I am not an avid fisher at all and I felt welcomed. The gentleman working here thoroughly answered my questions and helped me find what I was looking for. It was a no frills kind of place. They were fully stocked and I was able to leave with my live bait. He even gave me a couple extra shrimp for the price. I would return! Popped in looking for bait and a guy named Armin was extremely helpful. complete opposite to the usual gatekeeping of spots and knowledge you see so much in the fishing communit. Not a great experience at this bait and tackle store for the second time. My first negative experience was buying some tackle, and when I went to pay with my debit card, they charged me higher prices, and when I asked about that, they said if I was paying cash, it would be at the lower prices. that felt dodgy to me and I didn't like it at all. My second experience was just last week when I went to buy a dozen live shiners. When the guy came back with my bait bucket there was only three or four decent shiners and all the rest were absolutely tiny. It was Father's Day and my three sons wanted to go fish for peacocks so I bought them for 14 or 15 bucks, which was a total rip off. I've given these guys a couple of tries, but the shop looked very empty with little merchandise to choose from. The old owner Joe was a cantankerous old guy, but for some reason I continued to give him business... But the new owners have not impressed me and I'm not gonna go back even though it's convenient to where I live. read more

I came to this store expecting decent help finding drag washers for my reel. Upon entering the store owner and two younger men were helping another customer and it seemed like a normal conversation. Then, as many other reviewers have pointed out, the tone in the help I received seemed unwilling or reluctant to say the least. I would think being latino in Miami would make racism a little less apparent but I guess not. However I hoped I'd at least be able to get the proper parts I needed, but instead received little effort with help and was instead given drag washers that didn't fit at the owner's (annoyed old man) recommendation. He was also calling out the prices of the items instead of having them pre labeled (sketchy). I called the day after to see if I could perhaps get a refund but was only offered a credit to the store I no longer trust. Why sell something you know won't work to a customer? Overall don't trust the reviews here above 2 stars because they are either friends of the owner or fake. I would honestly give this 0 stars if I could. Spend your money elsewhere. read more

Brought him 3 rods for him to fix he ended up making me feel awful and proceeded to call his employee "icompetent" in front of me several times to make him feel bad.... what a joke of a store..... how can someone be this way?! A friend recommended I give Kendall bait and tackle a try. He warned me not to expect the warm and fuzzy's but to expect great service, a knowledgeable staff, and a good selection - that's exactly what I found. Last week I went in to drop off a few reels for service. I spent some time talking to Joe, the long time owner. He is a serious guy but really knows his stuff. After speaking to Joe I decided to proceed with the service and left my rods and reels. Yesterday I had the opportunity to pick the stuff up, everything was as promised. I also went ahead and picked up four new reels, three additional rods and some miscellaneous tackle. All in all a great experience. Met the young man Chris who works with Joe. He shared a lot of knowledge about local fishing and was very helpful. I will definitely be back and this will definitely be my go-to tackle shop. The only reason I'm giving it four stars versus five is that charges are not itemized. When the time came to pay I was given a total amount and had to ask questions to back into what my actual cost words on the individual items. That bugged me, but not enough to keep me from going back. In the future I will just ask clear questions while I'm shopping to avoid any surprises. read more

Gentleman at the store would not allow me to hold the fishing hooks I was purchasing, I had to ask twice in order to have him hand them over. Made me feel very uncomfortable while buying gear. Sad to see the customer be treated like I was robbing the place. My rating is not about a supper store or a poor selection of bait. Let's put it this way. They have bigger shrimp when the big guys don't or bait when others don't. It is about a place with friendly people that know what they are talking about. It's also about a place that is open and accessible all the time. It's about a place that has ample tackle for the knowledgeable fisherman as well as the out of town or less experienced buyer as well. I can name several other bait and tackle stores in town that I go to, bigger and maybe more selection, but this is were I would go regardless. When other tackle shops are full up with antsy buyers that are late getting out on the water, this one is there for you and you will not regret being there. read more

I I walked into Kendall bait and tackle today, being from out of town I just needed to pick up some live bait. When I walked in I was greeted by a very nice man who's name was tommy. Very well groomed and very very knowledgeable about the product he was selling. Not being from the area he told me a few hot spots in the Miami Dade area . Anyways I ended up going to a few spots that tommy told me to go and caught plenty of fish and had a lot of fun teaching my son on his first time fishing. second time it happens, time to change another spot. frozen bait is bad. looks like they are having problems with freezer. last Sunday I hit a dozen ballyhoo pack for bait. it would not hold on the hook. that's how rotten it was. before it was silverside. old rotten bait should go to the dumpster. Frozen bait once it's defrost, can not go back to the freezer to be sold. I wasted my money and lost the bait. good luck if you get frozen bait from this store. read more

Unfortunately this is just a bait store. They advertise rod and reel repair, but they are no equipped to do such things. I spent over $100 have rods repaired and all but one has to be redone. I allowed them several opportunities to make it right. I am not sure if it is a lack of experience or poor equipment, or the owner Joe, just doesn't care anymore because he is closing shop. Need some shrimp in Kendall this may be your only option. Their products are priced above most other retailers which is common for bait shops. They usually make up for it with Service. The young men he has working for him are super personable and try to smooth things over. But the buck stops with Joe and he has dropped the ball read more

I went to Kendall Bait and Tackle because I wanted to avoid the large department stores and support a small business. Unfortunately, my experiences with Joe, the owner, have been pretty bad. First, the reels I took in for annual service were not correctly lubricated. Second, the fishing line that he spooled up my reel with was old and fraying. I indicated this to him and he blamed it on my rod guides. Finally, and my primary complaint, he does not stand behind the product he sells. I purchased a brand new fishing rod which upon the first fish I caught with it the rod seat came loose. I brought the rod back hoping for some kind of warranty as I had only just purchased it recently and he did not offer to replace it with a new one. Instead, he charged me full price for a repair and attempted to fix it himself and improperly glued the rod seat. My very next fishing trip out, the rod seat loosened again and broke. I have proceeded to take my rod and gear to an independent service shop where they informed me of the botched repair job Joe attempted and just how improperly and plain bad it was done. If you want to go to a real bait and fishing shop without going to the large department stores, go to EL Capitan, just down the street on US1 and 141 St. Stay away from this place! read more

Went here because i needed bait and some ideas on fishing gear for what i was fishing for. There were one really helpful guy maybe around his 30s or 40s. the owner or OLD guy was verrryyyy rude and showed rejection towards me not even kidding and i really hate using the word racists to label anybody but it felt like it took all he had to take care of me that day.. wish he wouldve just took a seat in the back behind a wall and let the other guys run the store. read more

So I read the reviews and considered driving much farther but decided to check it out. I never write reviews but, based on how horrible the others were I felt obliged to share my experience. Well I'm glad I did stop in. Great selection of bait and tackle and the gentleman there, not sure if he was the owner but I'm assuming he was, was extremely helpful. I never fish fresh water so I basically had no clue what I was looking for. He answered all my questions and even answered my 8 year old sons questions. First two or three times, I wasn't even given the opportunity to peruse without being vigilantly watched. I've been in twice to get worms. The first time, the older guy, I'd say gentleman if it applied, asked what I wanted and grunted when I asked for 5lbs of worms and so I left. I tried once more, and was just waved away. Joe (the old guy) the owner is the most disrespectful person Ive meet in a while. He lacks customers service and the desire to be helpful and enthusiastic to his customers. I had service to one of my reels there, and the next time i used, it still i had the same problem i had taken it there for. When i went back to see if he could fix it, he said he didn't remember me or had a computer to store any customer information or services provided to them and if i didn't have a receipt that he never had touched it when he remembered me when i had walked before all this mess started... Would NOT recommend this shop to anybody, even if its your local shop or to buy bait. Save yourself the trouble and go to a more reputable place. read more

I have been a customer here for years and seen lots of employees come and go! His name is tom with a beard and hes the most polite abd personable enployee. He was very helpful and kbowledgeable and i hope he sticks around. Exellent tackle shop with great employees. I stopped going here for years because of the owner and his mustache but i think im going back. Its nice to have a guy like the beard guy tom that truly cares about your needs! I usually never spend time writing reviews but reading the previews ones I felt some justice needed to be done in regards to the owner of this store. I have been there several times and always received great service. It is not often you will meet some one with that kind of knowledge, certainly not at bass pro or whatever large store employing kids who will sell you whatever and have never fished themselves. I had no experience fishing freshwater Bass when I moved to Florida, the owner showed me how he likes to rig the worms he sells literally taking it out of the packet and rigging it on a hook while giving tips to rig weedless and about which spot I should go to. He also selected lures for me that were among the cheapest on his wall pretending you don't need to buy those expensive ones they catch anglers not fish. I have been fishing and buying tackle for over 40 years and this was probably the best experience I ever encountered in a Tackle store. The younger persons working there are also guides so you can bet they know their stuff. I also read some comments about racism, this is a very serious accusation, for the record I am as foreigner as one can be and to the contrary I felt very welcome and the relation based on one angler talking to another one, 2 persons sharing the same passion. Go there, check for yourself, if you buy lots of tackle like I do this is the place to learn to only purchase what you need with the guaranty that it works well around here. I purchased a star rod which has lifetime warranty . Owner told me he charges a 20 dollar fee to exchange a damaged one. No one else does that. Bass pro , west marine and other tackle shops switch them out on the spot aslong as you have the receipt. I drove 45 minutes for the guys that were there to tell me they couldn't help me only the owner could . So I called the next day. The first thing I was asked was " oh are you a loyal / repeat customer ? Like are you serious ? What kind of question is that . Then he proceeds to tell me the fee is now 30 ! Mind you they are not supposed to charge anything ! But I agreed to pay the fee because I needed a rod asap. He then confirms he has the same rod I have in stock but he can't give it to me because it's his inventory and that he would have to order me one! What kind of crap is that. It's bad enough you are charging me to swap the damaged one but now you won't give me the one you have on hand ? He then proceeds to tell me that he won't be able to order the replacement until the fee is paid . Mind you I live 45 minutes away. He even had the nerve to suggest I go to another shop that sells star rods and have them exchange it there . How am I going to look going to another shop asking to exchange a rod that I purchased some where else , here ! Please do your self a favor and avoid this place at all cost! I spoke to many other anglers in the fishing community and was surprised at how many other people had nothing but negative things to say about this place and the way they do business .
