I am Japanese so I am picky about Japanese restaurants. We went during the week to try the lunch specials. The environment is great for an Asian restaurant. It is clean and light. I didn't feel uncomfortable touching the chairs and table surfaces. I love bento boxes, they are very Japanese! We first got water and barley tea, and then a dish of vinegar cucumber. Then we got a miso soup. Then our lunch combos came. I got the salmon bento box. It comes with a fried gyoza, shrimp tempura, a zucchini and sweet potato tempura, fried rice, salad, and a few Cali rolls. The salmon had a sweet teriyaki glaze on top. For not being Japanese owned, they did a great job providing a pretty genuine experience. It's all about a bunch of little things to try. read more

I am a sushi fanatic and I do give it 5 stars especially for being a Michigan sushi joint. we got there around 5 on a Thursday and we're the only ones there which was not surprising since it was pretty early for dinner. we took our time and by the time we ate all 6 of our rolls (for 2 people) the place was pretty full. service was very good and everyone was so nice. the restaurant was clean and well kept. now, let's get to the sushi. it was VERY GOOD. everything was fresh and there wasn't a roll I didn't love. I tend to like to order more cooked rolls with some raw stuff than all raw when I have sushi in Michigan. there wasn't one that tasted fishy. very flavorful, good size and well rolled. we ordered the spicy california, volcano roll, atlantic roll, crunchy shrimp tempura roll, oishii roll, and giant spicy roll! I would highly recommend all of these!! the giant spicy roll has salmon that is coated with a spicy siracha like sauce that is SO GOOD!! especially if you like a little kick! very good experience and I will be returning. read more

Excellent service and the food is fantastic! I've had sushi here a few times and a few bento boxes. The quality of the food is very good and it's a great value, especially the bento boxes. I almost think there's too much food for what you pay for. Everything has always felt and tasted very fresh, and the interior is very clean and welcoming. There's always a bunch of people dining in as I'm carrying out, so I've taken that as a good sign. The staff has always been enthusiastic, welcoming and friendly. I thought this place was very good with fair prices! Got a carryout for myself and a coworker. I ordered the chicken teriyaki bento box and a spicy tuna roll. All the sushi was excellent. Loved the gyoza - wish there would have been more than one piece. That was kind of a tease! The tempura was very good and they were large pieces of shrimp and vegetables. The fried rice was a little different than most I've had but I thought it was very flavorful. Teriyaki was good. The miso soup and ginger salad were delicious as well. Probably one of the best places for sushi I have been to in years! Prices are quite reasonable and the food is tasty. Considering they have just opened recently, the staff and chef are on the ball. Super friendly, courteous, and welcoming. The restaurant is a good size place. It's clean, nicely decorated and a good atmosphere. Reminiscent of a nice small restaurant in Japan or Korea but in Troy. They have enough tables for decent size groups but I would consider calling ahead in case you have more than 6 people in your party especially during lunch rush. The menu has a good selection of Japanese and Korean dishes. Enough to satisfy certain cravings you may have. I've had the Kalbi bento box at lunch, the Chef's Special and sushi lunch combo and the Katsu dinner, within the first two weeks they have been opened, and all were tasty. Portions are generous, especially the bento box lunches. I brought some friends with me at lunch and they all thought it was a lot of food. The chef's skills really shine through in the sushi. Craftsmanship and preparation were top notch. The fish and rice were always nice, fresh and very tasty. The chef has been kind enough to let us try some samples of off-menu sushi creations he's made and they were all amazing! I kinda wish they had them on the menu. Will definitely be going here a lot. A cozy Korean family-owned Japanese/Korean restaurant. Came here on a Thursday evening and sat at the sushi bar. Upon the chef recommendations I ordered the Lion King roll, S&T roll, amaebi, sea bream and yellow tail nigiri. For the price that you pay here, it is a steal. You get a really nice portion of fish, not filled with (BS) rice and great quality of fish. Not only that, you get a refreshing cucumber salad and miso soup for appetizer, and you get a free hot tea with your meal! About the rolls: if salmon is your thing, I highly recommend the S&T roll and if you like fried soft shell crab and eel then you'd love the Lion King roll. The Lion King roll is one of their pricier roll ($14.95) but it is huge, filled with meat, not rice so it's totally worth it! Their nigiri is delicious and fresh, these guys turned me on to sea bream now. The yellow tail and amaebi were good and the fried shrimp head from amaebi was done perfectly. I'll be back! read more

Our takeout order was truly excellent! The two sashimi platters we had were beautiful and extremely fresh. We also really enjoyed the broad selection of rolls. Favorites included the Las Vegas roll and the spicy scallop roll. The pricing is fair, better than most sushi places around here that we've tried, and the pickup was seamless, quick, and socially-distanced. The one thing that we wished would be added to their grubhub ordering system was just a simple side of steamed rice. By the time we had input everything into the order, we realized they didn't have one on the menu. We will certainly be back soon for some more delicious sushi! read more

We've been going to kazoku for couple of years now and its awesome. We are a big family and my little kids started liking sushi in this place. Rolls were not presented well, but that is likely because box was smashed. The sushi here is legit! I get the veggie sushi and normally resign myself to the same tired roll of avocado, cucumber and rice. The veggie sushi here transcends any other sushi roll I've ever had. I can't describe it exactly because there were different choices but I identified kale and veggies in one roll and a different type of lettuce and asparagus in another. We tried the yellow tail, salmon, and tuna nigiri.. in my opinion, this was the best nigiri I've tasted compared to other restraunts. The texture of the raw fish smoothly breaks apart in your mouth and achieves fine consistency. I really loved the hand roll options they have on the menu. Their Philadelphia hand roll was really good, you have to eat it right away so that the sea weed still maintains its texture. I'm from LA and I've been here for 2 weeks and from my experience having other sushi from different sushi bars here in Michigan weren't that great. This is probably one of the most authentic sushi places here that's actually fresh and that aren't wrapped in lettuce or made with cream cheese. Very good rolls and very good service. Tempura apps and edamame were both good, though thought the miso soup was just fair. You make your sushi on a large card and they bring out on platter to take from. Sushi was fresh and good overall (though I wouldn't go quite as far on it being totally amazing as some other reviews have mentioned). Wouldn't hesitate to go back for any reason though.
