With appropriately priced items and a very good customer service, Ace Hardware on grand beats taking the trip to Menards/Home Depot, at least when it comes to smaller hardware needs. Unlike Menards and Home Depot, Ace hardware sends regular coupons if you are a member of the store, the also have a lot of times good sales on their merchandises as well. The staff is very helpful and polite and will try to help you out with your project as much as they are able to. Interestingly I lost the key to my lock for my suit case and they broke the lock for me for free there (though usually they charge for it) All in all it is a pretty cool shop and I highly recommend it. read more

Frattallones on Grand continues to be a disappointment. The people are not helpful and act as if it is an inconvenience to show a customer where something exists. Their knowledge about any type of maintenance is minimal. I do not recommend this hardware store. You will do better with AI and Menard's. read more

Service and products you can trust. Such a well-stocked store it rivals Target. I needed to replace the license plate mouting screws on my car and was without a screwdriver and during street construction had to park 1+ blocks away. The associate helping me loaned me a screwdriver so I could get the proper replacements and be on my way with new plates. Made my day! read more

Frattalone's Ace Hardware is in a myriad of places ... this review is for their store on Grand just west of Snelling ... formerly Grand Avenue Ace Hardware. When we lived in the Mac-Groveland area and in an older home, we quickly threw ourselves to the mercy of the staff at Grand Avenue Ace Hardware. They were knowledgeable, helpful and often recommended alternatives that more often than not worked and were cheaper than my original plan to repair/modify/install something. However, for a combination of factors, the owners had to sell and the store was bought by Frattalone. I feared it would become a clone of its suburban brethren and lose its quirkiness and helpfulness. Both of my sons have homes in the same general area now and from time to time, I've re-visited the Frattalone's on Grand ... and have been very pleased to discover that they're pretty much the same as before. Still helpful, willing to extend themselves, great customer service and great selection. Avoid the Home Depot and/or Menards on University and patronize this local asset! read more

This place confuses me. I love the store on Dale and Grand, but not so much this one. A) Never has exactly what I need. There's always something close, but not quite IT. B) Staff seem skeptical when they ask me for help and I say no. I might be a girl and not look like I hit the hardware store, like ever, but I hit 'em up all the time. Sean saved the day and our lawn! We have a Nelson tractor lawn sprinkler that Ace Hardware sells and it's arms would not turn. I could not figure out what was wrong with it so I took it into Frattallone's to be looked at. Sean took his time looking at it and figured out that a plastic part insider the sprinkler had moved and that caused a little bump that was not allowing the sprinkler arms to move. He moved the plastic piece and fixed our sprinkler. It's service like this that keeps people going back to neighborhood hardware stores like Frattallone's. Thank you so much Sean! read more

I have fond memories of hardware stores. Places with nails, paint, fertilizer, kitchen equipment and hundreds of things you didn't know you needed until you saw it. This is Frattalone's. It's much like the hardware store of my childhood in rural Iowa. It has everything. They will repair a screen, rewire a lamp, replace a window and rent you a tiller. They can help you pick out screws, sell you barbecue tools and provide you with a wide selection of walking sticks. The kitchen section is awesome. Need a tiny whip? They have them. Egg cups? They have them. Knives? They have them. Pop-over pans? They have them. I have never had a last minute kitchen equipment need that I could not find there. If you insist on long straight aisles, soulless customer service and an acre of parking, this place is not for you. If you love a real hardware store, appreciate sincerely helpful staff and can deal with parallel parking this might be the best hardware store you've ever been to. My neighborhood hardware store. I appreciate the service level here - it is off the charts better than any Home Depot or Menards, though it is a bit more expensive. Parking isn't too much of a pain as they have some spots off the street - parking on Grand is normally awful, but I've almost always found a spot in this side lot. I'm in this location at least 1x week. The staff is friendly, I'm able to grab whatever random household item neededand have no issues parking there (thank goodness for the side parking). I even recenly used their paint counter for an office move, and it was even quicker than heading to the larger box stores that offer this service. The paint was just perfect (the office walls look great!) - and hands down I'll be recommending to friends to consider the Ace Store as well during while dealing with painting needs. read more

It's great having a place like this in the neighborhood. It may not be your cheapest source for everything, but it's reasonably priced and offers far better customer service and convenience than what I've found at its larger competitors. Plus, it really is quite large for being a neighborhood hardware store. A plus for some may be that they offer free storage in the off-season for snowblowers and lawn mowers purchased there, I think. IF THEY DON' T CARE, WHY SHOULD YOU CARE ABOUT THEIR BUSINESS THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IN TWO DAYS THAT I HAVE HAD KEYS MADE, THAT DO NOT WORK!! The young kids behind the desk spend very little time making the keys, they can sell a candy bar but anything beyond that is past their pay grade. SO MY CHILD CAN'T GET INTO THE HOUSE AFTER SCHOOL. I call Keith Roberts to tell him that the key making needs to be run by those with more experience as this is not cool. His response "Madam, I do not make the decisions for the store I just follow the rules." Hmmm...did that sound like, "Gosh I am so sorry that it had that negative effect on you!" I will refund your money and talk to management." This "Madam" had irritation and condescension to it.....Any HR people needing a manager, run from this attitude. This is where I bought my gas grill several years ago and I returned recently because of the tiny flame I'd been getting so far this warm weather season. The grill had not been fired up for a good 3 years. I thought it might be a certain part - the hose that connects the grill to the LP tank - because a small LP tank that connects directly to the grill produces a great flame (and I recently had my large LP tank topped off). So I walked in to this store one evening and, thankfully, got to talk with one of their long-time and mature employees who knew a little something about some things. I told her the symptoms exhibited and the steps I'd already taken. And I read the tag on the current model of the very same grill and noticed their updated directions for ignition. She ended up advising me to first test the connector line for leaks, and, after ensuring there is no leak in the line, follow the updated version for ignition. Well... last week, I had the opportunity to roll out the grill and test it before cooking the evening's meat. I carefully connected each end to their respective parts, tested for leaks and found none. Next, with the propane tank valve open, I waited well over 1 minute before turning the grill dial to "ignite" and then pushing the ignition switch. Poof! A great and hot flame! It was ready in a few minutes to throw on those thick-cut pork chops. Thanks, Dee, (I think that was her name), for having the patience to bounce around ideas with me!! I agree with the other reviewer - this is a great hardware store! The staff is extremely helpful, and I always enjoy a hardware store that has a great selection packed into a smaller space. One thing that I found strange is that this store and the store on the other side of Grand seem to have slightly different inventories. For example, we were buying spray paint, and this store had Brand A and no Brand B, while the other store has Brand B but none of Brand A. Seemed strange, but for some reason we were in both on the same day and happened to look. So, keep in mind that if you can't find something, maybe have them call the other store and ask them. Overall, a great local hardware store. However, they are limited in their selection because of it. If you can't find it here, my recommendation is the Menards on Prior...you'll find anything there and a great staff too. read more

This is a great neighborhood hardware store, and I'm very happy that it happens to be in my neighborhood. First, I should mention that it's dog friendly. Dogs on leashes are welcomed, which is always a nice thing. Second, the service is top-notch, whether you want a key made or help finding something. The staff communicate via radio, so they will even go ahead and notify their colleagues in another part of the store that you are coming if they've sent you in a certain direction for an item. Super friendly and super helpful. Finally, I love the selection here. It is vast and covers everything you'd expect to find in a traditional hardware store and then some. There's both an upstairs and a downstairs to the store, meaning they stock a lot of items. It's the perfect place to go looking when you have a need but aren't quite sure what you need to fill it. I also enjoy browsing their large home/kitchen selection with everything from pots and pans to baking sheets and storage containers. I always wind up finding something I need. read more

Ace Hardware is the best! I'm a new homeowner and so I'm pretty clueless. Every time I've gone in there some one has been there to help me and answer my questions. The other day I needed a screw and the guy spent a ton of time making sure I knew the right one to pick out...it was a .33 cent screw. I came into the store asking about succulents. I am from NV originally and love them. My sister is a landscape architect (grad from U of M) and has a ton of them throughout her house year round. I asked one of the fellows who works in "garden" about a specific succulent in which he preceded to tell me they will not grow (indoors) here at all. That they are a fad. I then asked to talk to the person most knowledgeable about plants. I was then sent to another fellow who told me succulents are perennials. No one was willing to help me, they seemed most concerned with other clients dealing with light bulbs. I've never been so....shocked? Go to a good nursery that has decent knowledge.....this place is a joke. But I did get a good laugh! read more

This place has just about everything you need. I walked into this store and found some part I didn't think existed and got great service while I was there. At any small local hardware store, you should expect to pay more per item than you you pay at Home Depot. When you support a place like this, you strengthen the community and keep your money local. I really wanted this to be my go-to hardware store because I live in the neighborhood. Sadly, I have had several negative experiences. First, I bought paint here a couple months ago. The salesperson was inattentive as he helped me and ended up mixing the wrong type of paint. When I brought this to his attention, he was rude and gruff about correcting my order. Still, I returned because I wanted to support a local place. I bought a new mirror and visited the store to purchase a hanging kit. The salesperson this time asked me many questions about my project and then sold me a kit that didn't end up working (not necessarily his fault). When I went back to get the right product, a new salesperson rudely told me to just bring the mirror in so he could tell me what to do. I have now got back 3 times attempting to buy the right stuff, and each time the salepersons basically call me stupid and tell me different solutions. Lastly, on a recent visit I was in the store and was being followed by another customer who was persistently harassing me by hitting on me. Several salepeople noticed this behavior but nobody intervened. Finally my sister told the guy to leave me alone. After he left a salesperson said "Sorry about that", after the fact! All in all, I've been consistently treated poorly and never received the correct product. read more
