We really enjoyed lunch here. Friendly service and hot food! The gumbo was very good and the 1/2 pork 1/2 beef burger was super. We had potato salad also which was good tho I like mine more seasoned. Overall I would definitely visit here again. read more

While in the area helping out a friend clear their property of debris after a storm . We decided to try and find a place to eat. That was open the morning after the storm. Since the electricity was out in most of the city it was slim pickings. Despite the power being out this place was open. Serving up sandwiches, po-boys, fries, hot meals and more. One thing they didn't do that I really liked. They didn't price gouge their customers. Like I've seen many places do before. We were able to order our food and ate at the Diner. So I want to thank them for not only being open that day. Also for not taking advantage of their customers during a time of crisis. read more

Kelly's Diner is a great little local place to get a filling plate lunch, sandwich, burger, or po-boy. It is located right next door to Kelly's Country Meat Block, where you can get some Cajun meats and sausages to take home. It isn't very far off I-49 and US 190, so it would be easy for travelers to visit on the way through the Opelousas area. The diner is small and quaint, with Formica tabletops and slices of pie lined up on the counter. There is limited seating, but there is also a back room if you don't see an open table. You order first, pay, then you get a number to take to your table. They will deliver your food pretty quickly, so it is a good choice if you are short on time. I typically get a plate lunch, which usually includes a Cajun meat specialty, rice and gravy, side vegetable, bread, and a little desert. Prices are reasonable and portions are generous. The food was Delicious!!! Traveling back to New Orleans from a Conference and started looking for somewhere to eat on Yelp. We always like to try the out of the way neighborhood place and Kelly's did not disappoint. On a Sunday most places wouldn't be too busy but we got there right before they were swamped with people. I got their hot lunch, full of flavor and quality of the food is great! Right next door is a "meat block" that looks like the meat would be awesome too. The best tasting plate lunches in OPELOUSAS! My favorite being the crawfish etouffe'. The food is served fresh and the staff is friendly and courteous. Another favorite is the BBQ pork plate lunches which were served on Saturdays. Sure do miss my frequent visits since I moved, but I always stop by when I'm passing through. read more

This place is so good!!! I recommend it to anyone visiting Opelousas. They have everything from plate lunches to fried food to hamburgers. I have celiac disease and can't have wheat or gluten. Kelly's Diner was so helpful with letting me know what I could eat. It is hard to get really good gluten free cajun food! The hamburger steak without the gravy was spicy and delicious. It seems like all the locals come here. Take out is easy here. Just call and pick up usually 20 minutes later! read more

Well the complaint I will have to have is the shrimp is not fresh in fact it is IQF(instant quick freeze) I'm from Hackberry LA why is it everywhere on this side of the interstate only serves IQF shrimp if you want good seafood go south on 27 you'll taste the difference. where I'm from we don't believe in this, it has a tough rubber texture and you can literally taste the chemical in it. try it for yourself buy store bought shrimp IQF and then go cast a net for fresh you'll see exactly what I'm talking about. read more

Highly recommend! We were working near Opelousas looking for a bite for lunch. We found this little place that looked like it would have a menu to please everyone. It doesn't look like much but don't be fooled. We walked in to a crowded dinning room right after noon. The friendly waitress got a table ready for us in just a couple of minutes. We ordered just a few minutes later, getting burgers, roast beef poboy, and a crab burger, with onion rings, corn nuggets, and funnel fries (think beignet fingers). All were really good! The burgers were a little spicy, even just the regular burgers. But one in our group simply asked for a less seasoned burger and they remade it right then. And the coffee afterward was fantastic and served in an array of styles of coffee cups- just like home! Lunches with the sides and drinks averaged $9.00. The wait staff was really cheerful and accommodating. We really enjoyed it! read more
