Spiny Lobster Tails
Linda C.

Nothing like fresh, delicious seafood! Fantastic selections on the menu ... seafood platters to tacos to burritos to salads and more. What I loved was the taste of the freshness of the fish ... not what you would necessarily get at a chain seafood restaurant. We had the spiny lobster tails, fries, coleslaw and an incredibly fresh huge salad! Service was very good and friendly. We sat on the outdoor patio, which was absolutely lovely on this hot day! You have to experience Jon's Fish Market!

Wow--can't believe we've never eaten here after all our visits to Dana Point. What a great little café! We sat outside, which was very pleasant, though I wish I had gone inside to check out the interior as well. Service was a bit slow, but very friendly. Our server was especially kind and welcoming. The food was extremely delicious--fresh, with flavors that were perfectly balanced and complemented each other well. I'm already looking forward to coming back to try more items. The only minor issue was the pigeons. The staff does a good job of chasing them away, but while we were there, some guests fed them, which caused quite a stir. Still, don't let that deter you--the food, service, and overall experience were excellent!

We stopped by today for lunch and waited over 30 mins without a single server stopping by. The table next to us walked out and we ended up doing the same.

We had such a great experience! Chris provided absolutely outstanding service attentive, professional, and genuinely welcoming. He made sure everything was perfect from start to finish. The food was wonderful as usual, and the overall experience was top-tier. We'll definitely be back. Best server ever!

Jon's Fish Market at Dana Point has fresh seafood and a nice waterfront location, which made for a pleasant visit. The food was decent and portions were fair, but the flavors didn't quite stand out. Service was nice though! Overall an okay spot if you're in the area, but there's room for improvement.

The fish at John's Fish market is extremely fresh. We can see why they want an award for 2025.... It's a bit of a gritty fish market hang out. It's been here forever, however , we just came in here because we were going to get a coffee at Cocoa Bloom. The fish and chips are quite good . And I had a Seabass taco. We're hoping that they can replace the outdoor tables with some newer ones . Very dog friendly and we noticed a lot of people getting off of the Catalina express boat came right on over for some fish and chips

Went there for a dinner last Fri night. The whole harbor was abuzz that night due to Xmas boat parade...of course it's the holiday season in general, and it was Friday night ! I got there a half-hour before they close (that night last call was 8:45) and ordered a Halibut dinner with fries and coleslaw, and enjoyed a split of Sauvignon Blanc before and during the meal. It is a paper plate and plastic silverware place, which I'm fine with. It never bothered the Crab Cooker in Newport, and they have been around FOREVER! Halibut was nicely grilled, fries were thin and delicious, coleslaw was fresh and crisp. I must come back for their famous Fish & Chips. Kinda picky about tartar sauce-their's was very good. You can tell they make it, instead of using whatever Sysco sells!

I'm so glad I stepped into this place. I walked in and I was warmly greeted by Jet, who was a very well mannered young man. He was very knowledgeable and friendly to every customer that walked in. You can really tell. He loves his job. The fish was amazing and their french fries were perfectly cooked. The portion size was very generous. I will definitely be back.

Took forever to get our order taken, took forever to get our food. All the food was cold, and not very tasteful. Pigeons everywhere - not really their fault. But really probably better fitted as bird food anyway. Starving and biking four miles to get here. This is all that we have eaten and want no more.

Jon's is and will always be our go to for fish and chips. We have come busy days, and slow days, but every time we sit outside with a cold ice tea and a corona we are happy. Jimmy buffet on their radio, the sound of the harbor, nothing beats it. The service is patio service, not normally dining. Some people complaining about wait times clearly don't go enough to see it's usually a couple of sweet kids handling the crowds and some times it gets busy! We have waited an hour for our food and the sweet waiter brought us some chowder to hold us over and apologized for the wait. But we are so blessed to be waiting on delicious food while being ocean front. We love it here and hope it's here to stay. People want to keep the Dana Point harbor charm? Support your local spots. P.s. my boyfriend didn't like fish till he tried this spot.

This place... fix your service! Come on! 4th of July weekend and you have two servers! Dana Point Harbor on a holiday weekend. DISAPPOINTED.

We went with a large party of 10 about an hour to closing time and Jon's Fish Market did a great job accommodating our group. We ordered the fried and grilled Jon's Combo, grilled Red Snapper catch, and clam chowder. Since they were closing soon and it was a Sunday night, they were running out of a few ingredients towards the end - which Seabass, our server, was super communicative and helpful with! He helped us replace some ingredients that were short with extra shrimp and fries and made sure we were full and taken care of. Super thankful for this team for their service! No problem with parking, and we dined outside with our dog.

Clam chowder
Madeleine L.

Had the clam chowder and fish and chips. Really good chowder and good fish and chips. The service, however, needs serious improvements. There seemed to be no organization. We had many different t people wait on us, but when we needed them, they were nowhere to be found. This was especially true when we wanted to pay. I don't think they have one person assigned to specific tables and that is an issue.

I got a large bowl, white rice, original sauce with ahi tuna and salmon and added some furikake on top. Order was ready in a jiffy, everyone all friendly and helpful here. There is some outdoor seating available but it's definitely more of a grab-and-go spot. Parking on the other hand was a bit challenging. The atmosphere was casual and relaxed. The service was friendly and quick, which I appreciated. We ordered two bowls with salmon and tuna. 1 had the OG sauce and the other had the OG sauce mixed with wasabi. The OG was a little bland for my taste but it was still enjoyable. The wasabi mixed with the OG was definitely more flavorful. Given all the hype I was expecting a bit more flavor overall. The fish itself was fresh and good quality with no fishy aftertaste. The rice, however, was a little dry. The portions were also smaller than I expected for the price and the extra charges for toppings can add up pretty quickly. Overall, it was a decent spot to try if you're in the area but I personally wouldn't go out of my way to visit again. Good quality fish but it didn't quite live up to the hype based on my experience.

Reasonable price for all of this for just under $45 dollars. We sat outside, so inside we did not get to look all that well. But seemed cozy inside to eat too. The decor was pretty nice too. Unfortunately, this visit didn't quite live up to our previous Seasurf experiences. We ordered the shrimp ceviche mixto, calamari, and poke nachos from the happy hour menu. The poke nachos were the standout and tasted just as good as we remembered from other visits. Flavorful with a generous portion of poke, and easily the best thing we ordered. The other two dishes, however, missed the mark. The calamari seemed over-fried and the calamari itself was much chewier than it should have been. The shrimp in the ceviche mixto also tasted overcooked and chewy, which took away from the bright, refreshing qualities that make ceviche enjoyable in the first place. One thing I will say is that the happy hour still appears to offer some solid value. We noticed a lot of people ordering the fish tacos, and at around $3 each, they looked like one of the better deals on the menu. We didn't try them ourselves, but the portions looked generous and they were definitely catching our attention as they came out of the kitchen. Will try that next time! Given how consistently good our experiences have been at the San Clemente location, I'm willing to give this visit the benefit of the doubt and chalk it up to an off day rather than a larger issue. The poke nachos were still excellent, and Seasurf has built up enough goodwill with us over the years that we'll likely be back to give this location another shot. Hopefully next time the execution is a little closer to what we've come to expect from the brand.
