We (wife and I) refer to Pacific Auto Service as "our mechanic", as they have provided excellent service for almost a decade for us; and I highly recommend them. A special shoutout for consistent excellent customer service from Olivier and Fernando. I first visited Pacific in 2016 when my car broke down near Miramar on my way home. I had the car towed to them after looking them up and seeing a good rating, and haven't been disappointed since. From Santee, we've been having our vehicles regularly serviced there since then. Consistent staff/management, reliable and trustworthy service, and fair pricing has kept us coming back. We recently purchased two used vehicles from CarMax El Cajon (also recommended), and had Pacific Auto Service do thorough checks on them, and CarMax addressed the few things which were reported. I had a check engine light that went on, I took my car here for service in the morning (8am) , they quote me $190 for diagnostic, which is okay, I left the car and I was told that they'll call me once they find out what is wrong and quote me for the price for what's needed to be done. A little over Past 3pm, I still haven't got any call, until I am the one that call them to follow up, then they told me that they still can't figure what's really wrong and to continue diagnosing I have to pay $475. I was fuming, not only that they didn't give me a courtesy call about this, and I am the one that call to follow up, now they want to charge me more in order to continue the diagnose. As far as I'm concern, that's one way to rip off a customer. NOT RECOMMENDING THIS BUSINESS AT ALL. read more

This service shop was chosen for me by AAA. I needed a tow to a nearby place and this was the one. I am soooo glad that I know about these folks. First off when they called to tell me howmitch a diagnostic was to cost and I had a question about it, they were good to work with me and narrowed it down to one diagnostic first. Big kudos on that one. It turns out that my repair was the same thing I had encountered a year or so ago and fixed myself. It's an easy fix but wasn't going to be easy for me since I broke down at night while they were closed. Point is, they were quick and courteous, honest and knew what thre problem was and told me what they did. So I trust them. I also believe that Fernando was honest, fair, competent and reasonable. I got a Yelp or AAA discount and the price was much less than originally quoted for diagnoses and fix. Yes, I could have fixed this myself again but they were there for me when I needed them and a it was worth every penny because I agreed with everything they did and felt respected and cared for from start to finish. read more

Yup. So here we are five years later, and my Jeep suddenly and very unexpectedly overheated this past weekend. I pulled it into a parking lot before it reached the red zone, waited four hours for it to cool down, and was finally able to drive it the half-mile to a shop in Escondido. Shocker - the crap radiator hoses Pacific Auto put in are leaking. If it hadn't been for COVID, I have no doubt this would've happened at least two years ago. Will never come back here. They use inferior parts and give bad advice, along with changing out lightbulbs you didn't ask for and then charging you for it. No thanks. I'll take my money and my three cars elsewhere. read more

I started coming here after a relative recommended them to me. At first I was turned off by the cost, seems a little steeper than some. But I decided to go ahead with it, and was glad I did because for the price I paid was well worth it! Other places I have saved money but had to return one or two times. It's the most reliable car repair shop I have ever been to. I've been using this repair shop ever since I moved to San Diego. They are really honest and kind. Every time They take good care of my really old car I bought. Every time, they explain to me why I need this repair, how much it will cost, how long it will take, so that I can understand it even if I am not familiar with the car. In addition, they also smoothly negotiated with the insurance company. As long as I live in California, I will keep using this repair shop. Getting your car repaired is usually unpleasant -- long waits, high costs, service reps who just want to shuffle you in and out. I'm used to getting that experience at car dealerships. Sick of it, I went to this independently-run service shop based on a friend's recommendation. Pacific Auto Service was a completely different experience. They were no hassle, friendly and truly helpful from the moment I first called them to set up an appointment (they even gave me a quote over the phone) to when they finished replacing my intermediate steering shaft in less than two hours. What really stood out was how everyone at the shop was relaxed and pleasant, and I didn't feel like I was being pressured, hurried or pushed around. Three weeks later, my steering shaft seems to be holding up quite nicely. BETTER PRICE: The price they quoted was 15% lower than at my dealership's service shop, and then when I arrived I took advantage of their Yelp "check in" discount on my iPhone to get 10% off their price (it's good for up to $50 off). The overall cost ended up being ~$80 less than my dealership. FLEXIBLE: When I requested a Saturday appointment, they suggested I come in early in the morning given that steering shaft work takes a while. We agreed on 9am, and I arrived at 940am. They were still very friendly and happy to see me even though I was late, and they never rushed me. By the way, the shop seemed pretty empty that morning which was a big plus b/c I often take care of car repairs on Saturdays. TIME SAVED: If I had taken it to the dealership, I easily would've had to wait four or five hours for the work to be done given that there would've been more vehicles being serviced at the same time. I was amazed that they called me at 11:45am, having completed the work in just under two hours. NO BUREAUCRACY: When I asked if there were any shops nearby I could go to walk to, they said no and then offered me a loaner vehicle at no charge. I didn't even have to ask! Plus, I didn't have to sign my life away with forms or get a long lecture. Totally hassle-free. "Do you mind if it's a pickup truck?" they asked, and then suggested I go to the mall a couple of miles away. I was able to take care of a few errands during those two hours. It was so hassle-free that I felt like I had just borrowed the family car from Pacific Auto Service. read more

I have been coming here for about fours years now and have NEVER had a bad experience. As a young woman with no knowledge of cars, finding an honest, trustworthy, and approachable place to take your car is a incredibly rare find. I never hesitate to call them as they are very responsive to phone calls, provide reasonable prices (as confirmed by friends and family who DO have knowledge of cars), and excellent customer service. I once came to them concerned about a noise my vehicle was making, only to be told it was a simple matter of securing the center exhaust shield with washers. They got me in and out within 20 minutes and at no cost whatsoever. Any other mechanic would have taken this opportunity to scare me with unnecessary repair costs. They never have. Summary: ONLY GO TO THIS PLACE IF YOU WANT YOUR TIME WASTED. I had an appointment at Pacific Auto Service at 2pm on a Thursday. I arrived at 1:40pm, and they told me they needed to run a diagnostic before they could find out what was wrong with my car's air conditioner. At around 3:20pm, over an hour and a half after arriving, during which I waited patiently in the lobby, they told me that they didn't have the tool to run the diagnostic for my year and model of car! I told them the year, make, and model when I scheduled the appointment, as well as confirmed it when I arrived! I wasted a total of 2 hours at the place, for them to tell me they did absolutely nothing with my car! Only go to this place if you want your time wasted, what a joke! read more

These guys are awesome. I got a flat the evening of 12/4 and had to take my car somewhere, and progressive said these guys, so i said sure why not. After my car remained safe in their behind parking area, i called them first thing the next day. They didn't have the appropriate tires for my vehicle, but they were cool with me bringing in a new tire, and they'd do the instal. So that's what i did. They took the busted tire off my car, i went to another place and got a new, and non-busted tire, brought it back, and they remounted the tire. And they did the whole thing for free. The staff were kind, the waiting area was large and tidy, and there's a real sense of professionalism about the place. I fully recommend Pacific Auto Service should you need help with your vehicle. read more

Called to asked for a quote and they hung up on me. I'm not going to even bother calling back if that's the type of service expected.

I brought in my diesel truck to this place beacause it was recommended by my warranty service. They quoted me that the backplate was leaking oil and they did the job. I took it home and the truck was still leaking oil. They went and fix it again and took about 1 week to get it back so they can test it. I got it back and started to leak oil again. I called them and they say they cant fix the truck since they have fixed it twice. Took it to ford and they had to removed the engine to fix the leak. Ford showed me what Pacific Auto did was just put a silicone around the edge of the leak instead of taking the engine out and reolace the gasket. read more

Wow what a horrible customer service. I made an appointment one week in advance, come in early in the morning, and I have to wait until the front desk to finish talking on the phone. The front desk didn't even acknowledge that I was even there, just kept on talking on the phone about different services and quotes. Wait a minute, there is a paying customer right in front on you. You might want to make an eye contact and say, "I will be right with you". Or even better yet, tell the guy on the phone to hold and help a paying customer. I am just getting an oil change and brake check, so it should only take 30 seconds to process the order. But NO, front desk person just kept on talking and talking. If I am paying for a service using my hard-earned money, I deserve respect as a customer. I am definitely not coming back. read more

Price is Decent My car needed a timing belt replacement, the car dealership wanted $900+ for replacing the timing belt + the water pump, that does not include replacing all the seals and tensioner. I started searching on yelp and found Pacific Auto Service. I gave them a call and Olivier was very knowledgeable and patient, he emailed me a detailed quote, listing all the replacement parts and labor cost. It's a much cheaper than the dealership and they are replacing everything instead of "inspecting" things. Though the parts werent genuine products but they were OEM products made in japan, so I believe the price is decent. They are Honest People I dropped off the car in the morning and it was ready at noon as promised. When I picked up the car, Olivier explained to me what they did and what should be done. I was told the transmission fluid was leaking when I got my oil change done last time at a local shop, but when I asked Olivier, he said there's nothing wrong (how often would a technician tell u there's nothing wrong?) He did mentioned that my brake rotors need to be replaced and I totally believe that cause I can already hear it. There's no pressure to get it done right away and I felt comfortable saying I'd come back another day. Great Customer Service When I dropped off the car in the morning, they gave me a ride to work which is 20 minutes away from the shop. I am pretty sure other shops especially the local dealership won't do that. When I was about to leave after picking up the car, I asked them to replace some of the brake light bulbs because they've burnt out. Olivier politely asked me to wait at the reception area and within 10-15 minutes they replaced all 3 of the bulbs. They did not charge me anything for that. The bulbs probably just cost them a few bucks but it's a kind gesture and it's definitely a great customer retention technique! I am totally going back next time because of their professionalism, honesty and customer service. read more

My last review done for "Pacific Auto Service" was in 2012, so here's an update. I've been going to them since then and will continue to go to them until they give me reason not to. In other words, they are superb! Below is a brief summary of my experience with them from 2012 up until now: The owner, Olivier, is super personable and honest. He'll answer any questions you have and explain things if you do not understand. This goes the same for his staff. They are all genuinely nice and helpful. I've brought both my vehicles in for usual maintenance (i.e. oil change), timing belt replacement, brakes, front bushing replacement, etc... and have no real complaints so far. They've seem to always fix the problems I've had for a reasonable price. Then again, I wouldn't say the best deal pricing but I'm a strong believer of you get what you pay for. I have a brother in-law that works as a mechanic for Toyota and I always consult him on pricing to make sure I'm not being totally ripped off. So far, they've been around the same ballpark of what he tells me it should cost. Plus, they'll let you know if the issue your having is a must to fix or if it's something that can wait. Here are other pluses: The place is kept clean and organized (i.e. they use computers to keep track of everything). They provide coffee, tea, and sometimes snacks while you wait. Plenty of seats for waiting and even accommodate kids (i.e, toys, small kid seats). Free wifi Online scheduling (I recommend maybe 3-5 days in advance and you'll for sure get a quick response back confirming your appointment). They are open on the weekend. Fast forward to present day: I scheduled an appointment to have my brakes checked because it's been making a weird noise. I was given an ETA of 45min. Olivier comes to me somewhere close to that time and lets me know that my brakes are actually in great condition. He walks me to my truck (which is up in the air) and explains everything they've checked for. The noise I'm hearing is normal and he tells me that if it gets worse, to let them know. Reassures me that my breaks are good to go and asks me if there is anything else they want me to check. Then he tells the staff that is working on my truck to calibrate or tighten the back brakes (I'm not a car person, so I don't remember exactly what it was). So I go back to waiting room and he tells me that it'll be just another 10min. He did not lie. 8-10 minutes later, my truck is ready. He walks me past the counter and in my mind, I'm expecting to pay a small fee for them to check my truck but he keeps walking past the counter. I didn't get charged for anything. I know no "real" work was done on my truck, but the staff spent time checking it out. I felt bad but do you guys see what I mean about how great of a place this is. Any other crappy auto service I've been to, have charged me for something like this. So yeah, I highly recommend this business to anybody around the Mira Mesa area. What a great place, ya did me right fellow yelpers. My car had something terribly wrong with it over the weekend, I called another yelp mechanic Monday morning and he couldn't get me in until Thursday. The car was not driveable so waiting a week was not an option. Pacific said they could look at it that afternoon so we had it towed there. We took our two year old with us thinking we'd just be there a minute but they assured us that they could find the problem in half hour so we waited. They had a kid's area with a table and wooden cars and trucks, little chairs, the whole shabang. They had a radio playing 91X, coffee, water and almond cookies (!) in the waiting room also. Very thoughtful. Without the kid's toys we would have spent the half hour chasing a toddler and counting the minutes. Fernando explained the problem and costs clearly, and got us our completed car by noon the next day. They are honest, professional and have almond cookies. We may have found our family mechanics. read more

First started going to Pacific Auto Service in 2001. My college car was on it's last legs and I wanted to hold on to it for another year. I researched through BBB and was amazed at the rave reviews it received. Not one complaint against PAS -- unheard of with an Auto Service Shop and BBB. The service was impeccable and the prices were reasonable. Olivier and his staff immediately won myself and my husband. 12 years later -- they have moved to a beautiful new campus. The seating is plentiful and quiet with wifi. I just recently had to get a new starter replaced. I opted to stay at the shop for the 2.5 hours and wait for my car to be fixed. I got more work done there than I do at home. I enjoyed watching the numerous customers come in and they all had a personal relationship with Olivier and Will. Many would bring their car in and than go for a run while Pacific Auto Service worked on their vehicle. Next time I come in to get my oil change -- I'll be bringing my running shoes to take advantage of the down time. It's the return customer that is the mark of a great mechanic! FYI: That college car ran beautifully for several more years and only parted with it after I traded it in for my first brand new car. read more

Honest, generous service. I stopped by at 5pm on a Friday because I was leaking coolant and needed to know what was wrong. I asked them if they could just take a look and let me know the problem, and that if the radiator was busted I would replace it myself. In ten minutes, they raised up the car, found the leak, explained to me that I would need to replace the radiator (knowing that this wouldn't earn them any money) and even filled my radiator and reserve tank with coolant so I could get home. All on a Friday afternoon! These guys are great. read more

Ok, so I sent out a BOLO on FB asking for suggestions on a good place to go that is reputable, honest, affordable & does timely, not shoddy service. After checking out the couple of references on Yelp, I stumbled upon Pacific Auto & took a chance. I'm VERY GLAD I did. Olivier (not Oliver) greeted me with a smile and a handshake and took my car without an appointment. After years and years of paying over $500 just to take any of our cars in, I was pleasantly surprised when he called me and described a broken engine mount... nothing more nothing less. My husband who is savvy with cars, but doesn't like to deal with modern cars cuz of their electronics suspected that. The car was ready that day and everything seemed fine. Now, I've read other reviewers that reduce the rating becuase... life happens and something else beyond the control of the business happens. That TICKS ME OFF, so do not misunderstand my review here because I had to bring the car back because the other 2 motor mounts broke. Did Pacific Auto do it? No.... it had happened because I had driven over shredded truck tires strewn across the freeway and that's what my husband suspected was what inadvertently broke the mounts when the rubber smacked them from underneath. I couldn't avoid the rubber as I was boxed in, but it wasn't Pacific Auto's fault that I had to come back. This is why I give them ENTHUSIASTIC 5 stars! Olivier took my call right away and he quickly took care of it. I was even given a discount for my trouble and both he and Fernando drove the car after the work was done to be certain my Mazda was purring like a kitten.
