Both locations (Portsmouth NH and Newburyport MA) are small intimate boutiques with just the right amount of offerings in a variation of gem stones. Each piece is exceptional in both the design, setting, and quality of the gem stone. I don't mind paying a bit more knowing that I am getting the highest quality. I made my initial visit to Kaya about a year ago when I passed their Portsmouth store as I had done at least 1,000 times before. This time, I noticed a sign that indicated they did custom design and repairs--exactly what I needed. That's when I met Belinda and Dina and, because of their friendly, welcoming service, I've been back several times to have various pieces of jewerly repaired and/or redesigned. I've been very happy with the quality of work, turn around time and overall service. The selection of jewelry seems to have something for everyone, regardless of price range. I've loved every piece of jewelry that I've received from Kaya and there are a lot of them. My husband then boyfriend has been purchasing pieces since 2011. I get the best compliments every time i wear something. I love that my pieces are unique. My engagement ring is amazingly intricate with beautiful scrolling around the band. Has an antique look to it- the jeweler than made our wedding rings to match the scrolling. Amazing customer service- never had an issue with a return or exchange. Great place to shop for gifts. Another home run! I needed a very special gift for a very special person in my life. For me, that generally requires some thought. But if jewelry is a possibility then Kaya Jewelry is at the top of my list. I was waited on by Mrs. Kaya herself (a highly skilled jeweler/artisan). She recognized me instantly and as usual, I was blown away by the selection. There is literally a style for every kind of taste. Many of the pieces were jaw dropping. And most, hand made by Mr. or Mrs. Kaya or their family. These are one-of-a-kind, heirloom quality pieces. After a search of the store several pieces caught my eye for my current gift requirement. A smart sterling silver, peridot and moonstone bracelet was the first to catch my eye and I won't disclose what I paid but considering the item is one-of-a-kind, created by Mr. Kaya personally, I thought it was a drop in the bucket. I have no doubt that the piece I purchased will hold it's value. If you compare the prices here with any other large corporate jeweler (but you will never find the same quality construction from a large corporate jeweler) you will quickly realize what a wise investment you can make here. The gift that keeps on giving. I have written other positive reviews for this shop as well. If jewelry is a gift option then I would highly recommend a visit to either the Portsmouth or the Newburyport store where you can likely meet the artists in person. I have taken several pieces of jewelry to Kaya before for simple repairs and had no problems. In fact they even went above and beyond once by replacing a small lost stone in a ring for free. One star for that. But my most recent experience there was awful. The owner who worked on my piece had a terrible attitude and did sloppy work. The piece of jewelry was a clear locket that I wanted filled with small loose stones, then sealed shut. The first time I went in to pick it up, it had been filled completely even though the repair slip said to fill it halfway. I spoke to the owner, after trying to talk me into liking it the way it was, he said he would have to charge me several hundred dollars to fix it. I refused, and the next day he called me back and said that he had fixed the piece and there would be no extra charge. I was relieved until I went to pick it up and discovered black burn marks on the inside of the glass. I was horrified and thought the necklace had been ruined, fortunately the marks came off after an extended period of time in the cleaner, but I ended up having to come back a third time before it was finally right. The necklace does look good now and I am happy with it. Throughout all these interactions, the owner never once apologized or acknowledged that there was anything wrong with the piece or his work. Each time, I had to insist that the problem be made right, he never offered to fix them. The owner's bad attitude is mentioned in several poor reviews for their Newburyport, MA store as well. With so many jewelry stores and goldsmiths in Portsmouth, I just can't see a reason to come back here after this experience. Pros: I will say that the women who work in this store are lovely and super nice, the second star is for them. I have never purchased jewelry here, so cannot speak to its quality, but it looks beautiful and the selection is good. read more

Was very disappointed in their customer service. My son's fiancé's engagement ring was lovely, two stones fell out within two months. She was made to feel this was her fault. She also expressed her idea for her wedding ring and the jeweler said he wouldn't design it because it would look terrible with her ring. Purchased my wedding band here and couldn't be happier with it! In the months leading up to my purchase the staff was so nice. I went into the Portsmouth and Newburyport stores multiple times. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. They let me "play", trying on a bunch of different rings. When my husband purchase my wedding band they cleaned, rhodium dipped and repaired my engagement ring, which was purchased elsewhere, for free!! The craftsmanship and customer service is unbeatable. Bought two rings from here. The first one lost 4 small stones within 1 month and bent out of shape. Brought the ring back to exchange it and they agreed for a portion of the original cost. Selected a new ring and within 2 weeks, the main stone fell out and I didn't see it until too late. Their rings are not durable and are of low quality. A charm had fallen off my bracelet that I had gotten from another establishment and do to their great location in Portsmouth I found myself stopping to ask for a quick fix. They were happy to help and did it free of charge which I was immensely grateful. Their stunning cases and unique pieces left me in the store chatting with them longer then I had intended. If you are looking for a kind local business to provide you with a piece of jewelry that no one could possibly have (since many of their creations are hand made there!) you should most certainly stop in. After dinner, I brought my friend who is currently researching what she would like her engagement ring to look like. Even though we weren't yet going to buy, they took us around to every case and let her try on what ever she would like.
