I don't review many stores, but I wanted to give these folks a shout out. I was on a long road trip, and was camping at Bay Point Landing in Coos Bay. I was in need of a replacement 10 lb propane tank. The staff inside the hardware store, although very busy, were so helpful! They couldn't find the propane tank I needed, but their extra helpfulness was commendable. I wish I would have taken their names. One woman in particular - made me feel like I mattered, and that my situation was important. If I lived in Coos Bay I would be a regular customer here! read more

My little boy got a new Swiss Army knife for camping. While throwing it into the grass like a pro he slipped and it went into the fire. Sadness became overwhelming. We drove to the local ace and the were closing for the evening as we rolled up. They stayed open and had the one we needed to save camping. Thank you. read more

They always great us when we go there, they personally take us to the part's we are looking for, Brady always gives great ideas for our projects! The prices are very reasonable. Found this ACE store after moving here a few years ago. They have just about anything you will need. Always plenty of help ready to take you to that exact item you need. And then there is Nicky. This man is hard to stump. After many visits he always knows what I wanted without fail. My son went in and called me and I said ask for Nicky. Problem solved. Merchant Violation at Reedsport Ace Hardware puts your identity and general safety at risk. It was very nice summer weather and I was helping some Family Friends do some yard maintenance. I drove down the street to their local Ace Hardware in Reedsport to pick up some large bags for lawn clippings and such. Total was $8 or $9 and I was paying with my Credit Card which has my signature clearly written on the back. Before they would process the transaction they asked to see my ID or Drivers License. When I asked the cashier why they needed my identification to purchase Garbage Bags they told me it was "Store Policy" to verify the card is mine. I went next door to the grocery store and gave them my money instead. I even saved a couple dollars in the process. The next day I spoke with the very nice manager who explained its the store owners own policy and that she can't do anything about it. [Card Acceptance Guidelines for Visa Merchants] Page 34: "Merchants cannot as part of their regular card acceptance procedures refuse to complete a purchase transaction because a cardholder refuses to provide ID " [Mastercard Rules (December 13 2013 edition)] Section 5.10.4: "A Merchant may request but must not require a Cardholder to provide additional identification information as a condition of Card acceptance, unless such information is required to complete the Transaction, such as for shipping purposes, or the Standards specifically permit or require such information to be collected." Cashiers, Bystanders and Cameras in the area can already capture the details printed on the card itself (Card# and Security Code). There are even more complex ways to capture this information such as Card Skimmers and Data Breaches. This is the reason Credit and Debit Cards with Visa and Mastercard logos (to only name a couple I personally use daily) all carry Zero Fraud Liability on Credit Transactions to protect customers should their card information be stolen. Its a large reason people use cards in the first place! Now imagine the capability of a "bad guy" with all the information listed on your ID as well. Maybe he intends on getting a convincing Fake ID and Visually Replicating your debit card so he can walk into your bank and withdraw some money. Maybe he overheard you talking about the amazing lawn gnome your grandmother gave you and intends on driving to your house to steal it. Or maybe he intends on completely stealing your identity and subsequently destroying your life. The amount of damage a single person can do and the information someone can obtain by simply going around town pretending to be you is immense. read more

Super friendly store. Ran in to buy some tools to fix my ATV and get some additional gear for the weekend. Great selection and employee Brady helped me find exactly what I needed. I shop at Ace near my home because these stores always seem to have knowledgeable staff who are eager to help (and they know what they are talking about) unlike big box stores. Noticed a good selection of fishing gear too and they sell licenses which I will remember on my next visit. Easy parking for a trailer as well right off 101. read more

I read a complaint (not about Reedsport store) and was glad to hear someone is asking for ID as I have had my ID stolen before. Usually the checkers in stores never even look to see if you are a male or female. I write on the back of my credit card to ask for ID so they see my picture and verify who I am, if they don't I call their attention to it and refuse to check out until they follow thru. The Reedsport store is so courteous and helpful. I am a handicap person and they go out of their way to accommodate me , including putting my things in my trunk and helping me in my car which is greatly appreciated. My experience with this Ace Hardware has been ongoing. I have bought gallons of paint and hardware from this store, but it is not a fun place to shop. A previous incidence involved a saleswoman removing from my hand an item that I had chosen from the store and telling me to pick it up at the checkout when I finish shopping. Why didn't you pat me down for a weapon when I entered the store? The store's credit card terminal is also a horror show, unable to use without assistance. I decided my romance with Ace ended yesterday when the same person asked for my ID for a $2.99 can of spray paint. You just can't trust those 90 year olds'. I should have refused or just walked out. I'm doing that now. read more
