If you have an 80 series stay far away from this place. I came in to get a diagnosis and this shop outright refused service for new 80s series LandCruiser owners. They stated due to "parts availability". If you are not apart of their little group of prevaricators then the gate remains closed. The service I needed did not even require new parts, I just wanted to have a diagnostic service. I have never experienced a shop refusing service for NEW customers just for being new. If there is a massive waitlist to get in then just be upfront and say so. I hope this shop one day can grow a bigger heart and accept business from new customers. read more

I would give 20 stars if I could. So SD trux worked on my 4runner for years until sadly it was stolen and went to Mexico. While I was looking for a used 4runner to fill the void, the stress, the headaches, making sure it wasn't a lemon.... SD trux was better than a therapist. When I was shopping around for TRD pro's SD trux let me bring it in and did additional inspections and noticed things that carmax didn't. I went back to car max and made em fix it. So much for 120 point inspection car max. Labor was involved. When done, the head of the shop said "Here's your estimate and bill - the car's ready." I looked and saw the repair charge was $0.00. No charge? But they actually spent a reasonable amount of time and trouble, and there is no way could I have done it myself. I have traveled from Oceanside to the garage for years because I trust them and work is reasonably priced. This past week I brought the truck in for work. It was finished same day. When I went to pick up the keys could not be found. It turns out they were mistakenly given to another customer. The error took about 45 min to straighten out and I was frustrated that traffic would be terrible. Before saying anything the owner, John, called the shop to speak to me. He apologized and told me the work would be complimentary!!!! This garage is not only trust worthy and reasonable but does great work AND cares about the customer experience. Spoke with John about my older Toyota Land Cruiser and an issue it was having that was preventing it from passing smog. The day after it was dropped off they sent me a comprehensive list of items they found (ranging from important - i.e. brakes - to issues that could wait, like a slow leak from the valve cover) and then went over each of the items by phone. Prices are fair - you can find less expensive shops - but their knowledge of Toyota products, especially my Land Cruiser is worth it. These guys were actually referred to me by another auto body shop that was booked for over a week. We were in desperate need of repair of our Lexus because it wouldn't start and we had our car towed here for evaluation and fix. So glad we did; John and Darrell were great. They were also booked but figured a way to fit us in. You can tell they know what they are talking about and, although, an initial worst case scenario was given before looking at the car, which gave me heart palpitations, I was pleasantly surprised that it was somewhat of a minor fix. Darrel also noted some other fairly minor things that needed adjustments like the battery placement which he ended up fixing. With the knowledge, attention to detail, no upsell with reasonable costs and the time out of the shop, we will be returning for future maintenance and repair. When I called AAA to have me towed, I told them they had to get me to SD Trux. After a 225 mile tow ride, my 4Runner was delivered to their very capable hands. That is how committed I am to this shop! They got my truck back up and running in a short amount of time for a very reasonable price. Fast forward to today. John and his crew are highly trained experts; needed a recently purchased FZJ80 inspected and it was very evident that they had the legacy knowledge of dealing with Toyota Landcruisers. Prior owners of the vehicle did some "TJ mechanic" fixes, which were readily identified and explained. If you regard your vehicle as an investment, SD Trux will treat your vehicle as such. I had a very satisfying customer service experience with John at San Diego Trux today. My Tacoma (I am the second owner) needed a transmission fluid drain and fill. I called and made an appointment for today and spoke with John the owner. When I arrived for my 8:30 appointment I drove around back and parked. There in front of me were two very purposely built Land Cruisers...a 100 Series and an FJ80. I was feeling good about this visit already. Things got better once I went inside and met with John. He took down my contact info, recorded a little vehicle history, and took my keys. Once my truck was up on the rack and drained of trans fluid, John confirmed that it was in fact very dark. (Sign of worn trans fluid). We chatted about Toyotas and maintenance schedules, which was a very informative discussion. I learned that I should drain and fill (NOT flush) my transmission every 30K miles. I also spoke to John about a timing belt service due in approximately 30K miles on my truck. He gave me the info for that service, and confirmed that the best route was to change the water pump and thermostat at that time as well. His quote for parts and labor for this service (using genuine Toyota parts of course) was right in line with my expectations. My service was completed in just over an hour (make an appointment folks!) and John explained that during their routine safety inspection his team uncovered a bad drivers side brake lamp, which they replaced for $2. A very nice touch to a great service experience here at San Diego Trux. Bottom line: John is a no bull/straight shooter when it comes to Toyota service. If you don't like that, shop elsewhere. I will definitely be back and feel that he and his crew went out of their way to establish credibility and trust during my simple service. Very clean, professional shop with one to one service. John, the owner, is friendly and helpful and I immediately felt I brought my car to the right place. Although their name signifies 'Trux', they performed outstanding work on my IS300 sedan. Besides fixing my radiator problem they also fixed my brake lights and made recommendations on my tire pressure at no extra charge. All the materials replaced were genuine Lexus parts and everything was put back to spec. I was also running a bit late to pick up my car at the end of the day and John said not worry, 'he won't leave me hanging' and waited for me.
