Things like that make you appreciate an establishment much more. The sushi was basic in my opinion. Nothing incredible, but not bad by any means. The highlight for me was the katsu. Unexpectedly, it was the star for us - super crunchy, juicy, and delicious! They have a lot of Korean and Japanese options on the menu, which I can appreciate. The place was clean and tidy. Chirashi bowl: This was recommended by the owner. He said there was a specific type of fish that they usually don't serve. Anyway, it is an assortment of sashimi. Quality of tuna and salmon were just average. Tasted pretty fresh but I've had fresher for sure. The tuna seemed a little old. it was mostly rice, but what can you expect. We arrived here on Friday night - very packed, had to put in our phone number and wait for 15 minutes, but it was so worth it. The sushi is top tier and so flavorful. My favorites were the Tiger roll and the Hanamaki roll, but you can't go wrong with any choice. There's so many options, make sure to come hungry! The servers and chefs are nice, the chef even told us what each roll was as our server was learning, and the chef also checked in with our table a couple of times. The place has a nice atmosphere too, showing Korean shows and some Japanese cooking programs at the time we went. Absolutely beautiful place, the waiter/host was helpful and made recommendations. I finally tried tamago for the first time and that was incredible. We only got sushi and a few nigiri. The sushi was very fresh, the prices were reasonable and because this is not something I can readily make at home, I do not mind paying extra for it. During our visit, there were several carryout happening and they all seemed to be regulars at this spot and it's definitely a spot worth stopping by. read more

Excellent food! Loved the S&T roll. Not a big roll but very high quality. Great balance with the citrus flavor from the lemon slice on top. Ramen is also decent. Meat is very tender. Soup had good flavor and not overtly salty. Also got their bibimbap (not pictured). Nothing special but nothing to complain about. I would stick with the Japanese dishes though. Environment was good. This local sushi spot does not disappoint. They are located in a plaza on square lake and Livernois. The inside isn't very big and they seem to do more takeout than dine in for the past few years. Prices are reasonable. I only order the veggie rolls. Avocado, AAC, sweet potato tempura, and a shiitake one that isn't on the DoorDash or take out menu. I've had the salad before but the ginger dressing was watery and so I wouldn't recommend that. Overall, great takeout sushi option IMO. read more

Just wanted to update my review! I've been coming here since they opened pre-pandemic and this place has never disappointed me. It's the only sushi restaurant my family and I will order from. The fish is always fresh and high-quality. I've tried many of the rolls on the menu and I find myself craving them all the time (try the Kazoku, the Oishii, or Spicy Dream!). Even now that I'm pregnant and can't have raw fish, there's still plenty of options for me on the menu, and they are always kind enough to adjust if I need a substitution. The prices have remained reasonable, even with inflation driving up prices everywhere else. The owners and employees are super friendly and take the time to greet me by name whenever I come to pick up an order. I recommend them to anyone and everyone that asks if I know of a good sushi place. I love Kazoku and I hope it stays apart of our community for many years to come. read more

Well first off, the good was pretty good. I've been going here since 2018 and feel like the food is getting a bit pricey for the portions that are given (nigiris & rolls are small). I would recommend the katsu if you order anything! The breading on it is fantastic. I usually do take out & unfortunately had a long wait time when I dined in :( ambience was chill! We were waiting for 30 minutes for an order of katsu and one roll. There were a lot of people that day and staff apologized for the wait. I would like to come in again one of these days when they are less busy. read more

I've been here a handful of times since they first opened and let me tell you - this place has the best bento boxes in town. Today just confirms it once more! Talk about consistency through the years. My wife got the salmon bento which is my favorite. Crisp skin on the bottom salmon glazed with a teriyaki sauce. I got the chicken katsu which is fabulous as well. The most amazing side(s) in the box is probably the tempura. The crispiness of the battle is unbelievably. When you take that first bite, you feel, taste, and hear a crunch that is rare for tempura. You get a piece of shrimp, Korean sweet potato, regular sweet potato, zucchini (or courgette if you're English), and dumpling all deep fried in this fantastic batter. Other small touches you don't see elsewhere are the picked cucumbers and what I'm told onions on the side too. Overall, best place in town or in the general area for bento box lunches and boy do I like my bento boxes! PS service and ambiance was on point as well! Love how they give you a full cup of beautiful large ice cubes for you to pour water over. Never need to ask for more water this way haha. read more

This place was carryout only when I visited, which was fine because that way my coworker and I could just eat the food at the office. First, the positives: they have friendly staff working there, and they left a good impression despite limited interaction (since I just went in to get my food). It's nice that the meals came with miso soup at no charge. We ordered a couple shrimp tempura rolls to share, which were decent - the shrimp was not too greasy. My friend seemed to enjoy her spicy California roll. Unfortunately, I found the sushi rice to be bland overall, lacking sufficient vinegar seasoning. The tamago I ordered was interesting, because it wasn't attached to sushi rice like I'm used to (but since the rice wasn't great, it doesn't matter too much). The flavor of the tamago was okay, but nothing noteworthy. The beef bulgogi roll was weird - the two do not go together well in my opinion. With so many other places in Troy to try and existing favorite restaurants, I don't see myself choosing this one, although I wouldn't be opposed if someone wanted to eat here. read more

I went to this place because I stumbled upon it on yelp during a search. I live in Bloomfield Hills but It interested me because of its sushi menu choices. They offer a huge array of sushi roll options. But at the same time they offer simple traditional rolls with ingredients that make sense together. These days sushi places have ridiculous rolls. Full of cream cheese and fried tempura something. I like a nice soft shell crab roll once in a while but all the fried stuff interferes with the clean flavors. I got the sky roll. And what my server said was a popular, the S&T roll. Also, seaweed salad and a miso soup. I was very happy. The sky roll was amazing! Everything I love. Salmon, tuna, yellow tail, and scallion. The sushi rice was perfect. Not to soft but not hard or dry. And also, just not to much rice. That's horrible to me. Who likes a one inch thick wrap of rice around their fish roll. Not me! The S&T roll was as good as my server said it was. Loved it. The miso soup was excellent. Piping hot and fresh tasting. The seaweed salad was good but a little too sweet for me. I like a little more vinegar. The young man that helped me was so courteous, friendly, and helpful. Just a nice guy. I'll definitely be back even though it's a trek for me. Very cute inside. Cozy. Came here for the first time with a couple friends for sushi, but was pleasantly surprised they have more than sushi! They have Korean, Japanese cooked dishes as well. We shared a large sushi fish only platter, no rice. It had I think 7 different kinds of fish and squid. It was very good. We had soup, it had big fat noodles. It was good but hard to eat. We had a Korean big hot stone bowl dish with rice, an egg and vegetables. We stirred it up and split it. It was very good, like a fried rice. We all had hot tea, it was good and our server, maybe the owner, belt our tea cups full all night. Service was excellent. We were there 2 1/2 hours. Would definitely go back! read more

Oh yes. One of my favorite places. They always have certain special fish they have for the day. Always check the chalkboard to see what they have! I always miss the O toro though. Sells out fast. I enjoy the sea bream which they have often. My go to order from here is the square lake roll and some nigiris. You must get their square lake roll! It's deliciously amazing!!!!! My favorite roll. The salmon skin roll is delicious here too. One of the best spots so far. In my opinion. What a lot of places including this place do with a dynamite roll is make it SUPER spicy but no flavor. I did a whole bunch of research on Yelp and ordered two recommended dishes - the S & T Roll and the Square Lake Roll, and they were both amazing choices S & T roll: the lemon added a nice, fresh kick! Ratings for Kazoku Sushi on Yelp caught my attention and I had bookmarked it for a future visit. Today is the future. We arrived just as they opened and it wasn't crowded, yet! We were seated and given tea (Genmaicha) and menus along with a small dish of a Sunomono Appetizer. We studied the lunch menu and I was focused on the selection of Bento Boxes as they are usually a very good deal. I chose the Bulkogi Bento Box and my wife chose the Salmon Bento Box, both of which came with Miso Soup, Fried Rice, Ginger Salad, 2-pc Shrimp Tempura, 3-pc Veggie Tempura, 1pc Fried Gyoza, and 3-pc Sushi Roll. We also ordered an Eel Cucumber Roll to split because...Kazoku Sushi... First came the Miso Soup, followed quickly by side dishes (mini Banchan) consisting of Kimchi (very spicy) and Takuan, very tasty and great starters! Then the Bento Boxes arrived. First of all, taste-wise, everything was delicious. A few minor pet peeves of mine are the lack of Daikon Oroshi (many restaurants skip this grated radish unless they are going for authentic Japanese), Gyoza appeared deep fried not my preference pan fried then steamed, and they used Eel Sauce on the Salmon. All were still very good but just not how I prefer. You may be wondering, but what about the Eel Cucumber Roll; it didn't come out because they were backed up with sushi orders. We decided to cancel the order but then the Sushi Chef came out, apologized for the delay, and said it would be ready in less than five minutes so we decided to wait; it was worth the wait. And it was complimentary due to the delay. Overall, this is a great place to eat: service was great (I didn't catch her name but the young lady serving us was all over the restaurant like she was on roller skates-amazing!), staff are friendly and welcoming, and the food taste is well worth the visit. The minor points mentioned are not enough to lower the rating on an otherwise very pleasant meal at an impressive restaurant. We will definitely be back! read more

There's no spicy chicken or scallops and shrimp dishes here. The Korean menu page is mostly crossed off, no Pajeon, no black bean noodles, no spicy stir fried octopus. The menu has already put me in a bad mood for tonight's experience. This place is making it hard for us to have a good Korean meal for our Christmas Eve dinner. They brought us out barley tea, water and a cucumber salad with a bit of krab in it. Started off with the snow cone minus the fish eggs, 2 ginger salads, spicy crab salad, tofu dolsot bibimbap with the egg fully cooked and the kkanpunggi. The miso is watered down and flat, can barely taste the miso paste, needs more of it to make it a bit more prominent. I get why it's free, would have sent it back if I had paid for it. The spicy crab salad tastes good, delicious, definitely. Slightly tasty and packed with a lot of flavor. The snow cone is piping hot and was slightly crunchy and good stuff. The ginger dressing isn't bad. The banchans are kimchi and pickled radishes. The pickled radish tastes off to me. The kimchi is okay, average. The tofu dolsot bibimbap is very vanilla, spinach, carrots, bean sprouts, zucchini and fried egg. The kkanpuggi is heavily breaded and quite fatty. The Japanese apps and starters were all 4s for me except for the miso soup. The tofu dolsot bibimbap was about a 3 and the kkanpunggi was about 2 at most. Poor cuts of meat for my liking. It's costly for what we got tonight. $52.32. The updated one star is due to the foul and and rotten personality of the owner. The food was still overall a 3 to me. PS. It's laughable if the owner thinks his patrons are to ask for permission to take photos for a review to make sure the chef/staff that are in view are all dolled up. PSS. Correct. I wasn't elated about not being able to order the Korean dishes I wanted given this place clearly comes up as having Korean cuisine. Perhaps remove that off your business if you don't want people to come to your establishment for Korean cuisine. However, my review and rating of the food consumed is accurately reflected in the body of this review. I thought the food overall was average at best and not special at all. I was present at your establishment for a good food experience, knowing it was sushi first and Korean food as secondary, although it was less than a stellar experience and your lash back response makes it seem you are too sensitive and should consider the business you are in may not be a good fit, since you definitely don't welcome honest and open opinions and reviewers.
