When it's the first Friday of Lent and you call yourselves the 'lenten headquarters', you need to bring your A-game. So many fire companies and fraternal orders in the area do lenten fish fries this time of year and, by and large, these once per year operations produce the most phenomenal fish dinners; plump, battered cod or haddock overflowing on a soft hoagie roll with equally impressive sides...cole slaw and/or mac & cheese. The bar has been set. The fish sandwich last night at GVI, while large in surface area, was panko breaded and only 1/2 inch thick at maximum in the ceter which tapered off to hard fried edges. It was dry, crunchy, and did not meet expectations. My wife had the same fish on a platter which was equally dry, eliminating the possibility of an unfortunate mistake. The cole slaw was good, but I didn't have an opportunity to try the mac & cheese. They were all out. No, I didn't say anything. If something like that gets plated, someone must believe that it's good enough. I'm not wasting my energy trying to convince them otherwise. You get one chance. You gotta love a place that just does it right... Since moving to Beaver county 4 months ago I have been surrounded by pizza joints and bar & grilles serving pub grub, pizza and wings, and that's fine, but sometimes you just want good home cooked style meals and i finally found it here at the Grand Valley Inn. I have driven by a few dozen times now and have always noticed a very full parking lot whenever they were open. Now I know why. My family and I stopped for dinner and quickly settled into a booth among lots of locals filling up the dining room next to the bar. The place was busy and most all tables were full, even the side dining room that seemed to be hosting some sort of game night as well. after a few short minutes we ordered and then were blessed with a basket of the world's best and freshest dinner rolls. To say they were pillow soft would do them an injustice. I also ordered the spinach artichoke dip with fry bread chips as well as deep fried mozzarella sticks for my son. The dip was fantastic and the frybread was the perfect vehicle to get it from the bowl to my mouth. Mozzarella sticks were just o.k, nothing special but a solid appetizer. My wife ordered the chicken picatta which she loved and I went with the weekly special of Danish baby back bbq ribs with waffle cut sweet potato fries. Our server was so-so. Unfortunately, that was the highlight. I ordered the crab cakes and there was no crab to be found. Just pureed garbage heated up. My wife ordered filet medallions medium-rare( which is how most people order a steak), and apparently they had no concept of this and gave her a medium cooked steak. The food was just ok. I got the crab cakes. I have had better in the past but it wasn't horrible. I did enjoy the bread that was brought out beforehand. It was very fresh and tasted amazing. The environment was casual and small. The crowd was a bit more mature. I didn't see any kids around. Parking was very easy and the lot is big. It is off of a busy highway so that can make getting into the lot a little difficult but nonetheless, there is definitely enough room to park. For starters, being a local I have put off eating Grand Valley Inn due to opinions of others, mostly family and friends. I was invited by family and decided why not see what this local place has to offer. Don't let the name fool you, Grand is not what you should expect upon entering or dining. This establishment is in need of a total refurbishment, saying it's outdated is more than generous. We were greeted by what we thought was the hostess with a very sour attitude, why someone who has a horrible disposition and is working in the service industry is beyond me. When we sat down I looked online at their website and found out that this hostess was actually the general manager. Our service was a little slow for how empty the dining room was on a Friday night. Both establishments next door and across the street had packed full parking lots so I expected Grand Valley to be slammed on a Friday night. Now onto the food. Your given a crudely constructed picture menu to decide your dinner. My biggest issue with picture menus at any establishment is now you have something to compare your actual dinner to. This isn't Emeril Lagasse's Meril restaurant in NOLA, dinner will most definitely not be similar to the picture. Don't post pics of Maryland style crab cakes and expect someone to buy into it after seeing the pic. True Maryland crab cakes are not formed patties. But I'm getting off point of the actual food eaten. I against on of my Cardinal rules ordered a pasta dish. I got the peppers and pasta, a sausage stuffed hot peppers baked with sauce and cheese over angle hair pasta. So I'm a huge pasta geek, at home or well known established restaurants that have a true appreciation for pasta. What I got was the peppers (which by themselves would have been good), on a bed of over cooked angle hair swimming in its on water. I didn't order pasta soup but that's what I was served. To make matters worse they serve a slice of garlic toast which was way overly salted, I assume from using garlic salt and not granulated garlic. They put this toast directly into the dish and it soaks up a good bit of liquid. So you get soggy toast and still have pasta water sitting in your dish. My wife got the Featured Item listed on the menu which was chicken and fries with mozzarella cheese. My wife really enjoyed the chicken, but the frozen French fries that were heaped onto the plate were left after she tried a few. Our other two guests as well did not finish their meals so a party of four paid over $100 for dinner and the best part of the meal was our company and the drinks. There are worse places to be stranded than in humble Fallston, PA, and with quality restaurants such as GVI, Brady's Run Grille, and Cove Diner nearby, you may want to stay an extra day or two. I had received a Just Buy Half gift card as a birthday present from my mother which research revealed was accepted by GVI along with many other restaurants and businesses. Kay had always been standoffish about GVI due to its prices, but with a 50 buck head start, she caved in and took us out here this past Saturday evening, running errands and visiting her parents along the way. Grand Valley Inn resembles a suburban home, and the interiors themselves, ornamented with vintage farm tools like saws and foreboding scythes, might as well be a relative's dining room. Sunday dinner is recalled. I almost thought I heard someone ask me or someone else to "pass the salt" or what have you. The Waltons would feel at ease in what would surely be the finest dining to the fictional clan. *If a feeling of deja-vu takes hold of you while perusing this piece, you're not alone. Chase this review with the one I wrote of Downtown Pittsburgh's Grille On Seventh, the urban cousin GVI never knew it had. The pageant began with Almond Crusted Goat Cheese that came with pita chips and a small serving of sublime sweet/sour strawberry viniagrette-dressed greens. Fluffy, tart, nutty, and crunchy are words that are invoked when I think back to spreading this warm and warmly admirable stand-in for brie or whipped butter over the hard triangles of pita. As with many a great started, we wanted more. What may have been the zenith of steaks was brought to my table afterwards. The Filet Oscar features two petite cuts of filet mignon that are topped with lump crabmeat, asparagus, and a bear of a bearnaise sauce. The filets, cooked medium rare (the only way to order burgers or steak anymore), were erotically pink inside, oozed blood and juice profusely when lacerated, and offered no resistance to my canines whatsoever. Never before have I had the pleasure of indulging on such a tender steak. The chunks of sweet crustacean collied with the lightly bitter asparagus rods, the bearnaise sauce was as creamed and flavor-packed as its mother, the hallowed hollandaise. As supreme as this entree was, all that was missing was a poached egg, but that perhaps would have been overly decadent. Flanking my slabs of bloody, juicy protein was the perfect side to a perfect duo of steaks: a perfect baked potato. Leathery-skinned and feathery on the inside, I applied sour cream to the split, buttered, fuming spud generously, sliced it apart, and partook between bites of beef and crab with utmost pleasure. I was reminded of why french fries are simply too base a side for such an exquisite steak. No, a baked potato must do, but it must be as ideal as this. Also had in the middle of this feast as a cup of Stuffed Pepper Soup. A cross between chili and a tomato soup, tender grains of rice and ground beef played off of the gravy-thick, tangy, crimson broth. It may be cliche to state this, but cold, winter evenings were seemingly invented to make soups such as these as gratifying and comforting as they are. Nothing else would have satisfied my sweet, after-supper cravings like the unassumingly-named Flourless Fudge Cake did. A fiendish wedge of shaved nut-riddled chocolate, fresh whipped cream was thankfully piped about the plate to temper the pastry's richness. This was PURE fudge, a candy bar served like a pie, and it was not for those with heart conditions or diabetes. It would put both Wilford Brimley and Bret Michaels into shock with one taste. And if that reads like praise, it is. Our server Dan was joy to be waited on by and watch in action as he nimbly worked a busy, packed room with preternatural skill, professionalism, and personality. Grand Valley Inn is not one for the trend-chasers; it is for those who love tradition. Label me an old-fogie if you must for this meal will go down as one of the grandest of all my days. My parents couldn't decide where they wanted to eat for my birthday. I told them I wanted something local and they brought me to no-mans land right up the street from Brewster's ice-cream in New Brighton close to Brady's Run. My mom & dad aren't real big on $20+ meals. It's normally Texas Road house or Applebees. They wanted a good steak so my mom suggested Grand Valley Inn I chose the soup of the day: Chicken tortilla. It was Spicy & cheesy. Lots of cheese. Hmmm come to think of it, it's nothing but cheese and a few, very little strands of shredded chicken. My parents chose the Minestrone. It was full of Flavor. Plenty of ingredients and tastes great with the soft bread that is brought before your meal. My parents shared a Sirloin steak smothered with mushrooms entrée. My mom likes her meat tough. I guess she likes to make sure that the beast is truly dead. I suggested med well. I tried it. The meat was tender, still juicy, with a smokey taste. Very tasty actually. Excellent choice with baked potato and carrots. It was more than enough for senior citizens. I got the pan seared Salmon with burgundy sauce. Good but not great. It was a nice size portion and able to fill up most appetites. The rice pilaf was very good. The carrots, eh... Dessert: Coconut cream pie such a HUGE portion. Very light & fluffy. Great with coffee. I actually drank the coffee black. It was very good. Not strong and not weak either. Parking Not enough parking. There are open lots next door and across the street, and I guess you could assume you can park anywhere. Area Nice looking local bars in the middle of nowhere. It's a nice quaint restaurant for grown-ups and large family gatherings. My dad told me, many of the lawyers and local judges eat here during their lunch hour. This place has the dubious distinction of being voted best all around restaurant in the valley. Well, let's just say they are resting on their laurels. I found the server ( who was training a new girl) rude and obnoxious. I'm not joking , when she asked us for our order she very rudely asked" what ya want!" It only went downhill from there. Do they have standards,because every other table was offered rolls with their salad. Not us. And we had 4 people, 2 ordered the ribs, daily special. My friends looked appetizing and yummy. Mine, two little hard , dried up end pieces. I personally have been in food service my whole adult life and if you're sending our 2 dishes to the same table, they better look similar. And lastly, please find a better dessert vendor. 2 of us ordered ( after seeing a picture on their menu) orange mandarin cake. Again I noticed a table near us with the same dessert and the plate had oranges on it. Well,it was dried up, no flavor and NO oranges. Not once did we get a sorry, not once did the manager even come to the table. Finally we get our meals and the shrimp in the shrimp scampi was tough, and the entire thing was swimming in so much sauce it looked like shrimp scampi soup. She never asked if our food was ok. Finally she asks for boxes and we say no the food was not good. Get the bill and the have the audacity to charge us for the burn crab cakes. First and last time I will be back. read more

More catching up... This is a tremendous restaurant. We came here recently due to Darren having a gift card, and it was worth the drive. Grand Valley Inn is a little pricey and steakhouse-style gourmet, but the ambience and service are very laid-back, and of course the food is superlative. I had the Pan Seared Salmon Two Ways which means you get one filet almond crusted with orange sauce and another glazed with bourbon. It was amazing. Down to the salads and sides, everything is terrific. The Almond Crusted Goat cheese was a winning app and the Chocolate Raspberry cake was a decadent finish. This general area has some neat restaurants, and this is the best of the best imo, well it's maybe tied with Tinitique. lol. Great stuff! read more

We were trying to find a midway spot to meet friends for dinner and the Grand Valley worked perfectly. The bar had a nice atmosphere for drinks before dinner and the wine choices were great. We shared several appetizers and everyone loved their meals. If you're looking for a fancy place, this isn't it, but if you're looking for great food at a great price, you definitely need to spend time here. The only drawback is the parking!! read more

We eat at this restaurant quite frequently. When we have family in town we always have our big dinners here or any type of party here. The staff is great and very friendly and helpful. They have a very nice bar with separate bar seating and also 3 fairly large dining rooms. I have had a lot of different things here and one of the things I like is they always have a daily specials sheet with about 5-6 different dinners on it ranging from a stuffed pork chop, pot roast with mashed potatoes, beef tips and noodles, stuffed chicken breast and some type of fish dinner. The stuffed pork chop is one of my favorites the stuffing is delicious and you get a salad or soup plus mashed potatoes and a vegetable. They have a margarita pizza appetizer that is very good. Shrimp cocktail is very good. Their salads are mixed greens and all homemade dressings that are good especially the ranch and herbal vinaigrette. Filet salad is excellent. You get 2 twin filets on a bed of mixed greens. The filet is always cooked perfectly and the portion size of the salad is pretty big. This is a nice family restaurant, not too pricey and a place where you will have an excellent meal with great service. read more

We had a reservation tonight for 12 of us and this was our first time eating here. Service was slow and there were a few mistakes but that was the least of the issues. I ordered a filet burgundy medium rare and it was way overcooked. Considering our waiter didn't ask how are meals were in a timely fashion I was stuck with it. The vegetable medley was so bad it taste like it was frozen out of a bag. Another person in our party ordered the chicken piccata and a baked potato with butter and sour cream. The baked potato had cinnamon and she confronted the waiter and expressed that she didn't like cinnamon on a baked potato and he said oh that's how it comes. For the price the meal was not worth it at all. I know I will not return. read more

The Grand Valley Inn is been my dad's favorite restaurant so I've been here for family dinners multiple times over the years. We went there again recently to celebrate my mom's birthday. This is the second time that I've been here since the new management took over but the transition is hardly noticeable with some nice improvements. They've modified the menu a bit - they've still kept some of the long-standing favorites such as the Stuffed Banana Peppers Marinara (which you can get as an appetizer or as an entree with pasta) and the Petite Filet Oscar along and the Sunday dinner specials which typically include the Stuffed Chicken Breast which my mom and brother love, but they've also expanded the menu to include new items such as the Heirloom Tomato Salad, a Shrimp Pad Thai and the Five Spice Chicken There were seven of us at dinner and we started out with an order of the Almond Crusted Goat Cheese and the Banana Peppers Marinara and I wanted to try the Heirloom Tomato Salad, but they were out. The Almond Crusted Goat Cheese is my personal favorite which comes with crispy, warm pita chips and a small bed of greens drizzled with raspberry vinaigrette dressing - it really is delicious and I highly recommend this appetizer. The Banana Peppers are also very good though I didn't eat them on this occasion. For my entree I had the fried haddock and it was delicious. The large piece of fish was perfectly battered without too much breading and deep fried but not to the point of being too greasy or burnt. My dad got the Shrimp Pad Thai and the portion was so large that he had leftovers - in fact almost everyone had enough food to take home a doggie bag - their portions are typically very generous. The food was very good and everyone enjoyed their meals. I always like the food here, though I don't always love it hence the 4 stars rather than 5. Generally the service has been outstanding because my dad requests that we are seated in Lori's section and she is stellar, but on this particular night, she was off and while are server was nice, she was very slow to take every portion of our orders from drinks to appetizers to entrees. They have an expanded wine menu which offers a great selection of wines both by the glass and the bottle for fairly reasonable pricing compared to other similar restaurants. Some of the other exciting additions are the Two for Tuesdays Dinner specials for $25, Spring Tea, and dinner theater and musical murder mystery dinner. I think that it is great that they are offering more events and reinventing the menu. I hope that these changes will continue to help grow their business to make the Grand Valley Inn one of the top restaurants not only in Beaver County, but in Western PA. read more
