We tried going to a couple of other places for dinner but the wait was about an hour and a half. We ended up here and we were all so happy with the decision! I had not been here since they changed to KC Thai and the place looks so nice! They did a great job with the renovation, it looks so different. We were a bit sad to hear that Mai Thai was closing and weren't sure what to expect from KC Thai, but almost everything we ordered was perfect! My favorites were the pork belly gaprow and seafood lard nah! The pork belly was perfectly crispy and tasted amazing! There aren't too many places around here that make lard nah well and they do a great job and it really hit the spot. My kids really liked the pineapple fried rice and phad see eaw. My youngest is really starting to like spicy food and really liked the pork belly as well. The only thing that would have made the meal perfect is if they used fresh rice noodles and had a spicy sauce tray with pickled peppers, but I think it is probably due to covid. We also ordered some crab rangoon, crispy spicy wings, tom yum and boat noodles. I didn't have high expectations for the crab rangoon since it says they don't have crabmeat but it was seasoned pretty well. Definitely overpriced for what you get and would probably order something else next time. I don't think I will ever understand why Thai restaurants charge so much these. We ordered tom yum for my niece but no one was a fan. It had a strong galangal flavor, but I think it we would have ordered it spicy it would have tasted better. Overall, our experience was great. Service was nice, friendly and they were very attentive. I cannot wait to go back and try other dishes! read more

Definitely a new fave spot! It's hard to find- my GPS was super confused, but I'm glad I kept looking. From the outside it's kinda blah and nondescript, but the inside was so charming. It was spotlessly clean and all of the staff couldn't have been nicer. We both loved our meals- yellow curry with shrimp, although the mild was super mild- I'll do medium next time; and pineapple fried rice with chicken. It needed some oomph and the staff happily brought out more pineapple and some sweet & sour sauce made with pineapple juice. So nice! I'm not often in this part of town, but when I am I will for sure visit again. read more

We wandered to south Overland Park today because a friend recommended this nice little Thai restaurant at 135th and Quivira that just opened a couple of months ago. We're glad we made the drive. It was a little after 1:00 when we walked in, so the lunch rush was over and we had our choice of tables. We were immediately struck by the contemporary decor and friendliness of the staff. We ordered spring rolls and chicken pad thai--everything was excellent. The tab came to just under thirty bucks, plus tip. We'll go back! Just wish it was a little closer to home. read more

KC Thai did not disappoint. I had a chance to try out their menu and I probably went overboard LOL. Everything on the menu sounds great and I love Thai food especially authentic Thai food. I tried the Phad See Eaw, crispy spicy wings, pineapple fried rice, Thai house wings, crab rangoons, and crispy egg rolls. Where do I even start. The flavor alone for each meal was so good. What I liked most is that you can customize some of the dishes, so you're able to choose your protein, and level of spice. I have a high tolerance for spicy food, so I usually do medium or hot and OMG it just adds so much to the meal. You can't go wrong with whatever you choose here, but I highly recommend the Phad See Eaw. It's probably a house favorite and I can understand why. The eggs rolls and chicken were fried lightly and had the perfect crisp with every bite. Everything I ordered, I liked! I also enjoy the ambiance of this restaurant. Went here for the first time with my groups of friends a few weeks ago. I ordered their Calamari and Pad Thai at level 2 spiceyness. My friends ordered their Penny's Ragoon, spring rolls, crab fried rice and their stir fry . EVERYTHING was absolutely delicious. Their Penny's ragoon is to die for. The Pad Thai was addicting and the spice level is perfect, kept you wanting to go back for more. 100/10 must try ! read more

We stopped by for a late lunch today. We came in an there were 2 employees near the front door. The young lady in grey sweat told us to sit anywhere. They were not busy and yet we had to wait about 2 minutes for menus. The young lady asked me if I wanted anything to drink then walked away without asking my husband what he wanted, so we both drank water. She came back and took our order and asked how spicy we Wanted it. She began to interject options before we had a chance to answer. She brought out our appetizer which was chicken satay Not was pretty good. Then a huge annoying pet peeve happened and they brought out lunch out before a few minutes later. We barely finished one piece of chicken. I had the beef mint salad that was supposed to have mixed greens. There was huge pieces of iceberg lettuce and only iceberg lettuce with a tiny bit of cilantro. My husband had the Penang chicken ( medium) and it was bland as hell. No one came to check on us until are meals were done. # learn how to serve appetizers # check on your customers # flavor your food # actually uses mixed greens on your salads and use bite sized pieces # don't use mealy tomatoes on your salad #let your customers speak, don't rush them. read more

Had a fabulous lunch with one of my favorite people today! This place was definitely on my "Treat Yourself" list! We had amazing service from Prai and Sun (both pictured). The food was phenomenal, the Thai iced coffee and Crème Brûlée cheesecake, DIVINE!! This more like a 3.7 to 3.8 than a true 4 star but because compared to other places around in a 5 mile radius I think I can safely give it 4 stars. I had this twice and first time we got take out and it was just OK I think my coworker also didn't really know how to order so it was just kind of average. 2nd time we took some clients over for lunch to fine in and it was almost like a whole different restaurant. I have struggled for years to find a Thai restaurant in a Johnson county that I love. My favorite place is in the Northland and after moving out here 10 years ago I have struggled to find a Thai restaurant that compares. A while back I decided to try KC Thai and I'm so glad I did! The place is adorable to start with! The decor is so beautiful and clean! I brought my mom yesterday and she said they had the cleanest and nicest bathroom she's seen at a restaurant. The food?..... omg The homemade sausage is amazing! Their pad Thai, Tom ka, and Thai tea are perfect! The spice sauces that they bring to the table are all sooooo good! My boyfriend doesn't typically like Thai food but I made him come along once and he ordered the sausage appetizer and a basil fried rice and he loved it! I wish this place was closer to me because I would go all the time! I checked this place out for dinner last week and it was so yummy! We ordered a bunch of food and split everything and I can promise you won't leave hungry. We started with the dumplings, rangoon, and chicken satay. Each of them came with different sauces that were really good (hint: save the sauces for when your entrees come out because you will want them). For dinner, we split the pineapple fried rice and the drunken noodles. We had so much food we both were able to take to-go boxes. The leftovers made for delicious lunches the next day. I also got a Thai iced tea with my dinner which was a sweet creamy tea that went really well with all the spices in the dishes we ordered. My son & I went there last night after one of my coworkers recommended it. It's clean, the staff are super friendly & the food is amazing! We had the wings for an app, seafood curry, chicken pad Thai & iced Thai coffee. Recommend it all! (Same owners as Bamboo Pennys in Leawood, by the way). I personally felt that the dumplings were hard and dry, yellow curry fried rice was 3 out of 5 and basil fried rice and red curry was delicious. We ordered takeout a few times during the past year, and sat inside to eat for the first time recently. Surprisingly nice interior and great service! We always enjoy the food, the pad Thai and drunken noodle are great, and spice levels on the menu are fairly accurate to our taste. KC Thai is a hidden gem in southern Johnson County. Nestled in a strip mall at the intersection of 135th & Switzer, it's easily missed, but worth a trip from anywhere in the metro area. This is one of the Thai restaurants owned by Penny Mufuka who also owns Bamboo Penny's at Park Place (Nall & 116th St) as well as one other Thai restaurant whose name escapes me. KC Thai is fairly quiet and unassuming on the inside - casual dress is appropriate and it would be safe to say that you do not need reservations. The interior is sparkling clean with very friendly staff and fabulous food. They appear to do a huge carry out business too. I have dined there several times and have never had a bad dish! I highly recommend the Spring Rolls and the Crab Rangoon. I'm a personal fan of the Panang Curry with chicken. Do not miss the Sweet Sticky Rice Mango for dessert! The first time this dessert was recommended, I turned my nose up, but I literally crave it! SO good! read more
