Came here on a Wednesday around noon and there was not a wait at all. The service was great and speedy. I like how big the portions are because they definitely filled me up. I would think that the food is okay. I think they added too much shoyu sauce and it just tasted like salty shoyu drenched rice. I will say the fish is amazing and I can tell is very fresh.

I had the spicy tuna bowl. The tuna was fresh, the rice was good, and the seaweed was good, but some pieces were tough. I wish there were more in the bowl, like more toppings. Just FYI, every topping is extra. One customer got annoyed because the total was high since he added a lot of toppings. I will go back and get a custom bowl. It was pretty busy, but the line moved fast. There is outdoor seating. Parking is limited; there is a lot of street parking. Rating: 4 out of 5

We ordered and took the balls to the nearby park and view which made the experience so much better. The food was very tasty and there are a lot of toppings that can be added. My only complaint is that from their topping list nothing is included, even though it's part of the options I did not think that was fair

Large poke - white rice, ahi tuna + salmon in original sauce with furikake - delicious !!

This place popped out at me on Google maps when I was driving back from Huntington Beach and could not resist after researching the reviews on Yelp and Google and this place is well loved...and I can see why. Parking is tight in front of the store but if you drive past the store a bit, can find residential street parking easily. You order at the window, the menu is simple. Additional toppings cost more so this is different that your chain poke places. You don't need anything extra honestly, the fish is soo fresh and good. I got a large bowl, white rice, original sauce with ahi tuna and salmon and added some furikake on top. Order was ready in a jiffy, everyone all friendly and helpful here. Took my bowl and walked over to Pines Park (8 min) and had a lovely late afternoon lunch, with some sick views and cute doggie watching. Ill be back next time and plan to try the ahi tuna + salmon + octopus combo.

Delicious poke right before you hit the beach! Close quality to what you would find in Hawaii but just not there. The fish was fresh and the texture and serving portion was generous for a regular size! A good amount of fish hides in this square container I got regular with rice white, 1/2 spicy mayo and 1/2 original blend, with salmon. I didn't love that every topping (including furikake!) was an additional price. Premium topping I understand but seasonings felt weird to be charged for. The lines were long as this is a popular go to spot in the OC (so we learned after). But the line moved quick and most are to go. The ambiance was bust and the setting had the charm of a slow weekday, people relaxing and not in a huge rush for their poke. Reminds me of being on vacation. Will def come back if I'm in the area!

I was in the area and had been wanting to try Kawamata Seafood for a while since I'd heard so many good things about it. There is some outdoor seating available but it's definitely more of a grab-and-go spot. Parking on the other hand was a bit challenging. The atmosphere was casual and relaxed. The service was friendly and quick, which I appreciated. We ordered two bowls with salmon and tuna. 1 had the OG sauce and the other had the OG sauce mixed with wasabi. The OG was a little bland for my taste but it was still enjoyable. The wasabi mixed with the OG was definitely more flavorful. Given all the hype I was expecting a bit more flavor overall. The fish itself was fresh and good quality with no fishy aftertaste. The rice, however, was a little dry. The portions were also smaller than I expected for the price and the extra charges for toppings can add up pretty quickly. Overall, it was a decent spot to try if you're in the area but I personally wouldn't go out of my way to visit again. Good quality fish but it didn't quite live up to the hype based on my experience.

If it wasn't for the small portions + expensive pricing, I would have had a better review. The quality of the fish is actually pretty good. I enjoyed the small amount of food I did get. As you can see in the photo I attached if the menu, every single topping is $1.30 extra. Any normal person would want AT LEAST 4 toppings to go with their rice & fish.... So on top of a $16 bowl, you end up with a $25+ bowl somehow. I asked for ginger on the side & they charged me for that too lol

My order was simple but so GOOD. The bowl was prepared super fast. Nice outdoor space to sit down and eat. 10/10 I will be back!!!

Very popular poke spot in South OC, but I didn't think it was that great. Got a large with both tuna and salmon in original flavor with 1/2 rice and 1/2 cabbage salad. Portions aren't that big compared to other places. The original flavor was pretty weak and bland, something was very lacking. It was overall pretty disappointing. Also, sick of these places that charge for every little topping. The line moves pretty fast and the food comes out quick at least.

4.5 I'm so excited that I got to try Kawamata!! I ordered the regular sized bowl with white rice, ahi tuna and salmon with original blend, and topped with daikon radish, seaweed salad, ginger, and scallops as well as a side of spicy mayo. The fish was sooo incredibly fresh, some of the freshest I've ever had. All the toppings were also lovely. The establishment is certainly small and the wait times are long, but I think it's for good reason. I don't know how often I'd make the drive to Dana Point specifically for this meal, but I would definitely grab it if I'm ever in the area for a different reason.

The line can get long but you're only waiting to place an order. It doesn't take that long to get your food. It's not hard to find street parking either. This place is a little pricey but it's worth it. You get a lot of avocado and ginger. I love the original flavor. It makes the rice taste so good. I wish they gave more salmon but I'm still satisfied.

We stopped here for lunch on our way to San Diego. We arrived at 1pm and line was a little long. We waited about 15 mins in line and got our orders with in 10'mins. All of the sudden the line grew so fast. At least 20 people showed up. We got a large and a small to share for 3 people and it was enough. Everything was fresh and well prepared. The add on is about $1.80 each so keep that in mind. It will add up Friendly service. They do have a few tables outside but no dine in. You will need to parking around the area and walk over.

    Kaitlyn K.

Good fresh fish and nice menu with salmon, tuna and octopus options (you can also combine). Small is $13 and large $16.50, but unfortunately all toppings are an additional dollar or so, which can quickly add up if you like to get different additions. Even the furikake is $1! I personally would go elsewhere where I can get an assortment of add-ons, but if you value fish quality more, then definitely come visit! There are a few parking spots and a few seats outside and always a line. The service is prompt and the workers are very friendly.

Let me tell you- the unplanned is always the best! I had been wanting to try it but knowing the other locations had hard parking, and man oh man, one of my favorite meals and so well priced! 1. Red snapper with veggies and mushrooms. Wow! The fish was so full of flavor even before the sauce, well portioned, well priced. And the veggies were filling and cooked to perfection! 2. Fish and chips - have been on a mission to find good fish and chips- the fish was huge, tasty and meaty! Just a bit oily, but still YUMMY! Service: Corrina seriously is the reason I am writing this review! As I was frustrated with the parking situation by the harbor and just tired, she turned around my mood! She was so passionate and joyful about what she does and the food she serves! And she gave us the lowdown on the whole construction situation in Dana point! Thank you for your amazing service!!! Lastly: the inside is so pretty, inviting, and spread out and clean! Def will be back!! Thank you!

Got the: 1) lobster deviled eggs: 10/10, what sets a great deviled egg apart from mediocre ones is the filling, and the filling was absolutely scrumptious. 3 egg halves came with a lobster leg piece each. 2) crab cake: 5/10, never been a huge fan of crab cakes and unfortunately this did not change my mind either. It was still fishy and we ended up using the lemon for the cocktail shrimp on the crab cakes. Definitely will not get again. It's disappointing as seafood from Hook and Anchor is usually higher quality than this. 3) cocktail shrimp: 10/10, Interesting presentation on ice rather than a glass. 6 pieces of large juicy crispy shrimp with delicious cocktail sauce, and I love that they even added an extra dollop of horseradish because I love cocktail sauce with a good kick! 4) 6oz lobster roll: 8/10, the Newport Beach location gets a 10/10 for me because at this location: - The lobster was not very warm by the time it came to the table. - It looked deceivingly overflowing, but they actually did not fill the bottom half of the roll, so if you stuffed it all the way in, then it was just barely filling the roll. - mostly leg pieces and some of them were on the small side TLDR: great for happy hour (be sure to specify happy hour to the hostess to be able to order at the correct seat) but not up to par to the Newport Beach location.

We were seated at 6:45-6:50 and apparently they have a special that ends at 7. The server didn't get to us until after 7 so we asked for the special but you would have thought we were asking for the server's first born. The server/runner who brought our food to our table looked like she was having a rough day. She dropped off the food in the dead center of a large table and said nothing. We happened to stop nearby and decided to look around this plaza. We were starting to get hungry and Glasspar looks like the most appealing option so we decided to check it out. HAPPY HOUR: Mon-Thurs 4:30-6pm, Fri-Sat 4-6pm. Wow what a deal. I normally don't think about happy hour deals on Saturdays but we were pleasantly surprised. It was 5:30pm already so we had to make some quick decisions. Chad was very friendly and helpful with our order. We decided to get a Dozen and a Half Oysters (HH $3/each), an Oyster Shooter (HH $5), Duck Fat French Fries (HH $7), 1/2 lb Steamed Clams (HH $13), and Seafood Poke (HH $12). The specialty cocktails were such a good deal I wanted 2 but asked my boyfriend to order one so I don't look like too much of an alcoholic. I had the White Sangria Spritzer (HH $12) and a G3 (HH $12). Everything came out in a reasonable amount of time and Chad communicated checking on things for us as we were waiting. He was really on top of it. The oysters were awesome! My only regret was not ordering more. For the dozen and a half came with 6 of each of Baracats, Stingrays, and Pacific Plumps. I thought the baracats and stringrays were mild. My favorite was definitely the pacific plumps; it was sweet and creamy with a good bite to it. The shucking was also really well. I just want to give them that credit. The oyster shooter was strong, in a good way. Tasty! The duck fat fries were nice and crispy. It came with a rich truffle aioli. The steamed clams were good, but the slice of bread they gave us with it was burnt to an inedible level. I also would have liked a spoon to sip that garlic white wine and butter liquid. Clams were fresh. The seafood poke came with crispy wonton chips. It was decent. After our original order we decided we wanted to finish off with somethings small, so we got the Clam Chowder ($14). I would have liked it a smidge thicker in texture but the taste and the quality of ingredients are on point. I get the bacon essence and a good amount of clams in the soup too. I'm really glad we added that to our order. I also really like that the check comes in books. Chad told us that we can write a note in it if we want. They look at it like a way to interact with their customers. So cute!! We are DEFINITELY coming back here!! Next time I'll order even more oysters :)
