Relatives and I and sometimes myself come to this particular bakery. Items here tend to be a bit cheaper because it is slightly out of the way from the central part of Chinatown closer to Market St. Not everyone who isn't somewhat local or who hasn't visited Philadelphia might elect to venture this far up. Custard pies, especially if you get them or order them ahead of time- Yum! I like their BBQ Pork buns and they come out better than the pork buns, which I think are okay. I don't think there's anything wrong with the BBQ buns being fatty- it seems appropriate though I don't like to use that word like another reviewer has. Custard pies used to be so hard to get that they'd sell out a few hours after the morning began, then they might make more at a random time and sell out again, that they were so hard to get. If you want to guarantee that you get something, call/reserve the day or so before and ask for at least a dozen. Pineapple buns are good too. They came out with Taro bread recently I think and it's on-point. They have one more flavor, and I think it's raisin, but not sure. When they had raisin bread before, it was good and I'd always get a batch for a relative. Since they stopped selling raisin bread because demand wasn't high enough, I stopped trying to get it. They did a special favor for me one time when I asked if they had it and didn't realize they stopped it permanently and specially made it because relatives of mine have ordered a lot from this bakery before. I also like the bacon and scallion pastry just because it's salty and I like its flavor and don't necessarily want every single thing as sweet. They have hotdog items which I'm sure are good, but I have a tendency to avoid hot dogs ever since I was shown disgusting "sciency" videos. I'll still eat them, but it won't be my first choice. Their cake rolls are excellent too. Eating items from here, I feel the difference between this and, say, getting bakery goods from a supermarket. Their triangular rice pyramids are decent- I wish they'd add more ingredients like quality Asian sausage and hard boiled egg, but it's the standard peanuts, some type of meat I think or maybe without the meat, and sticky rice only. If you order a ton, like $50+, you're likely to get a free bun(s). Most/all bakeries tend to do that- especially if you're paying with cash. Most places take cash only. As for the reviewer who couldn't get a box, if she didn't wear a mask, that could've scared the workers and maybe that's why the reaction. I wonder if there is a translation and/or a lack of a sense of tone and expression as English is definitely not the workers' native language. Every store or bakery in the area that I've run into, I've never had quality Asian sausage. It's just okay. I'd be willing to pay more for a quality product and some places probably have the bandwidth to do so. read more

I love Chinese bakeries because I grew up with them. I have been dying to eat some ham and corn bao and can never find a bakery that makes them. They are getting harder to find when I visit my family back in California. Since moving to Philly, I was pleasantly surprised to see how available they are in so many of the bakeries! The breads and pastries here are cheap and delicious. You can walk out with a giant bag of bread for less than $10. I've tried the ham and corn bun (almost as good as the ones I grew up eating), hot dog bun, and their bbq pork puff pastry. All were delicious, especially the bbq pork pastry since it just came out of the oven. It was super fresh and still pipping hot. I will continue to support this local establishment. Cash Only. This place has the BEST milk tea (hot/cold). I would probably have skipped this place if it wasn't recommended by a friend. The taste is unique and very rich. The buns are also delicious! Fellow yelpers, I will begin my review with this: Today, 3/9/19, my friends and I did "The Egg Tart Challenge". This was Bakery stop #4 of 7. This bakery was very big with a lot of seats. Although there were no other patrons inside, the ambiance was complete with lively music! And several people came inside to pick up their custom cakes! Happy Birthday Sue (your cake looked awesome)! Regarding the main event- the Egg Tart ($1.00). This egg tart was veryy veryy egg-y. You could taste hard boiled eggs over the sugar and vanilla. I personally didn't like this taste in a desert. But there was a big difference between this tart and all of the others on this challenge. In am attempt to counteract the blood sugar high, we got a few protein dishes. The Chicken Sticky rice was served warm and we loved it! Great flavors and a better ratio of chicken to sticky rice. Still alot of rice, but the chicken was tender and flavorful. Also, we got a Roast Pork Pie. Again, the carb to protein ratio was off. But the barbecue pork was really really good! I had a few chewy pieces of meat but I really loved this pastry!!! i gave this bakery a try since my beloved Mong Kok Station closed permanently. Being from NJ, I forgot Philly's ban on plastic bag and forgot to bring one. OMG, the old lady had a fit and when I asked her if she can give a paper box if I buy a lot, she yelled out "NO, NOTHING". I left and went to St. Honore and they had no problem giving me a paper box used for the cakes. Skip this bakery. The selection is very, very limited and the management is RUDE. There are so many other bakeries in Chinatown that offers a bigger selection and treats the customers better. read more

In a tiny nestled away shop on the edge of Chinatown there's this hidden gem filled with delicious goodies.. These buns are by far my favorite in all of Chinatown Philly! The shop opens early on weekdays making it the perfect stop for a quick breakfast treat. The buns are baked fresh daily, and when they're gone -- that's it for the day. They have a wide range of selection from your pork bun, hot dog bun, chicken pie, egg tarts, milk buns, AND my FAVORITE the pineapple bun (and pineapple custard bun). The best part?! THE BUNS ARE ONLY $1 each. I usually come in and pick out a few buns and a drink, and I leave more than satisfied. The drinks are also relative cheap compared to the bubble tea shops in town. The milk tea here is delicious (iced or hot) and only is a dollar or two! If you're planning on going to Chinatown for a quick bite -- I highly recommend checking out this small bake shop. I love this little place. It's all the way at the end of 10th street, and nothing fancy. But the women behind the counter are always smiling and helpful; and they sell the most delicious moon cakes. I first tried these desserts in Shanghai, and literally spent years trying to find them again here in the states. Was so happy to come across this bakery. on a hunt for the best hong kong milk tea, my friends and i were honestly tricked by this bakery. we saw them making the milk teas with the traditional "stocking," which if you arent familiar with hong kong milk teas, its how the tea is brewed for the strong authentic flavor mixed in with evaporated milk and sugar. so seeing the stocking, we assumed it would be better than average. upon seeing her make it, i started getting disappointed after seeing her fill about 1/5th of the cup with tea and the rest with half and half. it would have been pretty tasty if i was asking for a simple cup of milk tea, but it was rather upsetting because i expected a hong kong milk tea. read more
