Dr. Coleman placed an implant crown for me about a year ago. The implant itself had been placed by an oral surgeon who visits his office once a month. A few months after Dr. Coleman's work, an intense pain developed from the implant/crown. When I went back to him, he removed the crown and replaced the healing cap on the implant. He then kept emphasizing that my body may be rejecting the implant. Not being able to trust Dr. Coleman at that point, I obtained a second opinion with another oral surgeon who specializes in implant. The surgeon told me that the pain is not from my reaction, and recommended a new crown by a new dentist. A new crown resolved the problem with no more pain. I would not recommend Dr. Coleman at all. read more

I have been coming to this dental office for over years. It has been changed with new dentists and new reception people. [[HIGHLIGHT]]In the past i didn't have any problem getting my appointment with my favorite hygienist Cindy. I understand that we have to book 4 months in advance with her, and I willing to do that and even taking off from work to fit in her schedule . But, it seems like she doesn't have enough time to work[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] . Also, the billing system was changed and I willing to pay up front and usually the cleaning for $150, then $159 and in my last appointment I was charged $200 on my credit card. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I found out about the difference amount from my bank, and I called the office, but Ingrid had an attitude with me , and I wasn't happy about it[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. We left this office almost two years ago when they changed their billing practice. I believe it was something to the effect of patients having to pay up front for services and then following up with insurance company to get reimbursement. The only thing the office does is submit paperwork on patient's behalf but the onus is on us to get the money. Apparently Delta Dental PPO is super horrible with reimbursing providers so patient is stuck paying a lot more than before for the same service, at least here anyway. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Be prepared to go down billing spirals with Ingrid, their "insurance specialist"[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]While i loved my dental hygienist Leticia and doctor, Im bummed I won't be coming here anymore due to their "insurance specialist" Ingrid that works the front desk for payments that is just absolutely RUDE/doesn't know how to explain what they're charging you for/just tells you to pay.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Had a dental deep cleaning service done which was explained that i would be paying out of pocket for some additional services. Sure, went through with the deep cleaning and 2 check-ups. From what I understood, they said it would be evaluated whether my teeth are OK after the check-up and I'd be back to regular cleanings based on severity. A regular dental cleaning was scheduled after evaluation and they recommended i am someone that it would be better to come in for one extra cleaning a year that insurance wouldn't cover. I was OK with this. THEN, after going into my first regular cleaning which my insurance covers 2 cleanings a year, i was charged an additional $50 because they actually did a different type of cleaning. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I called Ingrid to see what happened and was then told that i would need to be paying $50 out of pocket for the rest of my life whenever i go to their office for my cleanings because as she explained "you are someone we consider to have something like diabetes now. So now you need to pay for extra treatments for your 'diabetes'."[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Now I'm ULTRA confused because i have to pay for extra cleanings, more appointments a year, and then she threatens me that i don't have to come in if i want to have "periodontal disease".[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Then asks if she needs to explain "periodontal disease to me". (Which no! I'm just a very confused client why the services are changing, i don't need to be threatened) [[HIGHLIGHT]]I then ask her for the service agreement i signed for the bill because she kept saying she "remembers everything she told me word for word" when my appointment was over a month ago and that she never told me my service would be covered by insurance.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]After asking for the service agreement that I signed, she hesitated, then said "i have to talk to her manager that gets back in next month/she doesn't feel comfortable."[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My goodness... The dentist does excellent work, but the office staff member, Michelle, is rude. I placed $250.00 for my son's surgery as a deposit. Michelle later told me on the phone while trying to schedule the surgical appointment that she used $170.00 of the deposit for the surgery to pay for my son's dental X-ray from his pervious cleaning. This was done without my permission, and I was shocked. She used a stern voice with me while I the phone and told me to listen to her without interrupting. She has been rude on the phone in past years, too. I have been going to this office since I was a young girl as Dr. Yabuki was my main dentist and never had a problem until Michelle was working in the front office. She should change her ways or be asked to leave! A sad experience for sure! Soon after making the original review, Dr. Colman left a message stating he wanted to speak with me. After an oral surgery for my son, which was at his office by an oral surgeon, I spoke with Dr. Colman in his office about my original post. He was very kind and understanding. He is the type of doctor that I would only allow working on my dental needs as well as my son's. He is super personal and humble. I will always miss Dr. Yabuki, but Dr. Colman is also excellent. What an amazing office! I HATE going to the dentist overall due to not being born with perfect teeth and having many procedures over the years. Surf City however makes it as likeable as a dentist visit can be. First!!! They never push unnecessary procedures. My prior dentist was always talking about "my" plan. And wanting to put veneers on my teeth I grind my teeth at night so veneers are a definite no no. But the prior dentist kept pushing anyway! First thing I loved about this place was walking in to smiling, super inviting faces. I was incredibly impressed by the genuine kindness that everyone seems to obtain here. It feels like they want to be there and want to help you. While I was filling out the paper work the assistant was quick to ready the room and get me started on my X-rays. Dr. Yabuki saved my mom. Unfortunately, her prior dentist made a few mistakes when extracting her remaining teeth to receive dentures. In short, they left her mouth in terrible condition. He decided to take her as charity patient and help her. Over the last year and many visits we are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I am forever grateful for his continued kindness and exceptional patient care. He was so gentle, patient and thorough. Not only one of the best dentists I've encountered but one of the best humans I've ever met. I wish all providers treated patients this good.
