I recently went for a friend's birthday dinner. The decor up front is all bamboo. The sushi was delicious and they give you plenty of food. Noodles also come with the meal. I ordered a sake sangria that just tasted like peach schnapps and pineapple juice. There was supposed to be cranberry juice in it but the drink was all yellow. We used to love to order to go side items, in particular fried rice and lo-mein noodles to go with our protein that we cook at home. When we ordered for the first time we were pleasantly surprised on the amount of food we got. However the last two times have been a joke....literally 3 orders of noodles equalled one order. **Do not go if you have food allergies*** The first time I went I told them I have celiac disease and asked if they could accommodate which they said yes. They cooked my food in the kitchen. Long story short the dressing on the salad must of had gluten because I didn't feel well for the next few days..this was confirmed when I went back for Father's Day and this waitress told me I could not eat it. I asked them if they could cook it in the back and the waitresses response was "they get mad when we do that he can cook it on the grill separate." I said I have celiac disease nothing can touch and she assured me. I ate it again against my better judgement (that's my fault for trusting) and instantly felt my mouth start on fire which happens when I am cross contaminated. I tried to figure it out and then realized I didn't catch the fact that while they cooked my food first for each round...they used the same utensils throughout. My own fault for trusting them twice but they truly just don't take allergies serious. My mouth is now going to be open wounds for the next two weeks. I'm praying that's the worst of it because I get brutally sick if I am glutened.. if I accidentally ate it straight then I will be in the ER within the next few days. Everything else seemed good but do not go here if you have severe allergies. They do not take them serious. read more

An absolute embarrassing staff, when you go to hibachi more than half of the experience is the chef, servers, and the "show". And in this instance it was absolutely terrible, the waitress was soo terrible we thought we were being punked. Not only did she have zero personality, she also was terrible at her job. She got nothing right, she was completely absent, and never checked on us. We had to ask to manager for refills or an extra glass, and the worst part is tip was included here to she made 120$+ for doing less than nothing. Also when you go to hibachi you expect a little bit of a show, nothing crazy but maybe an onion volcano, maybe some flying broccoli or a sake stream. We got nothing! He quickly cooked the meal and left, it was very disappointing. Love Osaka Japanese Steak House on 15 mile. Been coming here for years now. This is my go to birthday place. Always seem to have Casey as my hibachi chef and he is A+. I usually get the Filet Mignon dinner and add fried rice. So much food! Tastes like hibachi (which I like). Service is always excellent and the restaurant is allergy conscious. Came here with my coworkers on a Sunday, it was super slow which was nice for us (party of over 10 people). Drinks were yummy, especially the leeche cocktail, LOVE! Great selection of beers as well. Onto the food, I would say it was a bit expensive, I spent over $60 for my meal and I believe I chose regular steak (which was extremely tender). Found this place on Yelp! They have plenty of accessible parking and an elevator to go up the the stairs on the inside. Service was great and some we came at a weird time our food was prepared quickly. The food was delicious! I ordered the hibachi steak with fried rice. I was given the vegetables, noodles, soup and salad as part of the meal. I definitely think it's one of the better hibachi restaurants in metro Detroit. Absolutely shameful, overpriced, and disgusting! This place should be shut down and the owners should be ashamed of the slop they're trying to pass off as food. Somehow I had one good meal at this place in the past but my last experience here was horrific just a few months later. Don't be deceived by the atmosphere of the restaurant that looks kind of nice because you'll be served an overcooked meal that belongs in the trash. If every dish they serve is cooked so poorly, you can only imagine how disgusting the kitchen must be and how low their standards are. Osaka's cooks even managed to burn my soup which I'm sure was an incredible achievement for their negligent staff. When I let the team know how horrible the food was, the manager just gave me attitude and was rude about it. This is the only restaurant I've ever been to that I'd celebrate if it closed its doors indefinitely. Disgusting and not worth a dollar let alone the hundreds they're making serving inedible garbage. My only regret is I didn't take photos of the entire worthless meal to share online. Looking forward to the day this place shuts down which will likely happen when they give multiple people food poisoning! read more

My first time at Osaka and it definitely didn't disappoint! The sushi was great! It all tasted very fresh and the sauces were perfect. The hibachi wasn't my favorite but there were good parts. I am obsessed with the noodles, rice, and veggies. It was so flavorful! Next time I want to order just the hibachi noodles I am seriously still drooling about it. Way better than the chain hibachi restaurants. This place wins hands down. The restaurant is festively decorated and spic and span clean. There is lounge seating or grill tables for the full hibachi experience. The are so many apps to choose from. We tried the shrimp tempura, veggie tempura and soft shell crab. various sake mixersThey have a nice cocktail menu wuth lots of choices. My favorites are the sake mixers like the White peach passion with cold sake and peach schnapps. Yummy! Next onto the main course. I had hibachi salmon and shrimp and my friend had chicken and shrimp. The lunch portions are huge and felt much more like dinner sizes. You will need a to go container and you will tickled by the finishing touch of the folded to go bag reminiscent of origami. I have never been to a Japanese Steakhouse, but remember the Saturday Night Live take on them. (Really dating myself aren't I since that was in the 1970s). So when the Meetup group scheduled a dinner, I looked forward to seeing it live. You do have to ask for a grill table, so remember that when you call for a reservation. We lucked out and they could seat our party of 7 at one. I will admit that social distancing between chairs didn't happen, but we tried. The soup and salad course came out while the chief was gathering the ingredients for the main entrees and show. It was a show starting with an onion volcano moving to fancy knife work. All entrees get rice, noodles, and veggies. The chief looked at his meat list to get the correct meats to the correct person. He did mess up and give me chicken before he gave me my shrimp and filet mignon. Other dinners got salmon, scallops, or ribeye. The amount of food you get lives lives up to the tales you have heard. I got a nice meal with the soup and salad along with some of the entree. What I took home made 3 more meals. While the price might seem high to some, the quality, the amount of food, the the entertainment you get seeing you meal being cooked is worth it. So happy to see Osaka opened a location in Oakland County! The hostess stand had a note that said, "all parties must have everyone inside the building to sit down - all reservations are honored for 15 minutes! No exceptions." So that is good to know. Beautiful interior! The cherry blossoms and rich wood. The place was clean and welcoming. Our waiter was great - attentive and friendly. The whole staff was great! The sushi menu was vast and had tons of options. But I went with the hibachi lunch special. The miso soup and salad were excellent and great start of the meal. Good amount of dressing with the salad and the soup was hot. The hibachi shrimp was delicious and came with noodles and veggies. Great portions, especially for lunch. White rice came with lunch and I got a side of the yumyum sauce - so good! You can upgrade to fried rice for an extra $2.00. All this food for just $13! Free refills on pop. I came here for dinner with a meet-up group at the end of July. I have been to Hibachi restaurants before and most of them since I went Gluten Free. I read reviews here and on Find Me Gluten Free app prior to RSVPing to the event. This is definitely one of the better options for getting Hibachi and being gluten free. You have to make a reservation but you always have had to do this at Hibachi restaurants unless you come at a weird time. The tables were socially distanced from each other but not necessarily at the table. So basically, they aren't using all the tables but you can still put 7 people at a table. We were 7 at our table so we were a bit tight together. We had been pre-approved to have separate checks which were done at the time of reservation. I was able to order pretty much everything (if I had wanted to) with a little modification. I went for Hibachi Salmon which I had not seen at other Hibachi restaurants. My salad has to have a different dressing which is fine because that is typical. Pasta comes with your order and this was definitely an item that I could not have because they only had wheat pasta. However, you get so much food, I really didn't miss it. Being gluten free, your food is cooked in the back on a separate cooking surface. All of my food came out correctly and hot. I got enough food for lunch the next day as I had purposely eaten lightly that day. I will definitely be back! read more

I came here with my family for a hibachi dinner. The weight wasn't too long. It was quite busy, but they were able to see us fairly quickly. The staff was really nice and the service was very prompt. It did take a while for our hibachi to start, however our appetizers and Sushi items came out fairly quickly. The hibachi chef was really nice and funny and presented a wonderful show. He was accommodating to keeping the ingredients separate for our allergies and was cognizant of what ingredients were going in each menu item. once the hibachi was completed, we were able to enjoy our food and relax until the restaurant closed. The food tasted really good and felt that everything was cooked properly. The sushi was fresh and tasty, and the portions were very generous. The ambience was somewhat dark and felt like it was too to see anything around the restaurant. The noise level was not too bad I was able to have a conversation with the whole party. I would recommend this place for anyone in Detroit looking for a fun, relaxing, hibachi experience. I did find the price to be a little bit more expensive given the area however, for a special occasion, I can see it being justified. Looking forward to going there again. read more

I came here tonight with my boyfriend to celebrate my birthday - it was last weekend but I was out of town. I pass by Osaka every day on my way to work and I love hibachi, so I had been wanting to try it. We had a 6pm reservation and were sat immediately, albeit at the hibachi table closest to the door (which, on a cold day like today, didn't bode well). For some reason, no one else was sat with us, which was fine. The table next to us had a ton of children, too, who were well-behaved but a bit loud. We started with a California roll (yes, I like "white" girl sushi.... I'm not super adventurous with sushi) which was fine. The soup and salad was brought at the same time, after that; the soup was a beef broth and very good, and the salad was good too, with a peanut sauce. I also had a pot of green tea. The hibachi chef was personable and cracked jokes. He also did the trick where he tried tossing tiny pieces of shrimp into people's mouths (not mine, I don't usually like seafood). I had the filet mignon with fried rice and my boyfriend had the NY strip steak. All of the food was very tasty here, though the fried rice was a little salty, and service was very quick - because of that, our meal barely lasted an hour. Between that and the boisterous kids at the table next to us (obviously not something they can control), it felt less like a special birthday dinner and more like a "hurry up and eat" type situation, even though service was excellent. I kind of felt rushed although they made no move to kick us out once we had finished eating. (And before you ask, I didn't mention it was my birthday dinner, because someone else there WAS celebrating a birthday, and they got drumming and also were sung to, neither of which I wanted, LOL... though their ice cream sundae looked nice.) Last night, my boyfriend and I made the decision to go to a Hibachi restaurant because we were craving Hibachi food, so we went to this restaurant. There were two individuals who were hosting or hosting. I informed them that we are deaf and unable to hear at all. I caused the young white/Mexican lady with black hair to laugh so hard when I told her we were deaf. It's very disrespectful for her to laugh so loudly in front of me and my boyfriend. It is important for her to develop the skills of being polite and respectful towards people with disabilities. It doesn't feel comfortable for me to be there. I used to go there all the time and I had a love for their food and sushi until now. It's a major disappointment for me to hear that they'll laugh when you're disabled. We sat down and a waitress immediately asked what we wanted to drink even though we hadn't had a chance to look at the menus yet. We quickly chose drinks and they came out very fast. The waitress was very attentive but when we asked for suggestions, she didn't really have any. We decided to share some sushi rolls and some entrees. We got a spicy tuna crunch roll and a spicy scallop baked roll. Both were really good but everyone preferred the spicy tuna. I got the vegetable udon which came with 3 huge pieces of tempura vegetables (onion ring, sweet potato and green pepper) on top and mushrooms and seaweed in the soup along with the noodles. I thought it was absolutely delicious. My mom and boyfriend split a bento box with teriyaki beef, shrimp tempura and ebi shumai (basically shrimp dumpling). Everything was super tasty! I chose 4 stars instead of 5 just because I wasn't super blown away by the food. The service was great although the waitress could've given us more time to decide and more suggestions. Went for mother's day after Kyoto's was booked out. Was able to get a seat fairly quick. Compared to other hibachi grills, this one seems to be the least flexible in their menu. The chef did not seem to want to be there, and was rushing the food and overcooked my family's food. Even the noodles were burnt, chicken and shrimp dry, and veggies were charred. He was not generous at all with teriyaki and garlic butter. Took a while to get a refill on a glass of water. Restaurant was giving out roses to mothers, and everyone seemingly got one except for my own mother. All in all, I won't be coming back or recommending this location. Few things to say about this establishment... right off the bat the service rubbed us the wrong way. We had a reservation of ten for our friends birthday - five of us arrived 2 minutes early, but were told we had to wait for the entire group to be there in order to be seated (mind you there was only one other table sat, it was a Tuesday evening). The wait staff was slow to get everything done (especially our checks). The hibachi chef was very kind but there was little entertainment - we go to hibachi for the entertainment right?? If it was just for the food we could sit else where!! It was our friends birthday and they didn't do any saki, vegetable toss, or their version of singing happy birthday. Oh and on the topic of food, I got home and realized my chicken was raw (see photo). This was after I returned home and checked out my left overs. I was craving Hibachi, and my usual place I go to is still not open for dine-in that is right by my house. Getting take out hibachi is kind of awful, so it forced me to find someplace new my new go-to. I found this place that was only about a mile farther. I was a little worried in the beginning because my waitress seemed to be very overwhelmed. Then I found out that they were short-staffed. So I get it we are in this weird time. I need to point out that I didn't sit at the hibachi table. Tho I love the show but trying to social distance. My food started coming out, and I have to say it was delicious.
