Wonderful visit! Comfortable and relaxing lounge with great food and beverages. I love that you can hang out in your robe. I had the salt and warm honey body scrub treatment with Natalie. She was positively wonderful!!! She made me feel so comfortable and pampered. The treatment left my skin soft as a baby's bottom. My only suggestion to the spa would be to have some sort of quiet policy in the sauna and steam areas (as well as lounge?) . It can be a bit disruptive to other clients' peace and relaxation to have women chatting loudly in sauna and steam rooms (and even squealing in the cold plunge.) They kind of took over the space a bit. Still, it would not stop me from coming back. Hopefully next time, visitors will be a bit more considerate. Lovely place! read more

This place is the exact opposite of relaxing in every sense! Firstly, it is small and they let in too many people, they have the sauna and steam room way too hot. I have been to other spas and didn't get burns on face. The next day I had tiny blisters on my face (heat burn). because of the abnormally high temperatures. Their cold plunge tubs are not temperature controlled. They just fill it up with ice. Can barely get in cause there's too much ice. They do not have a no talking policy. So if you love hear constant blabber while sitting in a sauna, you will love this place. There is ONE mirror/vanity area for everyone to get ready at!! It is not possible to spend three hours here. I go to Kelo every week, and it truly is my favorite place to reset. Kateryna, Larissa, Adrianna, Catherine, and the entire team are consistently warm, friendly, and genuinely lovely. Whether you're brand new to sauna and cold plunge or a seasoned regular, they make you feel welcomed from the moment you walk in. I've visited sauna and cold-plunge spots all over the country and world (NYC, SF, Houston, DC, Iceland, Russia, Italy) and I've never come across anything quite like Kelo. Lots of parking, the interior spaces are is cozy and tastefully decorated with amazing food and beverage options. Very reinvigorating and refreshing experience but there were a few nits for me. My friend and I snagged an amazing Groupon that came out to about $41 in total, which, for three hours of spa and sauna time, made for quite a deal. We came on a weekday late morning and, while there were more customers than I expected and we by no means had the whole place to ourselves, there was still space to move around and sit where we pleased, but I could see how this place can turn into a total madhouse on the weekends. PROS: 1. For our reservation price, the amenities were pretty good and, most importantly, super clean. We each got a locker, which contained a robe, towel, and pair of flip-flops. $41 for lounging around for three hours in a relaxing space is fantastic. 2. Almost everything is provided as part of the price (except for food and drinks). I really appreciated being able to leave all my belongings at home and just show up with basically my phone and wallet. Toiletries are all plentiful. 3. We did as many circuits of hot-cold-hot as we could handle and left feeling super relaxed and at peace with the world. CONS: 1. The actual spa section of Kelo was limited and small. There's one sauna room, one steam room, and two ice plunge barrels. The day we came, there were a decent amount of people and we never had to wait to do anything but if you come on a weekend, prepare for it to be a lot more crowded. My friend and I didn't stay for the whole three hour session; I think we got a little bored at around the two hour mark and decided to head out. I don't know if I would pay the full walk-in price of almost $80 for the selection of spa options. 2. The customer service was on the curt side. It was my first banya experience and I had no idea what to expect; the lady at the front desk just checked me in and told me to go ahead. I would've liked some more info upfront about what to do/expect. 3. There's only one restroom for the whole place. They have a pretty big parking lot so you don't have to scramble for street parking but just a note that it feeds off a pretty busy main street. All I can say is wow. This was my first time trying out a sauna/ice plunge and honestly, I was super nervous about it. It actually turned out to be a super cool and relaxing experience. I haven't felt this calm/relaxed in a long time. The ambience is very elevated and nice. When you enter the spa, there is a large table with seats for people to sit down and enjoy some tea or light bites. In the facilities, you have access to a dry sauna, steam sauna, locker room, ice baths and showers. There is also the option to get a massage for an additional price. Overall this is a great spot and I enjoy going here. I do feel like it took a few visits to get a good routine down, primarily because of the volume of ladies that are allowed in per visit. My first time in the steam room there were at least 6 women sitting (that's really all that can fit) plus 4 standing, it didn't feel relaxing. But I try to go to the early sessions hoping for smaller crowds and I'll grab a juice pretty early during my visit and then I'll wait in the cafe for other ladies to come out of the steam/sauna so it's less crowded. Pros: love the steam, wood sauna is awesome and smells great, the cafe has tasty juices and food, clean facility and nice staff. Cons: small facility and spaces can get crowded. Similarly unless you go to get ready to leave on the early side, you need to wait for showers and it's tough moving around locker room. It can get a little loud with groups of ladies chatting. They do not have co-ed days so I'm unable to bring my boyfriend with me. The price recently went up $10 per person. read more

I went for the first time this afternoon, women only, and had a wonderful experience. The spa is clean and well equipped with flip flops, towels and robes. The little restaurant is nicely decorated and soothing. I had fresh squeezed juice and it was excellent. The sauna and steam room are HOT and spacious. The cold plunge is filled with ice cubes (there are two facing each other so you can encourage your friend to keep going). The best thing was the people and the treatment I had. The women who run the spa are friendly and helpful. I had the platza treatment which was new to me. It was in the sauna, and the therapist brushed and pressed my body with tree leaves--it smelled wonderful. She sprinkled cold water on me from time to time. And then we did the cold plunge together! This is great to go alone and it would also be a blast with a small or large group. If you've been thinking about trying it out--do! It's a great experience that you can't find just anywhere. This is the best spa in MA and I have been visiting it with my friends on a monthly basis. We had been meeting lots of girls from all over the world who are interested in this Ukrainian/Finnish banya. The services and food in this place are outstanding. It is very clean as well! For the business prospective, I would add instructions and a mandatory waiver to sign before getting inside for all guests. Today my mother and I visited Kelo Spa in Newton. I had been there several times before and always left with an amazing experience. My mother had been wanting to visit this spa for a long time, especially after my recommendations. However, today's visit left us with mixed feelings. Since it was a weekday, there were hardly any guests. The receptionist greeted us with a stone-faced expression. When we greeted her in Russian, she responded in English and continued the entire conversation in English. This was not an issue for us, so we also switched to English (perhaps there was a new policy in place). However, during my previous visit, another receptionist greeted us with a smile and spoke Russian with us without any problem. We were given locker keys, went to the common area, and expected to be offered a menu to place a pre-order, but that never happened. We had to go to the bar counter ourselves to place an order. During my previous visit, the receptionist brought the menu herself, explained which dishes were popular, then gave us a tour of the spa, showing us all the areas and informing us about additional services. This time, we had to ask the cleaning staff where everything was located (who, by the way, spoke Russian without any issue), while the receptionist did not accompany or guide us at all. We got the impression that we were being deliberately ignored, even though we were the only guests there! Instead of staying for the full three hours, we spent only two and decided to leave early.Administration did NOT provided us with a tour incide the spa area, the staff did NOT interact with us while we were there, and no one asked if we needed anything or if we were enjoying our visit. We were simply given a locker key at the beginning and a bill at the end. Meanwhile, the staff were comfortably having lunch in the common area, chatting pleasantly with each other, while we felt completely ignored. Additionally, when we arrived, we had to wait about 20 minutes while the staff were doing some internal work in the hammam and steam room. We weren't informed whether we could enter or if we were supposed to wait, and if so, for how long. No one approached us to say: "Dear guests, we are currently performing sanitation procedures, it will take approximately this amount of time. May we offer you something while you wait?" THAT is what proper service should look like--not guests being left on their own, guessing what to do. There was a complete lack of communication with the customer. I had been there once before, but this was my mother's first visit. My question is: was I supposed to conduct the tour myself and explain where everything is, or is that the responsibility of the administrator? We got the impression that we were being deliberately ignored, even though we were the only guests there! Instead of staying for the full three hours, we spent only two and decided to leave early. I would like to emphasize that the spa itself, all its zones, and the supplies are fantastic--everything is clean, and the temperature in the saunas is perfect--but the staff's attitude was disappointing. As we were leaving, we saw the employees having lunch in the common area, speaking to each other in Ukrainian. I do not want to assume language-based discrimination or any other type of discrimination, but the lack of basic customer service toward us was obvious. We sincerely hope this issue will be addressed, as I myself work in the beauty industry and would never allow any discriminatory behavior toward clients--whether based on language, race, or nationality--as I am originally from Kazakhstan. read more

Kelo was my first banya-style spa experience, and it will definitely not be my last. The vibe is at the nexus of casual meets elevated, relaxed meets sophisticated. The facility and all amenities are modern, clean, and homey, from the lounge to the locker room to the showers to the saunas. The base rate is $59, which gets you 3 hours of access to the saunas (steam and dry), ice plunge pools, showers, locker room, and lounge. I added on a Dead Sea mud facial mask (recommended) and a full body exfoliating scrub (HIGHLY recommended), the latter of which includes massage and left me feeling ridiculously clean, zen like, and disconnected from space and time. The dry sauna/ice plunge combo is the big draw; as a newbie, I did 5-10 minutes sweating it out followed by a quick dunk in the ice bath (as the staff advised me, don't think, just do it), rinse and repeat. It is incredibly invigorating, breath-stealing in the best way. Following a bunch of hot/cold cycles and my spa treatment, I chilled in the lounge for a spell with a cold beer and some Kiev dumplings that were surprisingly good; I was expecting functional, and was met with an artful spread including a bowl of buttery chicken dumplings generously sprinkled with fresh dill, a neat triangle of brown bread, and pickled onions and sour cream for the dumplings. My American palate couldn't quite tell if they would measure up to the standards of say, your buddy's Ukrainian grandma, but I was impressed - plus, my lounge mate who ordered either in Russian or Ukrainian (I couldn't tell) seemed to be enjoying his! The food was a delicious and perfect coda to a thoroughly restorative experience. For those who've never indulged in a banya experience, Kelo is a great place to start. I've been to Kelo twice - the first time was great but today, I had a really strange experience. There was a group of women who insisted on keeping the sauna door open, despite the sign on the door saying to keep the door closed. I would close it. They would open it. They seemed to want to stay in there a long time to chat but not deal with the heat - in which case go to the lounge or out to the sitting area or do the cold plunge, right? But no. I finally gave up and left early. But here is the zinger: When I mentioned this issue to the woman at reception desk on checking out, she said, yes, these woman had told her that it was too hot when I closed the door, which is why they kept opening it and there was really nothing she could do about that; sometimes it just happens. WHAT?!?! If you are too hot, you need to take a break and come back when you've cooled off, not leave the sauna door wide open without regard to others who - amazingly enough - want the sauna to be hot. Sadly, I probably won't be back - too bad, I do love thermal cycling and there's not much of it in this area. read more

I can't believe it took me this long to find this place! My friends and I went on 8am (I showed up at 10 because I overslept) on Saturday and I was worried it would be packed judging by some of the other reviews, but it wasn't so packed that we didn't get to do the things we wanted, when we wanted to do them. Few tips that would have helped me for my first time: - What should I wear? "swim suit optional" what does that mean? In your assigned locker is a robe and a towel. You can choose to wear a swim suit (most people I saw the one time I went did). You can walk around in your robe. When you go in the sauna or steam room, you probably don't want to be in your sweaty robe so there are hooks to hang your stuff before you get in. When inside, if you want to be naked, I've seen people wrap a towel instead. If you're comfortable, I think you could just be naked - Do I need to worry about the opposite sex? No. The facility alternates days so when you book, the facility is only for your sex. - Will I get other people's sweat on me? People will bring their towels in and sit on that rather than just the bare wood, so most likely not. They also give you flip flops to wear during your stay - What should I do with my key? Don't lose it. I saw people either leave it in their robe pocket and use that as a way to know which robe is theirs. Or you can wear it on your wrist and just keep track of where you put your robe. - The steam room has two buttons outside of the room that you need to press for the steam to work. Don't just sit inside hoping it is on a timer like us. Thankfully, someone else who came in turned it on for us. - Genius tip that my friend came up with. By the steam room, there are shower caps. We used that to put our wet swim suits in. - You pay when you return your key because they charge the snacks onto your key number. - There is a parking lot! I'll absolutely go again. read more

I was very DISAPPOINTED by the services and treatment I received at Kelo Spa & Steam.. The FRONT DESK STAFF was VERY RACIST toward me. I was the only Black customer. I arrived before everyone else. I was NOT given the same friendly tour and services. The staff greeted and walked everyone else around. Gave them a tour and explained how to use the facility..I was left in the Receptionist area to wait and NEVER ADDRESSED or SPOKEN to by the STAFF.. Until I decided to say something. This was NOT a WELCOMING or FRIENDLY environment towards BLACK people and minorities..I will NEVER go here again or RECOMMEND this place to ANYONE!! Kelo needs to do a BETTER job of making sure ALL CUSTOMERS regardless of race, sex, gender etc. are Treated FAIRLY and EQUALLY...I paid for the SAME services as everyone else but DEFINITELY DID NOT RECEIVE IT!! I've been to many spas and banyas all over the world, and the wood-fired furnace and heat it produces at Kelo can compete with the best of them. The staff are amazing, and Yura consistently delivers an amazing platza treatment. In addition to the fantastic sauna, there is a steam room finished with beautiful tiles that can get as hot as you'd like. The facilities are always clean, with plenty of fresh towels, and the lounge area is relaxing and nicely appointed with tasteful fixtures and furniture. There is only one steam room and it was often occupied with appointments during the Women's open hours. So this is why I gave 3 stars. It's pretty much sauna and 2 cold plunge pools. Also there is only one restroom. I went on a Saturday and it is was busy with small groups of people. So there was a lot of chatter. I've been fortunate to travel and been to many saunas, spas and steam room. So I can objectively review this place: See my pros and cons. 1.Pros: Place is clean, provides a great place for relaxation, sauna has a modern/traditional ambiance. Russian speaking patrons make you feel like you are back in the far east. The Russian food is delicious, a bit pricey but the value is good. Staff were very nice and friendly. 2.Cons: Very Small and limited for $69 entrance, if you go a a Korean Spa in Los Angeles, Look up Wi Spa this small place cannot compare to the amenities and services they provide. It does not even have a hot pool would be nice if they have an outdoor hot pool. Staff are a bit too loud and energetic, in the Onsens in Japan you'll find the place very calm and relaxed, staff out there are also very quiet as possible. Not here, in the busy times, it can feel like a locker room. But this maybe due to the small space, there is not a lot of space to move around. Treatments are not a good value, I did the scrub, cost $40 for a guy rubbing scrubbing salts on you. I can do that myself. I was expecting a real Korean scrub or a body scrub at a Moroccan Hammam, nope. Its very basic and not absolutely not worth $40. I did the $40 hot oak leaves slapping service, I forgot the name. That was really cool, relaxing and felt very cultural. Do know that the treatment happens inside the sauna with many people, with you laid out butt nakked. Kelo spa is a much needed addition to Boston that offers properly / beautifully built dry / steam saunas and 2x cold plunges and 3x nice shower stalls with a nice lounge + healthy and good food / snacks from a small cafe inside, but there are some aspects to consider as listed below. I'd recommend this place during weekdays when it's likely less busy and if you have to visit during the weekend, then maybe try showing up 10-15 min early and ear plugs if you wanted some peace and quiet. 1) facility is quite small and can get uncomfortably crowded during the weekend: I visited for women's day on Saturday at 11AM. They probably sold out that time block (i believe ~20 people) and it was BUSY as in there weren't enough space in both the saunas and the locker room was a bit too busy with little space and little privacy. They should probably consider staggering the entry time a bit maybe by 20-30 mins so not all 20 people show up right at the same time, and ideally limit the capacity to ~15 people at most. 2) it can be quite loud because of both the customers and the workers: the saunas and cafe/lounge are quite small so if you have a few people talking, it's not going to be a very relaxing experience but YMMV. 3) entry price of ~$60 feels a bit steep for the facility offered, especially given the lack of peace and quiet. I may be spoiled with much larger / better equipped Korean spas in NY / CA, however. Personally I would've felt ~$45 would've been a reasonable price. Similarly, while I loved the juice and Kiev dumplings, especially the juice was a bit expensive at $9 for a small 250ml cup serving. read more
