We stopped for dinner after a long RV travel day that involved a flat tire. Not fun. Hubby suggested Popeyes, being in Louisiana. I decided to check Google for another option and I am so glad I did! The employees are friendly and respectful. The building is well lit, clean and has a lot of parking. But the food is freaking off the chart! I started with a small bowl of gumbo because, why not? I'm a gumbo snob and it was perfection. The okra was fried and seasoned just right. We ate them all! The chicken is large, meaty, crispy and seasoned so well, but not greasy! And then there's the biscuits. I'm pretty I've never felt the need to take a picture of a BISCUIT but that's exactly what happened. I hope you can see the flaking, dense, buttery sensation that they've created! We took a dozen to-go for our RV trip. Now, when we are visiting family in Baton Rouge, from Dallas, we will be making a point to stop here for a meal. Hubby and I both made a point to share how wonderful it was with the counter staff. We stopped by while passing through town. We got chicken tenders and okra. Chicken was piping hot, crispy and had a nice little spice to it. Okra was perfect, not greasy. Saw this place after driving by the area a few times and finally stopped in. I may get judged for this but the chicken was seriously lacking for me on freshness and seasoning. We got the fish and shrimp basket to sample as well. The fish was ok and shrimp were pretty good. The batter was pretty good. Now the real winner to me was the red beans. They were seasoned perfectly! Really wish the chicken would have wowed with the high hopes but if I pass through again I may stick with the seafood. read more

What has happened to this place? The food is below average compared to decades ago. Whenever I bring friends from other states, this was the first place I would take them. I don't do that anymore. The chicken used to have a nice color to it and was well seasoned. Now it tastes as if the grease isn't changed often enough. The chicken tastes old and the color is very dark. It seems as if cost are being cut to maximize profit. Putting out great product will get more business and enhance your profit. I would choose the latter. read more

Ordered 2 small shrimp salads with ranch dressing. Got home to find out I had 2 small chicken salads with Italian dressing. Would've eaten those as long as the restaurant gave me credit for the shrimp salads i had bought. But the restaurant insisted I bring those salads back. When i bought them back they threw them in the trash right in front of me. And then gave me my correct order. No compensation for my gas I spent go back for them to correct there wrong. read more

I've eaten at Mamas for the past 20 years. My last two trips there have convinced me I'm done. Yesterday I order a large burger combo, seasoned fries and a coke. Got home, the fries were not seasoned, cold and not edible being hard as a rock. The coke had very little syrup and was basically soda water. The burger meat Pattie's were cold and hard. Not sure why the place has gotten so bad. Never again. read more

EVERYTHING I ORDERED WAS DELICIOUS! The best fried pork chop I've ever had. The red beans tasted fresh, and the chicken was hot and flavorful. The fried Oreos are so yummy, they didn't last long! There was a few minutes wait time on the pork chop but it was well worth it, plus, I don't mind waiting for fresh food. Service was still speedy nonetheless, the drive thru moved extremely fast. I cannot believe I passed by this place every single day for two years straight and never stopped by. It'll be hard to keep me away now! Nice staff, great food, and extremely reasonable pricing. Mama's has fried shrimp and catfish, po' boys and of course, fried chicken. The restaurant was very casual, but clean. There were several tables for dining in (and a table outside), or you could hit up the drive thru. There are booster seats for the little ones. And if you love to gamble, there's a mini game room (I didn't go in, so I can't tell you much about that). The air conditioning was on, and thank goodness, because it was hot outside! It appears as if Mama's "gives back" to the community. There were sports trophies and team photos around the restaurant. Employees were friendly and hard working. read more

This one IS worth 4--Great value. Their biscuits are to die for- not low calorie but SO good. They know how to fry in south. Not greasy at all- just crunchy. I actually recommend the fish as well. Doesn't look like much when it comes but one of the best, freshest tasty fried fish. read more

Great Dirty rice and a good portion too. Chicken was cooked to order so it was piping hot! Very tasty but not spicy...I prefer spicy but I won't hold that against them. Got a store bought roll, no biscuit, with the meal which was disappointing after reading the other reviews. First off food is way too expensive. Then we ordered a kids meal burger with only mustard and guy tells us can't do it in a kids meal bc the kids burger only comes w ketshup so they charged us extra to do the burger with mustard. Ridiculous!! read more
