BEST salon hands down- I would recommend to everyone who desires exceptional service, a lux environment, and top of the lines color and cut (oh and of course - a Goldwell Color) When I lived in Texas I had a lot of trouble finding a salon that could achieve the particular shade of platinum blonde that I like (ultra white, purple undertones). I'm SUPER particular about it. After 1000s of dollars and failed attempts, I found this salon on yelp. I took a chance and drove 2 HOURS (each way!) to try it out. Soooooo glad that I did. They nailed it. I spent the next year and a half in TX driving 4 hours every 4 weeks to get my hair done at this salon. Everyone there is highly trained and great at remembering details. Each time I visited they would acknowledge my long drive and make me fee great that I took the trip out to see them. I moved to FL and miss them dearly! I originally came to this salon when my stylist moved over from a salon downtown. She no longer works here, but it's okay because I would trust any of the stylists at Keith Kristopher with my hair! I get a full bleach job typically once a month and a half from Rhea and my color always looks incredible! I'll then get a cut usually once every two/three months from Madison, and she always does an amazing job at cutting and styling my hair. I especially appreciate the styling techniques she always bestows upon me, even if I never quite get it to look the same at home. I am most impressed with how they have transitioned their appointments during Covid. I always feel safe and taken care of here, and I've never seen any of the other clients break any rules which is awesome! I'll be coming to this salon forever read more

This place is just straight up lovely. Everyone is so nice and, although it feels and looks like a super upscale salon, I never feel judged (which I've felt at other salons when I walk in). I have gotten my hair cut twice now by Madison and they are truly the greatest cuts I've ever gotten. I have thick, wavy hair and I think I'd just gone my entire life without having a great haircut. She is able to cut the weight out but keep volume and whatever magic she does helps my natural waves pop. Even when its grown out a few months, it looks awesome. I also recently got a balayage from Naomi and had an excellent experience. I was a little nervous because I wanted a change but had only had my hair colored once before many years ago. She walked me through some options and asked to see a photo of what I wanted. She absolutely killed it. I am so, so happy with my red/copper balayage. I drove 30 minutes to find out that my appointment was not on their schedule. The scheduling happened over text so I'm sure I didn't get the wrong date. Double check and maybe triple check before you get in your car to get to your appointment. UPDATE: As a result of my review, I received an email offering a complimentary service which I decided not to take. This was my response to the owner: Thank you Keith for your message. I did text back saying I'll take the spot. I just didn't do it until the next day. At that point, I didn't receive any message saying that the spot was no longer available. I drove from Southwest Austin to get to your salon, super excited to meet my new hair stylist. I have a young boy at home and had to arrange for a babysitter. If you or one of the other owners showed up and spent no more than a minute with me, I would have been very understanding. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. Also, in your reply to my review you said that you didn't receive a text back from me which is simply not true. For that reason, I decided not to accept the complimentary service you offered me. So, I have never cried because an experience at a hair salon was so good. This place is the exception. To give a little background - I lost a lot of weight about two years ago and had quite a bit of hair loss because of it. Two years of extensions (tape-ins and klix - NOT put in by this salon) did a little more damage, but also forced a lot of my confidence to be tied to the length and thickness of my (fake) hair. Anyone who has had extensions knows that they are high maintenance - and I found myself not able to do some things I wanted to do (working out was tough because they are hard to wash and well, sweat). It was time for them to go. Everything from booking the appointment with Audra, to Maggie removing my extensions, to Lo cutting and styling my hair, to Kandra at check out...was the greatest experience I have EVER had at a hair salon. The owners should be extremely proud of what they have created. This is a very very special place, and it's pretty evident when you walk through the door. Everyone bent over backwards for me without batting an eye. Lo. Lo, Lo, Lo. Lo listened to me. She was not only a joy to talk to and hang out with for awhile, but her talent is on another level. She walked me through the styling process (not my strong suit) and gave me a style that I can maintain and grow into, while giving me back my confidence, and making me look and feel like a million bucks. Keith Kristopher has always gone above and beyond to make you feel special, nurtured and looking fantastic when you leave. They're also doing a great job of keeping everyone safe during Covid--from the moment you walk in they test for temps, give you hand sanitizer, require masks and have kept every other chair unoccupied. They have curtains between washing bowls and sanitize every chair when you get up. A special shout out to Sarah Saenz and Madison Williams who have kept me getting compliments on my hair wherever I go. Can't say enough good about them. After spending several hours and hundreds of dollars at this salon for highlights, I left with hair that was darker than when I went in. To the salon's credit, they offered to have me come in at a later date for a complimentary treatment to try to fix the situation, but I'm still sad I got charged full price for my hair being tortured with treatments and the colorist stating she couldn't predict how my hair would lighten so it turned orange and then she had to put dark river on it to hide the orange so that it looked just black when I left. My old highlights from 3 months ago looked better before I had my hair done and I spent 3 hours at the salon. I'm giving them two stars because of the offer of trying to fix it but I wouldn't trust this salon again. read more

Booked my appointment 6 weeks out. I work every day so had to go through a lot to make the appointment on my scheduled time. Arrive for my appointment to be told that they removed it because they didn't receive a card to add to their file. I understand this is business policy but no one called or followed up to notify me that this had happened. I'm super busy and had it in my head that my appointment was booked. My bangs are super long and out of control so I asked if at a minimum they could book me for a bang trim to get me by. I have had appointments with three different stylists but specifically got tape in extensions done with Rhea today. Word of caution: Stay away from this salon, they will take your money, sell you products and have zero accountability. I spent over $600 to get highlights and spruzzi and I was super excited to see the results, only to my surprise that both were utterly disappointing. The spruzzi costs you $280 and is supposed to tone down frizz and make your hair feel healthier with the collagen protein and the keratin. Neither of the outcomes happened. My hair is just as frizzy AND doesn't show an aorta of difference. For the highlights ($200), I clearly told the stylist to use caramel and light brown tones with a touch of copper. Turns out, she took the shortcut method - where after the bleach was applied, she mixed all three colors and applied them at once, saying they will all "color differently" which I found surprising but trusted her. Turns out, the end color was really copper and didn't go with my skin tone at all! They promised to fix it in two weeks. Turns out they cancelled the correction appointment as I called back to express my disappointment with the spruzzi. Their reason, "it seems you are not happy with your spruzzi so we feel we should just go separate ways". Bottomline, Keith Kristofer's philosophy is that if you have had a bad experience with one stylist they are not going to fix the other stylist's mistakes either. No partial refunds, or full refunds or any responsibility towards client satisfaction or accountability for the results they promise. I have NEVER had to deal with such a business ever in my adult life. So save your money, and try a different salon that actually cares about their clients and wants to work with them to get to a place where both parties are happy. ** Update ** : After reading the response from Kris, the owner to this review, as I don't see a way of replying to this response. Kris, everything that you responded with is an outright LIE. There are some basic professional ethics in business and I am disappointed to see a salon as seemingly reputable as this, resorting to dishonesty. I am just appalled. Either you are determined to paint a false picture or negate my review at any cost, OR your stylists are simply not being honest with you at ANY level. The hair treatment stylist DID NOT advise me against a spruzzi at any time during our conversation. She and I were in agreement on the treatment all along the way with the end goal of less frizz and healthier hair just like mentioned in my review. I walked away the day off happy, thinking that she did a great job, only to wash my hair 2 days and see the same issues and NO CHANGE. The hair colorist got clear instructions from me to give me dimensions and contrasting colors. When I saw these terrible results, I consulted with two other salons to validate the process of applying color. After the bleach/lightening step, the colorist is supposed to apply the hair color in layers and NOT JUST MIX THEM ALL UP in a tube. How the heck does that work in any practical scenario if the outcome intended is to have different colors and highlights??? It was a shortcut and I expressed a concern as she was mixing the colors. She is twisting the facts with you, Kris. The darker on the head versus the roots has "nothing" to do with giving dimensions to the overall outcome on the roots with the RIGHT colors. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways! 1. The front desk staff is awesome!!! They are always so friendly and welcoming and truly make you feel like you are visiting old friends instead of the salon. They always offer you a beverage and make a point of making you feel welcomed. 2. Amber is an eyebrow goddess! She managed to take my mangled, blotchy brows that had been defiled by a bad wax job and turn them into movie star brows! 3. Adrienne is seriously the best stylist I've ever had. I just moved to Austin from Colorado not that long ago and I went to a salon there that had it's own show on TV and was really well known for their signature blow outs. Adrienne has managed to blow them out of the water. Her attention to detail and understanding of color processing is incredible and the work she does is absolutely art. I swear, nary a week goes by that I don't get at least one compliment on my hair color and almost everyone thinks it's natural. (It's red by the way, by far the most challenging color to create and maintain.) 4. OMG the price! I cannot believe what a great value for the money Keith Kristofer is. I frequently do a double take when I get the bill and have on several occassions questioned if they forgot to charge me for something. It's far less than I've spent at far less reputable and quality salons. 5. FREE Kerastase treatments! Can I just say that Kerastase makes the world a better place? I went back to Keith Kristofer after my earlier bad experience. The salon messaged me after reading that review, and offered to set up a complimentary session to right things. Normally, I don't like returning to place where things have gone wrong, but the sincerity of the note they sent me, plus the desire to have a working relationship with a "neighborhood" place took me back in. And I'm so glad I went. This experience was completely different, and I was attended to by completely different people. The co-owner Kris was my colorist. My hair is pretty basic (a very dark brown) and I have a few highlights to break the monotony. Kris was very attentive with my gray growth as well as the skin around my hairline (my face picks up hair color like a sponge). She applied a cream around my face before starting work, so that the color wouldn't catch on. She was meticulous and thorough with the application of root color. Following this, she heard my preferences for highlights (subtle and gray-growth friendly) and added a few strands of balayage work to my hair. Her color work left my grays 100% covered, with a hint of highlights lending dimension to my hair. During this process, Kris was very friendly. We talked about many things, settling on dogs as a common interest. She was also direct and courteous in addressing my prior experience with Rhea. Her handling of the whole situation was classy. Despite the frustration my review must have caused the salon, she was very understanding and appreciative of the feedback. Once the color was applied, Kris left me in the hands of Trent for the wash & blowout. Trent is my new favorite blowout person in Austin. When he was done, my hair looked lovely and elegant without looking overworked. He checked with me about brush (size, material etc) preferences prior to the wash. The wash itself was very comfortable, with no pulled strands. Once back in the chair for styling, he discussed product use - both what I use, and what a Kerastase alternative would be, and started work on my hair. He was capable, confident, and after the first section, he knew exactly how my hair would respond to his styling. I have medium length, thick, curly hair, and he was able to style it into a soft wavy finish just the way I wanted to. Keith Kristofer has a lot to offer, not the least of which is how invested the owners are in the satisfaction of their clientele. If you've had a bad experience with them, I do recommend talking to the owners, providing feedback, and seeing if you can't find a different staff member that you like. I foolishly attempted to bleach my own hair a few months ago and it was time to get someone to fix my mess =\ Luckily after reading some great reviews, I ended up setting an appointment at Keith Kristofer :) I'm so happy I found them. They got me an appointment right away and set me up with Maggie. The second I walked in the door I encountered nothing but friendly service and attentiveness. Maggie quickly came to greet me just a few minutes after I arrived and we discussed what I wanted and what could actually be done with my hair. This was a color correction job because my hair was patchy and still had a lot of brassiness that I wanted to get rid of, not to mention I need to retouch my roots. I eventually would like my hair platinum/white but I already knew this would not likely happen since my hair needed a lot of TLC. Maggie, with help of some of the other stylists came up with a plan and quickly got to work. I was very impressed at how well all the girls work together and help each other. They also made sure I was comfortable through the whole processes. I have repented of my sins, returned to Keith Kristofer Salon and look fantastic. My first trip to Keith Kristofer resulted in the best haircut I'd ever had. I have very fine hair and had always left it way too long which made it shapeless and scraggly. I would let each new stylist cut a more each time because I started to see how much better it looked with some shape to it but I never found the right person to make me feel WOW. Then Sarah came along and gave me a fantastic bob with all the soft layering I needed to add some oomph to my limp hair. No choppy texturing. It was PERFECT. Fast forward to the next appointment and I was ready for cut and color. For reasons I can't remember (scheduling?) my color was going to be done by another girl then she would pass me off for the cut. After my color was done (highlights and lowlights) Sarah was still in the middle of working with the client before me. They asked if I wanted to wait for her or just let Monique (I think that was her name) do the cut. I let Monique finish and it was a really nice cut and the color was gorgeous. Now I'm a thrifty girl and I have to admit I had sticker shock when I got to the counter to settle up because of the cut + 2 process color.... but I did not have buyer's remorse. The color lasted forever! For what ever reason I turned into a cheapskate and thought I could get a good cut at some of the other places I've reviewed. I don't mean to dis them but it was never the same quality of service and experience. My neighbor always looks cute and she goes to Bird's. I just never got a good cut there. The last place I went was highly rated by other yelpers but I ended up with a 90s mom hair cut. No real nice shape to it and choppy texturing. I realized I'd rather walk away a tiny bit lighter in the pockets than buyer's remorse so I went back to Keith Kristofer and Sarah Saenz (remember that name) fixed me again. I told her that I wanted to let my hair grow back out to just below my shoulders but I couldn't live with the funky shape I had right now. She agreed and gave me a sexy cut and said to come back in 10 weeks for the next session. And I can tell you after 9.5 weeks I'll still look great and that's worth the $60.00. I've bought my hair products from KK in the past, but today I went and saw Cassie for a cut and color and could not be more happy with how everything turned out! I've gotten several compliments today already! I opted for the full highlights and a trim and Cassie helped me decide on the best shades of blonde that would accent my already-blonde base color (without looking bleached out). She was meticulous when it came to my highlights and evening out my layers. She definitely has real talent and an eye for color! The staff is also very friendly and I felt very comfortable in their salon. The prices are a little higher than other salons I've patronized in Austin, but I'm a firm believer in that you get what you pay for. Every time I've found the perfect stylist and salon, I've moved within a few months. In Dallas, Noreen at Salon Pour Vous - then I moved to New York. NYC, Lizzie at K E Haas - then I moved to Frisco. Frisco, Creative Fringe Salon - then I married my husband and moved to Austin. For the past two years, I've been on the search for my Holy Grail stylist, and by God, I've found her at Keith Kristofer. I went in with an overgrown, lank, misshapen bob, brought pictures of a cute layered cut, and by some miracle, Kathryn gave me a cut that was even better than I'd hoped for! She was meticulous about asking me about length, showing me how it'd look with 1/4 inch off, then 1/2, until I found the length that was perfect. She cut my choppy layers in the middle of my head rather than up at the crown, so I can make it cute and beachy or straighten it for a sleek look without having a bunch of tiny layers peacocking at the top. She told me about every product she was using and why, and with no pressure to purchase, I actually want to buy some of them once I'm out at home! Though I didn't get color this time, we talked about it, including determining my skin tone for a better idea of flattering highlights. Because it was my first visit, my cut was free (but tip well if you have a great service!), and I received a cute gift box with Kerastase samples and a card for a free mini-service. Tucked away in a retail center anchored by Trader Joe's, Keith Kristofer Salon should be your next and final stop in your agonizing search for the perfect haircut. I can only speak for Lo, my stylist who happens to hail from San Francisco, so if this review speaks to you, request her for the following reasons: 1) She knows Asian hair. She's not Asian, but she learned her craft in the Bay Area, read: plenty of practice. That, and she had no qualms whatsoever with (a) dry-cutting and (b) working with scissors exclusively, read: NO clippers. Let my initial failed attempts at communicating this paramount request to other ostensibly highly-reviewed stylists in Austin save you the disappointment that comes from moving to a city of mostly fair-haired Anglos. Btw, if you got thick "ethnic" hair of any background, Lo is your girl. She enjoys and excels at the challenge, which leads to my next point... 2) Lo studied art, sculpture specifically, before pursuing her career in hair. I think the best stylists, read: all my former stylists, have a solid foundation in art because they understand form and movement and most importantly, proportions. This means your hair will look good, on your head, with your face, and will grow out nicely too. 3) She is real. One thing I love about Texas: everyone is so damn nice. So is Lo. But she still retains some of that coastal city grit and attitude, which makes conversation interesting. 4) Price is commensurate to the level of attention to detail, and with the complimentary neck/side trim between cuts, very reasonable. Received a wonderful haircut from Meli, it was my first time at this salon. I have been to multiple salons in Austin, high and low end and the problem I have is that few stylist seem to listen to their clients, they have their own vision, I love an expert's opinion but, it is my hair and my style so I like some input. Meli took the time to discuss my cut which had grown out and was misshapen, she asked if she could clean up the areas that were problematic. As a gal with slow growing hair, I had concerns but she explained and demonstrated, why the length was causing a problem and how it would improve the overall style. I just have to say that I had gone to Keith Kristofer for 3 years and had been seeing the same hair stylist the entire time (except for a few rare occassions where she was booked and I had a hair emergency and saw another girl). I LOVED these girls. They always did an excellent job and made me feel like I was a close friend. However, last fall, the salon sent out an email saying both girls had left and they couldn't tell anyone where they were going. I know it's not their responsibility to share where hair dressers are leaving to, but they are the sole reason I went to the salon and I think as a customer, that information should be shared. I was devastated I couldn't find these girls anymore and that when I called, no one knew where I could find them. I unfortunately inherited my dad's eyebrows, so taming them is no easy task. Amber is the only one I've ever been to who not only tames my eyebrows, but has the ability to actually make them pretty... a nearly impossible feat! :) I discovered Amber 2 years ago, and I refuse to go to anyone else! This was my first visit to this salon. My haircut was with Jace and I just have to say I think it's one of the best haircuts I've ever had. I have very thick wavy hair and he totally understands curly/wavy hair. Watching him cut is mesmerizing. And he was good at explaining to me how to do a wavy natural look myself. The salon was clean, decor was great, music was great, everyone was friendly, and most importantly everyone had masks on and was following Covid rules. read more
