I have bought fish here many times and never had an issue. I went in today, and spent $154 AFTER they checked my water. Within 6 hours all fish were dead in my tank. When I called, I got the rude old guy at the front desk who told me it wasn't his fault and he didn't give refunds. What the heck kind of business did this turn into? When I went in, I thought to myself, gosh none of these guys look that great but I bought anyway. I should have listened to my gut. Do not buy fish from this store, something has changed in the health of these fish and "it's not my fault" from the ownerjust makes it that much harder to swollow that I threw $154 in the trash!!! I have experienced repeated losses with fish purchased from this store, as they have died shortly after being brought home. When I contacted the owner, I was told that in order to discuss a resolution, I would need to provide the deceased fish, full tank parameters, and the original receipt...even if the fish had already been responsibly removed and disposed of. While requesting water parameters and proof of purchase is understandable, requiring the physical body of the fish after proper disposal is unreasonable. It also feels dismissive to immediately suggest that the issue lies with my tank or tank mates. I maintain a well-established, heavily planted aquarium with stable parameters and compatible species, and I have successfully introduced fish from other retailers without any problems. Based on these experiences, I will not be returning to this business. Not to mention the lady seems to hover over you the whole time you're trying to shop and it makes you feel rushed. read more

My friend lost power during snowmageddon and lost all the fish in his three aquariums. He has been prepping, and yesterday was the day to start reintroducing some fish! I personally don't know anything about fish. The young man helping us was very knowledgeable and friendly. They kind of follow you around so they can pull out anything you are needing, and when you're done they have everything packed up and ready for you at the counter. It looks like an old home that was converted, so there are little rooms and tanks set up everywhere with little walkways that can get a little tight when there are other people around, but it just kept going. Out in the back they have big containers set up with their koi and water plants. They don't rush you and they don't talk your ear off about everything thing you stop to look at, but if you have a question, they are ready with information. My friend is very knowledgeable about fish and says their prices are good. While we were checking out, the owner I assume, was behind the counter and recognized my friend. They had a little chat and he made sure we had everything we needed to care for the new additions. I thought the service was great, the selection was varied and interesting, and I was told the prices are good. My only thing was that the helpers weren't wearing masks. The owner behind the counter was, and it is no longer required, but tight spaces with unmasked strangers...I guess I am just not ready yet. read more

I guess I'm a Pond person now. I told Jon I wanted a lagoon for the backyard -- little did I know he grew up building ponds in the nineties when his dad picked it up as a hobby. How convenient!! Jon wasn't sure about lagoon-construction but he was very sure about a pond, so we happily ran in that direction. Within weeks we had a beautiful new pond that just needed some wildlife to fill it up. Jon's coworker recommended Keller Farms for all-things-fish and we had the best time gathering our pond goodies. The gentlemen at the front desk pointed us in the right direction, the freshwater pond fishies are outside in the back. We were welcomed to a world of beautiful goldfish and koi of every size and so many colors, plus pond plants and turtles. Another gentlemen helped us pick out 9 fish for our pond, 3 turtles, a water lily, some bundles of Sagittarius, fish and turtle food, and necessary pond bacteria. I was really comfortable asking a million questions and so happy to be met with a staff that truly knows their product. All of my concerns about cohabitation and weather changes and prices and feeding schedules and more were easily addressed. And there really are plants and fishies in all different price ranges for many a budget. Our little fish, turtles, and water plants are so far so happy in their new home. Keller Farms made sure we were taken care of and are available if you have questions or need help. Really friendly people, lots to look at and to learn. read more

Today was my 1st visit to Keller Farms. It's not close to home but it will be my new go to local fish store. The store is in a little old house. It's obviously been there for a very long time. It looks pretty run down but the fish are very well cared for and super healthy looking. The selection is amazing! I have 7 tanks (the biggest is 270 gallons ) and a 300 gallon pond. I am a serious fish lover and giving places my business that take good care for the animals in their care is super important to me. Also, the staff were incredibly helpful, they knew what they had in stock, and even offered credit for my mystery snails. If you want some giant golf ball sized 4 month old Gold Inca mystery snails, go to Keller Farms! You will be thrilled with what you find. Also the prices are very competitive. Even compared to what I find online but without the stress and expense of shipping. Trust me, I do a lot of online fish shopping. I am a freshwater keeper, I did see some saltwater but it appeared to be limited compared to the freshwater side. Also, I just saw on Yelp that there are ponds outside which I totally missed. Good excuse to go back. Also not much, if anything in the way of live aquatic plants indoors but maybe those are outside? Huge selection of chemicals and equipment. I can't wait to go back. All the negative reviews on here are definitely unwarranted and deaths of fish in the care of new fish keepers are not the fault of the fish store. If you are reading this review and thinking of getting into the fish keeping hobby, look up the nitrogen cycle and new tank syndrome to avoid some heartache, wasted money and fish death. read more

The owner is toxic！!! First of all, you can't return and he wouldn't mention it when you buy. I bought two beta fish last week, they never eat, I called the owner today and want to return,his attitude is horrible and even sounds like teasing at me being that silly didn't ask them the return policy. Second of all, the items sold there are ridiculously overpriced, same items can be 50% more expensive than Amazon, it was my first time to buy a pet fish, I should have looked more around. I don't know what to do with my poor fish, I bought new big tank and heater from Amazon, they didn't help. Pretty sketch looking place. The building looks like it's been around forever and looks like an HGTV project. So watch your head, and watch your step. I almost fell headlong into a tank of puffers. That being said, this place has everything. Some saltwater (plus some sad looking, unmarked corals), a lot of freshwater, and tons of pond fish and plants. Prices definitely on the cheap side, and they're open everyday! I have been to this place 3 times and haven't made a purchase. Not because the store is hot and built in a house and does not seem like the best place to buy fish. It is because of the owner, His paying method is only with a PIN number unless you use a credit card. To me is the first red flag about his return policy. He is also not a friendly person and when talking g with him he always seems as though you have a problem. I don't use credit cards to buy things like fish. Because he is not in a professional building or shopping center I refuse to use a PIN number on a credit card machine. This guy says his machine does not allow you to pay with a debit card without putting in your pin. Which is a lie, he doesn't want to pay the processing fee associated with the transaction. I don't go to this place . Toxic is the tone of ownership and I would rather not have fish than to buy it at this makeshift facility that is also hot with no air conditioning as well! read more

This is my favorite aquatic store, no questions. Their prices are fair, and their tanks are clean. The place may seem a little rustic at first, but you soon realize that they are very advanced in aquarium technology. This includes filtration, heating, water parameters, tanks, tank stands, lights and even foods. I purchased an Asian arowana at this establishment. It was in good health and I was given good instructions on care. I expected a small business with little to no experience, but I was soon proved wrong with the knowledge of an aquatic dictionary in just a few employees. Many aquatic species are sold here that you could find nowhere else. They have any species that an aquatic hobbyist could dream of. read more

I went there for the first time today. I live about 57 miles (1 hour drive) away. I've been to just about every fish store on the Dallas side of the metroplex. I enjoy visiting various fish stores to look at their selection of fish and water (aquarium) plants. My first impression when I pulled up was, meh. It looks like a ran down house, in a not-so-great area. But, I made the drive, so I was going in. This place has a very eclectic feel. I didn't look at their saltwater area, so I can't comment on that but their freshwater selection is impressive. They had fish I had never seen or heard of...and I've seen a lot of fish! While it is NOT a pretty store with pretty tanks by any means - I noticed all the tanks looked clean and had healthy looking fish. Every time I have gone to other fish stores I see multiple dead fish in their tanks....but not at Keller Farms (with the exception of a goldfish with dropsy - upside down with the pinecone effect - but he had been put into a tank of his own...struggling to survive. :-( I was on the hunt for a Ranchu goldfish....something that is a hard to find around here. I can find comments, commons, orandas and telescope eyes all day long, but lion head and ranchu are a bit harder to find. I was SUPER excited to see the selection of goldfish this store has. They are all outside in the pond fish area (technically goldfish are pond fish). They had so many varieties and colors. I was like a kid in a candy store. I wish I had more room in my fish tank at home...but 1 more fish was all I had room for (without overstocking my goldfish aquarium). My new ranchu looks healthy and alert and ate as soon as I fed him this evening. So, as of now I am very happy with my purchase. Hopefully he will continue to live/thrive/grow. I did have one area of concern.... they have no guarantee on their fish. This seems odd to me. Now, I only spent $21 on my fish - so I wasn't too worried about it, but if I had spent a lot of money and my new fish died right away or was diseased, I'd be very disappointed. read more

While Keller Farms does have a large selection of fish, we were extremely disappointed with the customer service. We are not novice aquarists and have introduced new fish to existing tanks on numerous occasions. We purchased a fish that died within a week (other fish in the tank were fine) and KF refused to give us a store credit in order for us to replace the $36 fish. We had planned to come back and purchase several more fish in addition to replacing the one that passed, but after seeing how they do not stand behind their product I will not be giving them anymore business. read more

I got a water Lilly there and was happy with the service and selection. We just went back for a Shubunkin today and got a great deal. I thought the owner and his wife were helpful enough. I think they just have a bit more stoic nature and maybe that puts some people off. We will be back again for pond plants and maybe more fish. read more

Seems pretty typical of their customer service strategy, based on the most recent reviews. If you go here, you'll hate yourself. UPDATE: The 4th loach also didn't make it. And the Venustus I bought there now has some sort of tumor growing on his tail, he's not long for this world either. I will avoid this place henceforth. Used to go to this place all the time about 10 years ago. Great selection of everything, including a lot of juveniles that are less expensive than their parents. Plus, I really like watching the little critters grow and morph as they get older. I went a few weeks ago to Keller Farms for the first time in years and got 3 cichlids and a couple of small clown loaches to keep the 2 that I already had company. Staff was friendly as always, though it looks like there might have been an ownership change along the way. I was careful, as always, to net the fish before putting in my tank, to avoid getting questionable water thrown into the mix. 10 days later, I had a devastating case of ick. Since the loaches are very susceptible to this malady, I immediately started treatment exactly as recommended on a loach website. Long story a little less long, I've so far lost 3 of the four loaches, including one of the ones from Keller. The 4th looks like he's going to make it, but now I'll have to go buy at least 2 more, as they fare poorly without other loaches to frolic with. So, is it possible that the ick didn't come from the store? I guess it's possible, though incredibly unlikely. I had not had a case in over 10 years, and I keep my water parameters perfect. Are you likely to have the same experience as I did? That I can't answer, but I know I personally am not going to take that chance. read more

I have always like African Cichlids especially frontosa. They have the best Cichlid selection I have seen in a very long time. All the tanks are clean and the fish look healthy. I have spent around $350 on 9 fish and only 1 died about a week after I brought them home. The staff seems very knowledgeable and friendly and the owner was friendly and knows African Cichlids very well. I live 2 hours away and although there are shops closer I will continue to shop there because of their knowledge, customer service and health of their fish. read more

Keller Farms has a large selection of fish , from tropical , salt water , to pond fish and plants . They have been VERY NICE every time I have been there ( and they have had 2 different owners ) , and helpful . The newest owners even NICER than the last owner ,I have been going there for years and have had good success with new fish that didn't die when I got them home ( and I'm NOT an expert ) . I have had indoor tanks , and I have a koi pond with goldfish , shubunkin's , comets , and koi that have THRIVED .. Hoping I can find tadpoles ( which they had one year ) so I will have a concert of frogs at night .. Spring and early summer nights I open my bedroom window , listen to the waterfall , and the frogs singing their song .. How relaxing ! People have said their prices are a little high , but what isn't since the " Biden Administration " got in office ! " just sayin ", Keller Farms is close and conveinant so I don't mind spending a bit more .. So my family has been coming here for years back when my parents were mainly pond people and although it's changed a little I still think it's a great store, the prices may be a little higher than what you can find online especially for fish but I've never had an issue with their fish and when you add in the shipping cost of online then their prices seem more than fair. read more

If I could rate down to negative 5 stars I would. My family and I come here and we've just about had it. The only reason why we go is bc it is close to our home. I dont think they believe in Customer Service. They dont even acknowledge your presence. -My 12 yr old brother went 9/17/11 to buy new fish and the owner asked him how mush he wanted, and my brother stopped to think about it and the owner just walked off. - My boyfriend went to discuss an issue of a transaction and the owner claimed that he was not the owner and said that his wife was! He doesnt even notice that we go there all the time and thought he could get away with a lie. Horrible customer service. . I actually made a Yelp account just to express my disgust about this establishment... Reefers, I hope you read this realistic review before you go to this place. Their marine stock is low - they do not even sell any CUC except for hermits. The tanks are overstocked with inappropriate mixes of aggressive / semi-aggressive fish. They don't carry any macroalgae for DTs or sumps. Honestly, you're more likely to find what you're looking for at Petco (the aquatic staff of the Petco in Watauga is actually knowledgeable). They had a whopping 3 corals in stock; softies. After shopping here, I'd rather pay $45 for overnight shipping from an online aquarium store then go back in. In addition to their lack of reef stock, the owner of the store is incredibly rude. I question whether he knows what he is doing based on the design and stocking of their reef area. I have shopped here twice, and been equally irritated by the angry owner; I feel bad for the young man that works for him. I have previously shopped here to stock a planted tank, and had the same problem. Maybe if you're shopping for a fish only aquarium or a cichlid tank, you'd have better luck, but I wouldn't bet on it. read more

Great place for fish lovers. Freshwater selection is outstanding. Prices are average, fast friendly service. Dont expect the glitz and glam of a North Dallas " boutique" environment, with a bunch of fancy decorations and know nothing teenagers in uniforms standing around. Big selection? Yes that's true. Owner, rude. Manager, rude. Girl behind the register, rude. One young kid working there was very helpful. I wanted several fish from several different tanks around the store. The owner bagged my first three then literally walked away to go have a cigarette outside, even after asking me what else I needed and my telling him. He came back in, looked at me, and just stood there. So I asked the kid for help and he was awesome. My girlfriend and I spent about $50 in 9 fish. Next day, 3 were dead. Following day, 2 more. We have 9 tanks and tons of fish, even breed guppies. My water parameters are 0/0/0 in all tanks. I do a slow drip acclimate on every fish I purchase. Sure, store bough fish die from time to time, but more than half within 2 days? There is a reason they do not give a warrantee on fish AS DOES EVERY OTHER STORE IN THE METROPLEX. Need another example? My girlfriend wanted a background for a 20 gallon long. She was standing in front of the rolls for taller tanks. She asked about cutting it down and the owner said that she could just cut it at home, instead of pointing her to the less expensive CORRECT size for her tank that was on the very next end cap. Manager follows you around because they don't seem to like you browsing. If you tell them that you have tropical tanks, god forbid you step outside to look at the pond plants for example, acting as though you might what, steal a fish?
