It's really rare to find an autoshop these days that won't try to nickel and dime you or tell you that your car suddenly has multiple issues that need to be addressed immediately. I brought my car in for an oil leak inspection and the mechanics laid out the issues to me and showed me where the leaks were coming from. They were upfront about the cost and their recommendations and didn't try to sway me in any direction. I was prepared for them to try and push for expensive repairs, but I was met with honest service. I felt comfortable talking to the mechanics and making a decision based on their recommendations. So back in February when San Diego got some real rain, my car decided not to start as the rain started to come down hard, which is always how it goes, isn't it? No one says, "it was a bright, beautiful sunny day when my car wouldn't start, but it was okay because the birds were chirping, flowers were blooming, and life was good." After Yelping some local mechanics, I found FTS but they were about to close in 5 minutes. I tried calling anyway and someone actually picked up. I'm not sure who it was, but he was helpful in explaining where to drop my keys off and park my car overnight. They share the lot with some other mechanics right next to the Emerald strip mall, so it was easy to find. I didn't feel unsafe leaving my car there which was a good sign. I called back the next day to get a report on my car expecting to shell out some $$$. However, they told me that they tried starting my car about 20 times and it started each time. I asked them how much I owe them, and the employee said it was free! Seriously?! I was expecting to pay since they ran a diagnostic, but they didn't charge me anything! I had an emergency issue today with my Lincoln MKX and needed the vehicle to be looked at as soon as possible, my friend who also takes his vehicle to FTS referred me to them, he gets his vehicle maintenance and any work done at their shop all the time. Well, the emergency issue was all my lights/sensors came on for airbags, tire error and an ODO error came on and my vehicle went into a weird mode of feeling like I was in 5th gear trying to drive. Well, I had to call AAA to tow my car to FTS and not only was Nick able to get my vehicle looked at today, they were also able to fix the problem today as well. Attention to detail is not a priority. They didn't earn my trust or future business. I have a 1961 F100 that had a variety of bugs that needed to be worked out. I went to FTS based on a recommendation from someone at work. The first time I went to pick up my truck after I was told work was complete I found that the parking brake they "fixed" wasn't working. I asked around the shop and eventually talked to the mechanic that installed many new parking brake components to see if I was missing something and he just shrugged his shoulders. They eventually made the parking brake functional. They convinced me that my overheating issue required a new radiator, which I approved and this did fix my overheating issue. Unfortunately the "new radiator" was either used, or horribly beat up upon install as many of fins on the engine side were damaged. After one failed attempt to pick up my truck because work hadn't actually been completed as described, I was finally driving my truck home. I got most of the way home before my truck began to shake aggressively at about 2500 RPM. I called Joe right away and he called me back, and to his defense, paid for the tow back to FTS, which I appreciated. After having the truck for another week I was told that the "shake" had to be coming from the "rotary assembly" as they had ruled out transmission, drive shaft, transfer case or any other drive train possibilities. They quoted me the best case and worst case dollar amount for getting into the rotary assembly. I should have got a second opinion...I took the truck to an engine builder based on the information Joe gave me about his diagnosis that FTS had ruled out any drive train issues and that it must be in the rotary assembly. So instead of paying $2000 to get into the rotary assembly, I had the engine rebuilt. After engine rebuild, I still have the "shake"... read more

My car was long overdue for a "check up" and was starting to sound funny, drive funny....you know the drill. Having just moved to San Diego I was super nervous to go to a mechanic because I didn't want to get taken for a ride and get charged a ton or get unnecessary work done. A friend recommended Joe's shop and I was so so glad for it. They did an overview of my car and then Joe called me personally to tell me what was up. There was a first round of repairs that he believed would fix the issues. He let me know the cost breakdown. He then said if the problems persisted after the initial repairs, they would have to do additional work (that he also explained in detail) but would be dependent on how the car drove. He said it was his hope that the first round of repairs would do the trick! He turned out to be right. I felt he was very honest with me. This place has nice customers service but they are not trust worthy. I came in for brake check up. They were kind and helped me out. They quoted me for all new brakes and totaling out to $700. That is a ridiculous price and he also offer financing for 6 months. I left and went to midas. After inspection I only need rear brakes and they quoted me for $139. Always get a second opinion and quote. If I didn't I would have been robbed by fts! read more

They wanted to charge me $2400 for a blown gasket.....well, so they said it was blown in my 11 yr old Ford Taurus that my stepson drives. I am thinking, the car is probably worth that much so I better get a second opinion. I went to another shop for a quote. They performed a test in front of me which indicated that the gasket was fine. Also, they said before the test that if this needs repair, it will cost about $1500, NOT $2400.....btw, it was radiator that needed work.....seriously? They did a good job of working on the car. I called and was quoted $69.99 for alignment and bought a $50 for $75 yelp deal. He said it would take an hour. I got there and the Yelp deal wasn't compatible with $69.99 alignment deal so I paid $89.99 for an alignment. It took 2 hours to finish. The guy was cool enough and I wouldn't say don't go.
