Been going to Ken's off and on now for 15yrs. The new manager, Todd Santos, is the REAL DEAL. Super helpful, friendly, and smart. Todd recommended a BG hot oil flush & fuel/air induction service on my 2014 Mazda CX-5. WOW what a difference this service made! I honestly thought that the BG service could just be 'snake oil' and an upselling type service. Nope. Quite frankly, this car's acceleration and response now is night and day. New ownership beware. Rats ate my car up!! Take photos before they work on your engine. Missing hardware and broken brackets. My car was in and out of the shop after a technician broke several items, and forgot to reconnect the AC. My $600 5 day repair turned into a month in the shop coming back 3 times, ending with almost $2K bill at the end. Then rat's damaged my kids car seat that my wife didn't discover till our kid was jumping around in the rat poop all over the back seat. I understand sometimes a new/training mechanic can fail and be fired but the insult to injury was having to spend time on 4 extra trips, one night filling/ cleaning oil in what was originally a small leak, to then cleaning out all the rat poop and sanitizing the car. read more

Booked an appointment online for Yesterday Friday 7/14 @ 7am to bring my truck in for an AC repair (Drivers side blows hot), dropped it off at 7am, truck didn't get looked at until almost 4pm and was told it was likely the Blend Door Actuator which is what we suspected, was quoted $950 for repair and told they would need to keep it for 2 days the following week or schedule it out 10 days. Unprovoked the Tech also randomly mentions my battery is no good. It's an older battery so understandable but I have never had any issues with it, left the shop and truck died in the middle of the road. Got jumped and brought it home and again it's dead. Could be coincidence but that's awfully weird timing. Diagnostics were $129 and the whole reason I had brought it to Ken's was for an advertised AC discount when I mentioned this the tech told me repair isn't AC specific enough and is not applicable. Now I'm out $129 and need a new battery. Super unhappy. read more

Very disappointed with recent experiences. Twice I brought my car in because it was overheating. The first time they replaced a radiator, and the second time the thermostat. Each time the service was courteous, and they explained the troubleshooting process and, to my amateur understanding, the steps they proposed made sense. However, after another couple of weeks I found a bad antifreeze leak under the car and it overheated again. Took it somewhere else that pressurized the system and immediately found an obvious leak through the water pump. It was so easy to diagnose and determine the real problem that I have a hard time understanding why Ken's didn't catch it. Almost $1,400 dollars in work that didn't address the problem and may have led to damage of the engine (headgasket). I used to trust this shop but no longer. I don't know if something changed, but it's really unfortunate. read more

I'm relatively new to driving in SD, so finding a trustworthy auto shop was difficult to find. Some of my friends recommended Ken's & I thought I would give it a shot. Ken's has impeccable service, their receptionist, Mandi, is very welcoming. I'm not too familiar with cars and the things that occur within them but they explain things very well even for those that are inept like myself. If they cannot solve the issue, they will even recommend other local businesses that work in tandem with Ken's (sometimes even discounts just from mentioning Ken's sent you) The cost of repairs is reasonable but I've hear that it may be on the pricier side, however they have some of the most honest people in the business so they will let you know if anything is wrong & vice versa (which in my opinion is much more important). TL;DR Ken's Auto Center is a bit pricey but do their best to have your car running again. Trustworthy mechanics. read more

My company is leasing a vehicle from Enterprise Fleet Management and Ken's Auto Center is a preferred service provider. The brake light came on and would not turn off, so we decided to get it checked out at Ken's Auto Center. I called to schedule an appointment and was able to schedule something the very next morning. When I showed up at 7:30am, Ken was there to register our vehicle and took down all of the pertinent information. Once the techs were onsite they got straight to work on our vehicle and within short order discovered the cause of the brake light issue, a rodent got under the hood and chewed through the wire for the brake light and it needed to be replaced with some new wire. Also, the rotors were warped and needed to be resurfaced. All of this work was going to take about 4 hours, so I asked Ken if I could get dropped off at my office, which is less than 2 miles away. Once Ken's assistant arrived he drove me over to my office. So, about 4 hours later I get a call from Sean and our vehicle is ready to be picked up. I hitched a ride from a co-worker and picked up our vehicle. Ken was able to coordinate everything with our leasing company, so no issues with paying the bill. The brake light is no longer lit up and the brakes feel perfect. Pedal isn't too hard, nor too soft. Just right! Overall, my first experience with Ken's Auto Center was extremely positive and we will not hesitate to bring our vehicles (work and personal) to Ken's Auto Center. read more

I've come to this location twice, first time was a good experience had a broken lug nut stud on my tire that was replaced. Quoted higher initially, but price was lower when it came down to actually paying. So I thought that was good. However, I returned a second time and got an axle replaced and one month later I find out that the axle was not put in correctly and has damaged more parts, after breaking down on the side of the road yesterday. My boyfriend took my car here so I could get an oil change with a free diagnostic check. Of course, it was free since the oil change I normally pay $70 for somewhere else was over $100. They then quoted me ridiculous pricing for routine work to be done in the future. "Do not take your car to get service here, all they care about is your money not your car" they will only tell you the things that they want you to hear to avoid telling the truth of what really is wrong with your vehicle, all they want is your business to up sale you, take advantage of you, scam you like they did to me. I take my 2006 Acura TL here to get service cause my check engine light was on cause of a misfire on the 4th cylinder, I feared and had a very strong feeling that I had a blown head gasket or possible leak somewhere none the less the signs where very high to me so I have it towed and tell "Shawn" the adviser everything about my car and that I might have a blown head gasket, tells me well they will get to the bottom of it. I get a phone call at least 3 days later, it's Shawn again he tells me that it's not a blown head gasket and reason of the misfire is the spark plugs and coils are in a major need of repair and need a whole new set. He also tells me my radiator is leaking and my intake hose has a rip plus needs an oil change. For the recored beware of this guy Shawn the adviser he will up sale you what ever he can just to make money off of you, in total for parts $814.59 and labor $528.00. So I ask Shawn again just to be clear so I don't have a blown head gasket or leak? Shawn tells me no that if I give the ok to do all repairs on what they believe is causing the misfire will solve the issue of your car. So I give the ok to do all the repairs on my car, one day goes by Shawn tells me my car is good to go and ready for pick up, I head on over to the shop, pay my bill and drive away happy with my car fixed, but that happy feeling literally lasted for 6min on the road when my check engine light came back on. Confused and a bit frustrated I was I immediately call the shop ,Shawn picks up I tell him my check engine light just came back on, he tells me "oh so you may have more problems to your car" right then and there I lost my trust into Kens Auto shop, I take it back to the shop to have them look at it once again and few days later I get a call back, I go in person down to the shop for them to tell me that it is a blown head gasket and it's going to need a repair. Me spending $1300 on parts and labor from the beginning was a waste of money and a giant scam in the end cause the issue on my TL was still there even after the fact when I told them what I think was causing my misfire. Ken the owner tried to give me excuses of how complicated the situation was but in the end I was the one who got played a fool. I had high hopes for Ken's since a few of my friends recommended them but I can't recommend them. Took my car here because the AC stopped working. They told me that I needed to replace the entire system at a cost of about $2000. As you might expect, sticker shock and the need for a second opinion ensued. I took the car to the dealer (gasp... expecting it to cost WAY more) and their estimate and subsequent repair amounted to much less. I'm not sure what else I can say. When you take your car to a mechanic, you expect two things: a high degree of trust and a pricetag lower than the dealer. In this case, I got neither. I have used KEN'S Auto for 15 years without any issues. Friendly service, excellent repairs at a fair price. Ken's been my go to place for miscellaneous repairs for years. I would warn anyone that brings their vehicle here about what occurred to me today. Get your estimate up front in writing as I was overcharged over $200 today. I was quoted $126 for a fan motor and $135 for resistor plus $220 labor on the phone Friday. $475 was slightly more than I wanted to pay, but I agreed to accept this price over the phone. Saturday upon pickup I was told my bill was $680 plus. Obviously Shawn has communication issues as that was not the price I agreed to on Friday evening on the voice call. I wrote the price down on an index card. I was shocked I was charged $120 to diagnose my fan not working. I knew it was the fan motor and/or a resistor. What's to diagnose? This charge was not applied towards my repair but added into the total. I paid nearly $80 for an air filter. REALLY? I am happy I decided not to have them change out the burned out fog light bulbs, as that cost was another $75 to change 2 BULBS. I will never return to this auto repair shop again. They must have gotten greedy since I last had my SUV in this shop. BEWARE of 'PRICE QUOTES' over the phone as I was informed $473 out the door.
