I called Dr. Thanh's office to ask whether they took my insurance. The person on the phone said yes, as long as my plan was a PPO. I confirmed with my insurer that it was in fact a PPO plan, and scheduled an appointment online, noting in the insurance section exactly what I'd been told on the phone. A few days later, someone called to clarify that while they accept my insurance, Dr. Thanh isn't a preferred provider, so I'd owe a 10% copay. A 10% copay for a good dentist, fine. It would have been nice to hear that on the first call, but I let it go. I filled out their paperwork online. Then I filled out more of it in person. Sitting in the chair waiting for my cleaning, a staff member walked in, spent a while at the computer, and left without ever saying hello. Not a word to a new patient. Then Dr. Thanh came in and explained that despite having my X-rays from three months ago from my prior dentist, she couldn't clean my teeth without taking her own, otherwise she'd be "going blind." I pointed out that she was holding three-month-old X-rays from my prior dentist. I asked why nobody had mentioned this when I booked. She said she wasn't the one who scheduled me, so she wouldn't know. I told her she was responsible for what her staff tells patients. I then asked: "Is this not your office that you own?" "I'm sorry, there's nothing I can do," she said. "Thank you for wasting my time," I responded. "You're welcome," she said. Update in response to the owner: I do appreciate the response. But it misses the same opportunity the doctor had in person: to address the issue I raised while I was in the chair. I brought all of this up directly, face to face, at the appointment with the doctor. The response "there's nothing I can do" came from the person whose name is on the outside of the building. A privacy disclaimer and a callback number after the fact don't change what happens when a patient actually raises a problem in the room. Future potential patient, you now know what that looks like. I have been going to Dr. Kelly since 2020 and got my braces done here as well as all my cleaning and wisdom teeth removal. Her staff is very knowledgeable, as I have changed my insurance due to job change and the process was easy. Dr. Kelly only recommends what is needed to be done and never try to push you to do anything that is not needed. I've been going to this Dentist office since it opened back in 2001. Over the years, I've had a myriad of services done here. From routine cleanings, deep cleanings (when I skip a year due to crazy work schedules), changing my childhood silver cavities to pretty white ones (so you don't see them when I talk), invislign to fix my high school orthodontic work, in-office Zoom whitening, take home whitening with custom trays, to recent cosmetic work of four beautiful veneers. The cosmetic work is what I am most excited about with Dr. Kelly's work. WHY??? Because I have two abnormally small teeth next to my two front teeth, so even after my orthodontic work in high school and invisilign work, my teeth had moved and I was back to being self-conscious about my smile (because I was lazy and never wore my retainers =P). Over the years, I had perfected the "smize" (closed mouth smile) and hated when people would take candid pictures of me while I'm smiling with teeth (since I had awkward spacing in the front). Recently, I've discussed this insecurity with Dr. Kelly and we came up with a game plan to give me a killer smile. Since my teeth were still straight but had moved with spacing from my abnormally small teeth, we decided that veneers would be the best solution to fill in the space. We decided on four veneers for the top four front teeth. I got Empress veneers which are very low prep veneers (I've heard in the past that dentists would have to shave down the teeth to pegs to get veneers on but thank goodness the technology and work has progressed over the last 18 years). The prep and process was broken up in two appointments. The first was a consultation and getting the impression of my teeth. We went over the several different shapes of teeth and shades of white and selected what we thought looked best in my mouth. The installation was a separate appointment and was almost painless - took less than a couple of hours to prep and install. The next big step of beautifying my smile was to whiten my teeth so that it would match my shade 2 white veneers (opted out of Hollywood white so they would look more natural). We used the Zoom process which is their in office whitening machine. I've done Zoom whitening in the past and was a bit scared to do it again since my teeth are naturally very sensitive. Prior to the appointment, Dr. Kelly prescribed fluoride toothpaste which I used the weeks prior to my whitening appointment. This definitely helped with the whitening sensitivity. On top of the prescribed fluoride, the Zoom whitening company also came out with newer light technology that they claim whitens teeth brighter, faster with less sensitivity to the teeth. So this time around, with the extra help of fluoride and new light technology, my teeth did not hurt during the whitening process. I must say, this review is long overdue... I was a senior in high school when I first started coming to this office and now I'm 36 and a new mom. I know once my daughter's baby teeth start coming in, I will definitely be taking her to Dr. Kelly. =) Dr. Kelly is super sweet, patient, and really cares about the health of your mouth. My entire family goes to her office and I would recommend her work to everyone. Thank you Dr. Kelly for my new pretty smile!!!! If I could I would give this place zero stars. I was in the office for 2 hours and when the X-Ray technician came to take an X-Ray of my teeth and as she noticed that I raised a couple of questions about my teeth, she forcefully took my finger and shoved it in my mouth to show me which tooth she was taking an X-Ray of. It took 30 minutes to take an X-Ray from 2 teeth that were right next to each other as the tech was going back and forth between me and another patient. Every time I asked questions about my teeth, the X-Ray tech just laughed at me and basically said don't worry. read more

I drove all the way from San Francisco to see Dr. Kelly Thanh DDS based on an acquaintance recommendation and boy, am I glad I went to see her! Trusting someone to work on my teeth is not something that I take lightly and now I now I can recommend Dr. Kelly to all my friends.It was totally worth the drive from the city. Here are some of my random thoughts/observations: -The office was extremely clean and organized and x-ray machine looks modern and well kept. - The all the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable.. Kudos to Myho, the front desk person, and Dena, the Dental assistant that was helping Dr. Kelly. Thank you for making me feel at ease for the whole process! -Dr. Kelly was extremely skillful and thorough. I don't know how Dr. Kelly and her assistant did it, but my tooth extraction and later visit deep cleaning work were essentially painless! After the tooth was extracted, Dr. Kelly even show the source of of problem! Super cool! Let me tell you this, after the extraction and deep cleaning procedures...I can tell you now that my breath is no longer kicking like Bruce Lee! :) -Dr. Kelly was very sympathetic and always speaking in a soft and friendly tone, yet she'll tell you as is so you can make your own personal informed decision that is best for you......I really appreciate that she took a lot of time to answer all my questions/concerns and fully explained the procedures from the beginning to the end and she thoroughly examined my gum and gave specific direction. A big plus also she explained of pro's and con's of the different procedures that I was encountering. Lets admit it-- going to a dentist for any dental work or a simple checkup will never be as fun as going to a Starbuck to get a cup of latte but when the time comes that you need a dental dental expert to do the checkup, work on your teeth or simply get a second opinion, you need a person that is kind, caring, that an expert in the field to tell you the way it is so you can make an informed decision to solve your dental issue...I think Dr. Kelly is just what the doctor order. Selecting a dentist for myself and my family is an important choice we make. We chose Dr. Kelly Thanh when we moved here to San Jose from Colorado in 2011 based on some reviews we had read as well as being bi-lingual for my wife and son. I could not be happier with the selection we made. Dr. Kelly Thanh is a true professional who makes you feel at ease on your visit. She always educates you on good oral hygiene and lets you know what you can do better in a positive way. I recently had a tooth extraction and a denture put in. To be honest, I was extremely nervous and scared. Dr. Kelly and Helen her dental assistant were flat out awesome, they told me I would have nothing to worry about and it would be easy. I was so relieved after the procedure I had to give them both a hug! Also, my son had his braces put on by Dr. Kelly and was extremely flexible in the payment plan options and explained everything to us.
