I was in Midland and was told to check this place out by some locals. I think it is an old gas station that is now a great BBQ location. The eating area inside is very unique and works perfectly for the location. The food was pretty good. You pay by the pound and can select the various meats you want. I had some pork ribs, beef brisket, pulled pork, and hot links. The beef brisket was the best of the meats. You can also get the basic "BBQ" sides. I had beans, which were not really that good and actually were cold. If you are going to take the food to go, make sure you get lots of bread and extra BBQ sauce. This place has some solid BBQ. You walk in, grab a tray with wax paper, and select all of the different meats that suit you. At the end, they simply weigh the meat and charge you a fixed price per lb (which is a little on the pricey side). Despite the price: -I think the BBQ was great. I had a selection of ribs, chopped beef, brisket, and sausage (way too much food). From best to worst: sausage, brisket, chopped beef, ribs -They have many (free) fixings to choose from (multiple types of BBQ sauce, pickles, onions, jalapeños, etc.) -Great atmosphere, friendly staff If you're keen to BBQ, I'd recommend giving this place a try. Good barbecue joint, worth a stop. You take your pick from a carving station-style setup, and between all the choices, it was hard to go wrong. It was a little more expensive than I expected, but that's my own fault: I couldn't really say "no" to anything and took more food than I'd get if I ordered a plate of ribs somewhere. I've totally missed something I guess. I like the place, the menu, layout. It's cool. I didn't like the food very much. It's not cheap either. I had some pork ribs and sausage. The sausage was good but the ribs lacked for me. They were tender enough but the flavor was missing for me. I saw a smoke ring but didn't taste smoke. They give them a black pepper rub which didn't really marry well with pork. It probably works with the brisket which I didn't try. I hated the regular sauce as well as the vinegar sauce. I can't really describe them. I tried both repeatedly. The slaw was ok, average. The cowboy beans were the best thing I had. They charged me $1.50 extra for the slaw but the beans are free at the bean bar? It was a tiny cup of slaw. It was hard to figure what you were paying for. I didn't finish my dinner. I would give this place 2.5 stars if you could give half stars. There was a lot on the meat buffet I would definitely not order. The pork loin looked dusty dry as did the chicken. Too much just sitting around in pans. Maybe it's the brisket. If this place was in Ohio or something I could give it 3 stars but it's in Texas and I've had better barbecue in dozens and dozens of places. Maybe Midland is a food dessert. read more

This is by far the best BBQ in Texas. There was a place in Sundown TX that was a close runner up, but this is better. The ambiance is awesome. The owners are spot on nice with the most genuine hospitality around. When you walk in there, grab a tray, and somebody will open up the pit, and fill your tray up with savory tender meat. KD's the food is good, I would not call it great or outstanding. You pay by the pound so you can get as much or as little as you want. I do like there BBQ sauces, which they have several, from mild to hot enough for you. KD's has the usual assortment of sides all which are good. I usually go to KD's a couple of times a year, probably would go more if it was closer to down town. The wife is not much of a fan so it is way down her list of places to eat at. read more

Maybe I got a bad batch but non of the meat tasted THAT great. Everything was either mediocre or kinda stale. The brisket was good. But the ribs were bad. Dry and too peppery. The worse part for me was that the guy said it's everything for 13.95 so I started asking him to put on all the meats so I can try it. You choose the different meats you want, they get weighted and you pay by the pound, about $17+ with a min of $8+. I tried the juicy brisket, regular ribs, the jalapeño cheese sausage and the potato salad. My overall impression on the meats is that they lacked flavor, they weren't bad but didn't have much taste. The brisket was extremely fatty and they were all out of side orders of corn and potatoes. The chopped brisket tasted old. The beer was very good and cold. What a great experience! Some friends and I were on military orders on our summer AT, and Kathy really took care of us. The service was great and the food was exceptional! The staff was some of the friendliest I have encountered in some time. The ribs were about the best I have had in Texas. The brisket was moist and tender, and was perfect with or without the fantastic sauces, of which there were at least four. Don't go in the exit door. The line starts at the side door. The lunch was crowded, and the wait in line was about 8 mins. I went for brisket and a couple of ribs. smoked jalapeno as well. rib was good, sweet, regular, and vinegar bbq sauces available. I wish there had been a 'hot'. The brisket was so divine. Yelp pointed me right this time. Lots of authentic west Texas signage everywhere to look at inside. Terrible, terrible customer service and policies. I've been here twice - once as a walk in and then again as a pre-paid pre set menu customer as part of a vendors appreciation lunch. You wouldn't believe the difference. First time round, they piled the tray up with way to much food - you pay by the pound you see, so they get all angry and annoyed when you start asking them to take back half the ribs etc because it is way too much. Enter the second option - pre set menu where you get two meats and a side. This time round, I got a single rib and two small slices of sausage totaling a pathetic amount of food ( this was apparently now two servings of meat). These policies are offensive and the attitude of the server is a disgrace. Avoid the pre-set option at all costs, at a minimum, because they do all they can to rip you off. read more

We live in Odessa so a place has to be pretty good for us to make a trip of almost 30 mintues to eat there. We have been here about 4 times in the past two months, the first time it was amazing. The brisket was ok to me but I loved the pulled bbq pork and hot sausage. the next visit the food was the same, but the third trip we noticed the quality changed some. Sadly with our last trip on 11/1/14 it went down hill. I noticed the usual guy we met was no longer there. My husband got 3 slices of brisket at $13, i had pulled brisket, chicken and sausage( doing my usual small portions to ensure a low price) for about $9. My pulled brisket in bbq sauce was good, bit dry tasting. the chicken was dry, and the sausage was off for some reason. The potato salad tasted a little hotter than normal. the sweet tea tasted like it didnt have any sugar to it. My husband said the brisket he got was dry so i suggested adding bbq sauce to it. it didnt help one bit. He offered me a pieced and i spit it out immediately. it was so dry and tasted like fish, i noticed it was over cooked. He was wanting to leave but paying $13 for THAT i wasnt going to let it go. I wanted to talk to a manager but apparently the lady wanted to avoid that. She had the guy at the pit open the new brisket and allowed my husband to try it. the meat was juicy. She gave him 3 slices to go. I thought this was very generous( the guy who weighs the food was not pleased at all since it was free). When we got home later and i reheated the brisket we found out the bark on the outside of the brisket tasted like gas. We refuse to head back there again. It looks to be run by people who are not from this country. I have learned over time that when they take over a place the quality of food and service go down hill fast. We will miss this place, food WAS good until now. Bring back the old cook, stop using gas to start your fires. read more

Yum Yum Yum Okay it's a little awkward to walk right into where they are cutting meat, but hey why not put your best foot forward as they say. The BBQ is laid out for the picking and at the time we paid $16.75 per pound and it doesn't matter what meats you choose. Grab a tray - put meat on it :) My family and I stopped in on our way home to San Diego 4/2/15 and loved the pork ribs and brisket! We didn't mess with sides or cobbler - just the meat and some sauce, pickles and bread. Oh wait - we did order corn on the cob. It was neither hot nor delicious - it had been sitting I suspect on the heating table for 2-3 hours too many that day. My suggestion on the corn on the cob - ask how long it's been sitting on the warming tray. It's busy because it is GOOD! Very GOOD! Not a five star for me because of all the use of Styrofoam. I love the USA and this planet - styrofoam is horrible. I hope they will consider dishes for dine in to make a big difference and big impact. read more
