I was in an accident and chose this office because of its great reviews and reputation. I've come in for cleanings twice now, and each visit has cost me a good amount of money. I understand that my dental situation is more complex than most, but what has been frustrating is that I never seem to get time with the doctor to discuss a treatment plan or next steps. During my last visit, I was recommended sealants and whitening. I arrived, paid around $1,400 for the cleaning, sealants, and whitening, and when I sat down, Dr. Yaz simply said, "Open up." I assumed she was examining my teeth, but after a few moments she said, "Almost done." At that point I finally asked, "Wait, is this the sealants?" and she said yes. That was surprising and honestly frustrating. Why wasn't the procedure explained beforehand? I barely felt anything being done and didn't even know what treatment I was receiving in the moment, which left me wondering whether everything I paid for had actually been completed. As someone who genuinely wants and needs dental work done, communication matters. Later, I had my cleaning with a hygienist who was wonderful and very kind. After that, I was taken for Zoom whitening. They sat me down, applied gel to my teeth, and told me it was for the whitening process. Then I sat with the light in my mouth for what felt like forever. Eventually someone came back, applied more gel, and started another round. I've never had Zoom whitening before, so I had no idea what to expect. It would have made such a difference if someone had simply explained the process beforehand, for example, "We're doing four rounds and each round lasts X minutes." Instead, I spent the entire time wondering when it would be over while my mouth became increasingly uncomfortable. The final disappointment was that I have a tooth with bonding on it, and apparently the whitening gel wasn't applied to the natural portion of that tooth because it was overlooked that only part of it was bonded. As a result, the natural part of the tooth remained darker than the rest of my teeth. Again, everyone I interacted with was kind and friendly, and I don't doubt that the office is busy. My issue is the lack of communication and patient education throughout the process. When patients are spending significant amounts of money and undergoing treatments they aren't familiar with, taking a few minutes to explain what's happening can make a huge difference.

Many more than I care to admit. I can't say where my dental stress/anxiety stemmed from exactly or how it got to the point of avoiding routine visits, but it did--to the point that I felt physically ill going into my first appt with Dr. Taylor a few months ago, but I had no choice, because I ended up with a very painful, swollen spot on my gums and knew I needed to get everything taken care of finally. From that first visit with Dr. Taylor and her assistant, Stephanie, my stress decreased immensely, visit by visit. Stephanie is warm, calm, and kind. Dr. Taylor is incredibly energetic and chipper--in the best way. She told me numerous times that I'd be just fine...I just needed to get everything squared away and I'd be as good as new. She never once made me feel guilty or ashamed of the amount of work I needed done or how it got to that point. She never lectured me--I'm an adult, and I knew what I should have been doing, but I just wasn't mentally/emotionally able for a period of time, and I think the lectures were exactly what I was dreading, so I was grateful that they never came. Every time, she would just casually and cheerfully remind me that they were glad I was there, and that everything I needed done was no big deal; that I'd be just fine once it was taken care of. I didn't really believe her at first, I'll be honest. I thought I had created so much damage with my lack of care, that there was no way my mouth would ever feel normal again. Turns out, she knows what she's doing, and she was right. A deep cleaning to deal with my initial issues, 2 root canals (one done by Dr. Taylor and one referred out), 2 crowns, and a bunch of fillings later, I absolutely feel normal again--better than normal. I still need my wisdom teeth out at some point, but I feel mentally able to conquer that after all my "practice" here. I also now look forward to the point when I can start Invisalign (where I previously avoided it my entire adult life because I would do anything to avoid additional dental work if I could).
