One of the worst front office staff in the Katy area. I've been going to this place for 3 years and every time I come in, they make me fill out a new patient form. After like 6 months?! At one point they had two different files for me? Pros: Clean facility, I loved having NP Lindsey, they accept Blue Cross, Blue Shield and convenient location. ( I overlooked a lot of things because I loved my doctor & her nurse.) Cons: They have the worst office staff. They will cancel your very important appointment the MORNING OF the appointment & they are NOT friendly at all. The front desk staff will laugh and joke with each other then when you sign in, just look at you as if you're inconveniencing them. I think they don't do their job well enough to have time to laugh & joke. Overall, great doctors, but the staff was enough to make me leave. I have been going to Kelliwood for over 10 years. Ms. Amanda and her nurse are awesome. The wait is never long and checking in and out is fast and easy. I suggest you do verify if your insurance plan is accepted with the office yourself before you visit because they do not confirm your visit will be covered, so make sure you do that leg work yourself. read more

This is an exceptional practice, one of the best I've been to. Lindsey is amazing, and the staff is on point. Sometimes there's a wait, that's okay. I've been a patient here since 08.. the service (front office) was always mediocre, phone calls are a waste of your time... in fact the voice-mail plays "please do not leave a message here as this line is not monitored" defeats the purpose of setting one up!! I've been waiting on my medical record for sometime now.. pain in my a!#. Do not think they have the considerations of others.. when asked for a copy - the clerk ask why - am I changing doctors? Don't matter it's mine and I need a copy. In addition, the are so lazy they only to this activity 1 a month...wow!! I May have to file a HIPAA Privacy Rule Complaint to get the ball rolling. Do not recommend - the barriers in the front office are crippling these Doctors livelihood. read more

Kelliwood Family Practice is exceptional. Steven Spencer, MD is a wonderful family doctor. He is competent, caring, efficient and has employed exceptional professionals to augment his office. His office is clean and blood draws are conducted on the premises which is a convenience for his patients. He monitors prescriptions and timely has patients revisit their prescribed prescriptions. I think this demonstrates that the patients' health is foremost. Amanda and Lindsey are caring and qualified physician assistants. The physicians and nurses are caring, conscientious, and most importantly are easy to talk to. Additionally, we are impressed that Dr. Spencer uses genetic testing to administer medication that best suits the patient's genetic profile. Absolutely the worst receptionist ever. Blonde lady with god-awful make-up. When answering the phone, she does not put a perk in her voice she answers as if she wants to die. When meeting her in person, she literally looked me in my face and continued doing whatever she was doing. So Michelle put me on a new anti-depressant Zoloft, told me to call in 2 weeks if I was having bad side effects. The side effects are terrible and even keep me from going to work. For the past 2 weeks I have been trying to get someone to call me back. I have talked to her nurse, secretary, etc...all of them very "sympathetic" for me and promising to call me right back....still nothing. This is not how you treat someone especially someone who is having anxiety and panic attacks. I would just go to another doctor but unfortunately I do not have insurance right now which the doctor Michelle knew and cannot afford another $100. If you expect these people to care, DONT. All they want is your money. I definitely do not recommend this place. read more

I have been a patient at Kelliwood for more than 6 years. I take a regular set of prescriptions to treat a chronic disease. Dr. Spencer's office regularly fails to authorize refills in a timely manner, and does not communicate effectively with the pharmacy, which then results in me not having prescriptions available. A key problem appears to be Connie, a nurse assigned to manage refill authorizations. She does not authorize promptly, and when I called to follow up, she always blames the patient or pharmacy. Despite repeated attempts to talk to her boss - Dr Spencer, or Melissa the business manager, Connie always intercepts the call and then claims that they didn't want to talk with me. I believe she is covering up her incompetence. It is a basic, simple thing to authorize prescriptions on time. They don't do it right, and the woman in charge of it seems like she is covering up the problem. read more

Dr. Spencer himself is a good doctor, and Lindsey is also a good alternative when he's unavailable. However, the front desk staff is young, unprofessional, and very unhelpful. I like Dr Spencer and his staff - patient now for 4-5 years and pleased with my appointments etc. Constructive criticism - There needs to be additional ways to contact the office. Currently - only phone! No email or a web form to complete and send in? If you call on the weekend or after hours it is an endless loop of trying to connect one with a department. You need to be able to leave a message! Another suggestion - have phone options for requesting an appointment or requesting a refill. Then if its after hours or on the weekend one can leave a message. On Mondays a staff person can respond with callbacks or responding to the email or web messages. New Patients? Have a new patient section on the website and on the phone as an option. Direct new patients to the web section with all the forms to complete at ones leisure - then submit via email or take them in person to the office. Kelliwood needs to catch up on the technology so you are more new patient friendly and existing patient friendly! read more

Two weeks ago I called the office for a prescription refill and as always, this Dr. office only takes messages so I left an urgent message that I was low on pills and to call me if they could not be ordered. Today I went to the office and said I have been out of some critical pills and was told by Michelle that "her" office will not give me an emergency dose prescription but to come back in 4 days for an exam. I haven't seen my Dr. Spencer once in my last 5 visits. My insurance company said neither of my physicals this year were reported and that all visits were labeled "office visits" causing me to lose monies with Humana. My wife and I are looking for a new Doctor. read more

If you get to see Dr. Spencer, Dr. Anthis, or Michelle, then you will be okay. However, you are usually stuck with Nguyet. I ended up in the hospital for 6 days with a full blown asthma attack after seeing her. I told her that I was wheezing. She listened to my chest with my jacket on and said she didn't hear anything. After 3 days, I called the office back and told them that I was worse. They told me to increase the use of my inhaler. The next morning, I went to the emergency room. The fear in the doctor's eyes told me that I needed to be in the hospital. That is where I stayed. At one time, they had a great practice. Not anymore. read more

In any business, the focus on customer service and excellence is set by leadership. Contrary to what doctors like to think, a medical practice IS a business and patients ARE customers. Whether or not Dr. Spencer likes this concept, he IS the leader of this office and he needs to clean house. The only effective professionals he has working there are his PAs and they are exceptional. Putting his daughter-in-law in charge of the office and medical support staff when she was fresh out of college five years ago was an absolute mistake. They are lazy and incompetent with massive attitudes about it and they run all over her. And, any adult professional who is a patient of this office sees it immediately. You could ask these women to breathe for themselves and they will screw it up and then blame someone else or osmosis. Of course, there is the possibility that this rampant incompetence is partially, if not fully, intentional to generate more doctor or PA visits. The more visits that are generated, the more co-pays, co-insurance, deductibles, and/or full payments patients must pay to this practice before insurance kicks in (if they are even insured). And for what? The only thing this practice can do for you beyond prescribe medicine is take blood for blood tests. They do not have any other basic treatment capabilities, including the ability to take x-rays. But, rest assured. They do have "Aesthetic Services" for your face and body. Yep. Instead of investing in an x-ray machine to medically treat more people or an electronic record system that--if set up and managed correctly--would eliminate the need for so many support staff members, they put in a separate space to fight age spots. read more

Horrible practice. Office staff is rude and unable to answer questions. Can't EVER get a real person on the phone. Ask to speak to a nurse...voice mail. Had a message to call them re: lab results...all I get is voice mail. Better off going to the er if you have a serious problem. I won't ever go back. read more
