Great Buffalo Bills bar if your in NYC, but the games there are packed so go early to get a seat

Though this is your typical sports bar, the bartender here was so nice and friendly. We went here to watch football and had a couple of Guinness. Also tried the chips from Ireland which were delicious. They also have a pool table downstairs, right where the bathrooms are. Plenty of tvs... lots of locals that stop by especially on a late Sunday night. Great neighborhood bar if you live nearby! read more

I think that it's important to list your biases right from the start, so I'll point out that I'm originally from Buffalo and this is a "Buffalo bar." It was actually my main reason for wanting to head out to this part of town -- specifically to see this bar. I also wanted to go when there wasn't a game on, hoping to run into a more even mix of people (though I'll definitely be back once football season starts up again). Go Bills! Drinks here are significantly cheaper than normal for the location. I was drinking heavy-handed pours of Stoli Peach and soda for $7. As other reviews mention, they also have deals on buckets of bottles. They even sell Canadian beers! Another charming feature is that the bartender actually bought rounds. Many bars are moving away from this practice, but I really like it. And it's not just that I get a free drink out of the deal (although that is nice), but it makes me feel very welcome at a bar and I'm more likely to leave a large tip that is way off of the tip charts. In the short time that I was sitting there, the bartender bought me a drink, and bought a bucket for the group of guys sitting at one of the tables. I'm sure they had other rounds, and I'm sure that the bar is still making a huge profit on the ordeal, but so few bars in NYC engage in the practice of giving away a drink here and there, that it makes an impression. And a good one! I'm not sure that they serve food here, but there is a decent .99 slice joint just one block away. The Irish bartender recommended it, and even said that it was okay to bring it back to the bar to eat it. Bring him a slice and you just might get yourself a free drink! Come surround yourself with Buffalo charm, talk to the friendly bartender, and play a round of bubble hockey (something you don't see anywhere else). You'll find that in between rooting for our terrible, terrible teams... Buffalonians have developed a great sense of humor about sports in general, AND we always know where to score a cheap drink. read more

Another average downtown bar. Yes, it was extremely crowded due to a bar crawl event taking place, but despite the enormous crowd at the bar, service was decent, given the situation. Aside from the shenanigans filling the place because of the crawl, I can see Kelly's being a pretty chill spot. They have big beer barrels to use as tables, and even have table top hockey in back. My friends and I had been wandering and were happy to find a bar we could all fit in. My husband who recently got diagnosed with celiac ordered a cider, because he can't drink beer. the incredibly incompetent and inept bartender woman could not confirm whether what was served was beer or cider and asked my husband to have his friend taste his drink to confirm. she then threatened to cut my husband off bc she didn't understand what he was asking. the bar sucks and she sucks at her job. I came here and was overcharged a fraudulent tip I didn't authorize. Emailed management who was very unhelpful and dishonest. Edit: There was no mistake on the bar staff's part. After having to ask 7 times to close out our one round, the bartender didn't honor the happy hour pricing that was advertised on the sign outside, couldn't give me an answer as to why, and we were charged $36 for three wells and a Corona. Due to the horrible lack of service, I took both copies of the receipt since the service didn't warrant a tip, and my card was closed for far more than $36. I'm not sure what kind of entitled and toxic culture that's being stirred up here, but once it starts affecting your customers, it's bad business practices. Edit 2: The owner has now passed on my personal contact information to one of his bartenders. The amount of ludicrousness is verging on harassment. Avoid this place. read more

Kelly's has all the makings of a great bar - peanut butter whiskey, a juke box, and a mural of Jesus with different types of sports balls floating around him. When I walk into this bar I feel at home. I have been to this bar at 6 pm, 12:00 am, and 4 am and not once has it let me down. The crowd is usually very eclectic but that's one of the many joys of this place. I will be coming back to this bar probably for the rest of my life. read more

Let's Go BUFFALO!!! Living alone in NYC can be depressing at times. Traffic, student loan payments, rats, etc can make a girl feel down. But one thing that will lift any persons spirits from Western NY is a bar dedicated to the Buffalo Bills. One of my colleagues told me about Kelly's bar so I knew it was a place I had to check out. My friend and I came in on a Sunday for a 4 o'clock game against the Raiders I believe. I'm pretty sure we snagged the last 2 chairs available. This is a pretty small place so you will definitely be bumping elbows with fellow fans. As a Rochester native, I was super excited to see they had cans of Genny! As a eavesdropped on conversations I heard people making small talk about being from upstate or having gone to school in Buffalo so that was pretty cool. The feel of this place is pretty divey but the comradeship and solidarity amongst Bills fans is SOLID. Whenever the Bills scored everyone was cheering and giving each other high fives. It was electric! Unfortunately the Bills lost on this particular day so it went from being electric to just sad. The one thing I don't understand about this bar is do they have food or not? I was under the impression that they did not serve food here; however after halftime I definitely smelled and saw some chicken wings. So I don't know if they were cooked at Kelly's or somewhere else. Maybe they don't want to sell Guinness to this guy? Update: 9/11/18 The owner wants to try his verbal judo skills and attack me saying he is from Dublin and used to work for Guinness. This being said, he knows everything related to beer and Guinness and says his Guinness is the best in NYC. I beg to differ and resort to the official claim-and he's not there. 5 insulting messages later, he is still saying his Guinness is not an issue at $9 and if I want, his other beer at $4-$5 is a valid option. Not too much to say, but I am surprised more reviews don't mention that this is a legit Chicago Cubs bar. Came here for a playoff game and it was rocking with people spilling out on to the streets. I like how the beer menu is posted super high up so that even with the crowds it was easy to see what they had for sale. Even with the huge crowd, it was easy to flag down the bartenders for a drink. New York Cubs fans (or Cubs fans traveling on business), this is the place to be for the game. read more

This place isn't much more then a hole in the wall sports bar but my husband was Desperately trying to find somewhere to get a cold beer and watch the hockey game so we stumbled upon this place. The bartender was very nice and put the game on with surround sound and despite not having food, he gave us the ok to bring food in from the outside which was perfect since KAtz is across the street. Outstanding night last night watching the Cubs play in game 1 of NLCS. My friend and I were blessed with a seat at the bar because we were there an hour before it started and 2 guys happened to leave. I gave it 3 stars only because I'm not a HUGE fan of this place as far as my pick of Bars in the city but I do enjoy this little divey-ish laid back Pub! Being that I am a HUGE Chicago Cubs Fan, this is my GO TO spot for every game! They also play Buffalo games so my upstate girls make this their Sunday Football spot as well! The crowd is very laid back. The location is perfect if your a Lower East Side addict (like myself). The woman who works the bar kind of reminds me of your funny "I don't give a F*ck" aunt of the family. She's a sweetheart, has a great sense of humor & is a laid back lady herself. Everytime I go here for games I grab a stool, get there early enough for a $3 beer, and order food from their GREAT selection of restaurants in the area. On a cold Saturday night I came to Kelly's. The chaotic bars on the same street were of little interest to me. As I entered Kelly's the kind aroma reminded me of being in a High School Locker room after practice taking shots of Vodka out of a shared Poland Spring Bottle. No doubt, this would be an exuberant affair. The bartender, Mateus, makes me want to lie on my back on the bar while he water boards me with a Goose Island IPA. I cant imagine he'd be into that sort of thing so instead of ordering a "Guantanamo Goose" I settle for a can of Genesee. The way the cold aluminum feels against my mouth is not unlike licking the Metro-North train tracks on a cool autumn morning. I'm watching the Rangers game. It seems as though the only thing more exciting than the prospect of being tortured with beer, is the prospect that there might also be a hockey fight on the screen. Let's not mince words here. This place is a shit stain. And I'm saying that as a Sabres fan. Perhaps it's a personal opinion but I don't think "dive bar" and "sports bar" go together. When I go to a dive bar, I either want a dark, depressing place where people are drinking whiskey and listening to Creedence or there's one woman in her 50s dancing in the corner yet there's no music playing. This gets a second star just because it is one of the few bars in the City that has Super Chexx, aka bubble hockey. BTW, I paid for my drinks on one of my visits in part with two $2 bills. I've visited this place a couple months ago to watch the Arsenal game. It was noon time and the place was empty. It was just me, my friend and there was another lady at the bar. We ordered beers, fries and chicken wings. I kindly asked the Russian barmaid if she can plug in my phone to charge. Everything was just fine until the manager (or the owner) showed up. As I asked this guy if I can have my phone back, this angry Irishman started to trip and yell "who plugged this here!?" and she said she did. Then he started to plug out everything one by one with anger, then he turned and yelled at me; "I'm paying for the electricity!". Well, we didn't end up fighting of course, I kept my cool and he left later on. He obviously needs an anger management. Actually he could also use some management courses. I remember when you were JP Warde's. I liked your bartender better. He left for Sidecar though, which is par for the course as far as Manhattanites go. The old owners let my hockey league have informal meetings there on Saturday afternoons, which was cool, but it's yet to be determined if that will continue. I'd avoid it on a weekend, as is the case with most bars in that area. But if you need a drink in the area on a Tuesday night, you could do worse. read more

Dive bar for sure, but a great place to find some space at the bar on an otherwise crowded night in NYC. Drink specials are good, not great, with the usual suspects (pbr cans bleh) on the board. The bartender was sweet and they sport a cell charging station, which is the first I've seen in NYC. If you're a Bills, Cubs, Tottingham or Sabres fan this is prob your go to spot.
