I've stopped by here the last few trips through LEX. The food is great, especially for an airport. Breakfast is the only meal I've tried, and all of them have been delicious! In addition to the regular menu, there is also a deli. The deli food choices are relatively pricy. But if you are flying Allegiant, this would be a great spot to pick up some snacks. If you like Crank and Boom ice cream, they do sell them at the Deli. This is open until the last outgoing flight, which means if you happen to get in after that, if you are flying out as one of the last flights, you won't get to enjoy their food. The bar area is open a bit longer though, so at least you get a drink or two! read more

If Dean is working... service is 5 stars... EVER time. If every server was like him, dining out would always be an amazing experience. The food is also good and fairly pried for an airport. Since this is a Kentucky airport, they have a great bourbon selection. The also have Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale, which happens to be my FAVORITE beer! Its a local brewery (Kentucky Ale) that will age the beer the bourbon barrels for several weeks. If you've never tried it - TRY IT! There are only two restaurant (and a Dunkin Donuts) in the airport, so its either this or Mexican. Food comes out quick and you can now get drinks (including alcohol) to go and drink in the terminal (can't take it on the plane). read more

I stopped by the Kentucky Ale Taproom to have a beer while waiting for my flight back to Jacksonville. I asked for the lightest beer they had on tap and I received the Kentucky Ale. It was and not too hoppy for my taste buds. I'd give the beer three out of five stars. The restaurant had a ton of seating which was good as I believe this is the only sit-down restaurant in this small airport. I saw some folks ordering food but I ate prior to being dropped off at the airport. The bartender was friendly and let me sample the beer before I purchased it. There was a television at the bar so I could watch the football game. There was also a power plug right below the bar in front of my seat. This was a nice touch! read more

Not bad for an airport restaurant! I visited with my priority pass so I got to enjoy $28 of free food. I got the wedge salad with chicken and I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. The chicken was tender roasted chicken and there was plenty of blue cheese dressing and bacon on the salad. The drink menu didn't have prices, so I asked how much the mile high tea cocktail was. I was a little ticked off that the waitress said "around $10" and when I got my bill it was in fact $14. Why not just put prices on the menu, it's not like this is some kind of fancy restaurant. Anyways, I'll definitely be back next time I fly the bluegrass. read more

All of my Kentucky experiences have been five star, from the airport to the racetrack to the restaurants. Two bars in the small Bluegrass airport, this one & a Mexican One. Great service & a variety of local Ale & bourbon of course. I had a glass of red wine & our server, Becca?, was quick & great. Highly recommend this place before your flight & there are lots of outlets for the extra needed charge on your phone or laptop. Shakespeare quoted on the wall, horses on the stool & table. I never review airport terminal restaurants although I average at least one a week. Maybe I'll start now and right here. The Taproom at Lexington Blue Grass Airport is one of very few places to grab a snack at this airport. Service is quick. Food pretty decent for a pre flight lunch. Typical selection of burgers and hand helds. Beet salad not a bad choice. "Fire kissed chicken sandwich" with chicken cutlet blackened just right satisfied my appetite and expectations. As soon as you arrive past security, the Kentucky Ale Taproom is right in front. My colleague and I arrived several hours before our flight so we had time to throw a few back. We found a high top as the place was quite busy. It appeared as though the bartender and another staffer were the only ones handling all the patrons. I had the Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale which is served in a goblet. My colleague had the tall Bacardi & Diet. Drinks are a bit pricey here which was to be expected. Other than the middle high tops, the ones on the perimeter looked to have many outlets for phone charging and for working with a laptop. Our service was very good once we were able to have our table cleaned and wiped down. While there is an airline club for all at the airport, I don't think they have the choice of drinks and food that the Taproom has. If you're a member of Priority Pass, you can get $28 per person off your total bill. Since I had this, it was a huge break. Great benefit of that membership. read more

I do like coming here and everyone is really nice. Good does take a long time, so not a great choice when in a hurry. I got the cheeseburger no bun with coke slaw. The cheeseburger tasted very bland. I loved the provolone cheese on top. The coleslaw looked yummy, but tasted like mayonnaise and slaw. It would have tasted good if maybe add a bit of sugar to it. This review is only related to the bar service as I did not eat any food. The taproom was nearly empty aside from a few people at the bar. This airport is small so it's unlikely you'll have a problem finding a seat. I was just looking at the menu before sitting down but was immediately greeted by a server. After sitting a the bar, service was quick and friendly. The bartender knew that I was interested in the game on tv so offered to turn on the volume without me asking. The beer selection is small but it's a good opportunity for a last chance at sampling some of the local beer or bourbon if you have time. read more

It's right outside security to your left. It's one of the only 3 places to eat in the airport. The bartender was a pretentious, pompous,condescending older man. He was patronizing and was awkward. I stopped into the Taproom just in time for breakfast hours. There appeared to be only two servers on the floor. Melanie directed me to a table and brought the menu. The breakfast fare is standard: a plate, a sandwich, an omelet, and some pastry items. I thought against a Bloody Mary (tempted for sure) and ordered orange juice. She brought a bottle from the fridge. I could also see coffee and tea alongside a decent bourbon selection (again, tempted, but nah). I ordered the breakfast egg sandwich with bacon and cheddar on wheat. It came with a side of hash browns. I'm not kidding; I inhaled it. The cook wasn't stingy with the bacon and it was perfectly cooked to keep its chewy consistency without being saturated in grease. The egg was cooked over hard and it held its shape and texture - no runny mess. I also liked that the toast was done to cook off the greasiness you can get if it's over-buttered. Like I said, wolfed it down and pounded the OJ. Melanie was very friendly. I suppose it helped that when I sat down there was only a couple of ladies sitting in front of me who looked like they were finishing up. She was apologetic about dropping off the check first (which seems to make sense if you're an airplane bar) and I enjoyed the small talk as she checked in on me. The sandwich and juice came to $12 - again, expected with airport food. But it's worth it. This is the first in a long time that I've had such a quick and satiating breakfast on the go. read more

This is the only restaurant that I know about in the Bluegrass Airport. I'm quite bias on this one, I must admit that upfront. So I'll keep it short. If you didn't get a chance to try Kentucky Ale Bourbon Barrel, or heck, even if you drank it during your entire stay in Lexington, make sure that you don't pass up this last opportunity to grab what the locals love. It's brewed locally by Alltech. If you're just getting to Lexington, I suggest that you stop by the actual brewery and check out a tour. I've eaten here once and it wasn't bad. They're never too busy, so they seem to make everything to order. read more

I'm a little torn. This is probably the best restaurant inside the airport, given that the airport is small. So compared to the other options, I give it a 4. However, the customer service was lacking the other day when I was there. Maybe it was morning time and people's friendliness for the day hasn't kicked in yet. They weren't rude by any means but just not giving the customers enough attention. I ordered the American Breakfast, 2 eggs any way you want it, toast, home fries, and option of a meat (I got bacon). The bacon, toast, and home fries were really good (fresh and crispy). The eggs were not bad but I've had better. The Kentucky Ale is a delicious beer option that I would recommend! They gave me the bill faced down half way through my meal, which I don't mind. When I was done eating and ready to head to my flight, I put my credit card down. Several minutes passed and no one came to pick it up, even though there was a server right there. BTW, I was sitting in the bar area. I thought maybe the receipt and credit card were not visible so I put it closer to my food. Still no one came. The customer next to me asked if they could change the channel to ESPN sports. They changed the channel and still they didn't pick up my receipt. Like, do I need to shove it in your face that when I put my credit card down, it means I'm ready to leave?? Sigh. Anyway, I ended up flagging down the lady because clearly she wasn't paying any attention to me and told her I was ready to go. I travel a lot, it is rare that I find an "airport restaurant" that I LOVE!!!!!! Anytime I have to fly into LEX I get soooooo excited because I know it means the Ale Taproom on my flight home! Blue Grass Airport is small, clean, and new, totally reminding me of my consulting days flying back and forth from Bentonville. We had an hour to kill and opted to spend it at the terminal bar. After a weekend chock full of bourbon, I hadn't had the opportunity to explore the very good beer scene in Lexington. Alas. I've had Kentucky Ale's Bourbon Barrel in Chicago a time or three, and really dig it. Here, I opted to try the darker stout, a very good concoction for this stout-loving guy. The wife went with the Kolsch, light and airy and perfect for her. Our waitress was very sweet, and ended up selling us (re: the wife) on a slice of derby pie. It's an unholy (re: delicious) concoction that's half chocolate chess, half pecan pie. Yes, it paired really well with the stout. I always love going local when it comes to beer, so it was nice to get in a taste at the airport before leaving. read more

I was bumped from a flight and had two hour delay so I figured I would grab a beer and snack so I could at least rate it. the place is larger than I would imagine for Lexington airport. it is extremely clean. the staff is very friendly. the bar is less than desirable. the lady beside me ordered three drinks they couldn't make before she said to just make her something. I on the other hand just ordered easy key ale stout and house chips. the house chips are good. the beer is perfect. I will come back here when stuck in this airport. read more

Kentucky Ale Taproom is alright. We had a drink here before a flight out, and the selection of liquors is pretty good. I know this is an airport bar, so it's not some esteemed bourbon bar or anything, but I would have liked to see some more options in that regard since this bar is a representation of Kentucky. That way people who are visiting Kentucky get to see more of a showcase of what our amazing state has to offer. The drinks are overpriced, as with any airport bar, so if you make a stop here expect that. They were really strong though, so that's a plus. However, the service was very slow. So slow that even though we went into this bar with plenty of time before our flight when we finally got our drinks we had to knock them back and rush to our terminal as they were boarding our flight. They weren't too busy on our visit either. So, keep that in mind if you want to grab a drink here before a flight. read more

Had to fly out of LEX to Buffalo last Tuesday for some family business on short notice. As always I get to the airport way too early. Breezed through Security so I had a few hours to kill. Hadn't been in the Taproom yet, so I took a seat and was promptly greeted by Lexanne. Very perky for 7 a.m. when my eyes are struggling to be open, but had nice conversation about my trip as she bounced between the few other guests. A few quick cups of decent local coffee and the very filling Lexington Breakfast (3 egg omelet and nicely crisped bacon) and I was ready for my trip. The food was good and reasonably priced for airport fare. The service was very good and the company was appreciated while I killed time before my flight. read more

Had mediocre expectations my first time in this airport and restaurant. Blown away with the service, food, and drink. Server was spot on with his recommendation for a burger. Got the Cure burger. Surprised he asked how I wanted it cooked, can't find that everywhere. Burger was cooked to perfection medium rare per my request. Side of fries were cooked perfectly when I expected some double fried rejects for earlier. Server recommended a local light beer and it was on point for a non beer drinker. When it's finally time to go home you get to the gate and find that your flight is delayed indefinitely. Now what the hell do you do? Simple. Blanton's. Neat. I'm not typically one to hit up the airport bar. Getting too drunk and missing my flight is an enormous and very real fear of mine. With a few hours to kill I decided an exception was in order. KAT offers the beers brewed by Alltech, their Town Branch label of bourbon and a small but solid selection of other spirits. If I recall correctly they were pouring Blanton's, Four Roses Small Batch and Single Barrel, Woodford Reserve and a few others. the bartender was cool, but knew well enough to leave a hungover degenerate such as myself alone. You can order food or something, which I did not do because I have no idea what a Hot Brown is but it doesn't sound like something I want to eat. In the end I stumbled back to my gate in a much better mood than when I left it. read more

This is a bar in an airport so you'd expect speedy service -- especially when it is mostly empty. Not here! After sitting for 10 minutes, I had to get up from my table and grab a waiter to order a beer. Ten minutes later, I had to walk to the bar to get the beer. The bartender mentioned it to the waiter and he laughed. Later, I asked for food that would take no longer than 25 minutes. Waitress said Chicken fingers. I ordered them tossed and got them dry 35 minutes later. Worse service ever!! read more

While flying back home on a Sunday afternoon, our flight had a medical emergency and had to make an emergency landing at Lexington airport. This is a very small airport and was not used to the size of our plane. Due to the medical issue, all the passengers had to deboard and we had to wait several hours for United to deal with the issue. The airport has two options for dining: Dunkin Donuts and Kentucky Ale Taproom and it appeared the entire plane choose Taproom. And while they were totally understaffed, the Taproom employees handled everything perfectly. They were super nice and did an amazing job of taking care of all of us. My partner and I enjoyed our meals and Kentucky Amber beers. Sometimes it's not the food that makes a place great. It's the staff. Great job! read more

Wonderful friendly bar and restaurant with good food. I got the American Breakfast which is delicious: eggs your way, choice of meat, hash browns & toast. Great Fresh coffee and attentive friendly service. It's also on the other side of security near the combined Airline Club. Skip your hotel breakfast when flying on a morning flight or grab a drink and meal for a later flight. read more

Visited Kentucky Ale Taproom while waiting for our return flight at Blue Grass Lexington airport. It's located pass security in terminal B. I used Priority pass membership and since I was traveling with my spouse, we had $56 in credit to spend at the restaurant. We ordered two old fashioned and to go salads and sandwiches. Staff at this restaurant were extremely friendly, it must be Kentuckians in general. Everyone was just wonderful. Priority pass members should stop at this location, they have to go sandwiches and yummy salads, ice cream, snacks, fresh fruit, assorted drinks and juices and a full bar. I recommend this place as it's a nice addition in a airport that doesn't have other Priority pass lounges. read more

I tried this place out while waiting to board my plane. I had the Kentucky Ale. This was my first visit to Lexington and I enjoyed it very much. The staff here were fine. On this particular day, they were very short staffed. I applaud them for doing the best they could with what they had (they didn't have fries!!) Beer was good and reasonably priced. This is a nice spot to stop if you've got extra time before your flight at Bluegrass airport. When I visited they were having a deal, your second bourbon pour was half price (after the first). So I got a double of 1792 and relaxed before my flight out. The great thing is at the bar they have outlets every couple of chairs, so it's also a great opportunity to charge your devices before your flights. read more

After my flight was delayed I decided to grab a bite to eat. I choose fried green tomatoes and coffee. The coffee was blistering hot. I sipped on it for a couple hours and it never seemed to get cold! The fried green tomatoes were over breaded and hid any tomato taste. The sauce on the tomatoes was good with a little kick, but over utilized and I found myself scraping most of it off to the side. Overall, I was not impressed. The service was what I expected from an airport restaurant - nothing fast or timely. Ask for your check when you get your food so you are not left waiting. The decor is nice and the eating area was quiet while I was there. Probably one of the best sit down options, but let's face it, stellar airport eateries are hard to come by. read more
