Instead of recognizing their mistake, they insisted it was root canal pressure. Then, they failed twice to take a proper mold for the permanent crown. When they finally placed the permanent one, it wasn't secured properly -- it just fell off, and there was nothing underneath to hold it in place. No post, no structure -- just poor work. After seeking a second opinion, I found out they had unnecessarily removed healthy tooth material just to force the wrong crown into place. I now need corrective work from a competent dentist -- all because of their carelessness. This isn't just bad dental care -- it's negligent. Avoid Applewhite Dental Arts unless you want to pay for their mistakes out of pocket and in pain.

Although I tried for years to find dental care as through the years previous high priced procedures fell short leaving both eating and chewing to the six front teeth as left and right upper grinding teeth had no lower corresponding grinding teeth. Digestion was poor and stomach problems ensued for on and off the last 20 years. During those 20 years and after spending over $28,000 all I have to show for it is two teeth with implants and a dental "museum-collection" of the evolution of failed implants beginning in 1983 when I commanded the only US Army Field Medical Unit in Central and South America and the Carribean Basin and combat Granada War service. Once the 1983 Army experimental teeth finally were lost in 2021 after Long Covid I had three teeth of which two actuality matched for biting and chewing. I also grew my beard long enough to cover my mouth as to not show I had practically no teeth. Finally I saw one of my friends who suddenly had a great smile and asked where and how much did it cost. I signed up for an appointment stubbornly 2 years and 6 months later at the Porter Tx office. Unfortunately / Fortunately a DWI drove straight across the highway and plowed thru 90% of the Dental Clinic 2 days before my appt. Fortunately Dr's Pournik and Fallah Obed had another office in NW Houston. Beginning with my first meeting I knew my quest for success was finally over. The dignity I was afforded, the professional practiced and experience of Dr's Pournik and Fallah Obed, and their staff and the state of the art of the equipment convinced me I was going to be successfully treated - I was correct.

The new patient cleaning…read moreand exam process was excellent - but, I didn't form my negative opinion UNTIL seeking a second opinion due to the high prices received in my treatment plan. (3 unit bridge for my missing tooth -$6000, one crown on tooth that needed to have amalgam filling removed -$2250.) When I arrived at the next dentist with my x-rays from Dr. Scott Anderson's office, the dentist concurred with the work needed - with one HUGE difference: He said that, first & FOREMOST I should remove my badly decayed WISDOM TOOTH. I replied, "What wisdom tooth" thinking they had all been removed. He then proceeded to identify it to me in his X-ray AND Dr. Scott Andersons X-ray. Furthermore - he said that he would refer me to an oral surgeon for that work - but that he would recommend that I have that tooth extracted because it was a health issue while the others were mostly cosmetic. (Please note that the wisdom tooth was still fully in the gum, but it had opened the gumline just enough to allow bacteria in which had started the decay process - it was impacted and likely beyond the scope of Dr. Scott Anderson's ability to remove it as well). I asked the new dentist if it was possible that Dr. Anderson could have 'missed' that badly decayed tooth in the x-ray - to which he replied, "No dentist could miss that tooth." This led me to only one logical conclusion: Dr. Scott Anderson chose only to create a Treatment Plan based on quick, easy, profitable work that he could perform. I call that 'selective dentistry'. The sad thing is that the overall experience was positive (prior to me finding out WHAT HE FAILED TO INFORM ME OF - WHICH WAS MY MOST SERIOUS PROBLEM - THE WHOLE REASON X-RAYS ARE TAKEN IN THE FIRST PLACE). So, Dr.Anderson was completely content to perform $8250 worth of 'gravy work', only to leave me with a badly decayed wisdom tooth (which if you could have seen it after I had it extracted, would have surely had me in serious pain within a short matter of time) - only to probably 'inform' me later, when I returned in pain - that, 'Oh - I see - you have a badly decayed wisdom tooth... here, let me REFER you to a specialist - oh...and see my receptionist on the way out to pay for your consultation fee!' His office contacted me to return for another cleaning - at which I explained all of this...predictably no one reached out with as much as an apology. This just reinforces the practice of ALWAYS seeking a second opinion. By the way... that 'broken/missing tooth that had created my need for a bridge' was a molar that was decayed approximately 35-40 YEARS ago... I went to my dentist who said only that it had to be extracted. I declined. I sought a second opinion. The next dentist said IMMEDIATELY (and without knowledge that I was getting a second opinion) that he needed to do a root canal followed by a crown. He NEVER even offered extraction as an option! I got to keep that tooth for 30+ additional years! GET SECOND OPINIONS - and DON'T TELL THEM THAT THEY ARE THE SECOND OPINION.

I am sooooo glad I chose to make my appointment here. Got to fill out my information online so I went at my scheduled time and didn't have a wait time. First impression: very clean, advanced equipment, nice rooms with entertainment, and the friendliest staff ever at a dentist. After signing in I was in the waiting room for about two minutes. Someone had just been called to the back so I thought I was going to be there perhaps 15 minutes, but instead the dentist that was going to treat me came out and took me to the back himself. Dr. Sahegin was awesome- he asked me if I had any concerns, answered my questions, and we decided to just do a general examination and figure out my workup. Michele came in, introduced herself, and took me to do my x-rays: some positions were slightly painful but nothing I couldn't handle and Michele was quick to minimize the discomfort :) Dr. Sahegin did an extremely detailed evaluation at the chair as well. I can't express how much I appreciate this as I've had my fair share of dentists that don't answer questions, look at the general places to do major work, and you're pretty much out the door. Amazing!!! Had to get touch-ups on a couple of things and a filling so I was there a while as the machine was making it. Michele even took me to look at it and at the precision of the coloring. It was nice to see everything that happened "behind the scenes" (maybe its because I ask a lot of questions though lol). I also had a cleaning and Kelli (hygienist) was absolutely wonderful. I asked her a couple of questions and she gave me good tips too. I felt as though I was being a little pampered to be honest. I know it sounds strange as it's the dentist, right? Whenever water splashed on me they would dry it off or if I re-adjusted I would always get an "are you okay?" I couldn't explain that it wasn't the procedure that bothered me as I had my mouth open but Dr. Sahegin, Michele, and Kelli all equally checked up on me constantly. I will say, it was kind of nice :D Before I left, Dr. Sahegin walked me out and talked to me a bit before I left for follow-up questions and to ask me to fill out a survey that the office was going to send me. They really care about the service they offer their patients which means a lot. I have definitely learned to expect more from dentists and can say that I am extremely comfortable returning here. I went to another dentist for a second opinion and they warned me not to go back. I canceled my appointment , but they had talked me into ordering a partial. When It came in I went to pick it up, but they refused to give it to me, saying I need to get a medical release before I get it. The receptionist was so rude and condescending I couldn't believe it. I caught her in several lies before I left out of complete confusion that I was unable to get my property. So in recap, be careful when and if you go here. Watch out for them charging you for things you don't need, keeping you there for hours to force you to make a choice you do not want, bold face lying to you, and then disrespecting you if you stand up for yourself. I had attempted for weeks to get a crown put on where a gold inlay fell out and I had to keep…read morerescheduling because I had no one to take me to and from the dentist. I require transportation because my primary care physician recommended Valium before my procedure. I have major dental anxiety. My instructions were to take the Valium 1/2 hour before the procedure. I did as directed and the dentist wouldn't see me because I had already taken the Valium. I was outraged at the thought that the one time I had transportation, I could not get this procedure completed and be done with the accompanying anxiety. The office SENT me to a sedation dentist. and put me in the position where I will need to start the process all over again with this new dentist. Furthermore, since I have been seeing the dentist at the Vintage Modern dentistry for an exam, cleaning and X-rays, I'm not sure Medicare will cover that again. I live on Social Security and the expense of another cleaning, X-rays and a crown is beyond my means. I know I should not have become upset with the dentist or her staff and I am very sorry and embarrassed at my behavior. I was just following my doctor's instructions. I am beyond disappointed. I will apologize to the doctor in the staff. Hopefully I'll be forgiven.
