Their inventory shows real skill in selection and many of their items are quite choice. For example, most jewelry stores, new or used, tend to have mostly mediocre low-color milky white opals with just a few nice pieces. Market Square is the reverse: most of their opals are really nice stones, both the whites and the Australians. They obviously know their stuff and weed out the tinsel. There are a lot of unique pieces like insignia rings and unusual pendants. Their online system is excellent and a great way to systematically check the inventory before coming in. The prices here are stiff, but that's what it costs to get a large selection of nice stuff all in one place. If you want cheap jewelry, go to a flea market and sift through the wreckage. Be forewarned that this is an estate jewelry shop. Jewelry services like sizing and things like that are not really their bailiwick.

Stephen and Jill helped us create a stunning non-traditional engagement ring (blue sapphire with diamond halo) that was better than anything we found online or in other stores around the NH seacoast. After researching options for several months (stones, settings, metals, styles, etc.) we came to Alie knowing that we'd need to build the ring the from scratch--which felt very intimidating at the time. But Stephen and Jill were there to guide us during every step of the process. Stephen is an AGS certified gemologist and helped us tremendously with not only finding sapphires that were the right color/size/clarity, but also evaluating them to find the highest quality stones to fit our budget. He sourced several different loose stones that fit our criteria and got them in the store to see for ourselves. My fiancée immediately fell in love with one of the sapphires (the color blue was perfect) and we were halfway there. We then worked with Jill on finding a diamond halo setting that would work with the round sapphire and also be sturdy enough to fit my fiancée's lifestyle (teacher/runner). Jill poured through all the options with us and was very transparent with pricing. She helped us understand how different design, metal, and stone variations would all affect our costs. In the end, she helped us create a beautiful white gold diamond halo setting that looks absolutely stunning with the sapphire. It's been a few months since our engagement and my fiancée is still obsessed with her ring. And I'll admit that since I was so involved in the process, I'm minorly obsessed with it too. She gets so many compliments and we've been recommending Alie to everyone we know. I should also add that we had the ring appraised by a third party jeweler for insurance purposes, and it appraised for significantly above what we paid for it. I'm honestly not surprised though. I knew as soon as I saw the finished product that they helped us create an amazing ring. I cannot recommend Stephen and Jill enough. Their knowledge, patience, expertise, and attention to detail were a saving grace during what could have been an overwhelming process. We're looking forward to visiting them again to choose our wedding bands. If you're considering buying a ring online or at another NH jewelry store, do yourself a favor and visit Alie Jewelers instead. They mentioned getting my ring rhodium plated to brighten up the white gold, and I agreed. The quote I received was $339. I thought that was a little high but do-able. They said they'd have the jeweler take a look and call me if it would be over the quote they gave me. Four days later I get a call telling me the head of my ring needed to be replaced, the prongs were worn. They said I needed the ring re-tipped, and I needed a new shank (which I knew would be necessary since I needed the ring sized up) but also that my enhancer was worn out and the setting for my 24 smalls diamond was worn. All of that along with the rhodium plating would be $1,325 (to do all of that work with just one shank) or $1,675 (with all of that but replacing with three shanks). That is more than quadruple my initial quote. I was expecting maybe $100 to $200 at the very most over quote. Not $1,000 to $1,300, over. It's pretty obvious they didn't want to do the work on my ring and way overpriced it so I'd go to someone else. Apparently my ring wasn't important or expensive enough for them to work on. Why not just tell me you didn't want to work on it? I went to another jeweler in Portsmouth with amazing reviews and was appalled to hear I didn't need most of that work done. I will eventually need to, but it wasn't something that needed to be done right away. This new jeweler said they would give me a call if my ring would cost more than $100-$200. Now THAT is a reasonable price to pay for the work I wanted done. I have had my wedding ring for 18 years and adore it. It means the world to me, and I find my ring worthy of repair. Summerwind apparently thought otherwise. I do not recommend them. They are way overpriced and if they're overpricing things because they don't feel like doing the work, how would the customer even know that? I'm so disappointed in my experience here and will obviously never go back.

This business is very good with gaslighting people. They told the cops that I ruined it myself which is not true. My stone is from Brazil and it's high-quality. They ruined my bracelet the memory of it everything about it.. these people don't care about their customers. It's a shame. My gemstone was never pink even when I brought to them to get fixed. Wear and tear absolutely but my problem was the gemstone was not the same when I got it back. They had me convinced nothing was wrong with it until I wore it for a day then went to another place to have it evaluated. It's not in the same condition. You need to heat a stone like this up to 500° to get it to change to a pink tint. Blaming a customer is wrong. I will only deal with established BBB members from now on. Lesson learned
