TL;DR: Poor customer service, dismissive communication, and inconsistent standards. I'd rather commute back to Brooklyn--where veterans of color and their pets are actually valued--than deal with this again. --- I used Kayla's grooming services before for my two miniature golden doodles, and when I moved back to the area, I figured I'd return to a place I had previously trusted. After enough frustrating experiences at PetSmart, I decided I'd rather spend extra for consistency, quality care, and to support a fellow veteran-owned small business. Unfortunately, this experience was anything but that. When I called, the person who answered seemed dismissive from the start. I explained who I was and mentioned my one prior visit about a year and a half ago. She asked for my availability, and I told her I was flexible--whenever they had space. She seemed irritated that I didn't use their online portal, but with two dogs, it's often easier to coordinate schedules over the phone. I was upfront about my dogs being a bit fluffier than usual and possibly matted due to a hectic winter, a move, and being a college veteran student managing limited funds. I made it clear I was completely fine with a low cut. That's when the conversation took a turn. She immediately told me they would not be seen due to matting. On top of that, she claimed that during their last visit--over a year and a half ago--my dogs were "problematic." This was the first time I had ever heard that. When I picked them up back in 2024, I distinctly remember Kayla speaking positively about their behavior. If there were concerns, why weren't they communicated then? And more importantly, why ask for my availability at all if you had already decided not to service my dogs? The inconsistency and lack of transparency were frustrating. On top of that, the phone rang endlessly before being answered, and my first call was actually disconnected, forcing me to call back just to speak with someone. For a business that prides itself on quality service, the customer experience felt like an afterthought. I work hard for my money and for my dogs, and I choose to spend it at places that respect both. Choosing to bring your pet here feels like a gamble--you may get great grooming, but you may not get basic respect or clear communication. Lastly, during my first visit, I wasn't aware they offered a veterans discount. When I mentioned that I was a 14-year Army Special Operations veteran, there was no effort made to acknowledge or adjust the pricing. At the end of the day, I'd rather take my time and money back to Brooklyn, where I know veterans of color--and their pets--are treated with the respect and value they deserve. read more

We have had three grooming at Kayla's and couldn't be more pleased. Our Portuguese Water Dog looks absolutely beautiful after each visit. The staff is friendly and professional. They never cage dogs while they're waiting for grooming, or pickup. We all love our dogs and if you're looking for a consummate pro, it's Kayla. read more

Just be prepared to have to bring your dog in for grooming every 8 weeks or you will be denied. I admit I only bring my dog in two to three times a year and supplement at home, at $200 a visit it's too pricey for me. Also if your dog has anxiety with grooming they may not accommodate. My dog has not an ounce of aggression but gets very nervous about being groomed. Last time I brought her in the staff said she was great with the medication I had her on but told by owner this was the other reason why she could not come back. While the owner was quite nice and the facilities clean, the price was outrageous for a simple puppy sanitary cut (eyes, paws, potty areas, no body at all) that was ultimately an uneven trimming around the eyes that I had to clean up more at home so my girl could totally see. On top of that, despite her saying my pup was so well behaved, she encouraged 2-3 more of these types of cuts within a few weeks before a true haircut so she could "get used to it". We have been trusting Kayla's Pretty Paws for our dog Grooming's for over a year now-- Kayla is reliable, her shop is ALWAYS clean and our dog is in and out of his appointment. The booking process is simple and this business also sends you appointment reminders a couple of days prior to your appointment and the day of. Kayla's team texts us when he is ready for pickup and while your pet waits for you they are kept away from other dogs in their own little stall as shown in the photos from this business. We appreciate this as other groomers in the area put our dog in a very small crate or in a room with other unfamiliar dogs. Kayla and team store your information in their system so upon arrival they know exactly the type of cut they did last time on your pet and maintain consistency with each grooming to your liking. Kayla's team doesn't overbook so your dog/pet is typically seen on arrival versus spending half the day in a crate awaiting their turn. This is also lovely for me because I have an idea of when he will be ready for pickup so I can plan my day accordingly. If you take good care of your dog/pet and are bringing him or her for a grooming of any sort and you choose not to ignore your appointment reminders & show up to your appointment as it was scheduled then the negative comments below shouldn't steer you away from Kayla's Pretty Paws :) read more

A dog groomer who doesn't actually want to... you know... groom dogs. If your dog's hair is too long- won't do it. Matted? Probably won't do it. "Too dirty?" Go elsewhere. And all of this might be okay is the owner wasn't the most condescending person working in customer service. On top of that, every time the dog has been there, there has been an extra charge for one thing or another. There are plenty of wonderful groomers out there, save yourself some money and hassle and find one of those. Now based on what I've seen on other sites, I'm sure it's only a matter of time before Kayla comes in and calls this review dishonest. read more

Wonderful, caring groomer. My 13 yo German Shepherd was cared for with such kindness and Kayla was able to attend to his nails when he could barely walk. I have a new GS pup and I will definitely bring him to Kayla after his last shots are completed. Ignore the questionable ratings. If you let a dog get matted, that's your responsibility ( or irresponsibility) mot the groomers. Get a breed or mix that does not mat if you can't manage the care the dog's coat requires. Before getting my Goldendoodle, Bennett, I wanted to ensure we would have a reliable groomer to take him to regularly. One of the top searches that came up was for Kayla's, so we started booking with them as soon as he was of age to get him accustomed to the grooming experience, sounds, feelings, and noises. We eventually stopped taking him and now go to a different groomer for the reasons outlined below: 1) When our dog was a bit younger, we took him to the groomers at Kayla's for a bath/puppy trim to get him used to grooming. He was roughly 4 months old at this point and was close to finishing his shots/had just finished them (if I'm not mistaken, he had an appointment the same day as his bath following getting his latest round of shots). We live in an apartment complex with many dogs, so his safety and keeping him updated on vaccines was our first concern. After his grooming appointment, one particular member of the staff started telling me about how it was unsafe to take him to potty outside without being fully vaccinated and giving time for his vaccines to come into full effect, how socializing him wasn't good either, and discussing bacteria on the ground living for up to 10+ years (which also would have been a risk if we were homeowners) along with how they didn't agree with the vet's general recommendations for our pup and their neuter timeline. Again, we had just come from a vet appointment where the vet encouraged and condoned this. They were pretty defensive about this, and I left feeling a bit attacked regarding how our trainer, vet, and my family chose to raise our dog. 2) The second issue occurred on a separate cut, where a portion of his head was left uncut. Because he had been blown out, we noticed about four days later when his curl pattern came back a bit. When we did notice this, we called to see if this could be remedied with a quick snip. The front desk member said no, and that we could instead book a bath at 20% off for that week, and they could cut it, but he had JUST been groomed, so this wasn't needed. We then asked if we could wait a bit and have it fixed when he would require a bath using their self-service bath, but they said it was not being offered as it was a busy season. The front desk associate was a bit defensive about this, stating that it would be rough on their tools and that there wasn't anything they could do. This was a negative experience because a simple fix should be done when something is noticed to be wrong or done incorrectly, especially such a small fix within an acceptable time frame. I would have been willing to tip for a quick snip on one area on top of the tip provided for the original and incorrect service, but this didn't happen. 3) The third issue occurred at our last appointment. From the second issue to this noted issue, we didn't have enough time to search for a full groomer to the extent we would like, and Kayla did a decent job, so we took him back. We asked for him to be kept long and fluffy, which they agreed to, as we take excellent care of his grooming at home. I dropped him off early, maybe 15 minutes, to ensure I was on time and he was done at the expected time. At Kayla's, dogs are booked by weight, and he was booked at his appropriate weight at the time (36-70 lbs). However, when I picked him up, the person at the desk told me that he would need to be booked at a higher weight and time (and, of course, a more expensive option) as his long coat made him take longer than anticipated to dry. Again, he was dropped off and picked up at the appropriate time, so I didn't understand why this was being discussed. After encountering multiple issues, we decided to look into other groomers. Kayla's did a great job at grooming our dog for the most part, but their customer service is lacking. I never left feeling "great." They charged more than other groomers in the area, but it always felt as though they were unsatisfied and out for more despite paying promptly and tipping. We were given unwelcome advice about caring for our dog outside of the grooming realm, which would have been fine if it had been asked, but instead left us feeling uncomfortable. All in all, they are fine groomers but expect to pay a premium for mid-level service. read more

I've absolutely recommend this place. I've known the owner since we were kids and I know how much dedication and love she puts into her business and animals. Many people want to put negative reviews but don't take time to put in the positive once. Kayla does a great job and if she charges extra for the services it is well deserved. If your dog is matted and she doesn't want to do it, it is her right as the business owner to make the choice but it is also the pet owner's responsibility to take care of their animals so they're not matted in the first place then to blame a business. read more

I gave this business one star because it wouldn't let me leave no stars. I highly recommend using a different groomer. The staff is fine but the owner is rude, condescending and would be better off grooming dogs and leaving her staff to deal with customers. She refused to groom my dog because I told a staff member I wouldn't be coming back after being told I was charged a $30 fee for rescheduling my appointment from 10 am to 12 pm because I had a flat tire. I was confronted by the owner and was told I she would not groom my dog because I was hostile. Then she charged me a cancellation fee. I feel sorry for her staff and suggest they look for employment elsewhere since this business can't last. Read other reviews and you will see how it always the customers fault. I want to give this business 5 stars and recommend it to all my family and friends! I find the one star reviews completely inaccurate and unreliable and this business deserves nothing more than positivity. If your dog is matted and you find it unnecessary to have shaved, you're wrong. It would not be done unless it is NECESSARY. Clearly the pet owners are not taking care of their animals in the first place for the animal to get to that way. If anything she is doing the animal a favor. Not only did she go out of her way to educate me on the grooming process for my new puppy she was willing to go step by step to make sure my 4 month old cavapoo had the best, least anxiety provoking experience possible.
