Tried the restaurant for the first time tonight, the sushi here was amazing! Had a spread of 4 different rolls and an appetizer of spare ribs. The ribs were alright but the sushi was out of this world, especially the dragon roll, 10/10 would recommend. Staff was kind and atmosphere was fun. Ordered the rainbow roll, it was suspect. Smelt a little fishy. I ate it anyway, still alive to write this review. Friend got the stir fry udon noodles with tofu. It was good, needed more vegetables. Got a couple cocktails, they were good- premade but good. We sat at the bar, the bartender was really casual and relaxed, but didn't mutter a word to us. Took orders and brought food. I can't even begin to express how disappointed I was with my Kenichi experience. I ordered the Sushi and Sashimi combination ($37). This was described as "6 pieces sushi, 12 pieces sashimi and 6 pieces California roll." Given the prices I was expecting a very high quality sushi dinner. What I received was a wildly disappointing and mediocre sampling with nigiri with so much wasabi on it that it was basically inedible and the pieces of sashimi were less than an inch wide. The rolls were no larger than a nickel in diameter. The quality was awful and over all it was a waste of time and money. The menu was WAY over priced. read more

This is my go-to spot for Sushi and drinks. I took off 1 star just because there's not a lot of tables in the front. It can very loud and very crowded. Not the best for an intimate date or get-together. Other than that, the food is amazing, good prices, and service is great. Try the Pina Colada, Rainbow Roll and Rock n Roll Roll - all delicious! Also had the Seaweed Salad and Beef Teriyaki. Both great. The PuPu was a little disappointing. The boneless spareribs are strips, not very meaty. Everything else - best around! read more

Kenichi is very good. The food is fresh and there's a good variety, but it's not a place to take your kids and there is no ambiance to speak of. Think dive bar. The prices are very reasonable and I've never had to wait for a table. I really like their seafood soup and the deluxe sushi dinner. We came here based off of Yelp reviews for a sushi dinner. Reasonably priced but the sushi was just okay. Rolls were smaller than expected. We also ordered the crab rangoons that were deep fried to perfection and very tasty. MaiTais were also very good and only $5.75! The Chinese entree someone ordered next to us looked and smelled good. We plan to come back for the drinks and try their entrees. Will not order their sushi again unless it's on happy hour pricing. read more

Tried the Crispy Calamari this time and it was excellent in texture and taste. The Crispy Jumbo Shrimp was simply out of bounds good again. Their House Rice was equally as good too. Bob made a few Cooked eel sushi to sample and it was superb in freshness with the ginger and wasabi. Kenichi has now passed the consistency test in food preparation. The service is very attentive and kind, the atmosphere is nice, it's a little small, so hard to get around. The sushi is very good. I have been here two or three times and it is always satisfying. I always get gyoza for the appetizer and its alright, I had better. The chicken wings that I got didn't really have any sauce and it was kind of plain. There isn't really a good place for parking, because all the parking in the front is always taken. There is a spot in front of this auto-body(?) Anyway, this place serves awesome tasting sushi, so take advantage of this restaurant! I reccommend the dragon roll! read more

Stopped in here last night for a quick dinner before seeing Dave Chappelle and let me tell you their crab Rangoons are in my top 3. I got tiger eye maki and Philadelphia maki. Freaking delicious. Great pricing too! I was surprise how cheap and DELICIOUS they were. The restaurant was quite busy (we had to sit at the sushi bar) but the food came very fast. Very cute place. We get takeout and dine in here as much as we can afford to. What a gem, the owners and the staff are awesome, the sushi is the best around, the drinks are made perfectly every time - and they almost always have delicious toro and sometimes chutoro on the menu. This is the real deal. We have turned quite a few of our friends onto Kenichi as well and they all love it... one lives an hour away and has made more then one detour for a delicious sushi dinner. I came to this place for lunch because of the stellar reviews here on Yelp. I had been thinking about going to my regular places (Kyoto or Baba's) but wanted to try out a new place that seemed less expensive. The inside of the restaurant is pleasant, its a bit dark but has a very relaxed atmosphere, and the woman who greeted us at the door was very welcoming. We decided to order as we ate and first ordered the Red Sox roll. I noticed that the woman who had played hostess and then waitress was also making our sushi. That worried me a little bit since I wasn't sure she actually knew how to make sushi. Unfortunately, my fears were realized when our Red Sox roll arrived. It was bland, falling apart, and the fish was extremely thin and tasted old. I was not at all impressed, as most times when ordering those over the top special rolls I expect over the top flavors. None were to be found here, and it was extremely small and thin to boot. Next we decided to try some nigiri sushi. I am a fan of raw fish and simple rolls (I don't like always getting maki which can be a bit much after a while.) The first thing I noticed when it arrived was, again, how thin the fish was. The tuna and salmon were almost paper thin and fell apart upon being picked up with chopsticks. Again, the fish did not taste very fresh and I was extremely disappointed with our nigiri. Our nigiri also came with a California roll which, as you can imagine, was bland. I would not recommend. My bill was $28 which is cheap, but its not much of a bargain when you figure most of what you're eating is plain white rice. I'd spare the extra cash and just go to Baba or Haiku and if you want somewhere a bit lower in price head to Kyoto on Lincoln St. read more

What a sweet little place to go for dinner. This small bistro is, thankfully, a great replacement for Zipango. With a wide variety of sushi and other dishes it is a great place to grab a bite or sit and relax for a bit. The happy-go-lucky bartender that was there when I was had us laughing all night and we weren't even sitting at the bar! The pleasant and knowledgable staff make you feel like you could be in China or Japan! Though parking can be a bit rough, with the nice weather a little walk won't hurt anyone. I ordered food from Kenichi and specifically asked for no meat, and reiterated "no animal products". I said rice noodles with tofu and vegetables. The waiter brought the food out about 15 minutes later, and my food had egg in it. I kindly notified the waiter of the mistake and he said they would remake my food. I asked for the food to go, as my friend would be done eating when another 15 minutes passes. This time around, there was chicken and shrimp in it. I am very dissapointed with their service and will not eat there again. On a sidenote, it is the responsibility of a restaurant to understand what plant based diets are as they have grown in popularity, and it is a serious issue for someone who doesn't eat any animal products to ingest meat. I don't recommend this establishment to anyone practicing a diet such as mine, and wouldn't be surprised if they get anyone else's order wrong too. read more

I love Kenichi! I've been going here for a few years now and I always have a good experience. They have yummy rolls at reasonable prices and inexpensive mixed drinks (beware, they are pretty strong). I usually get the Mt. Fuji roll, and it's delicious every single time. Also, keep a lookout for their happy hour menu on the weekends when they have cheaper apps and rolls. Very friendly staff and warm, inviting atmosphere. It's not very big, but it feels cozy. Definitely will continue going! read more
