood City we were headed, but damn it, we were hungry! That's when we caught sight of Christy's with its peak, white sign, and cursive logo that is bookended by obsolete Pepsi symbols, which for some reason always gives me a good feeling. It purported to be a "family restaurant" and to take credit cards, so without further thought, we were inside and seated. Yet again, I almost ordered a burger, but our waitress steered me towards the BBQ ribs which are only offered once a week as we were told. Thanks be to her, for this rack of ribs was moist, dainty, suety and held bones that slid out cleanly with no exertion. A burgundy BBQ sauce that looked to be merely spooned on was temptingly ordained by molasses and Edesia knows what else. Sweet and savory were unified in a ceremony of Southern matrimony, and not one bite required fingers or wet napkins; the meat was so delicate, I tore it apart with knife and fork. The mound of fries that came on a separate plate were blonde wands of starchy, salty nourishment. Kay ordered deep-fried scallops, and I was fortunate to try one. Why I've never had scallops breaded and plunged into scalding oil before I have no idea. Think catfish and lobster cut into chunks and made worthy of the biggest state fair or amusement park. Put them in a cone of newspaper, and I could pop them into my mouth all day while walking about. For dessert it was a thermal wedge of flaky, buttery, love-induced apple pie with with a side of vanilla ice cream. With all the ornate desserts I've had of late, this was a nice, simple diversion. We stop here regularly for work break. Love the crazy bills breakfast, the bone in ham is really good and hard to find at almost every other diner. On the other hand the men's bathroom is as cramped as an airplane bathroom. And it is meant for two atta time use?! That's just awkward. But then you happen upon those places that you get more from and leave satisfied and full! What a relief... I ordered a Greek Salad and it was packed full of the good stuff. A huge plate full of lettuce, piled high with olives, peppers, onions plus large pieces of gyro meet and a massive amount of feta cheese. Now the place you can go wrong, the dressing. I grew up in Ellwood. Terrible place to live. One of the only redeeming qualities of Ellwood is that there is Christy's. Christy's has been a favorite of mine for years now. Nothing has changed in that time. Still family owned and operated. Still dirt cheap prices. And still home fries that make life worth living. I had talked about Christy's for months before finally taking my boyfriend to find out for himself how small town does breakfast. He was surprised by how cheap everything was. A whole giant breakfast meal with coffee for under $5. We are obsessed with the greasy chunks of potato that somehow come together to form the best home fries ever. Their breakfasts are amazing, affordable, and fast. Everyone that works there has worked there for years; they know how it goes. You can hear a wide arrange of music, some songs are alright, most are horrible, all coming from a little radio that the cooks have on. Even a little detail like that gives this place the feeling that, no, this is not 2012, this is some small town time warp. And I love it. I figured that my undying love for Christy's had to be due to the fact that I grew up there; I grew up on Christy's. But after a month long road trip across the country, and eating at every small diner we could find, I still cant help but deem Christy's one of the best. If you are in the mood for some breakfast, at any time of the day, this is the place you need to be. For actual lunches and dinners, I don't rave so much. My adoration and fixation is limited to their breakfast. BUT, they have great pie a la mode. This is definitely a hometown favorite. I've always loved this place even when I was a little kid. Actually especially when I was a little kid; they would give you bubble gum when you pay your bill. Okay, not really exciting, but for a ten year old, that is a pretty big deal. Anyways, once I moved out of town and couldn't get my once a week Christy's fix, I became pretty upset. I have yet to find somewhere to replace my breakfast needs like Christy's can. Back to the food, everything I have ever had here has been great. I recommend Crazy Bill's Eye Opener. It comes with the most delicious homefries you will ever eat. You get homefries, two eggs, breakfast meat of your choice, and two slices of break, all for under $5. Their daily specials and sandwhiches are great as well. The environment is what you would expect for a small town. It is a very friendly atmosphere. You can't come here without knowing someone. Also, our server had her dirty hands all over our glasses and plates... No Covid precautions displayed... During our dinner a very nasty server names Tiffany approached our table for NO reason and began some rant about the rules and regulations of the Government regarding Covid, etc .. etc ..
