Great place for Chinese food. The dumplings were large, plumb, and well made. The ginger basil chicken reminded me of my mom's braised chicken. It was well seasoned and very tender. I would come back just for that dish. The service was prompt and responsive. I will definitely be coming back to try out more dishes!

Service was great and the stuff is very attentive. The noodles are chewy and the food definitely has a lot of flavor, if a bit salty. The pork dumplings were juicy but the pork itself was chewier than I would normally like. I would say the food is tasty and the servings are large, but I would try other items next time. The food is not a very authentic Chinese flavor but good nonetheless!

Blue Koi has set the bar high!!! The Matcha-Cha-Cha has to be one of my favorite drinks in the Kansas City area. I seriously crave it. Our waitress recommended the Almond Asparagus dish, and I enjoyed it. But for me, the highlights were the Firebird and the Ants on a Tree. Both absolutely incredible dishes that never fail to take me to Flavortown. And I will add that they complement each other very well with the spiciness of the Firebird and the slight sweetness of the Ants on a Tree. Yum. Yum. Yum.

We ate again at the Blue Koi and it did not disappoint. This time I talked with our server and I decided to try the black bean sauce with shrimp. I almost didn't because I will love their soft noodles, but I am so glad. You need to look at the picture. I took it of this dish. Of course you can't see the flavor but there was plenty. What you can't see is the gorgeous shrimp and plenty of them . I now crave this dish. So good. Another new thing we tried was the eggplant pockets. Surprisingly delicious.

This is nice looking outside and nothing fancy inside. But, the food is top notch and some of the best flavors around. The place is super clean inside with excellent service. We had Shelby, and she was so AMAZING! She took the extra time to acquaint us with the menu and how to order since we never been. Plus, she made sure we were always doing good and even packed up our to gos. She was fantastic. The food is so fresh, I got their Fire bird Duck Dish and it was 10/10! Their Spicy Chili Wontons were also the star of the show and just bursting with flavor. Their bowls are huge and can definitely be shared if you wanted to get a starter and then share a bowl. Gotta try this original.

Looking for a quick appetizer to munch on and saw this place with variety of dumplings and noodles. My bf and I decided to try since we don't live in the area. They have alot of cool deco inside. Alot of KC Chief painting on the wall. The hostess was fast to greet. They wasn't busy during that time so we got a table quickly. The server was very nice. We just wanted some dumplings, so I ordered a spicy pork dumpling. It came out like in 15min. Nice fresh and hot. It's a little different tasting than the chili wonton I gotten at other restaurants. It was good. Maybe come back try the other food they have when we back in town.

As always, we had a very good meal. Being in our early to mid 70's, we don't eat as much as we used to. We had the Special, which was Spicy Buns, and the combination fried dumplings. The Spicy Buns was loaded with Shrimp and Chinese veggies. They served us shrimp fried dumplings and, to correct the order, the combination fried dumplings as well. We had Mango Martinis and, for dessert, Toasted Almond Martinis. Everything was delicious; and the weather was perfect for dining al fresco. We love this place!

I've followed them from their place off of 39th, to this completely out of my way location, albeit not as often, but they are still my favorite of all favorites! Ended my 2024 here in the evening with one waiter manning the entire restaurant. It was busy and with slow service, but nothing to be held against him. He was super nice and did a great job. Ordered our usuals, Almond Joy Bubbles, blended, with Kahlua. Fried Combo Dumplings and Fried Veggie Dumplings. And Fire Bird all around (duck, chicken and tofu). Along with Ants on a Log, Pot Roast, etc. you get the picture. We love it here! Fantastic, no matter what you order. The portions are generous, which means yummy leftovers. The restaurant is quaint with a friendly warmth. Perfect way to end the year. I'm sure we'll see you soon in the new year also.

We were greeted as soon as we walked in the door by the sweet hostess. The inside looks very spacious and clean. We got there early around 5:00pm for dinner because we heard they get busy fast! We ordered a few dishes to share. We started off with lettuce wrap and chili wonton to share. Both got great flavors. The wonton was big and stuff with a lot of meat. The chili sauce complimentary it really well. We decided to share wonton noodle soup. And our server was so nice to split it into two bowls for us. Broth was perfect. And noodles were perfectly cooked. The portion was huge! Glad we decided to split it. The waiter was very friendly. I didn't get his name. But he was very attentive. We will be back.

I have been many times over the years and I can never stop getting the noodle soup because it's such a massive portion I can save for leftovers. I love the home crafted noodles that are hard to find elsewhere. The dumplings are also large and perfectly crafted. Having so many cocktail options around $10 is also rare at good restaurants these days. The service is always great with easy parking outside.

    Chinese Style Pot Roast

My husband and I have been loyal visitors of Blue Koi for years, and it's consistently our favorite spot, especially for their Chinese pot roast. We've enjoyed it both with noodles and in noodle soup, and it's always flavorful and comforting. We've also tried their stir fry chicken dishes, chili wontons, and various dumplings--all equally delicious. The calm, welcoming ambiance and excellent service make every visit enjoyable. We discovered this gem through the Triple D show, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves Chinese food, especially for the pork shoulder pot roast.

I ordered one of their signature drinks, a fresh berry mule which absolutely delicious. The fruit compote is made in house with seasonal fruit and this was the best mule I've tasted hands down. My husband ordered his usual double Captain and diet, which he felt to be on the weaker side. We both ordered the chicken gumbo: it arrived in a small crock and was delicious! Great mix of ingredients and impressed that it was made with chicken andouille and not the traditional pork . The accompanying baguette was perfectly toasted and the perfect hot temperature; I didn't use the butter at all. A bit pricey but expected as this is a hotel bar/restaurant.

Make reservations because they had a two hour wait for walk-ins. For appetizers we shared their burnt ends. Tender and sauced perfectly. For dinner we shared a wedge salad, their mashed potatoes, asparagus (a must!), and their tomahawk steak! Instead of doing three separate steaks we did the one and it was a perfect size for all of us to share! The steak was tender and well seasoned, mashed potatoes creamy, and the asparagus was prepared in a way we hadn't had before - highly recommend! We also had their dessert lemon meringue pie and coconut cream pie! Really really good! Wine options: amazing! Bourbon options: classy! We couldn't give it five stars for two main reason: 1. We made a reservation for 7pm, arrived and check in at 6:50 and still had to wait just over 30 minutes to be seated. We learned that walk-ins had been seated ahead of us so we needed to wait for some tables to leave before we could be seated. This was a bit surprising. We understand waiting a few minutes, but 30 min is not okay. 2. The sweet server assisting us for dinner was in training and we learned from her "trainer" that she wouldn't be getting any of the tips from our dinner. Additionally, the "trainer" came over around 830 to tell us that although it was only three of us that gratuity is automatically included. Very odd that we were told these things during our meal. The server being trained should absolutely get a portion of the tips - we hope restaurant management reconsiders their policy on this especially since we hardly saw her "trainer". We normally tip over the 20% but because the trainer didn't get any of our tips, we opted to not increase the tip that was automatically charged to us. All in all really classy restaurant and food was delicious! We'll be back for sure!

The space was nice and clean, but unfortunately, the service and the "famous" main course didn't quite deliver a stellar performance. Our table was split--some wanted dinner, some wanted dessert. This apparently threw our waiter into a state of deep existential confusion. The Food: I ordered their "famous" fried chicken, customizing it to three thighs (which came with homemade pickles and a fantastic ham gravy). For $24, it wasn't bad, but it's definitely not "famous" for flavor--maybe just famous for the price tag. Honestly, I could have filled up at Popeyes for a fraction of the cost. Surprisingly, the absolute star of my meal was the side of sautéed mushrooms. It came with little pearl onions, shallots, and green peas. I topped it with some of my friend's arugula to make it fancy, and it was delicious. The Service (or lack thereof): Here's where it went downhill. The dessert order became a saga. Those who ordered sweets expected them to arrive with the mains, but we had to ask several times just to get them toward the end of the meal. By the end, our waiter seemed completely frustrated with our existence. He aggressively boxed up the remaining desserts and semi-forcefully shoved the credit card machine into our faces to shuffle us out the door. Great mushrooms, aggressive math at the end. Proceed with caution.
