I've never been to Japan. I want to go to Japan but since I cannot do it anytime soon, I opt for places that somehow make me feel like I'm there. Luckily, there is a place that gives me that Japanese effect. But I won't talk about the food first. I'll take about what it looks like. This restaurant is quite small mostly with Japanese people inside and right infront you would often see the owner, a Japanese man smoking a cigarette looking like he's lost in thought. Maybe he is dreaming of sushi or maybe he's asking himself why he ended up in BGC. Either way, his face always lures me inside and his sushi fare keeps me coming back for more. What I love most about the food is that it's completely done in a traditional way. Part dinner, part work of art, Keizo's cuisine represents what Japanese food is all about- fresh, delicious and rich with flavor. For first-timers, I suggest you try their mackerel or their big sushi plate.

    Sashimi Platter for 2-3 people

Keizo is one of my favorite Japanese restaurants. The sashimi is always fresh (even though sometimes they're out of the types I like). The sashimi platter is a good deal with Hamachi, Sake, Maguro, Uni, Ika, and Tako. The combination sometimes varies, depending on what they have in stock. Their ramen leaves a lot to be desired, but it's not really a ramen place so that's okay. The winner, for me, is their line of curry dishes. I've heard that the Japanese owner makes his own curry everyday. I've had it and even though I'm not a big Japanese curry fan, I liked it. The service is great and the owner's almost always smoking outside the door, ready to greet you when you come in and thank you when you leave. They also serve complimentary hot or cold genmaicha.

    The best uni don!!

Keizo is my go to Japanese restaurant in The Fort. The food is ALWAYS consistent and the owner, Yoshi, is always around to give smile and oversee his staff, making sure that everything is just right. Though if I were to go for Japanese, the offering in Little Tokyo's restaurant is more diverse, and arguably better, but since I live in the area, I'm always at Keizo. The staff are pretty good here too and I like that each meal comes with a small free appetizer, warm towel, and green tea. The uni here is really amazing and also pretty cheap. The uni don costs just over 300 bucks and it contains all the uni you could desire. They also have good individual sushi and the chirashi is really bomb. It's a really small restaurant, but they just recently opened another branch just a stone's throw away. Also, if you want a front row view to the action, sit at the sushi bar! If you're a wine drinker, you're going to have to settle for sake and Japanese beer though.

Amazing food! The uni bowl and waygu cubes were mind blowing. We were staying in bcg for 3 days and had dinner there 2 of the 3 nights.

This hole in the wall of a Japanese place arguably has some of the best Japanese food I've had in Manila in a while.

I have been here multiple times before since this is one of my brother's go-to Japanese restaurant…read more I can definitely understand why with the quality food, good service and good price. This time the visit was with my parents, my brother, my husband and me. We were served with delicious complimentary tofu with a great-tasting sauce. My brother ordered the aji tataki for us to start off and it's been a while since I've had this. Beautifully done and very tasty! My brother got the chirashi bowl. My husband and I shared the Gindara kaku bento - grilled cod fish, salad, salmon and tuna sashimi, tempura, miso soup with clams and mango ice cream. For dessert, fruits was the other option. My brother also ordered several chawanmushi for us to share. My parents shared the Nigiri kaku bento. There was so much food. The one down side was the fish in my parents' bento box was a bit tough, unlike the gindara that we had. I would probably recommend the Gindara kaku bento between the 2 bento boxes. We also had this soup that came in a small teapot. I had missed jotting down the name but you drink the soup from a miniature teacup. Glad we didn't order more food because there was already lots of food! Highly recommend!

But your perception may vary, as my reviews are mostly from the southern region of Metro Manila. FOOD 5.0 Nama Uni Sashimi (420 PHP) Sea Urchin or sea hedgehogs are those spikey things that I always think about avoiding when going to the beach But, I love them on my plate, It is very sweet and delicate, and it tastes like the sea smells, with a soft, almost creamy texture. A 3-step process starts with a piece of Nori (seaweed wrap), then a slice of cucumber, a hefty plump of uni on top, close it off and surprise your mouth with a taste of the sea. Tofu Gratin (395 PHP) Shrimp flavoured white sauce that's smothered with cheese and lots of it. The gooey feels were just too strong and I couldn't but scrape the pan clean. Every spoonful is a renewed experience, so it doesn't get boring. Assorted Sushi (720 PHP) Their hot dishes overwhelmed our taste buds with clean flavours, which led us to unintentionally ignore this initially. Sushi pieces that are above average in size and offer a refreshing taste. Beef Sukiyaki Iron Hot Pot (530 PHP) Beef Sukiyaki that's filled with a rich broth flavoured by the tender smoked beef. This is a dish to remember and one of the items I will recall and recommend. Tonpei Yaki (430 PHP) A Japanese style Frittata topped with extremely thin slice pork that wiggles from displaced air around it. It looked alive upon my first glance. You'd be wrong to think that these paper thin slices of pork wont satisfy, because flavour is not in volumes, but in density. These melt in your mouth and just release flavour that you'd usually encounter in chunky portions of pork. I for one enjoyed less weight and more flavour. The frittata underneath is fairly standard. SERVICE 4.5 Waiters take pride in the food they serve, we were even prompted to taste the Tofu Gratin first as it's tastiest when hot. They're informative when guiding you through the menu and suggest based on your taste and not the most expensive like in other places. AMBIANCE 4.5 I love places that impress on ambiance and Mangetsu surely did. High ceilings and even a second floor for private functions, this place is well decorated and spacious. Air-conditioning is centralised, which means an evenly cooled environment.
