Are you kidding me? This little sushi joint that could did it!!!! During my vacation weeks ago in Manila and just so happens the condo we were staying at is around the corner from Keizo. Once I dined I was hooked. The food was authentic Japanese cuisine, the specials rotate daily and the portion size was ample for the order. Not to mention great sushi preparation. The staff were friendly and the owner is a soft spoken gentleman who keeps an eye of plates coming out to be served. He is a sushi chef himself from what I've learned and he takes pride with his day to day operation in this wonderful mighty small establishment. When a friend tells you they frequent a restaurant at least once a week, that's enough confirmation of how good the food is. Upon entering, we immediately see four Japanese men chatting away, eating and drinking sake. Again, another good sign. They give a bite of tuna spring roll with a semi-sweet sauce as appetizer for while guests wait for orders to come. I also appreciate that they really give cold towels as done in traditional Japanese restaurants. My sister and I split an order of gyoza and it was yummy! My sister had a bowl of ramen while our friends had a bowl of uni-topped rice bowls plus another appetizer. My order, the spicy salmon maki was scrumptious! The level of spice was just right and didn't linger in my mouth, allowing me to enjoy bite after bite. We ordered 2 glasses of iced green tea and 2 bottles of beer and got a bill of almost PhP 2,000. May sound a bit pricey, but I personally think the price point is rationalized because of the quality and taste of the food. Next time, I'll probably try the sushi and sashimi as we saw orders for other tables passing by and the sushi and sashimi looked really fresh and delectable. read more

I've never been to Japan. I want to go to Japan but since I cannot do it anytime soon, I opt for places that somehow make me feel like I'm there. Luckily, there is a place that gives me that Japanese effect. But I won't talk about the food first. I'll take about what it looks like. This restaurant is quite small mostly with Japanese people inside and right infront you would often see the owner, a Japanese man smoking a cigarette looking like he's lost in thought. Maybe he is dreaming of sushi or maybe he's asking himself why he ended up in BGC. Either way, his face always lures me inside and his sushi fare keeps me coming back for more. What I love most about the food is that it's completely done in a traditional way. Part dinner, part work of art, Keizo's cuisine represents what Japanese food is all about- fresh, delicious and rich with flavor. For first-timers, I suggest you try their mackerel or their big sushi plate. read more

Keizo is one of my favorite Japanese restaurants. The sashimi is always fresh (even though sometimes they're out of the types I like). The sashimi platter is a good deal with Hamachi, Sake, Maguro, Uni, Ika, and Tako. The combination sometimes varies, depending on what they have in stock. Their ramen leaves a lot to be desired, but it's not really a ramen place so that's okay. The winner, for me, is their line of curry dishes. I've heard that the Japanese owner makes his own curry everyday. I've had it and even though I'm not a big Japanese curry fan, I liked it. The service is great and the owner's almost always smoking outside the door, ready to greet you when you come in and thank you when you leave. They also serve complimentary hot or cold genmaicha. read more

Keizo is my go to Japanese restaurant in The Fort. The food is ALWAYS consistent and the owner, Yoshi, is always around to give smile and oversee his staff, making sure that everything is just right. Though if I were to go for Japanese, the offering in Little Tokyo's restaurant is more diverse, and arguably better, but since I live in the area, I'm always at Keizo. The staff are pretty good here too and I like that each meal comes with a small free appetizer, warm towel, and green tea. The uni here is really amazing and also pretty cheap. The uni don costs just over 300 bucks and it contains all the uni you could desire. They also have good individual sushi and the chirashi is really bomb. It's a really small restaurant, but they just recently opened another branch just a stone's throw away. Also, if you want a front row view to the action, sit at the sushi bar! If you're a wine drinker, you're going to have to settle for sake and Japanese beer though. read more

This hole in the wall of a Japanese place arguably has some of the best Japanese food I've had in Manila in a while. :) We had the hamachi head, sashimi, tempura and karaage. The hamachi head was soft and cooked just right, while the karaage was crunchy, but not too hard. The tempura though could be a little crunchier, but it wasn't too bad. All in all, I think people should try this place out. They do Japanese food well! :) read more

Authentic Japanese restaurants make me happy. The ambience, the chatter, the look of all that beautifully cut raw fish. That's what I love about Keizo. It's clean, it's small, it's fresh. It's very straight to the point: if you want to have ridiculously good sashimi when you're in the Fort, this is your stop. There are a few other Japanese places around the Fort for sake, degustation, wagyu, or ramen, but for sashimi and all things nice, you can go to Keizo. Their beef usuyaki is also really good! One of the most authentic Japanese restaurants I came across in Manila! They serve really good sushi and great quality wasabi! Not the plasticky tube kind! They also serve proper Japanese curry and Doburi which makes me so happy! If you're in the fort, definitely stop by even if for a quick sushi snack! read more

Looking for an authentic Japanese restaurant outside of Little Tokyo? This is your place. Especially if you're in The Fort. It's run by a Japanese chef; he's there all day and night. Prices are a little bit steep compared to some in Little Tokyo, but it's definitely worth it. Everything is fresh and they are quite generous when it comes to the servings. You can't go wrong with whatever you order. And if you don't feel like anything on the menu, they may be able to work something out for you. I once craved a certain kind of sushi roll that they didn't have on the menu; I told them what I wanted in it and they accommodated me. If you're a dessert person, you're going to have to go elsewhere to end your meal because they don't serve dessert other than fresh fruit. Another downside is that the space is small. The food was OK, and a bit pricey. We had the Mexican roll and the roll fell apart as we attempted to pick it up. Kani salad (ok), salmon sashimi (ok), mixed tempura (could have been crispier)... I like tempura nice -n- crispy (not burned) and light. The teriyaki chicken lacked teriyaki sauce, that was a disappointment. So come to think of it, most of the food was average. Maybe there are other items on the menu that could've been better but none of the items we ordered were remarkable. The bill was nearly p3000 for the 3 of us and I can think of other Japanese restaurants where we have eaten more and our bill was less than what we spent. This is my new favorite Japanese restaurant. The Japanese food is very authentic, well one of the chefs is Japanese. Their spicy tuna maki and dragon maki are the best! Their wagyu sticks were so tasty and grilled to perfection. Their katsudon is also another favorite of mine, just the right amount of savory sweetness. The staff are very attentive and professional. Keizo is started by the chef who used to work in one of the big hotels here in Manila. He's been here for decades but he still doesn't speak english that well. I guess that means he mainly focusses his time to talking to his japanese guest or suppliers, which are both good signs. The Uni Don is so cheap here and always consistent. What is not consistent is the miso soup, which sometimes comes with shells and sometimes it doesn't. You always get an appetizer, which is mostly fish. The iced green tea is also not consistent, sometimes it is very green, sometimes very light. But the food is good and the service friendly, so 4 stars it is. read more
