Hello I am writing to share my recent experience with Keen. I was interested in a pair of Keen liberty with a heel in size 12. I called the Portland garage store asking if they had a pair. The salesman who answered found a pair and sat them aside for me. Once I got to the shop he pulled out the boots and they looked great and were the correct size but had the wrong heel being a wedge sole. I asked him to get the 90 degree heel version and he told me they do not stock the heel version in the store. I thought that was strange being the flagship store and said so but the employee told me they cant stock everything. I tried on some Liberty in size 12 and they felt small. All my other keens fit in size 12 and have a wide toe box. I asked the employee if the leather on the toe was just leather or had a toe stiffener. He told me the boots had no toe stiffener and were just leather. Some I ordered in a size 12 even though they felt tight because I figured the leather would stretch. I ended up paying for 2 pairs of boots. Some grey steel Gibson boots and ordered the Liberty with heels. When my boots arrived a week later I opened the box and was disappointed to see the scratches and wear on the leather. It is so frustrating because all the Liberty boots in the store looked great. I own a pair of 6" Dover in magnet, 6" Cinicinati in belgian, 6" Dover in brown all ordered from Zappos and they all arrived mint condition. I actually got a 10% discount from that store. So it would have been cheaper to just order from them. I wanted to support Keen and check out the garage location as I had never been. The experience was lacking. The employee pulled the wrong boot, then claimed they didn't stock the one I wanted. The problem with that is when I called a few days later the next employee told me they have always stocked the heel version of the liberty. So did this guy lie to me to cover up his mistake of pulling the wrong boot? Also he does not even know what he is talking about when selling boots. The Liberty in a soft toe has a toe stiffener. I suggest he watch this video where a bandsaw cuts the boots in half. Also no wonder they felt tight even though all my other keen boots fit in that size. Even if the boots had not arrived damaged. I would have needed to exchange for 1/2 size larger since the toe stiffener eats up so much toe box room. It kind of baffles me why the flagship boots have a smaller toe box. This was a frustrating, time wasting experience. I think I will be taking a break from Keen. read more

My ten year old is obsessed with the Keen Newport sandals. Had to do an emergency shopping trip to the KEEN garage see if they were as good in person as they looked online- she had done a ton of research into the best sandals that were water friendly but also had a rugged sole for hiking. We went into the KEEN garage and Zia was super helpful and patient as we tried on different sizes, even though we were still looking around and weren't ready to buy yet. I was skeptical of Keen Footwear for years because of the design. It wasn't esthetically pleasing to me. Possibly a big mistake. Never judge a book by its cover,right? I was in need of replacing a aged old friend pair of boots that had served me well for 22 years. I pulled the trigger on a new pair of Keen Targhee 3 hiking boots and couldn't be happier. We happened upon this place because of going for coffee nearby. I have been needing new work boots for months and the Universe said it was time to try. I have had some Keens in the past and even though I am a princess when it comes to my feet....they worked great then. I walked in told them my size and they asked if they could measure me. They came up with 10 when I wear 11ish. I went ahead with their number because they know their sizes way better than I do. I ended up walking out with a new pair of black boots with a composite toe. I hope they work out for work. They fit well with some room. Just like I need. The guy who helped me was an excellent sales person. His knowledge was good while his firmness in handling a normally pain in the ass customer was impressive. read more

I purchased shoes on 8/19 at full retail. It did feel like a lot of money so I was a bit on the fence. The shoes then went on sale on 8/22 and I thought great maybe they'll provide me a price adjustment. So I immediately emailed keen services regarding a possible price adjustment. After a few emails between keen services I received an email on 9/3 saying to contact keen garage directly because keen services cannot do the price adjustment. I called keen garage and they said the sale was over now and can't do anything about the adjustment. I tried to explain I was trying to get in touch with keen services because the email for my receipt was from keen services and had I known I should of just called keen garage I would have done that. I feel like I was trying to contact customer service in a timely fashion and I feel like the decision to not do a price adjustment was fully discretionary by keen garage. read more

On my visit (7/31/21), they require shoppers to wear masks to enter the store. I've never been into a Keen shoe store, but have been a longtime fan of the brand. I've owned/worn Keens for more than 10 years and I love the wide footbed of the shoe...so comfortable and with plenty of support for walking around and for easy hikes. With plans to return to Honolulu, it is my intent to explore many of the trails in Manoa and Kailua. Ah, I need a good pair of waterproof hiking shoes. I looked online and found Keens. How ugly! However, there's a ton of outstanding reviews. I cerfed the different styles and found these clownish looking pair. On sale and ordered online. My feet, already striped with tan lines from the current pair of slippahs, I slided into the Keens. Wowza. So comfortable! I wore them around the house and no need to break them in. Had to reschedule my trip into 2021 due to COVID-19 concerns, but I'm still wearing my Keens till then. read more

I've purchased over 8 pairs of Keen shoes in the last 5 years. In the last 2 orders ( online) there were size discrepancies with certain shoe models. I normally fit an 11 Wide but needed to order an 11.5 Wide on their oxford work shoe . This shoe was shorter than the others. Well, on my last order the shoes were WAY TOO BIG- almost like they changed suppliers or something. I was traveling quite a bit with work at the time and had the shoes delivered to my business address. I contacted Keen about 90 days after the order was placed and explained that the shoes were so much bigger than all my other shoes. Keen is unwilling to take back the new shoes and exchange for a smaller size. I will never purchase from Keen and will make it my mission to let EVERYONE know that they do not appreciate their long time customers . Clerk could barely contain her resentment on having to wait on me from the get go. There were no other customers. I'm very courteous and sympathetic having worked with the public for decades has clerk, waitress, librarian. I'm a very easy going customer...but she tried my patience. She argued with me about sizing/ colors/ styles. I'm near 70 and know my feet. She reluctantly brought out different colors/styles as requested...though I boxed up and organized everything I tried on to save her the trouble. The store has a good selection and amazingly had plenty of options in my difficult size. But with such petty, rude, lazy service I doubt I'll return. Maybe she was having a bad day, but we all have bad days and manage to do our jobs. read more

I purchased a pair of keen sandals. Brand new they were soft and worth the price. I held on to them until summer to use river rafting. I used them once and then let them dry. The next day I used them in the sand for less than thirty minutes and the left sandal came undone. I called keen garage and spoke to a representative from my car. He explained that without a receipt, a copy of a credit card they could not help me, try using the online keen website and by the way, it's a minute after closing time - bye. He disconnected the call. I called the website the next day and they said to send photos and I did. They sent an email explaining that I need a receipt. They apologized for the inconvenience. Essentially I threw away $120. I used the sandals twice and then threw them away. I suggest you shop for more durable sandals. This was my unique experience dealing with keen garage. Horrible product with an apologetic staff. A side note , the sandals are marked for use in water. However, they disintegrate when wet. One of their employees said, leather is a bad idea for river use. I agree . Why label them for water use. Live and learn. Wasted money. read more

What an interesting space, high ceilings, oil drum seats, hand cranked shoe displays, I'm already a big fan of their shoes--not cheap but they last (and at size 15 xtra wide i'm happy to find some choice.) Keens are my go to shoe, I've been wearing them over 15 years and have several pairs. I recently visited Keen Garage ready to buy, its a cool space to try on and walk around in. I like the low pressure sales approach because the product sells itself, but I encourage the sales folks to be a little more involved. They could have easily sold me two or three pairs instead of one with no effort if they were a tad more attentive. There were several associates hanging around who seemed very friendly but not very proactive. I went home and ordered online. Still 5 stars b/c Keens rock. Love the new KS86. read more

I went in about noon on a Friday and was looking for a black shoe for work. I am picky about my shoes and have had a difficult time finding the right fit many times before. Some of the Keens fit me well, and some definitely do not. Sam was a helpful salesman right from the start and helped me find what I needed with a smile. I tried on about 4 or 5 different sizes and styles before I found something in my size, width, and desired color for $145. The store has a light, open, industrial loft style (aka garage) - and had a good selection of the keen styles to look at with an interactive chain pulley conveyor type of display for the shoes. I've had a pair of Keen Steel Toe Boots for close to 8 years now. I have done so many adventures in them and they have kept my ankles safe and intact over many rocks and boulders. I did backpack them over the summer and the weight of the steel toe started to bother me. So, I decided to finally get a pair of regular hiking boots. Adventured in on a Monday afternoon after not being able to get in several times due to store closures due to staff shortages. Totally get that but they have limited hours during the weekdays and I don't get off work until 5. Tricky when they are then closed on Saturday and Sunday. Nonetheless, I was able to adventure in on MLK Day. I got a new updated pair of hiking shoes and have already used them. Lightweight, study, and waterproof. Exactly what I was looking for! I've been looking for a wide hiking boot that a shoe store actually carries that I can try on! Also it has to fit orthotics. In researching boots, Keen was listed as having wide toe boxes for women. So I decided to drive up there to check it out. Many many shoe stores don't carry wide shoes, especially for women. I don't get it, so I'm grateful for those who do. The person helping us was helpful and patient and I did end up getting a men's shoe but it fit well. Proof though is how I feel after hikes. The price for these boots I felt was reasonable too. REALLY LIKE KEEN, BUT SHOE QUALITY MUST IMPROVE I purchased my first pair of Keen's about 10 years ago--the most innovative and functional design for a sandal with hard cover over the toe. Since then I've worn their hiking, casual and sandal designs with great satisfaction--good mileage, wear and quality. I currently have 5 pairs of Keen's in the closet. But recently two pairs of sandals delaminated at the sole. One sandal was only a year old--and Keen gave me $100 credit / warranty for a new pair. I appreciated the warranty, however the turnaround time is a little slow and too much correspondence was required. A second pair (Marshall style) of light weight trail shoes is not in acceptable condition after 6 months of moderate day trail hiking. The soft sole cracked and small rocks wedged in the cracks which is uncomfortable. The top side thin, breathable mesh ripped in two locations. The stitching was not strong enough to hold the mesh to the hard rubber part of the shoe--not a good design. Competitor brands, i.e., Brooks, molds their tin mesh to the hard rubber instead of stitching. For now I can not justify buying more Keens. I hope the quality issues are resolved, because I would like to try Keen again in the future. read more

Most fun:pulling in the garage-like cable to see the full display of shoe models! HQ here, Keen puts out quality, no doubt (3 pairs owned). But, the prices are just stultifyingly high. I have bought Keens as a basic footwear for years. I bought a pair with textured insole and my feet got blisters. I tried socks and still got blisters. I went to my foot doctor and she recommended that I stop wearing them. When I went to the store, I was told they only replaced shoes based on material defects. On Friday, 1/3/20, while visiting Portland, my family and I arrived inside in your Keen store at 6:45p (15 minutes before closing time). Present in the store were a female employee straightening shoes, and a male employee standing at the register. No one else was in the store. Neither employee said anything or smiled or made eye contact. I brought a shoe to the male employee and asked for my size. He said,"okay," without enthusiasm and silently delivered the pair to me, then walked away. The shoes were a little tight. I considered requesting the next bigger size, but did not feel comfortable because of the employees' unfriendliness. We left without making a purchase. My husband and i have each purchased shoes in the store, and had planned to do so again. read more

Great shoe company that happens to be based in Portland. They have really good hiking and water shoes and it's always better to get them fit in person so I recommend going to the Keen garage. It's a pretty fun hip shoe store and the selection is great. Best place to get hiking shoes for kids. read more

Great shoes, sandals, and boots for the northwest and everywhere. I bought my original pair of their boots at a REI sale some years back, and have been a huge fan ever since. My podiatrist says that they are some of the best shoes around, especially for someone like me with wide feet. This store has great employees and service. I have returned or exchanged stuff there that I had bought online from Amazon with no hassles. Lots of room to move around at the store, and the 50%-off sale rack seems to almost always have something for me. Great quality. Anyone trying to appeal to a human is told that the computer won't let them do anything and it is beyond their control. I've been wearing Keens for years, big fan of the roomy toe box, comfort, and styling. I've done a lot of walking in Keens, and they're good enough looking to wear for office or semi-dress. Never had bought directly from Keen, so I thought I'd try their store. Did my online research and had a few styles that I wanted to check out. Big surprise: no labels on the products. Price tags, yes, but no product name. So you need a good visual memory to find the shoes that you want. After a bit, you'll see that the shoes on the displays are categorized the way they are on the web site; again, no signage, but you figure it out. The other surprise is that they don't stock all of the shoes that they make. That was a real WTF moment. As you would expect, the store is very busy on weekends, so it can take quite a long time to try on and purchase shoes. Part of the problem is the old joke: "How many people work here? About half of them." On the day I was there, one person was working and two others were standing around talking to their friends. Suggestions to management: Stock everything you sell. This is your flagship store. Signage. Not everything is intuitive. Either bring all the merchandise down to floor level and make it a self-service store, or hire and manage staff that actually want to work. I'm not here to screw around with toys, I'm here to buy shoes. First time in a long time that I would have been better off buying online than from a store. I've read about Keen's management problems, and now I've experienced them. read more

I only came here because I had A gift card. Employees are not very friendly they will get whatever shoes you want but not enthusiastic whatsoever. I like the fact I was able to try the shoe on and have my children try the shoes on before we brought them online. On March 18th, my girlfriend and I went to the Keen Garage store in the Pearl District of Portland Oregon with the intention of purchasing a couple new pairs of Keen shoes for our upcoming trip. On that first visit, I asked for the Keen Targhee to be placed on hold for me to pick up the next day. My girlfriend already knew that she was going to purchase the Terradoras, but upon trying them on, realized that the shoes ran much narrower than most Keens do. She was told by Allison that the shoes were not offered in a wide and that the only other women's waterproof, low-cut shoe she had to offer was the Presidio. My girlfriend even double-checked with another staff member to see if there were any other waterproof shoes they could offer in their Keen inventory and was told that they had none. The next day on March 19th, upon visiting another local shoe store and Keen retailer, Gimre's of Hillsboro Oregon, my girlfriend found out that the Terradoras were in fact offered in a leather, waterproof material instead of synthetic - which ended up fitting her perfectly. On that same day, I drove from up north right after work to pick up the shoes that I had requested to be put on hold the day before. When I called to let Keen Garage know I was on my way to pick up the shoes, I also, out of consideration, informed them that I was 30 minutes out and was due to arrive about 10 minutes past their closing time and asked if they could stay open a little later so that I could purchase the shoes. A female answered the phone and her unapologetic and unempathetic exact response was, " Yeah, no. We can't stay late because we have other things to do after work." On March 25th, I thought I would give them a second chance despite our previous experiences and went to the Keen Garage to purchase the same shoes that I have been wanting. Daniel politely opened the door and greeted the last customers out, but then looked at us and said he couldn't let us in because they were already closed. After begging and pleading about having driven from up north just to purchase these same shoes, he eventually let us in. We went straight to the counter where I was told that the shoes in front of me were the only size 12 they had left. When I inspected the shoes and attempted to voice my concerns about the dents on both shoes, I felt dismissed when Allison simply said that my feet would stretch out the dents once they're in the shoes and that I could just return the shoes within 30 days if I was not satisfied. When I arrived back home and further inspected the shoes, I noticed that the dents looked even more unnatural, the threads on the stitching on some parts of the shoes were sticking out, and the back of the right shoe was missing a reflective strip (see photos attached). As one could understand, this has been an extremely frustrating, upsetting, and shocking experience we have had dealing with the staff at the Keen Garage in the Pearl District of Portland, Oregon. As avid Keen fans, owning multiple other pairs myself, my girlfriend and I are extremely disappointed at the unmet standard of customer service one expects to receive at a Keen store. The staff at the Keen Garage appeared bothered and inconvenienced when approached and seemed to be selective with which kind of customers they would provide good and attentive customer service to depending on how they "look." We are embarrassed for the staff at the Keen Garage store for their behaviors and wonder how many other customers they have treated as poorly as they did us. My girlfriend and I continue to support the Keen brand and fully recommend and suggest that prospective customers visit other local shoe stores and Keen retailers instead, such as Gimre's in Hillsboro, REI in Portland, and When The Shoe Fits in Vancouver on the Washington side. Unfortunately for me, I have to spend these next two weeks before my trip stressing about having to return these shoes that were already difficult to find since other stores were sold out and hoping I'll find the right nondefective pair in time for my trip.
