It helps that the store's just a short walk from my house. But what turned me into such a fan is the exceptional customer service. As soon as I step in the door I know I'll get a friendly hello and offer of help from whoever's working the counter. Owner Jim Welna and his staff have proven time and time again they're more than happy to go the extra mile to come up with solutions to problems. Plus, when it comes to product recommendations, I can trust they'll steer me in the right direction. Instead of the most expensive item, they'll show me what's locally produced, eco-friendly, AND most cost effective. If they don't have what I need they'll do what they can to make sure I get it. And these people know their stuff! One more thing: If your timing's right, as mine was on my second trip, Mr. Welna might offer you one of the hot dogs he's got cooking on the grill out back. That's the kind of added bonus that makes this family-owned neighborhood hardware such a standout!

A member was requested to come help and answer a few questions. He came back to help, and my husband was asking him some questions about the correct tire that we were looking for. The staff member became very rude and had a two year-old temper tantrum. He started throwing trailer tires on the floor almost hit my husband in the leg. I walked over to see what the problem was, and the staff member looked at me and made an inappropriate hand gesture of a "crazy" sign to me insulting my husband. Then he proceeded to touch my shoulder. I don't appreciate anybody insulting my husband or touching me. I let the manager know. The only one that was acting "crazy" was the staff member. I will try never to have to shop in that store again. I will never let that staff person ever assist me with anything. That's not the way to treat customers!

He started finding the things that belonged with it all over the store. Batteries in a drawer in one spot. Manual was someplace else. I then asked about the return period and was told you can return things once they are used at all. I left and will be picking up the same blower from HomeDepot today. In a box, new, with all of its accessories. I try to support this more local hardware store, and it is super close to my house. However, I will not be returning to Ace.

My wife and I have been loyal customers for years. We will never do business with them again. I left the screws with the manager and got nothing in return. That's a rip-off! Unfortunately, they didn't have any in stock that day, despite my hopeful pun. But what really stood out was the effort the staff put in to help me. They didn't send me on my way; instead, they took the time to check the back room, just in case there was leftover stock that hadn't made it to the floor. When that didn't pan out, they didn't stop there. One of the employees pulled up their online inventory system to see if it was available or if other locations might have them. This kind of proactive service is what makes Ace feel like the helpful neighborhood hardware store it's known to be. Even though I left empty-handed this time, I left with a positive impression. As you can see from my photo of the store interior, their shelves are well-stocked with a wide variety of hardware and tools. While I didn't get what I came for this visit, it's clear that on most days they'd have what I need--or at least be willing to help me find it.
