It's weird that there are bad reviews about this place. I've been coming for several years and have nothing bad to say about it. They have recently expanded but they have always had a great selection for all species, friendly staff and good prices. I'll continue shopping here and highly recommend it to everyone. read more

The poor rodents at this location look horrible. Terrible conditions for them. If you are looking for some mice or rats, look elsewhere. Store is set off a main road with limited parking in the front and extra parking on the side. Staff is sometimes helpful...sometimes not. Hidden Gem in east Fort Worth/Haltom City area. Well worth the drive from the "upper East Side" - if there is such a thing :-) First off - selection! Great selection of plants, compost, soil, hay, dog food, bird food - ANYTHING you can think of, heck they even had bunnies the other day! The way things are laid out works, plants outside, compost next to them with soil and compost within arms reach. HINT: Go to the back for sale stuff! inside, everything else, Crowded BUT it seems to work. Reason for the 4 starts... Mainly parking.. it sucks! but if you can park on the side you're good. Main reason, almost everyone knows what they are doing... there was one young lady there that was checking me out and when I asked told her needed 1 bag of Perlite, she looked at me like I was speaking physics to her... then she said... "you can go look to see if we have some." What the heck lady! ALMOST WALKED OUT! but since I knew what I was looking for and she did not, I just walked over behind her, grabbed it and came back and showed her what it was. HORRIBLE customer service on this ONE young lady. I've been getting rats for my snakes here for about 2 months since there aren't many options around Fort Worth. I've tried 3 of the Russell locations in the area. Every time, the rats are extremely sickly, lethargic, underfed, or can't even make it 15 minutes home alive. 2 of my snakes won't even eat them from this place. I've had several rats from here that are pregnant which the snakes won't eat, including today, one of the rats gave birth and died when I got home with them. In the cages at the store, there are many dead rats in there with the live ones. Extremely poor living conditions. This was my last attempt with this place. Very disappointing. For $55 for 4 jumbos (that are really the size of a medium rat) and 1 fuzzy, you'd think you'd get even a fraction of what you pay for, but you don't. Quality is nonexistent at this place it seems. read more

This was my first visit to this location. I started outside looking at veggie starts. They're all marked down to $0.99. Except for the herbs, they were a $1.99. They were pots, there were potted plants, they had a selection of snapdragons, Gerbera daisies, Coleus, and begonias and more. It was a pretty decent selection of potting soil, garden soil, and raised bed soil. Fox Farms soil 25% off because they said they were overstocked. Fox Farms is phenomenal product. The inside of the store does stink. But keep in mind it is a feed store... I Expect it to kind of smell a little bit. Tons of feed, a pet room with chicks (pullets), bunnies, snakes, mice. 05/20/2017 Update Russell Feed is under new management, so things have improved. Gary is the manager, and if you're lucky, Nancy will assist you at checkout. Overall employee attitudes are greatly improved. The "baby chick room" is cleaner / smells much better, and there are now assorted reptiles along with rabbits (and occasional surprises such as piglets). Prices on staple items are comparable and reasonable, but some items' pricing is just plain ridiculous, hence my 4-star review. read more

I buy my duck food here and I visited the room. They had maybe 20 ducklings WITHOUT WATER. Their waterer was drier than bone I don't know how long those poor duck were without water. I filled their waterer with my own water bottle and they were practically trampling each other to get to the water. I really like this place but this was disappointing to see. read more

I love that Russell Feed is right down the street and has good healthy plants and organic fertilizers. However, the employees and who I think is the owner are always rude to me and very short. I enjoy making friends everywhere I go, especially in businesses that I frequent, but every time I leave this place, I leave wondering if there is another feed store in the area that I could purchase from instead. I called today to see if they had a certain plant in stock and the guy I talked to was very short with me when I asked him how his day was. He sounded irritated and just said good and was silent as if he was waiting for me to get to the point, so I did. He then acted like I was stupid for calling the plant I wanted "Mexican tarragon" rather than "Mexican marigold mint" even though Mexican tarragon is a pretty common name for it. When I asked him if it was the same plant he said yes, but we have tarragon too. ??? It seemed passive aggressive to me. Who cares what name I use for the plant. You either have it or you don't. This is just my most recent example but basically any experience I have had there has been quite disappointing with an exception of the sweet old man who always helps carry my stuff to the car. I am frustrated at this point as I have been there several times before in hopes that they would eventually come around once I had become a more frequent customer. I am sad to say that this business seriously needs to change their practices and I would be shocked if they stay in business another year without a huge attitude adjustment. i like what they carry, but what i found rude about them was that they act like "what the hell are you doing in here?" they didn't seem eager at all that they had a new customer. i felt like i was being discriminated by my appearance because i noticed them following me or watching my every move and kept asking the same question "is there something you're looking for?" when i clearly told you i have never been there and just wanted to take a look around. i understand it's stereotypical for people who are tatted to be bad, but not everyone in the world is. they need to fix that asap because i see that is their main problem. read more
