First time at fig & ash did not disappoint! I rarely think higher priced meals are worth it but this one was! The setting is nice - mix of people casually dressed and dressed up. Low lighting but not too low. We sat at chefs counter and could see into the kitchen which was fun. Our server and the other service staff were great! We enjoyed the crab cake with mushrooms and roasted carrots with whipped ricotta as our starters. The carrots were to die for!! We are going to try and recreate at home. My husband had the short rib and pork belly meatloaf, which he raved about! I enjoyed the soy glazed eggplant, which has edamame, farro and mixed veggies. The eggplant was super tender but I found the dish to be a bit salty. We ended with the pistachio cake which was light and tender and the orange whipped cream was so tasty.

Fig & Ash has the reputation as one of the best restaurants in Pittsburgh and for good reason. My husband and I ordered the crab cakes, the chorizo and seafood pasta, and the chicken. Without a doubt the crab cake was unreal. It was made with zucchini and it was so fresh and delicious we could have just had that and been happy. The pasta was great too, the flavors were excellent but we would have preferred a thicker sauce that was less oily. The chicken was good but not exceptional like the previous two dishes. It was definitely a letdown after everything else as it was kind of basic. The service was amazing, the food was incredible, and our drinks were great too. I can't wait to tell friends and family visiting from out of town to try this spot!

Been meaning to try this place for a while and so glad I did. The service was above and beyond. They were on top of every little thing. It was amazing. Highly recommend the crab cake. The chicken was ok, and the pasta dish I got was really good. A bit too oily but still good

I rarely rave about service first, but to get out of the way, the staff at Fig and Ash were very helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. There's small, medium, and large plates so can be overwhelming to decide which ones to get. For type of cuisine, think "New American" / farm-to-table vibes. The inside is super charming modern decor, with an area where you can sit in of the kitchen and watch the cooks through glass (we did not). The aromas from the kitchen were nice and smoky. My friend and I started off with small plates. The Heirloom carrots had a delicious nutty / savory flavor and were served on top of the ricotta cheese. The Cajun shrimp skillet had quite a bit of spice to it, and the pimento cheese lumps in it were different but they worked. Our large plate was the halibut with onion risotto and asparagus. The risotto was the most flavorful, with a rich caramelized-onion taste. The halibut was flaky and tender with a more subtle taste. Portion sizes were just enough for what we needed. Stellar restaurant and hard to overstate the food quality here. Loved it and will be back.

This is a rare find of for an eating spot in Pittsburgh that you don't wanna miss. We wanted to celebrate our anniversary somewhere nice and didn't have any expectations and were pleasantly surprised. My husband, who's vegan had plenty of options and they went out of their way to be accommodating. It was one of the best meals we've had on this visit to Pittsburgh. We highly recommend it. The service was great and the ambience lovely and quiet perfect for a special occasion meal or just a weekday bite to eat. The food is impeccable.

We went to Fig & Ash for our anniversary and I'm still thinking about this meal. We both ordered the Herb Falafel and every part of that plate worked. The saffron rice, grilled zucchini, and blood orange chili glaze all came together in a way that actually felt intentional. Nothing was bland, nothing felt like filler... it was just really well done. My husband ordered the King of the Jungle and I ended up stealing a few sips. It's very pineapple forward with a nice bite at the end that keeps it from being too sweet. It paired perfectly with the food. Chef Cory was incredible. Not only clearly talented, but also kind, funny, and genuinely present. You can tell he cares about what he's creating and about the people he's serving. The staff as a whole were warm and welcoming, and made the night feel special from start to finish. It was the perfect place to celebrate our anniversary and we will absolutely be back

The service was absolutely impeccable at fig and ash. The servers were constantly checking in, filling waters, and bringing food. Overall, I found it incredibly pricey for the portions. We had 2 appetizers with no meat and they were over $15 each. The menu isn't interesting enough for me to want to return for the price point.

We had my birthday dinner here last night and it was amazing! The service was fantastic-- it truly felt like a special occasion with extra touches like giving us new silverware between courses. The food was so good. We had the beet salad and the carrots with ricotta as appetizers. The carrots were our favorite as the beet salad dressing was a bit too acidic for our tastes. We had the lamb terrine as a mid course appetizer and it was melt in your mouth delicious with warm indian spices. Our dinners were the duck and the short rib. Both were fantastic but I liked the flavors in the short rib more as I don't love an orange flavor that was in the sauce with the duck. For dessert we had the fig bread pudding which had some sort of strawberry ice cream on top and we also had the kahlua fudge brownie. Personally I liked the bread pudding better. The brownie was a bit salty and I didn't taste much kahlua. Overall a great night and we will be back!

VERY high on my list of favorites for dinner in Pittsburgh. From ambiance to the food- everything was superb! You MUST get the carrot appetizer, I didn't know carrots could be so magical. The gemelli was also perfect to share and the bone marrow shared plate was spectacular.

OMG! Seriously... OMG.. I had wanted to try this place since I moved here and finally managed to get in and it was AMAZING! We sat at the chefs counter and he came out to meet and great which was just fun. They had some really creative cocktails and mocktails, we tried both. We had apps, we had dinner and we had dessert. Don't think I'd be able to walk out of there, lol. They have season menus and everything on them always sounds so good and everything we had was fantastic. Recommend, recommend, recommend.

    Mocktail*

Friends Who Drink Coffee A recent evening at Fig & Ash reminded me why dining out can still feel special when a restaurant gets the details right. From the moment we sat down, the presentation of the dishes was out of sight--every plate looked thoughtfully composed and full of personality. My son and I even got a kick out of the Beetlejuice-themed bathroom stalls, and the servers rocking lumberjack flannels gave the place a relaxed character that somehow still matched the refined, creative menu. The hospitality matched the fine cuisine perfectly. The cornbread was absolutely to die for, and the short rib & pork belly meatloaf, finished with a bold horseradish sauce, was so good it even made it down my son's throat--and he's pickier than I am. That alone says a lot. When we mentioned who was in our group and the people we knew, Corey took the time to send out a round of mocktails so we could raise a toast together. That kind of thoughtful gesture doesn't go unnoticed. The heated outdoor seating made the space comfortable even on a cooler night. One moment that truly stood out was when our entrées were delivered--a team brought them out and placed all four plates in front of us at the exact same time. It was a small but impressive detail that showed how much pride the staff takes in service. As I sat there enjoying the meal, I noticed the owner/chef making his way around the dining room, introducing himself and checking in with each table. That personal touch gave this modern eatery an old-school hospitality feel that's becoming rare. The new energy and lighting throughout the space are fantastic. Pricing felt fair and well balanced, portions were satisfying without being overdone, and the crowd was a refreshing mix of people from all walks of life. Most of all, I want to extend my congratulations and gratitude to the entire Fig & Ash team. It's clear there's passion behind what's happening here--from the kitchen to the service floor. Pittsburgh is lucky to have a place delivering this level of creativity, hospitality, and genuine warmth. Looking forward to the next visit.

Service was amazing... not over the top just the right amount of catering. It was lowkey and classier than some of the boujier places I've gone to in Pittsburgh... food was phenomenal.. v pricey but nice for a special occasion. I went for Christmas/gift exchange with my bestie and it was worth it!

I want to like Fig and Ash more than I actually do. I'd give it 3.5 stars! Their menu is always interesting but sometimes the execution doesn't live up to expectations. Last time I was there, I was delighted to try the mocktails on the menu! The one I got had a matcha cold foam on the top, which looked more like green mush the way it was executed. Taste wise, it didn't mesh well at all with the sickeningly sweet beverage it was paired with. Then for dinner, I got the duck confit. It was okay, but I found the gnocchi it came with to be really doughy, as if it wasn't fully cooked. My friend and the server also had a bit of tiff, which rubbed me the wrong way. The ambiance is nice though! I'm willing to give them another shot, but I just wasn't impressed.

Is it casual or business casual dress?

I would say smart casual would be the best description. Not really t-shirt and ripped jeans vibe but not super dressy.

Do they have valet parking? If so what time does it close for car pickup?

Is the outdoor seating comfortable in really cold weather?

In November, my party of 4 were seated at a table under one of the ceiling mounted heaters. My friend had to switch seats because it was too hot on her head and face meanwhile I never took my coat off. It probably depends on which table and the… Read more

LOVED our dinner at this place…read more We came here for dinner while visiting Pittsburgh. The first thing that struck me was the interior decor. Very industrial and moody with an open kitchen/preparation area that adds some intrigue. I do like to see the happenings of what's going on as someone with zero attention span. Service was excellent. George was fantastic. He kept a close eye on us without being overbearing. He anticipated what we might need so we didn't spend one second waiting to order anything. The menu is not endless or overwhelming which, presumably, allows them to focus on the items that are listed. I have decision panic so it was kinda nice to have less things to choose from. They asked if there were any allergies or dietary restrictions so I mentioned my vegetarianism. George went through the menu and pointed out the vegetarian options including what seems like it is vegetarian but isn't. They had TWO vegetarian entree options and fortunately the non-mushroom one was something I probably would have ordered anyway: pesto with walnuts, arugula, and a very generous amount of grated cheese. To start, I ordered the Brussels sprouts whichc I was warned had fish sauce. This was fine but nothing that blew me away. GF, on the other hand, loved this. GF ordered the wedge which was brought to our attention as vegetarian with the bacon on the side, which was her request. We ended up sharing both, a large part of that was because hers came out first and I couldn't wait but I'm so glad because the wege was FANTASTIC. The dressing? holy fuck pure ecastasy. The wedge was more like a filet shape which was much easier to eat. Who decided on the wedge shape anyway? The lettuce was so fresh and crisp and went wonderfully with that orgasmic dressing and breadcrumbs. Back to my pasta. Also delectable. Noodles were al dente. The sauce was creamy and packed that pesto umami flavor. The walnuts were a really nice contrast in texture. Everything about it absolutely fucking slapped. GF ordered the mushroom entree which came served on a bed of barley which, don't mind if I do, had a few forkfuls to "sample" for "my review". Again, so fucking good. Because it was my birthday, George provided a dessert (yuzu maybe?) that was served inside a meringue-esque igloo, creamy perfect balance of sweet and tart custard with some berry business underneath. Wonderful. I almost forgot their spectacular cocktails! Holy shit, literally they have a CORN CHIP cocktail that I could not pass up. It comes with two massive cornchips on top of a flavored foam. When you bring the glass up to sip, the cornchips are right in front of your nose and their aroma sets the stage for the drink which was STRONG. It wasn't as corn chip forward as I expected but I understand that flavor is probaly hard to create. For my second drink, I ordered the blue one which was refreshing, light, and really good. GF ordered a spritz which was gorgeous "it was good". For second round, I picked out some uranium thing that was very cucumbery, GF says, "it was good". I just read it outloud to her. "it's true!" Fantastic meal at a great place.

We celebrated our 10yr anniversary here for dinner & it was definitely worth it. Unblemished ambiance & service. We were at the restaurant side- very chic & intimate. They have a casual tavern area along the bar on the other side. And an upstairs section. When you look up, there's an entire wall of huge wine selection. For cocktails we had the Cosmopolitan & Strawberry Smash-- both prepared great! Cosmos are usually a hit/miss situation for me; this was really good though- not too tart nor sweet-- very well balanced w/ a mild hint of vodka coming through, which after a few sips hits you in a nice, soft way. Husb said the Strawberry Smash was bangin!!-- the sibona amaro in it stabilized the fruitiness of the drink. For apps, we ordered the Calamari- it was soooo good & crispy/crunchy, I had to prevent myself from stuffing everything in my mouth! I was a bit sad I had to share this w/ my husb lol. It came with a hot & sour sauce w/ lemon which overall made the dish unique. For entree, I had the Scottish Salmon, came w/ scallops & I added crab cake to it. Succulent salmon was seared w/ great flavor, the sweet corn & pepper mixed in a tomato vinaigrette on the side under the scallops was just unbelievable. The crab cake was cut squared, hands down one of the best cakes. The flavor profile for the entire dish together in a bite was incomparable!! Definitely order this. Husb ordered the Gerber Farms Chicken, amish chicken served w/ risotto, greens on top of thyme jus (akin to a thin gravy). The chicken was cooked well-- juicy on the inside & a nice roast on the outside; the risotto wasnt heavy & didn't weigh the meal down, the thyme jus's flavor was subtle & it elevated the entire dish. For dessert, we got the Chocolate Hazelnut tart & Eleven Candy bar. I legit relished & inhaled the tart despite already being so full. Husb loved the Candy bar. A huge slice of brownie/caramel candy bar w/ chocolate mousse phew! The pics explain how mindblowin' everything was! A real one-of-a kind experience. Ron was great in explaining everything too. Taxes they add to the bill: sales, alcohol & Allegheny tax which raises the end charge. A toast to the chefs & Mixologists here.

My experiences have not been high-end, perhaps more "tinfoil" than sapphire, to say the least....see below. That being said, it's proven to be a very middling experience each time, especially from a service standpoint. Each time has had mysterious delayed times to get waited upon, receive food and drinks, and every time has featured a mysterious disappearing item that we had to politely "remind" the server about after receiving the bill. On this occasion, we were offered to still receive a missing drink even though it was incredibly clear that we were ready to leave. One time, sure, but all three visits have had issues. This time, when the final bill was corrected, the math didn't seem to make sense - removing a $14 drink and the total came out $5 less. I'm being candid in saying instead of even dealing with the server once more, their tip corrected the discrepancy - no issues in dealing with the situation in that manner, given the sub-par service. Unacceptable and frustrating to have 3/3 times experiencing significant service issues. Food-wise, it's a solid "4" rating - salads have all been great, the dishes we'd recommend are the black cod and the short ribs. Good selection of semi-local beer and extensive wine list. It was noted that the menu had "changed" with the season, but the overall menu was 80% the same with some very subtle modifications - all over a two-year period. First time we went here, we sat at the tables above the bar area, and unfortunately there was a very bar-like smell that could be experienced throughout the meal (imagine having fine dining at the Rock Room on Polish Hill) - thankfully these other two times have been in the main dining area, on nights that haven't been very busy (adding to the frustration regarding the service notes above). Honestly, this is a legacy restaurant here in Pittsburgh, it's a shame that newer places with great food + service have a hard time launching in this environment.
