To me, the cemetery grounds was more like a park rather than your typical cemetery - very peaceful. FYI: you must be a Coquitlam resident of 3 years in order to get the resident discount. The staff gave my 3 year old a bear. That part was pretty funny... he didn't want one at first and after the mass.. another staff approached and tried to give him a bear. At the burial sight, a canopy and chairs were set up. After the farewell, they closed up the burial site, added the grass back on and moved the flowers. The whole process was seamless Apparently, grandma already had her burial plan all set up so the funeral home followed it to the dot.

What an amazing evening! In fact, it was one of the best comedy events I've ever had the pleasure of attending. The evening's title was perfectly chosen: Grief n' Giggles - Coffin Up Comedy. If that name alone doesn't make you smile, the performers certainly will. Perhaps the most unexpected part of the evening was the venue itself: Victory Memorial Park Funeral Centre. Having only lived in White Rock for a short time, I had no idea this beautiful facility even existed. And before you let the words "funeral home" scare you off, don't. It's a stunning property with peaceful grounds that are perfect for a nature walk. Not exactly the first place that comes to mind when someone says, "Want to get some fresh air?" but maybe it should be. The brochure featured the tagline: "They say laughter is the best medicine, so we're throwing an event all about healing with humour -- no prescription required." Judging by the roughly 300 people in attendance, I'd say the prescription was filled. The evening was expertly hosted by Cliff Prang, who didn't miss a beat. OMG, he was hilarious. Melanie Rose and Vanessa Woznow rounded out the comedy roster, and together they delivered a night of laughter that had the audience roaring. You know how it is when you walk into a venue you've never been to before. There's the cautious step through the doorway, followed by the obligatory scan of the room to make sure you haven't accidentally wandered into the wrong event. In my case, I was greeted by no fewer than five different people: one welcomed me, two signed me in, one escorted me to the elevator, and finally there was the handsome gentleman whose sole duty appeared to be pressing the elevator button. I've never felt so important in my life. Once on the second floor, I discovered an entire reception area dedicated to mingling, complete with beautifully arranged buffet tables offering complimentary food and beverages. This came as a complete surprise since admission was by donation only. I had come prepared for comedy, not hors d'oeuvres. Needless to say, I adapted quickly. Later, the same elevator gentleman took the time to point out a beautifully handcrafted horse-drawn coffin carriage dating back to the 1890s. It was an extraordinary piece of craftsmanship and a fascinating glimpse into local history. Stunning woodwork and well worth a look. A special shout-out goes to two lovely ladies, Jeanette and Rosetta, whom I met while enthusiastically sampling the buffet. Rosetta is a vivacious volunteer at the Peace Arch Hospice Society Thrift Store, which apparently provides significant funding for the Society's programs. Another shout-out goes to the lady seated beside me, whose infectious laugh kept me laughing throughout the show. Sometimes laughter is contagious in the very best way. Finally, a heartfelt thank you to all the volunteers and organizers who helped make this first-class event possible. From the warm welcome to the delicious refreshments and the outstanding comedy, everything was thoughtfully planned and beautifully executed. If this was my first Peace Arch Hospice Society event, it certainly won't be my last.

Even though they were workers donned in overalls, they still expressed their condolences to the quite large group of family we had there. They must express a lot of condolences being the only ones who place caskets in the mausoleum, as it's an enormously huge building, so good on them. No funeral is going to be enjoyable, but they made it as painless as possible. The mausoleum is also a beautiful, tranquil quiet place in itself.

The email from JP, Pre-arrangement & Immediate Needs Special Family Service Advisor (a new title) contained "Important Document to Sign" and the first passage was "Thank you for placing your trust in us to assist with the final arrangements ...... .....". This is outrageous as we don't trust or have any confidence in JP, nor agree to sign any document for JP to get away with the accountability issue developed after a more than 15 month wait for the marker of our beloved mother to be processed. What is the reason for procrastination? On September 3, 2026, my husband and I were visiting the Garden of My Mom at Ocean View and noticed that there were red and blue flags on the plot right above my mom's plot. The top left corner of my mother's plot was sharing with the new plot immediately above. At the time of purchasing the plot in June 2025, we specifically asked about the surrounding area and there was no mention from JP in her response about the corner sharing plot until the markers appeared on Sep 3. We used up all our life-savings to buy from Ocean View a Home for my beloved mother to RIP, and we definitely deserved an honest disclosure. The management at Ocean View hasn't been able to delve into the matter and find out why it is taking 15 months for the marker order to be processed, nor could we accept the suggestion by the manager that the memento item we hadn't received was just a show piece on the invoice so we were asked to ignore it. "The Portrait of my Mother" has never been delivered to the doorstep of our home as was claimed. This is a matter of "Black and White" but all we have received is twisting and turning of the truth. Who is going to taking accountability and who is worthy of trust? By revealing details of the truth and our experiences with Ocean View, hopefully justice will eventually prevail. My beloved mother will finally RIP after such a tedious ordeal and long wait. At all costs, we will fight against the injustice and make it right. Sep 7, 2026
