Finally! An affordable salon in Chicago! I got my first haircut at KE Salon on Saturday with Petya and I am THRILLED. Nothing fancy was done, but she knew just how to layer and thin out my incredibly thick hair. I left the salon with the sleekest, shiniest, and SOFTEST cut I've had in a long time (at least from a studio this price!). Not only that, but usually I find that the thickness of my hair plus the fact that I like it straightened costs me a few extra bucks than the average price when I get to the register; not so at KE! I got a great cut for only $30. The cash only thing is a bummer (NO CARDS OR CHECKS! My stylist was Camila and she was very friendly and professional. We worked together to find a fresh new color and highlights that flatter my complexion more than my last color. She worked quickly and was pleasant while working. After the cut and blow-out, she took her time to style my hair with curls that lasted all night. The salon is small but well-decorated and clean. I have been going to Elena and Kemal for 6 years now. Back when my wife and I had just started dating. I got a haircut from Elena and my wife loved it. It was done - I've been going ever since. I've gotten my haircut by both Kemal and Elena and I really like how they know what will work with my weird head. Last year, I moved to Chicago from FL and began the arduous task of finding a new stylist. After months of "one-time" haircuts, and feeling MUCH unlike myself, I turned to yelp for help. KE Salon was highly rated and close to my new apartment, so I gave it a chance. The location was beautiful and well-maintained, but the proof for me, was in the cut! I randomly got placed with Kemal (one of the owners) and have never looked back... Kemal knows hair! His cut is always impeccable! He cross-checks and works meticulously on the perfect style! He is fast, though never seems rushed! Great place to get a haircut! As a guy, it is pretty easy to get stuck in between two extremes - either a $7 Supercuts hack job, or a $55 "haircut" that makes you question your sexuality while getting an unrequested facial and paraffin wax treatment. KE Salon gives you a nice, upscale experience where you are treated professionally. However, the stylists I have had are all super efficient and fast. They mean business, get your haircut how you want it, and get you the hell out of there. And you get that nice haircut for $20 - totally affordable for what you get. Count me a fan! read more

I am visiting from out of town, and spontaneously decided to get a haircut while my husband was busy for the day. Jamie was able to fit me in for a last minute appointment. I'm very indecisive when it comes to choosing my hair, and I wanted something fun, that wouldn't take a lot of work to style. Thanks Yelpers, for helping me find a great salon that is reasonably priced with great results! I made an appointment for a Wednesday evening. It seems that I didn't really need it, considering I just walked in, didn't get greeted/acknowledged and just had to wait when someone was available. Petya cut my hair. I came in for a trim to get rid of fried ends. I didn't want to take too much off. She listened to my needs and took her time. I was in the chair for at least an hour, which I didn't mind because she was making sure I got what I wanted. I didn't look like I had had a haircut when I'd left, which is exactly what I had hoped for. My hair actually looked longer, which was great! The atmosphere of the salon is decent. Clean facilities. They won't talk to you much; I'd have to agree with previous reviewers that it is a bit of a language barrier. You'll hear one of the annoying mix stations on. I observed that they had return clients in that evening that knew the stylists by name, so that put me at ease. My gut tells me I'd trust them with maintenance haircuts. I don't know if I'd have color done here - I didn't observe anyone getting color done. There's street parking in the surrounding area. And yes, bring cash for your services and gratuity - no credit cards here! read more

I moved to Chicago a few months ago and started the search for a new hair stylist. I'm pretty sure most women will agree with me that this can be a stressful experience, especially if you liked your old stylist as much as I did. Unfortunately I moved much too far away to keep going there so I started browsing Yelp for a new one (of course) :) I came to KE Salon because they did have so many good reviews and I have to say I have never left disappointed. Elena is a miracle worker on my hair!! I have super course hard to manage hair and I always leave with it looking shiny and amazing. My biggest compliment is her coloring ability though. I am always in getting highlights or root touch-ups and seriously the last time I was in I went shopping afterwards and a girl in the store actually said to me "your highlights are amazing, they look so natural". Yup I would agree! Also, considering what I was paying at my old Salon, I think their prices are very reasonable. I actually was paying more in the suburbs (although it was an Aveda Salon, and though I like Aveda I have found they tend to be pricier). They definitely get busy on Saturdays, which is when I usually go and have a healthy mix of Women, Men and Children clients so don't go there if you're real shy about people seeing your hair get done (I personally don't mind) and weekdays may be different, like I said I always go Saturdays. One note (and very small gripe) they are Cash Only as others have mentioned. Actually they also take checks. There's an ATM nearby if you do forget. read more

I received the best hair cut of my life yesterday! I can't stop admiring my hair in the mirror it looks Amaaaaazing. To put it in short words I have coarse more like cursed hair of 3 women combined on my head. They are long & thick literally no stylist in the past has given me a cut that wouldn't blend in with my thick hair and actually show but Elena gave me the ultimate cut last night. Even I was getting aggravated watching her cut my stubborn coarse hair but this woman had so much patience she kept working her scissors till perfection. Normally It would take me at least an hour or 2 to style my hair but last night I came home and styled my hair in less than 10 mins. I was charged $45 for a hair cut and quick blow dry which i think is very reasonable considering my hair situation. Elena takes the time to listen to you and than gives you exactly what you want. Nice people, good cut, great price, easy location!!!.... Where has KE Salon been all of my life!?! ....apparently, only a mile away from me for the last 5 years! I have had trouble with salons between the high prices, the good salons being a bit of a drive, trouble parking, or the stylists not being able to do a satisfactory job. I did have a regular stylist for a year, maybe longer, but then she moved to a new salon that was further and charged more. :( So, after a butchered (and I really mean butchered) bang job at another salon, I turned to my trusty yelper friends in tears. I saw that KE Salon was close and had 5 stars!!! Impossible, I thought. When I called to make an appointment I was pleasantly surprised I could get in the same day and they take walk-ins. I don't remember the name of the stylist I saw but she was VERY nice and did an excellent job on my cut an did her best to fix up my bangs so they could grow out. What's even better are the prices! Please note - they do not take card and no one told me that on the phone when I made my appointment. This is the one downside here and very strange - who doesn't take card now-a-days!? Kemal is the only person who knows how to cut my hair. Depending on the area of my head, my hair ranges from extremely thick to slightly balding, and from straight (top) to curly (sides). Combined with my strangely shaped head, it's no wonder why I have followed him from place to place. Anyways ,here, it's 25-35 for a cut and blow dry for women's hair. It cost me 35 cause my hair is long. Totally reasonable. Anyways. There was about a 10 minute wait ( had a appointment at 11, started around 11:10). My hairdresser ( no idea what her name is, but I know she was Romanian?) talked with me about what I wanted, made some suggestions, and by the end of it, the crow's nest that was my hair looked fantastic. I found this salon from a simple Google search because I recently moved to Montrose Ave. After seeing their reviews and the fact they are open on Monday, I made an appointment with no guidance from their salon manager who made my appointment -- just let her know exactly what I was looking for (blonde partial highlights and a cut.) Camila was my stylist and she is INCREDIBLE. I was going back to blonde after letting my hair go back to dark and she was so knowledgable of exactly what I wanted/needed. So talented, so sweet and I really cant say enough good things about her. Most importantly: the staff too was SO professional and truly fabulous. I was in desperate need of getting a new 'do and was ecstatic to find an affordable salon with great reviews on Yelp. Sadly, my excitement ends there. I got a pretty simple haircut, but it still lacks the volume and layers I wanted. I didn't realize it at the salon because it was blown out and curled, but now that I'm home I can see that the top layer is all one long length, where it should have been shorter around the crown and longer in the front. All the layers are at the bottom, and since they weren't textured/thinned out, they flip out (90s style) no matter how much I blow dry them in and flat iron the ends. Perhaps if I had seen Elena, I would've gotten the haircut I wanted, but for now all I can say is at least my split ends are gone. Another star is docked because while the website says $35 for women's haircut and many Yelpers said they received haircuts from "$30-$35," I was charged more. Not a huge deal, but a pain when it's cash only and I have to run to the ATM down the street just to get more money for tip. read more

Been looking for a salon that is reasonably priced, has good reviews and not too far from my house. Searched it up on yelp and saw KE Salon and decided to give it a try. I usually keep my hair long and layered but this time wanted to go in a different direction. I decided to go for a longer inverted bob. I was pretty nervous because normally short hair doesn't look good on me. However, Camilla did my hair and it came out pretty spot on to what I wanted. I've always wanted "cool hair". Unfortunately, I was convinced my hair sucked. After years of mostly unsatisfying looks, I was resigned to the fact that my fine hair would always lay flat and never hold a style. That all changed about a year ago when I discovered KE Salon and the amazing work of Kemal. When i moved to Lincoln Square, I decided it was time to try a new salon. I was drawn to KE after reading some very positive Yelp reviews. My hair was its usual mess on my first appointment with Kemal, and after a couple minutes of discussing what I had in mind, he went to work. We went with a side part with an undercut. The finished product was awesome, my hair looked like I never thought it could. It had life! Even better, I was easily able to re-create the look on my own with minimal effort. I've been going back on a monthly basis ever since, and Kemal always executes the look to perfection, even when I request a slight tweak in length or concept. On top of his genius work, Kemal is an extremely friendly guy. I enjoy chatting with him about restaurants/bars, soccer, or whatever else comes up in the roughly 10 minutes it takes him to work his magic. And I appreciate that he's always been very willing to accommodate me for a cut, even if I'm calling very last minute (which, guiltily, is more regular than not). I suggested that my girlfriend get a cut/style here for a wedding, and she came out looking gorgeous. She ditched her previous salon for KE, and has even recruited a couple friends who are now regulars as well. Definitely check this place out. Excellent cuts at a reasonable price! She's been my hair-cutter for about six months, since my old shop closed down. She is, in a word, fantastic. I like my hair a little longer than most barbers are comfortable doing, and I'm very particular about finding a good hair-cutter. My hair is finicky, and unless it's cut just right, it won't look decent as soon as two days later. Jamie is like a wizard, it's always perfect, and she's fun to talk to to boot. Great service for men who like a little more effort to go into their hair. Be forewarned though; this place is cash only. My sister and I have been looking for a new hair stylist ever since our old favorite had moved to Buffalo last year. I was able to nab Saturday appointments for us even though I had called on a Tuesday. With a lot of salons, you have to book a few weeks in advance to land a weekend spot since it's the busiest time. It was definitely a bonus that they were able to squeeze us in on such short notice. I got a basic women's haircut: cut off a couple of inches and added layers. My stick straight Asian hair has always been a black pool of silk that couldn't really do anything but go into a ponytail. The lady who cut my hair (her name escaped me, sorry) was able to give my hair some texture and movement for the first time EVER. The price came out to $35, which is pretty reasonable given the area. Slight downside: it's cash only and finding an ATM in the immediate area is a bit of a stretch. We didn't realize they didn't accept credit card and had to drive 5-10 mins to a Walgreens. I would recommend reminding the customer it's cash only when they make the appointment over the phone. read more

I have had a series of terrible haircuts from other salons for the past few years (because I'm a poor post-grad who can't usually afford a $35 haircuts), but today I decided I needed to get my shit together (and my hair fixed) and go back to KE Salon. I had an appointment with Violeta who was extremely nice and accommodating. She was also very honest with me about what was wrong, for lack of a better term, with my hair. She let me hem and haw for around 10 minutes about what I wanted done with my hair and then she gave me her professional opinion and then got to work. Needless to say it was amazing. She fixed my hair as best as could be and I'm very happy with the results. Definitely won't be going to students and/or friends for future hair cuts. Sticking with KE. read more
