I had a dental emergency over the summer and they were able to get me in right away (within 2 days if I recall correctly) and despite how much anxiety I get with the dentist office, they were very attentive and patient with me. I actually did not mind returning another day to get my crown. My last dentist had everything done in-house, but after the work being done, and the healing time needed, it allowed for more comfort when the crown was placed and I definitely prefer the recovery time of the dental emergency needing to heal. I did not notice any pain or discomfort after that particular visit and it was a relief. I am so happy I found Huntington Beach Prosthodontics. Dr. Janelle Cheong did my cleaning, and she was incredibly thorough, kind, and gentle. She carefully examined every tooth, identified any problem areas, and took the time to explain everything to me. She never made me feel rushed, and I truly appreciated how genuine and caring she was. You can tell she really cares about her patients. I also saw Dr. Favian Cheong to repair a cracked filling, and I think that's the real test of a dental office. He was exceptionally gentle. I honestly didn't even feel the numbing injection. Throughout the procedure, he checked on me constantly, made sure I was comfortable, and gave me small breaks when I needed them. I also had a white spot on one of my teeth that I didn't think could be fixed. Dr. Cheong explained that it was actually a small surface cavity and was able to treat it quickly without any numbing. He explained everything he was doing and made sure I was comfortable every step of the way. I've always struggled with going to the dentist because of a traumatic childhood experience. On top of that, I've recently been dealing with health issues affecting my ears, so dental visits have been especially difficult. This is the first office in a long time where I truly felt at peace. Another thing I really appreciated was the front office staff. They carefully reviewed all of my treatment costs before any work was done, so there were no surprises or confusing billing afterward. One thing that really sets this practice apart is that the dentists perform the cleanings themselves, with assistance from their dental assistants. Within about two minutes of saying hello, he recommended an extensive treatment for a cavity and gum issues that no previous dentist had ever mentioned, stating the procedure would take nearly three hours and require sedation, before quickly leaving for his next patient. Expected vs. Actual: I expected a routine cleaning, accurate administrative handling, and a thorough, unhurried explanation of my dental health. Instead, I received an aggressive, high-cost treatment recommendation with minimal discussion. After sensing red flags, I sought second opinions from both a periodontist and my previous dentist; both contradicted Dr. Cellars' findings and even confirmed that I did not have a cavity. How the Business Responded: When I questioned the proposed treatment plan, Dr. Cellars called me directly and was convincing enough that I scheduled the procedures, especially since the office had provided an estimate and assured me they were in-network with my insurance. However, the office repeatedly cancelled my upcoming appointment due to equipment malfunctions and personal emergencies. When I tried to reach them by phone, text, and email to reschedule, I received no response for days. I eventually cancelled the appointment altogether, and no one from the office followed up or asked why. Shortly after cancelling, I received a bill that included unexpected service charges not listed on my original estimate/full treatment plan, along with the revelation that the office was actually out-of-network with my insurance. The bill arrived on a Monday, followed by an aggressive payment demand just three days later. In total, I paid over $200 out of pocket for a routine preventive visit that should have been fully covered. I decided to pay the bill in full to avoid any further interaction with this practice. What Would Have Resolved It: Clear and honest communication regarding insurance network status from the start, an accurate estimate that matched the final billing, reliable scheduling without prolonged unresponsiveness, and an apology or billing adjustment to honor the in-network quote I was originally given. This was, by far, the most unprofessional medical office experience I have had. Based on my experience with the disorganized scheduling, repeated cancellations, difficulty reaching the office, unexpected billing, and inaccurate insurance information, I have serious concerns about the practice's professionalism and long-term ability to serve patients.
