I've now planned 2 bar mitzvahs and the planning process starts so early since you get the dates 3 years in advance. Sometimes the vendors you end up choosing end up moving businesses and that's exactly what happened with Kehoe. We met with 4 different decor companies for my son's recent bar mitzvah and opted to go with Kehoe because we absolutely loved Mal- her energy, her warmth and (most of all) her fresh ideas. She was lovely and easy to work with throughout the entire process so I was bummed to learn a month before our big event that she she had moved companies. However, my planner assured me that we were in very good hands because Tom Kehoe was taking over our event and that most of our event was already in production. I guess this is the benefit of going with a large company like Kehoe. I do think things were a little more chaotic in the few weeks leading up to the bar mitzvah as Tom and his team (we mostly worked with Sydney) got up to speed. We had to redirect with some proofs at the last minute, but the finished product was more amazing than I even expected. The tennis decor they designed was youthful, classy and absolutely breathtaking. Even big sister (my 15 year old daughter) who is tough to impress walked in and said "WOW- this is actually really cool." And while there were many amazing wow moments from the night the #1 comment I received over and over and over again was that decor was unbelievable. It was definitely pricey and tough to swallow spending what we spent on what's essentially a 13 year olds birthday party, but I gave the same budget to 3 other well known decor companies and the budget went further with Kehoe than any of the others. And I thought their ideas were also more innovative and appropriate for a 13 year old boy. Overall, I couldn't have been more pleased. I'm bummed that Mal herself moved on, but would definitely consider using Kehoe again providing there is another designer who is a creative and fun to work with. read more

What an incredible business and fantastic designers! I'm helping to work on a fundraiser, and had the privilege of visiting Kehoe to check out the design area, the venue and the mock-up centerpiece & room décor centerpieces. We had an absolutely wonderful tour from room to room, checking out all the unique areas, design options and examples. It's an artist or event planners dream! They have several rooms in the back with barn doors that hold in the mock-ups for their clients. It was a fun reveal to walk in and see our design boards come to life. We were walked through the thought process, welcome to provide feedback, talk through different options and make changes. It was a great partnership and meeting. We walked through the back workspace area too and it was very neat to see everything being worked on and all that goes into the designs we saw in the showroom. We had Kehoe provide the décor for our wedding and would highly recommend them! Best of the best. We worked with Mat Lahey, and he was amazing! When we first spoke with him, we gave him our color palette and expressed our vision for the space. He provided a design proposal which was beyond anything we would've thought of. From there, he provided a mock up of each item for us to review, and we had barely any comments, it was THAT good. Then came the wedding day, and we were floored by the execution. Kehoe Designs - I have never used your services but when I get married or have a need for an ultra special bouquet, I will speed dial you. Yelpers, I work in one of offices where the property managers takes great pride in displaying a new set of floral arrangements by the front desk -- none of them cheap stuff or boring/tired fake-flower looking things. I'm talking show-stopper, Dolly Parton-in-your-face type of flowers that really make high-end clients, associates, and visitors take note and pause. altogether now { ooohhhh, aaaaahhhh, ohhhhhh } Kehoe's florists have giant green thumbs and eagle eyes for design, texture, and color. This is reflected in their amazing bold arrangements which have sculptural qualities to them. Yes, I imagine they're expensive, but they are exquisite and last the full week, if not longer. They must have a great supplier of flowers and take great care in making quality arrangements because even after 5 days, they look just as fresh and alive as when they were first delivered. How did I know it was their work? Because I was among several associates that had their jaws dropping - so much so that the security guy opened up his desk drawer and handed me over the business card to Kehoe Designs. Kehoe did an incredible job designing the layout of our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception. They were agile and efficient in their set up while still being able to provide breathtaking designs. We unfortunately encountered rain on our wedding day with an outdoor wedding planned. Kehoe was able to audible to our plan B ceremony venue and had everything set up. Renee at Kehoe was amazing and made our plan B look like it was our expected venue. The venue was beautiful and when we first saw it, all our worries of the rain dissipated. I am extremely delinquent in writing this review from my wedding last April (2012), however, I wanted to make sure I gave Lauren Westhoff and Renee Price from Kehoe Designs a TON of credit for making my wedding so beautiful and special. They worked within our budget to come up with very elegant reception centerpieces and bouquets. Our reception was at the Chicago Cultural Center, which is very lovely but a little large. We were worried about the reception seeming a little stuffy and/or sterile. Renee and Lauren created a great draping option around the bars and an amber lighting design that didn't completely break our bank but helped warm up the dance floor and made the event space seem more intimate. I am still getting compliments from people on how beautiful our flowers were and how they loved the draping by the bars at our wedding. It makes me feel so proud and that the little "extras" that Kehoe proposed were SOOOOOO worth it. I wish I had a larger budget to spend on decor...I would have loved to see what they would do with it. As far as working with Kehoe...it was a little complicated at first. I was originally working with another designer who left the company without telling me. It took a while for me to get in touch with someone to get a proposal and sign a contract after that...which was a little frustrating. After that...the associates at Kehoe were great! Renee and Lauren were so patient with me (I was definitely "that bride" a few weeks before the wedding) when I was suggesting changes to the colors/flowers/etc. In the end, their recommendations worked out amazingly! I don't think they're used to working with smaller budgets like mine but I felt like valued client throughout the planning process. We were looking for event designers for our wedding. Of course, we need the best and therefore looked into Kehoe. Berkley is great. From our first initial meeting, she had a great vision. Unfortunately, we needed to see the centerpiece before signing a contract, and Kehoe does not do that till you sign a contract with them. I was a bit disappointed but they still remained in the running. The pictures we seen of past events looked great. I'm sure they do great work, but as a bride -to-be, I need to see what my wedding day will look like. She told me that they could work within any budget just submit my vision of what flowers I would love to use. I emailed them with all of my information and did not hear back. So, I called 3 times. My daughter had a general idea to personalize the table settings for her wedding reception with photos of friends and relatives. In addition, she did not want to use flowers for her bouquet nor the reception centerpieces. Instead, she hired a student in the school where she teaches with a special talent for making paper flowers. So, between paper flowers and a special photo collage, we set out to find a decorator who could turn her vision into a reality. Having interviewed designers from three different decorating companies, we found only one individual who knew exactly what she wanted and who could come up with a centerpiece vessel that displayed the photos in ways that became even more creative than we anticipated. That person was Phil Cooper from Kehoe Designs. Unlike other designers who pushed real flowers and downplayed the photo displays, Phil incorporated my daughter's wishes - both the photo display and paper flowers - into unique, one-of-a-kind centerpieces that captivated our guests. Combined with special lighting, the display of photos used for place cards, and the classy use of drapes and candles, the spaces for the ceremony and reception at Venue SIX10 in Chicago turned out to be outstanding. We recently had a downtown Chicago NYE wedding. Kehoe was referred to us by our venue, theWit. Our initial encounter with Kehoe was with one of their Event Producers, Joshua Jones. The initial meeting process was so much fun and organized because prior to the meeting we were asked to fill out a questionnaire of our design/style ideas along with our Pinterest board link in order to provide that for Josh. He knew exactly what we had in mind: clean, modern, sophisticated, with a touch of romance. We met with Kehoe about a month and a half prior to the big day to catch a glimpse of the vignette they put together of our potential reception space. Two words: "Mind Blown." And that was just a teaser, my friends. The center pieces were spot on with full blooms of white peonies, ranunculus, & hydrangeas. The mercury glass he so carefully placed in small collections added just the right amount of romance and glamour especially for a NYE wedding. The day of the wedding, I was completely floored by how much Josh and his team at Kehoe transformed the space into something so dramatic with the lighting concept they executed for our reception. One of the most unique things Josh was able to provide us with was a very cool and modern table chart lucite panel that was backlit with candles. He even included a quote he found on my Pinterest board referring to my husband, which I find so moving and such a compelling gesture of sincerity. Overall, I would not have chosen any differently. Our lounge seating concept added the right amount of warmth and comfort, the bouquets for my bridesmaids and myself were carefully arranged and wrapped in the same material as our dresses, the centerpieces on all the tables were mindblowlingly gorgeous and stunning. Joshua even personally hand delivered our flowers to the church located in Glen Ellyn about 30-40 minutes outside of the city. Josh, Alexis, and their Kehoe team handled the day like true professionals without compromising on the wants and vision of the client. I simply cannot say enough good things about Kehoe Designs and the wonderful, talented team that we worked with for our wedding last Friday. Before I sing their praises (because it's all I can do is give them kudos after kudos), people need to realize that Kehoe is NOT a florist; you do not stop by & pick up a bouquet of flowers on your way home. Kehoe is a WELL RESPECTED, very understated but unbelievably chic, and the most unpretentious "haute" organization I have ever had the pleasure to work with. If you are looking for an extraordinary EVENT PLANNER, do yourself a favor and hire Kehoe immediately; if you are looking for your average florist, you are better off looking elsewhere because that is not their core competency. Next, whomever it was that had a bad word to say about Jamey Harding did not work with the Jamey I was so very fortunate to do so. She is incredible, one of the sweetest people I've ever had the opportunity to collaborate with (and you do "collaborate" with Kehoe, which really makes them stand out from everyone else in Chicago). She met with us back in January for our July wedding and spent as much time as we needed to get our vision; the very next day, I received a proposal that by no means seemed expensive (and I didn't have a budget in mind, yet I didn't gasp at the proposed cost). We went back & forth a bit until we had our "sampling" in mid-March...my jaw is likely still on their very understated office floor at the amazing transformation of what I saw in my mind's eye into exactly what I wanted for my tables, trellis, ceremony chairs, lighting... Between that time and July 22, I asked about other options and Jamey, or her counterpart on our wedding Stephanie Coutts, always replied immediately with an answer or as to when she would have an answer. This was within hours, not days, and always with a pleasant tone, explanation as to what went into costs, etc. Both Jamey and Stephanie were quintessential professionals. Our wedding was beyond my imagination and when Jamey presented me with my bouquet, I almost cried at its perfection. I knew this was the work of many, but she and Stephanie were my primary contacts, and I cannot thank them & the whole team at Kehoe Designs for their dedication to us and our vision for our wedding day. We were, by no means, their most expensive client (in fact, we were probably one of their lower-cost ones!), but they made us feel like we were their only event and that it meant everything to them to ensure it was perfect. And it was UTTERLY perfect...because of Jamey, Stephanie, and the entire dedicated team at Kehoe. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU Jamey, Stephanie, and all of the folks that worked on our wedding...it was exceptional and my guests were absolutely "wowed" by your presentation. I will never hesitate to recommend Kehoe for any event, wedding or otherwise. As a final note, I also got other quotes and found Kehoe to be only slightly more costly than others, so don't let comments about Kehoe being overpriced sway you...they are very competitive and it was well worth the extra service to know that they did everything in-house (no subcontractors for my event). It's been a month since our wedding and people are still talking about how amazing the decor was. It was unique enough for me, a little whimsical and mostly an understated elegance that transformed the room. As a wedding planner myself, I know what goes into a wedding and how important it is to hire the right people. Being a large Jewish wedding we had the ceremony at the hotel and then only an hour to switch the room over. This was done flawlessly thanks to Ryan and his great team!! Everything on our wedding day was absolutely magnificent and completely exceeded all of our expectations. They are by far superior to all other florist/event designers in Chicago. My fiance and I set up an appointment with Kehoe based on reviews here. I told them our budget up front to make sure that they would be able to work with us and they said that they worked with weddings of all sizes. Note that the appt times are very inconvenient [no weekend times or evenings] so my fiance and I both took time off from work to make the appt. The woman was very nice and seemed interested in submitting a proposal - however, we never heard from her again. We tried contacting her several times and received no response. Horrible customer service. If they were too busy to work with us - they should have told us that up front or responded to our inquiries. Kacey was rude and unprofessional. I told her I had a budget of about $6K for flowers and decor. I told her my vision, and she returned a price of close to $15K. When I called to get her suggestions on where we could cut back to get closer to my budget, she did not respond. Ok... So I emailed her in case she didn't get my call...and still nothing!! How incredibly arrogant, rude and unprofessional!! Even if $6k was below your standard, you could kindly say this or provide a suggestion. If I were Kehoe, this would not be the individual I would want reorienting my company. Period. read more

Overall Kehoe creates great presentations, but they need more employees to assist with the execution. For our June 19th wedding at the Nature Museum there were many details that Kehoe just simply dropped or overlooked. First and foremost, much to our horror, they FORGOT there was a HEAD TABLE and thus had no floral arrangements designed around it. That's right - the table with the bride, groom, and wedding party. I had to bring it to their attention less than 2 weeks before the wedding. You'd think that'd be the FIRST thing they checked in the entire process, wouldn't you? My advice would be to write down everything they say and agree to, type it up, and review it with them SEVERAL times. We found that the nearer the wedding got, the less attention they paid to the details, instead paying more attention to how and when they would get paid. Their billing person had very little (if any) communication to the sales person/designer and thus we were given multiple conflicting emails and information that was entirely incorrect. Their sales people are much too busy unless you are throwing a larger event, then they will treat you like gold. We're not even sure the person we believed was directing the entire operation was even at the wedding (they set up an hour or two in advance and then leave). Kehoe was supposed to project a nature scene on a wall at our wedding and instead it was projected onto the ground 50ft from the wall. The floral arrangements were great though, can't complain about that. I just can't understand why they set up a venue and then literally LEAVE. They don't mention that, but after seeing this maybe they will start informing people. They come back at the close of your wedding to tear down and take away their equipment. I would just make sure you're both on the same page as you get closer to the wedding. If you're getting married at a simple venue, no problem - but if you have a more intricate setup or a larger venue with many rooms, review review review! Watch out for the famous "gotcha" in event planning, which is when the vendor says, "Ohhhh, that's not in the contract, that was only in an email". Ouch!! read more
