My favorite hardware store in Minneapolis/St Paul. Very friendly staff and they have almost anything you can think of.

I purchased a lawn mower and snowblower last fall during State Fair sale. In May the right wheel broke and fell off. I was told no problem under warranty and we will red tag and have back to you in 7 days. This is day 18 and just learned parts weren't ordered until 4 days ago and the manufacturer has not approved repair. We have been loyal customers since 1992 but this store is really slipping and we can no longer recommend. read more

I know we are all guilty of shopping at that ubiquitous big box hardware store. However, when I am not sure what I need, or want to ask some questions, or sometimes know exactly what I need (which rarely happens), I come here to this Frattallone's location. Several times, I have found myself asking a bunch of questions and getting helpful answers from the staff. I have purchased all sorts of stuff here from leaf bags, to paint brushes, to spray paint to drain snakes. Oh and there is plenty of parking in the off-street lot. read more

I bought a home sized drill (3/8) from them on sale. It came with two batteries, charger, and a tough carrying bag at a very reasonable price. They honored my ACE rewards even though they had officially separated from them shortly, at that time. Some products from the old affiliation are no longer available. I have been shopping at this store for nearly ten years. I love hardware stores. I could mill about for hours. I know where everything is at and if I don't, I will definitely find someone to torment (ask). The other thing is that if you are going to work any retail store, especially hardware, know your product inside and out. Know where it is in your store, what it does, how you use it, any hazards there are, what options you have, etc. For example: you are selling cyanoacrylate (Super Glue, Krazy Glue, etc.), your customer should know that this stuff will bond on contact. Let me reiterate (from experience): it sticks to skin, to other skin, and just about anything else. This may be something somewhat lacking in some parts of your store. Overall, the staff does a superior job. You cannot go wrong shopping at this store. If they have what you want, you will most likely find it. read more

Great service here. Shout out to Angela and other employees who are a wealth of information. Selection is larger than what you'd think for the exterior, as the interior is expansive and they really pack it in (can be quite cramped though). Rarely need to go to a "big" hardware store since they have so much here. They have their own parking lot, which is great (and a rarity for the area). Have had a couple bad keys made here and while most employees are really helpful, a few have steered me wrong. I don't know all the ins and outs of Frattalone's, but I can tell you that I've never had friendlier service at a hardware store in a matter of three minutes time. I was rushing in to buy a lock and someone was there to greet me at the door and walk me back to the right aisle. That was this guy's job--to say hi make sure everyone that came in found what they needed. He didn't point or grumble "aisle four." He actually guided people to the right place. Genius. It's actually quite a big store. I chose a standard lock, but they had a ton of others. I was also surprised by their selection of plants, gardening supplies and paint that I saw out of the corner of my eye as I was checking out. I'll be back when I get around to my planting. That's another thing! At the checkout, I was putting my wallet away and the clerk asked me if I wanted help opening the lock up (it was packaged in that hard plastic that is hard to breach without a pair of scissors. This Frattalone's is nothing like what you would expect from the name. They close early, deny entry with s locked door even when there are still customers in the store. This works for big stores like a big box store but totally contradicts the claim of being a neighborhood store. They are nice to my dog and give her treats but Bryant hardware is close enough that I'm going to make the 100% switch after this last experience of rudeness at 5:55 at the Hennepin Ace. Can't imagine the bun bakery or Corner Coffee locking the door on a customer before closing time. read more

My first visit was very short, I only needed key copies, but the staff was quick to help me, seconds after I stood in front of the keys, Unlike other copies I've had made elsewhere, these work perfectly. I was also intrigued by the old fashioned pop varieties behind me and picked one to try that I'd never had even though I'm old :-) I don't live near this store, but it is close enough to one of my other regular stops that it can be my hardware store, and better here than Mal-Wart! read more

I love this hardware store, and that's coming from a woman who is not "handy" or "hardwar-ish" at all. LOL The store is clean, well-lit, and fairly large. The last time I was here was to rent a Rug Doctor to clean the carpet of an apartment I was vacating. The process went smoothly, and the associates are always very courteous, helpful, and professional. I think you can find just about anything you need here, from toilet paper to shop towels, paint, brushes, lawn and garden. Any store located on Hennepin is subject to high traffic, but thankfully, there is a private parking lot as well as parking available on the street. I will definitely return here again for my "hardware-y" needs. :) read more

OK, I don't have enough positive adjectives to describe Frattalone's. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I walk into this place I am astonished at how wonderful, knowledgeable and friendly the staff is; they never, ever disappoint. My last visit was a couple days ago - as I walked up one of the kind employees opened the door for me, asking what he could help me find; I pulled out my trusty list and off we went. When I pulled out my reusable bag to carry my items the gentleman instead grabbed a basket and offered to carry it around the store for me while we found the items I needed. I also needed some specialty things cut. I got a tour of the basement to check out various options. While he cut my plastic he told me to check out the scraps to see if anything could fit my needs, I found some scraps that worked and they were gratis. I seriously cannot say enough wonderful things about this place. I will spend every $ I have at this place over a big box store any day, even if it costs me a little bit more. The customer service is worth every penny - plus they have a phenomenal rewards program! It is the little things that keep me coming back somewhere and recommending a place to others. Two Starship Trooper-esque wars have been fought during my three year stay in my apartment. Following each victory, I've been able to raise my arms and happily pump my fists high towards the heavens to celebrate my supremacy over these devilish pests thanks to the awesome people and products at Frattalone's Ace Hardware. Where else could I conveniently load up on bug-weaponry, like insecticides, fly swatters, stick traps, and face masks, to help me vanquish these annoying nasties? Actually, probably a lot of places, but the people there rock. So yeah... ***** Chapter One: Battle Of The Nasty Gnats When my girlfriend introduced a "Lucky Plant" in to our home, it, ironically, was the beginning of my path to insanity. Luck my ass. The very next day, I was in for a big surprise when I exited my bedroom to witness swarms of coordinated and dirty gnats. Despite my constant killing and cleaning, THEY. KEPT. COMING. BACK and spawned every ten minutes or so like bad guys in Contra or those evil fur-balls in the movie Gremlins. My gnat problem became so bad that I would wakeup every morning to find my white windows and lamps literally covered in a sheet of moving black gnats. Gahhhhh! *****Takes cold shower.***** A pest inspector came, and he concluded that these vermin laid their disgusting blue eggs in the soil. He said that I have to change the soil, so off to Ace Hardware I went. While there, I grabbed some potting and cleaning supplies. After a day of cleaning and re-soiling, my issue was immediately resolved. Gnats destroyed. Game: Blouses. My apartment then experienced months of peace and prosperity. Quadruple rainbow. Chapter Two: Fight Of The Furious Flies Even though the summer winds can make my top floor apartment feel like a microwave, I still enjoy propping my windows open to let fresh air through. Several days ago, several flies happened to sneak through one of my screens and laid their gross eggs near my recycling. During the first day, I was helpless. I roamed my apartment like a mad man swatting down flies with a dwindled paper towel roll in one hand, and shooting them down with organic cleaning solution (that really didn't do much) in the other. The first day, I murdered about 12 of those suckas. The next, 20. Then yesterday, after starting off my morning killing 5, I had enough. I drove over to Ace and bought about $70 worth of fly-killer weapons and returned to my home to reclaim my rightful Kingdom. Them b****** ain't $****. I've always had pretty positive experiences here. The employees almost always ask if I need help with anything as soon as I walk in the door, and they are knowledgable about what they sell. So I thought, yep, cool, Ace is the place! Today's experience TAKES THE CAKE as the best visit yet. I was looking for a couple of things and an employee was helping me decide what I needed to buy. Today is a very, very, very hot day and I ended up ranting about my work with young children and the lack of air conditioning. After my lengthy complaining session, the employee suggested that I take a seat in one of the store's camping chairs that were for sale and enjoy an Sqwincher Sqweeze (aka ice pop/ Icee/ Mr. Freezie). I took a seat to relax and cool off for a minute, and he BRINGS THE ICEE TO ME and cuts off the end with a pair of scissors. So, not only did I leave the store with the things I needed after being given some informed advice, I was also treated like a popsicle princess. (And the Sqwincher was only 49 cents!) read more

I was so excited for Frattalone's to open shop, since living in uptown without a car has made it difficult to get to a hardware store. They did not disappoint! My main focus in home improvement has recently been painting, and Frattalone's can match any sample you bring in - or at least get pretty close. I brought in a sample of a Benjamin Moore color and when it wasn't exactly what I expected, the employees worked patiently with me until I was comfortable with the color, giving me the formula in case I should need to come back for more (and aptly naming it "Emma's Blend"). Everyone is so friendly, I always get greeted at the door and asked if I need any help, and everyone has been so knowledgeable about what products I should use and where I can find it. I will definitely be frequenting this location while I make my apartment a home. read more

Ah, my local hardware store. Ace was totally there for me when I needed some extra tools for putting together Ikea furniture when I moved in, and when I needed a new copy of my house key. Ace was also able to help me when I needed random things for around the house including: ice melt, a snow shovel, extension cords, command hooks, packing tape, small terra cotta pots, and potting soil. As far as hardware stores go, the size and location of this one means you're not always going to find everything you'd find at a huge store here, that it might not always be the cheapest place to get something, and that parking might not always be convenient. But it also means I can walk here from my apartment and get something I might otherwise get from Amazon or Target (if they have it) in about 20 minutes. And to be clear, sometimes, there aren't 8 different types of brooms (or whatever you might be looking for) to choose from the way there might be other places. But there's usually at least one or two options, and a friendly employee to help you find them quickly and make a recommendation. There have been a couple of times where employees have been incredibly helpful and I wish I remembered the name of the individuals who helped me by cutting a large dowel into the size I needed, and the one who was able to give me some boxes from their recycling. Even though these awesome people were outnumbered by the three different key makers who weren't able to make a copy of mine successfully, I think for a small hardware store, this Ace is doing a great job. read more

Frattalone's Ace Hardware is a great store- but the customer service really puts it on top! I've been a couple times- first to get an older key made that a few other stores hadn't been able to do. They have a good variety of choices for the size of the store- lots of bathroom fixtures, kitchen items, lights, etc. The staff is always friendly and informative but today they really BLEW ME AWAY! I pulled into one of the parking spaces on the street right in front of Frattalone's on my way to the UPS Store. I hopped out of the car with my tote bag full of packages only to realize I had parked in a puddle big enough to deserve a spot on the map. I was debating how to get to the sidewalk when an employee came out of Frattalone's to offer assistance. He leaned out and grabbed my hand as I did my best ballet leap across the lake (err puddle). I surely would have landed in the puddle without him flinging me the rest of the way. Wow! That's some friendly! I know where I'll be going next time I need keys. read more

If I wrote a review for all the times I gave ACE five stars it would likely be once a week and I'm not exaggerating! I love having a shop in the neighborhood where every single person who works there is joyful. Pleasant and knowledGable! I love coming here! All of the managers and assistant managers have gone above and beyond in terms of customer service. They ALWAYS help me find what I am looking for and I never leave wishing ACE would have had something that I need. Nate seems to be there every time I am there and is fabulous!! Also Braden (sp) made keys for me that actually fit when people at Menards and Home Depot had failed. As I already said I love this ACE! Excellent customer service EVERY. TIME. I could give countless examples. I once had a staff helping me choose screws for a project. She asked if I had an electric screwdriver. I answered yes. She asked if I knew what size or type of heads it had. I wasn't sure. She wanted to make sure I could complete the project so she went into a back employee room and returned with the screw head the size that fit the screws I was buying. She insisted I take it free of charge. Another time the staff helped me find the bulb I needed to replace in the headlight attached to my bike AND he installed it for me right there in the store. I wasn't sure I had the types and sizes of tools needed to do it myself (a specific allen wrench size and tiny screwdriver). For a person living in a small space with limited room to store tools and supplies, and with a small budget to invest in tools and supplies for DIY projects, complimentary parts and labor are very much appreciated. read more

As a general rule I enjoy this little neighborhood store- usually great service, friendly staff. However, tonight I stoped in to pick up some greenery for Holiday decorating, I had a coupon (on my phone ) and they wouldn't accept it. Said it had to be printed ! Why would I waste a piece of paper to print something that can easily be scanned off a Phone. It's almost 2019, you are a small business and should work to make it easier for customers to shop with you. Down two stars for the way this was handled tonight. read more

Frattalone's is literally around the corner from my awesome-but-needs-a-lot-of-work apartment. We've been in and out of here almost 2 or 3 times a week for every manner of house maintenance issue: plumbing, painting, making keys, gardening, electrical, hardware. Seriously, everything. Every time we come in we're greeted (with a "Welcome back!" most times) and they have a super well trained knowledgeable staff who are able to answer questions and direct you to your desired items. They really blew us away this last week when they proceeded to walk us around the store (to almost every department) to point out the item that we asked to find. They're just about the friendliest, most helpful hardware employees I've met. When they can't get something for you (they didn't have the blank for one of the keys we needed copied) they'll point you in the right direction. Yes, you'll be paying (a little, not a lot) more than you might at the depot. But the convenience and the service are well worth it. read more

Tired of scouring for some elusive item at the labyrinth of big box mega stores? You know how it is, you are looking for paper towels. You've walked down the paper towels aisle eleven times, but all you see are Elvis dolls on clearance. Finding an employee in these mega box stores is harder than finding Sasquatch. If you do happen to find one they usually don't know where the paper towels are anyway. You know how it feels. I know you know. Well now I want you to imagine the complete opposite. Yes, the second you walk in, someone will be there asking you what you are looking for, then they will take you there, immediately. Working on a project? Ask them for advice and they will probably know exactly what you mean or need. I came here once trying to build a robot costume and they really knew their robo-stuff. They also have EVERYTHING here. Or almost everything. I don' t think they sell pink pajamas. It would be a crime to give this place less than 5 stars. I wish more businesses were this attentive, friendly, and eager. I really like this hardware store. The staff is always super friendly and ready to help (even though they know me now as the lady who buys shit tons of canning jars...). They really have a lot packed into one small space; if you can't find it here, you might not really need it (although, that said, they have everything for canning... except a canner). I feel a lot more secure in the world knowing that competent hardware chaps are just down the street for when I inevitably need some inscrutable tool or handy item. read more

We ordered 10 cases of canning jars online, to be delivered to and picked up at our nearest Ace location, which would be Frattalone's. Our account was charged once the jars shipped. My fiance called multiple times, asking if our jars were in, and was told no each time. Finally, he went in to see if they were in. They were....and they were on the shelf, for other people to buy. They received our order, that we PAID FOR, but never called us, lied to us when we called, then tried to resell merchandise that was already paid for. The manager was unable to explain why this happened. We won't be shopping there again. The ONLY reason they get a second star is because the jars were so cheap. We should have just made the trip to Fleet Farm. read more

Absolutely love how helpful these guys are during my remodel. From help with hard to find screws for those out of date hinges, to the perfect paint for my walls (kids love purple). I recommend them for all your hardware needs, and I never had a single issue with the keys they made. I own real estate units, and having keys that work the first time is important. The Home Depot and Walmart are way less reliable for key cutting. read more

I'm kind of shocked by any negative reviews, they are rock stars in my opinion, and I absolutely, positively hate shopping. I love it here because they make shopping as quick and painless as possible. "Can I help you?" are sweet words to my ear when I walk in and I take them up on it to get done with shopping as soon as possible. Yeah, you might hear that at Home Depot, but 25 minutes later you are standing in a checkout line that they are trying to automate to hire less people. Frattalone's always has enough employees to help everyone. Once in a blue moon you may have to wait a bit. Yes they may take your backpack (I'm a biker, never bothers me). And yes employees deserve to get home at a reasonable hour so if they close their doors 5 minutes before close, bummer, but I get it. So keep it up folks, you're awesome, and I don't write reviews very often!! read more

I do love this place so. Always friendly, always helpful, if they don't have it (rare) they know where I can get it. Convenient to us. Haven't been to The Home Despot in years (and I don't miss it). Awesome local business. Great and helpful staff. It's a hardware store, so with the amount and variation of stuff they have in stock, it can be difficult to find what you're looking for. Every single time I've been there I've been asked, within seconds of walking in the door, if I need help finding something. Invariably, I do. And since I doubt they make commission off the $1.50 washer package I bought, they're not pushy, just helpful. Good place, good location read more

This place is fantastic! From T.J. who fixed our screens to Mike who helped me find the supplies I needed to repaint a desk (and also gave me tips on how to do it), everyone is extremely helpful and friendly. They are also creative--when I come in with some project idea, or needing to recreate a missing part for something, staff members here have great suggestions and go out of their way to put something together, even if I only end up spending $2 on screws and a little piece of metal. They are also always helping you find the cheapest way to do your project, rather than trying to upsell you. And, they adjusted the shoddy job another locksmith had done on our keys for free! As long as I live here I will be a returning customer. read more

I walked in and was asked by an employee if they could help me. I said no. From then until the time I left I was asked at least 6 more times if someone could help me, in spite of finally yelling at one of the employees who asked me twice in a row, after which I was asked twice more by other employees. The employees in the store had to have outnumbered the customers three-to-one, it was incredibly oppressive. It is nice to have help available if you need it, but these people go entirely too far. A better way to maintain a high level of service without being ridiculous would be to ask customers as they come in, and then have employees make themselves available to help customers. If I need help, I will ask! Sometimes I want to browse or do things on my own, I don't feel like I can do that here. From now on I will be going to a different hardware store, although probably another Ace since I often require the expansive collection of nuts and bolts they carry. The aisles were also incredibly tight. I'm surprised there isn't some sort of code prohibiting stores from being configured in this way. I would avoid this store if I were averse to tight spaces, in a wheel-chair/using a walker, or even much above average girth. I'm not a claustrophobic person, but between the constant harassment and the tight aisles I left the place feeling unbelievably flustered, in spite of the fact that I spent less than 15 minutes in the store. If you would like to have a personal shopper find the items you need for you and don't mind the tight aisles, this store would be ideal for small hardware needs. It is also worth noting that it is in a convenient location for a lot of people and has an expansive selection of nuts and bolts in small quantities. Their nut/bolt selection is the only reason this was not a one-star review. read more

By the time I walked over there was someone there waiting to make me a key. 30 seconds and $2.14 later I was out the door on my way. Couldn't be happier! Great neighborhood business. read more
