We came here on a Friday evening around 8pm. We were able to find a parking spot on the street a couple streets away. We were looking for a place we would be able to take our dog so this was an option. Inside has live music that was pretty fun. We ordered our food late so they were out of a couple items. I ordered the chicken tacos. They were pretty good and a fair price. Our food did take a decent wait to come out. They have peanuts which were fun and held us over while we waited. So happy my husband and I found this brewery! We were visiting Woodstock with our pup and saw this brewery was pup friendly and it was super pup friendly! They let dogs inside which was especially nice during the winter. The food was really good as well. My husband enjoyed his burger with chips and I enjoyed the French onion soup and hummus. We went here to meet some friends who live in the area. We had our dogs with us so had to find a place in the area that's dog friendly. And this place is the epitome of that! The owner is soooo nice and took a liking and more so an understanding to our dogs. One of our dogs is a nervous girl and they accepted her for who she is! We love true dog people. So when I realized the beer at Keegan was the same as the beer at the Brickhouse Brewery in Patchogue, I was a little disappointed but was still down to check this place out and see if anything was different. Well, this place FAR exceeded my expectations. First off, the tasting room is nice. It's big enough, a little rustic but with plenty of space. Knowing the beers they had on tap I went with something I've had before which tasted great, cold & fresh. They had a food menu with actual options instead of just picky bar food and it really hit the spot (I was starving). I ordered the Cuban and it was amazingggg! I didn't get to snap a picture because it was gone as soon as it got to the table. This place was great which leads me to question why the Brickhouse sucks so much...maybe it's the atmosphere. During a recent trip upstate my friends and I decided to stop into Keegan Ales to enjoy a few local brews. We were looking for beers that were local and highly rated (which is when Keegan came up). We arrived on a Saturday around 4:30 P.M. For the most part the space only had a few other customers within the brewery. We were a group of five so we snagged the long table in the middle of the general seating area. The cool thing about this brewery is that it seems to double as a bar and a concert venue! When you walk through the main entrance you can see the stage where bands perform on the right and to the left is the bar area itself. The staff here was also knowledgable and friendly. I'd recommend coming here with a group for chill vibes with the chance you might get to see some live music as well! read more

As my readers know: I bleed beer and sweat whiskey. Keegan Ales in Kingston is a New Yorker's saloon. It sits right smack in the middle, on an intersection. A literal 'watering-hole' and a superb place for large groups: celebrations, season-winning get-togethers and bachelor parties. Sure there are some 'old' irish-pubs in Manhattan, run by - who knows. But Kingston was New York's first capital, not Manhattan - this is where the grit and the road meet; parties develop! This is upstate rowdy. This is where beer is drunk by the pint. Where conversations sink in.. At Keegan Ales the floors are sprinkled in saw dust and peanut shells, there are snacks galore. It is a giant room with plenty of tables and bar stools. Music is hopping. Lights are actually ON (nobody scrimping on power). There are awesome Americana graffiti outside to take selfies in front of. Beers will not run out. I visited this brewery when visiting my friend on a Saturday night. Due to Covid the main bar area had been mostly cleared of tables so it was very open. Inside it has wood flooring, old wood tables and a small to medium sized bar. I can imagine pre-Covid it would have been a rather tight fit to try and order your drinks. Outside they had a tent set up with seating, a live band, and a food truck. We didn't try the food truck, instead we played some darts inside. My husband got a coffee milk stout which was very smooth and creamy. I don't really drink beer and even I liked it. I would recommend it as a place to check out if you like a smaller bar with good beer. read more

To sum it up, YUM. Yelpers: Uncork Malt beverages here. I've had a couple of their brews before, but nothing compares to drinking them fresh from the pipe (a literal pipe with taps in it, for show). I had a pair of Mother's Milks - one with coffee (Joe Mama's Milk), one without. Both are superb, and at least one was on nitro. That's a stout I could drink all day and get very drunk and fat on. As we were relaxing, bands started setting up. Three bands, in three separate rooms. One of the bands was in the distillery room. If I had the time to stay, that would have been a most optimal experience. This is one of my favorite brewery experiences and the beer is worth staying for. Plus they have light bites to keep you company, and all the peanuts you can stomp. read more

The beers at Keegan are very good! The brewery has a big open space with plenty of seating outside, perfect for a very chill Saturday afternoon. Drafts at the time were only $4. Growlers were also available. The session IPA was $13 and the summer hefeweizen was $18. You can order food here as well. I ate a $6 pretzel sandwich that paired well with some chips and pickle. I sampled a friend's $11 curried chicken sandwich that also tasted great. Plus you get free peanuts with your beer. There are two very friendly cats that prowl around the bar. Just adds to the relaxed vibe! I also noticed posters for various bands that were scheduled to play in the brewery. All in all it seems like a great place to hang out! read more

My first visit to Keegan Ales was for one of their $3 Mason Jar Thursdays. That's an excellent deal, and I'm sorry the amount you get for $3 was too much for me to have a second beer and still drive home safely. Don't tell them, but I'll be just as much a fan paying full price. My Ale of choice was Joe Mama's Milk, with its coffee infusion, and that has instantly become one of my favorites in the Hudson Valley. Everything about Keegan is casual, from the seating to the setting to the food - order at the bar, get your buzzer, pick it up in the other room. I would not say that the food is fancy, but it's made really well. The herbed mayo on my grilled chicken sandwich was what made it special. Had I been hungrier, I would have tried the chili, or the bean and kale soup on their specials list. I understand they also do trivia on Tuesday nights. That's another plus for Keegan. It's a bit of a drive for me to get here, but I think it's very much worth it. read more

Keegan Ales is a wee bit out of the way for a Jersey girl like me, but drag your boyfriend to Hunter Mountain to go zip-lining and Keegan Ales is conveniently on your way home (well, kind of after a few miles off the NY Thruway). Pulling up, don't be scared. You'll find yourself going through an urban residential area before finding a nondescript brick building. Parking is across the street, and once inside you'll be transported to another world. The beer is good, and you'll find many regulars getting non beer cocktails. The food is OK (not great, but your standard bar food), and the environment is fun and lively. We opted for two flights (something that seemed to bewilder everyone else who were seeing it for the first time) and stayed long enough to enjoy the scene. Unfortunately we left just as the live band was starting, but found it fun to see the parties and the patrons who were young and old. Since it's out of my way, we won't be back often. It's more than a brewery! It's also a great meeting place. Talk about minimalist places, this meets that definition in the best possible way. Located in what at night time looks like an industrial/commercial area of the city, our GPS successfully delivered us to their parking lot. Upon entering through the doorway on the lit up wall with an Indian head painted mural, we heard someone in the open room with an old piano and a small platform stage say "hello!" We returned the greeting and turned to our left to enter another room where we spied some people sitting at a bar. The lighting was dim but we could see the approximately 12 bar stools were all occupied while a few high-tops and some picnic tables around the walls were mostly empty. Upon asking at the bar if food was available, the bartender asked if this was our first time here. She then explained to us newbies, as she handed me menus, that there was no table service and we could sit wherever we liked. We settled in on a high-top, noting that a couple at a table in front of us were playing backgammon. There was also a backgammon game and a maze game with little ball bearings on a window shelf next to our table. We decided to order a beer sampler, a Reuben ($9), and a Pulled Pork ($10) sandwich. As I went to the bar to place our order, a woman who was next to me asked where we were from and how we came upon this place. She seemed friendly enough and was looking to make us feel welcomed. When the beer sampler was put in front of me at the bar, both this woman and a woman on my other side offered to assist me in carrying to our table the sampler board with the six filled glasses, the card with the beer descriptions, and one of those vibrating buzzers to let you know when your food is ready for pickup. Very nice people. The beer sampler apparently is not a single fixed price. Three of the tastes were $1.85 each and the other three were $2.78 each ($13.89 for the math challenged). Glasses were maybe 5 ounces each. Responding to the buzzer thing, our sandwiches were retrieved from the voice in the other room that said "hello" when we first entered. The Reuben was served on marble bread with our side choice of potato salad. My wife said it was really good. My Pulled Pork was messy with lots of meat served on a fresh Kaiser roll. I chose coleslaw as my side so I could put some of it on the sandwich, but the sandwich was so large I had to alternate tastes of each. The beers at Keegan Ale are all very good. Even their lightest beer, Old Capital (4% abv), had a good amount of flavor. Our favorite was Mother's Milk (5% abv) followed by Joe Mama's Milk (8% abv). Drive up to Keegan Ales from the wrong direction and you might not even realize you're in the midst of a brewery. The facade facing Prospect St is nothing out of the ordinary. Come from a different direction and you'll be greeted with a huge Native American mural which might have you wondering what's in this spot. So what is here? A brewery worthy of 4.5 stars (with that last half needing to be earned on a return trip). This past Sunday, traveling back home from a weekend of baseball and beer, my amigos and I were driving near Kingston and decided to make one final beery stop. It was on the later side so Keegan's was barely inhabited, which some might find a good point as not to be too crowded. The thing is, Keegan's set up feels like it thrives best with an exuberant amount of bodies in the building. The layout is basically split into two sections. When you first enter, there's a platform, a window into the brewery, and a counter where you can pick up your ordered food (because Keegan's does do grub, which we'll get to in due time). The rest of the place is a typical dive bar set up. A few tables, some seats around the bar, and another mini platform in the rear. You might notice that the place is void of televisions. This is Keegan's intention as they want that genuine human interaction taking place. Oh and those platforms help with that as they aren't there for you to stand on and belt out a few tunes when you've had one too many too drink. No, they're meant for bands and performers to breathe life into this grungy spot. Unfortunately, those stages stayed empty during our visit, and the lack of bar goers left us with a "you're on your own" feeling. Beyond that, we had beer (and food). In the mindset of giving our livers a little break, we split one large flight (nine tastes) between the three of us. There was still plenty to go around. Highlights start with the milky based brews in Mother's and Joe Mama's Milk. Both are creamy stouts with a little sweet flavor and arguably some of the best milk stouts you'll try anywhere. Old Capital and Hurricane Kitty bring in the next line of lovely tastes with a crisp golden ale and a flavorful IPA, respectively. Bine Climber and a few of the other seasonal selections bring up the rear. Though, there's a couple of wild cards mixed in there: Super Kitty, with its 12% ABV, is a ferocious choice, and the White Birthday Stout is a unique brew just based on color (flavor holds it down as well). All that beer made us hungry, so we ordered up a couple of dinners. No waiter service so the bartender will take your order and in exchange you'll get a beeper that'll buzz when you can head to that aforementioned food counter. Choices, though somewhat limited, are what might be expected at a pub. I kept it simple with a grilled chicken breast sandwich (marinated in Old Capital) and a side of chili. The poultry had a nice taste, but a slightly odd consistently in that it was a little too chewy in bites. The herb mayo saved the day with a creamy addition to flavor. Chili was hearty and meaty and worthy of a repeat order. Nice touch with the pickle spear on the side. Between the meal and the beer, we created the best of the quiet night at Keegan's. Before departing, I also grabbed a $5 pint glass for my collection. Overall, Keegan Ales rocks...well, not entirely on a Sunday night. But the brews that are concocted here are worthy of consumption any day of the week. Food basically hit the spot and ambiance is what will hopefully bring me back again as I want to see this place in full swing. Made a quick stop at Keegan Ales on Friday evening. Rude patrons, insufficient staff, and weak beers at this dive bar that classifies itself as a brewery. Quality: Our visit to Keegan Ales had very few positives. The beer list is extremely small, with a set rotation of five beers and one or two seasonal beers. When I was told my first choice was kicked and the second wasn't actually ready yet, I moved from considering a Flight to just Drafts. I went with Joe Mama's Milk, an unimpressive coffee milk stout, and Hurricane Kitty, which is classified as an IPA, but lacked all the traditional elements and came out very stale. The Hot Pretzel and Cheese Sauce I ordered was fine, but it was the free Peanuts which was the only thing I truly enjoyed during my visit. Quantity: It was plastic cups, but the pours are fair. The Hot Pretzel and Cheese Sauce was small, but cheap. Value: $6 for a Draft. $4 for a Hot Pretzel and Cheese Sauce. Ambiance: Keegan Ales is located in Upstate New York, not far from Woodstock. It has a very off vibe, as if they could not decide whether they wanted to be a dive bar or a brewery. And even though they seem compatible, it just does not work. The outside patio with kid friendly beer tank and picnic tables feels like a brewery. Inside the dark and grimy bar covered in peanut shells is very much a dive bar. They were blasting metal music and it seemed like a live metal band would take the stage later that night. Crowd: I've never felt so unwelcome at a bar. I got the impression that each guest believed he had an assigned seat and had no obligation to allow space for others to order at the bar. One refused to share his menu, even though he had both food and beer in front of him. I blame the brewery for allowing this atmosphere to take hold. Service: No one cleaning glasses, so they had to switch to plastic cups. No cups by the water jug. No bartenders behind the bar for a good ten minutes as I waited to order. Clear staffing issues. While in the area, we stopped to visit Keegan Ales. We've had their beer before but finally made it to the brewery. They do provide tours and we had Tommy Keegan, the owner, do ours which was really neat. It was about 15 minutes but fun to see the process and how they brew. The atmosphere is very chill, with a bar area on one side of the building and an open area on the other which seems to be for live music and events. The bartenders were very friendly and helpful. Make sure to sample a beer before getting a full glass. We tried a flight of the 5 on tap beers and one of the seasonal. All were delicious in their own way (I prefer stouts and porters over IPAs and Ales). I definitely recommend getting a flight. Their food was really tasty. Usually you expect the food to be so so at a brewery but We were pleasantly surprised. We ordered the corn beef on a pretzel roll (a special) and their Cuban with mac & cheese. Both sandwiches were delicious, the pretzel more so than the Cuban. The mac & cheese was good but nothing special. We also got a pretzel with both mustard and cheese. Unless you love pretzels with cheese, just get the mustard. Overall, we loved our time here at Keegan. Definitely stop by if you're in the area. read more

Yesterday was my first visit here. I've heard many stories of how awesome this place is. Luckily for me, this was a great experience all around. The Hudson Valley Film Commission held their annual holiday mixer at Keegan Ales. I had two of their beers: Old Capital (described as an easy-drinking, crisp, golden ale) and Joe Mama's Milk (a coffee milk stout). I liked both but the Joe Mama's Milk was my favorite of the two. Good beer, free peanuts, and the building was an old foundry that used to build the manhole covers for the city of Kingston. If you do stop by, I recommend trying the Joe Mama's Milk, which is the Mothers Milk with cold-brewed coffee added. If you're a stout drinker, It's one of the best coffee stouts I've ever tasted.
