This is my first ever yelp review And my first time eating here Let's start off with their menu prices on Facebook (which is where the web brought me 2 or 3 times) the prices are extremely out dated First and foremost I ordered the blackened steak and shrimp pasta Which I thought was $18.95 The steak was cooked in the microwave (you can't tell me no better There was no "blackened" to be found anywhere on that pitiful "steak" ~ It was barely seasoned And the price was 10 more dollars when I went to the register to pick up my food to go So between the prices and the food I won't be back this was very very disappointing I figured this well established restaurant in town I wouldn't have to double check my food, Everything was bagged up and tied up so I took it under the impression that it was good to go. There was nothing good to go about this dish. I would've went back but they were closed by the time I got home there's nothing worse than working a 10 hour day to come home to $35 worth of trash Wasted time wasted money :( read more

This place sits right in the middle of an office type area. The building is very unassuming and would be missed unless you know what you are trying to find. There is a smaller parking lot up front and then additional parking on the side. Walking in, the place seems bigger than it appears on the outside. It is rustic inside and looks like what you would see at a fishing pier. Stained concrete floors and aluminum top tables of varying heights. For having a rustic fishing pier appearance, it is very clean inside. Well lit with natural light in areas. High ceilings and an open layout helps give the appearance of a huge place. We were greeted immediately by the hostess and seated right away. (We came in at almost lunch on a Friday.) She seemed slightly rushed but still very friendly. After seating us she informed us she would have a server to us shortly. Since we had a pretty good idea of what we wanted to order, we didn't take long to look at the menu. Our waiter was to our table very quickly and took our drink orders. He was back with those quickly (albeit we only ordered water) and took our food order. We ordered an appetizer of fried green tomatoes. The tomatoes are served with a Parmesan cream sauce. They were crispy on the outside and had just the right amount of tart acidity you would expect from a green tomato. Definitely a good appetizer. It is on the smaller side with only 4 slices, but they are thick enough that you can really taste the flavors. My husband ordered a bowl of the seafood gumbo. My husband is not a fan of the rice being put into the gumbo before it is brought to the table. Much to his excitement when he asked for the rice on the side, the waiter said that it comes that way. The bowl of gumbo was huge. It was very brothy but still had a nice amount of seafood. You expect a dark roux to have a great flavor and this did not disappoint! It had a slight amount of heat and the right amount of flavor! The side of potato salad was delicious as well! I ordered the seafood salad. I was given the choice of fried or grilled seafood. This perfect combination of crispy fried seafood and tender mixed greens! That salad was great! Overall, this was great place for a lunch and, if we travel back through, we will definitely have to come back!! read more

Had an extra 3% "surcharge" added to the bill as well as an automatic 20% tip on a lunchtime table for two. This is WAY to aggressive for my tastes for only average food and service. I don't mind taking care of servers if all is good but this needs to be my choice, not yours. This was our last visit. read more

We usually do not leave negative reviews for good restaurants we frequent often because the managers usually pay attention to their customers complaints, if any, but something has changed within the past 3 months with this restaurant. We feel the pride they used to have is not there anymore. They could serve a dish less than optimal.. you bring it to their attention and they wouldn't offer any substitute or another option and you have to accept that after they picked up the remaining food and billed you full price for it. The server did apologize though for not offering some type of compensation. We usually spend $45-$95 at least twice a month there, depending how many people we have with us. I was very excited to try this place because of all the great reviews...but I wouldn't recommend coming here for lunch if you're on a schedule. I waited about 40 minutes for my food, and when it arrived, the chicken was dry, the fries were cold, and the vegetables weren't great either. Stopped in for lunch and was promptly greeted and given a booth. Our server was very friendly and he took great care of us. Our drinks were constantly refilled and he frequently checked on us. We started with the Alligator Bites and they arrived within 10min. They were very hot and freshly fried. I enjoyed them with the sauce as well. The rest of our food took quite awhile to arrive, even though the place was pretty empty. Possibly because we got there right when they opened and everything was prepped, not sure. For my lunch, I had the fried fish topped with crawfish étouffée and my sides were hush puppies and garlic bread. I had no complaints about my food but it also wasn't anything special. I am amending my review below because we did give them one more chance tonight and it was excellent. Gumbo was hot and delicious and our entrees were wonderful. Whomever was cooking tonight had it together. We were really relieved since we have loved this place! ----------- It is usually fantastic, but the last two times it was awful. The gumbo was cold, etoufee was also cold and had so much black pepper it was inedible and you could see it was just poured on. The next time the crawfish had some sort of liquid smoke over them. It has been great for years, so we will give them one last shot perhaps. read more

We were at this restaurant two or three times in January. We were here two or three times in May. It was always an amazing experience both for food and service. We've been reading the recent negative reviews. We are back in town and went to dinner tonight. We had the jalapeño poppers, which were stuffed with seafood and eggplant and were amazing. My husband had the Opelousas and I Lafayette . Everything was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. Our server was Miss Haley and she did a fabulous job. In town for my husband's business and we decided to try this place. We were very disappointed!! We were sat at a dirty table that I had to wipe off. Took the waitress awhile to get to us because they were busy and not enough servers. My husband got the crawfish. He was told it came with one potato, one corn and one sauce. The potato was the size of a golfball. He also ordered a sausage with it and the waitress forgot it and the sauce twice. He is pretty much a crawfish conissueer and he commented that these were at the bottom of his list. I got the Eggplant Savage. The description was grilled eggplant and green tomatoes topped with sauteed shrimp, two crab cakes and cherry tomatoes. I was not expecting the tiny plate I got for $23. Outrageous!!! There were 2 slices of eggplant, 3 small slices of green tomatoes, two miniature crab cakes, 3 pieces of shrimp (that were definitely NOT sautéed) and the halves of 3 cherry tomatoes (that were uneatable, tasted old) Picture attached. I'll start with the good. Frog legs were actually very good. Tried sirachanaise with it. Quite spicy. ranch better with it. As for the rest it was all medicocre at best. Crab and corn bisque no flavor and thick. Eggplant savage was just eh but was impressed with how much crab they put on top. We stopped in on the way back home from a long weekend in New Orleans. We had the fried alligator for an appetizer and it was delicious. The batter was perfect, light, and crispy! Most definitely doesn't disappoint! We went on a Wednesday night when they have the all you can eat Shrimp and Fish for 13.95. It was delicious and worth every penny. The portion was so large when they first brought the plate .... there was no need for a second helping. You do also get fries with it. All were fried and seasoned perfectly. Second time we came across this gem. Started with the crab cakes with the added cream sauce. They were plump, fresh, and delicious. Two at the table devoured the Cajun Girl Poboy which is their most popular dish. They loved it and cleaned their plates. The bacon cheeseburger was grilled, came on sourdough bread, and was amazing!!!! So darn good!!! Stopped here on our way to Dallas from Alabama and so glad we did!! Honestly better than any Cajun food we had in NOLA, and the service was fantastic! The restaurant is clean and doesn't smell like they are cooking 50 lbs of crawfish at a time. My husband had the special, I got the crawfish "A-2-fay".. it's HUGE PORTIONS and the seasoning is on point. We will definitely be stopping here on future trips. My friend had the crab cake appetizer and a cup of gumbo. The gumbo was very good made from a dark rich roux but not too thick. There was ample sausage and chicken. Very good. My friend didn't love her crab cakes as they had a dense texture instead of flakey that is unusual for a crab cake. A good flavor but the texture wasn't to her taste. The Cajun girl poboy was really good with sautéed onions, peppers, shrimp and crawfish in. Little bit of cream sauce, stuffed into toasted, really yummy French bread - not your usual airy poboy bread. Very tasty but rich. Worth the try but I couldn't finish the half. I'd have rated one star, but nobody takes those reviews seriously. Not only do they charge extra to those paying with a debit card or credit card, in spite of being responsible for surcharges per contract agreements with visa and MasterCard, which is unlawful, but they also stopped serving locally grown/caught catfish in favor of swai which is a farm raised species from Southeast Asia that is raised on human sewage and garbage; consequently, they receive massive doses of antibiotics so they can survive their food and environment. So, for not giving a damn about our health or our local economy, I'm never going back. Oh, also they have a problem with flies. read more
