Fraud. Went and after tip our bill was $82. Got a low balance email and see they charged $1200. Called and they said they'd look into it, this overdrafted out account aka penalties. They called us back and said they'd didn't have that charge. Will be contacting the bank and FBI tomorrow. read more

This place came highly recommended from my instructor, went into the bar area first and the bar tender was nice enough to let me know where the restaurant was. Walked in and was seated immediately. My server was Katie, restaurant was SLAMMED busy, several large parties and just Katie! but still excellent service and my favorite meal in my entire visit to Kentucky! I ordered way to much food, pretzel was amazing (and ended up being a snack later in my hotel room) I even liked the brown mustard not usually a fan I also got the currywurst which came with two sides and a couple of Hefeweizens to wash it all down. If I was with some friends we would've spent more time next door on that overwhelming beer selection. A bit difficult to describe this place, so best thing to do is to just try it out for yourself. Incredibly spacious spot but with a cozy feel. Plenty of open seating for groups small or large. The selection of drinks is incredibly expansive and reasonably priced with great service. There are some classic bar games throughout, like darts, skee-ball, and then some more uncommon ones like the 3 full size sand volleyball courts inside. First thing to note is there are two sides, one is a restaurant and another is a bar with games and volleyball courts. We opted to sit on the restaurant side and were impressed with the beer list, it's huge! We ordered a couple drinks and all ordered food. It arrived quickly and was so so good. This place is the neighborhood spot! If you like beer from around the world...this place is your spot. I was craving German food and came here because I've seen this place many times but only recently stopped by. It is within walking distance from my house and conveniently located in Southland Dr. next to the Co-Op grocery store--plenty of parking sites around the area. When you enter the establishment, it is spacious! Like wow! The staffs are knowledgeable and super friendly. I don't even know how to begin to describe this place. First off it's half restaurant and half bar though they're separated but still in the same building. We ate at the bar side, they have delicious pizza, sandwiches such as fish sandwiches and burgers, as well as traditional German food. If that's not wild enough for you they also have indoor and outdoor beach volleyball fields setup. The pizza is solid for bar food as well as their fish sandwiches. This has become my new favorite hangout!! My bartender, Jamie, was a great gal to talk to! It was the first time me and my friends had been there and when the place has over 100 options for all kinds of different types of beer, you can easily be led astray; but she made sure that wasn't the case! I'm not a huge fan of beer, but definitely wasn't against trying a new drink! Jamie recommended the Cutwater Tequila Margarita, which honestly tasted like an actual margarita but in a can! The pizza was honestly the best pizza I had in a while and I'm so looking forward to having it again one day! Stopped by the other night. The place was pretty much empty which should have been our first clue. Having lived in areas with much larger German heritage populations, they would consider this "German" restaurant a joke. All the food was luke warm and nothing had any flavor. The gravy was store bought brown gravy mix. The sausages seemed like they were microwaved. The menu prices don't reflect what they actually charge you. Food Fun Adventure Saturday took Fat Man Reviews to Marikka's Restaurant & Bier Stube in Lexington, KY. Marikka's offer authentic German fare with a global beer menu and beach volleyball. I started with a Stiegl Grapefruit Radler. This beer was light and fruity, but the grapefruit was not overwhelming. The beer is pretty sour but in a refreshing way. We sampled the Potato Pancake with applesauce and optional sour cream. The potatoes were cooked to a nice golden brown and just slightly greasy. The taste was a bit bland and lacking salt but the chew had some crunch. The sour cream offered something to cut through the density of the potato while the applesauce was a little underwhelming as it tasted like it came from a jar. My fiancé had the Jagerschnitzel, pan fried breaded pork in a mushroom gravy, with Sauerkraut and Hausgemachte Kartoffelbrei(cold potato salad). The pork was cooked well and there was a lot of gravy, but again both were lacking in seasoning. The sauerkraut was tasty and we both enjoyed it. The potato salad was a bit bland as well and looked and tasted a little like mustard potato salad from any store. I ordered the Rahmschnitzel, pan fried breaded veal in a cream sauce, with Rotkraut(red cabbage) and Hausgemachte Spatzle(German Noodles) and gravy. The veal was cooked to a nice golden brown, and it was very tender. The sauce was very creamy with a tang that I cannot actually place, but it was nice. Together they were pretty good, but the veal actually needed more salt and pepper for my taste. The cabbage was sweet with a heavy vinegar taste, which I really enjoyed. The noodles were buttery and chewy, a bit doughy, but the taste was pretty good. The gravy was a brown gravy made from bacon, and it added a nice meaty flavor to the dish. Marikka's Restaurant & Bier Stube's beer list is large, and the menu has lots of German offerings from beef to chicken and even sausages. The service was great and everyone was friendly. The Fat Man says that Marikka's Restaurant & Bier Stube is Fat Man Approved. read more

Very cool place. Lots of volleyball going outside, inside it's a giant Bier Hall. Very extensive craft beer list, VERY EXTENSIVE. Absolutely something for everyone here. Great place to grab a beer and German food! Food is delicious. The one side is a bar, the other is a restaurant. Same food both sides I am told but depends on what setting you prefer. They have sand volleyball courts and lots of bar games to play- darts, pool, etc. they have a very diverse bar menu and quick service. Great for a Friday or Saturday night out. I love German food so when my friend wanted to come here for her birthday I was more than excited. There are 2 areas; one being the actual restaurant and the other a bar area with darts and sand volleyball. It was really crowded so we were not able to play either. Their re-election of beer is huge so there is something for everyone. We tried the pretzel with beer cheese and it was massive. It came in a pizza box so it's easy to share with a group of people. I also tried the spatzle which was great. The prices are very reasonable. The pretzel was 13 dollars and the spatzle was around 3 dollars. I see why this place is very popular and draws a big crowd. Marikka's is a cool hangout spot. But jeez, it gets packed!! We were there on a Saturday night around 7 p.m., I don't even want to imagine how it gets after 9! Needless to say though, it's popular for a reason. It's huge, has great food, and tons of things to do like darts, indoor/outdoor volleyball, cornhole, etc. I would imagine Marikka's being a better place to hang out during warm weather. There's a huge outdoor patio so I'm sure it helps with the crowd inside. They've got all kinds of goodies on their menu, I only tried the loaded fries and they were really good! This place is awesome! Although I'm from the Lexington area, not living near there for years I'm not up to par on the newly renovated locations. I met up with some family there and had a blast! It's incredibly spacious, a giant bar with endless offerings of drinks, and a really awesome volleyball court setup! Seemed to have a large patio and outdoor volleyball too, but it was a bit too cold for that this round. Recently had my first Marikka's experience! They have a huge selection of beers on draft and an even bigger selection of bottles and cans. There's plenty of seating on both the restaurant and bar sides. It's really nice to have the sides split up to accommodate different experiences. You can also order food from both sides, so you can nibble while you drink or play volleyball. The pretzels are HUGE and the bratwursts taste authentic. I will definitely be back to explore the menu further! read more

I really, really want to love this place because it has some pretty great offerings (the wurst was really tasty), but I just can't because a German restaurant should be able to make schnitzel correctly, and they just don't. The first time I thought it might just be an off night, so we tried it again on a Saturday evening. The place was almost completely empty and no hostess was to be seen, so we stood there rather awkwardly for about 10 minutes waiting for someone to notice us. Once seated the server was super pleasant and upbeat which was nice. I had the jägerschnitzel and spätzle with gravy on the side which were solidly meh. The meat wasn't golden brown or crispy and had no real flavor, it desperately needed salt at the very least (this is coming from someone who is more inclined to complain about too much salt when others are happy with the amounts). The gravy itself almost had good flavor, but was ruined by the tinny metallic flavor of canned mushrooms rather than having the umami of fresh. I was also disappointed to be charged $2 more than the advertised menu price, though it wasn't really worth commenting to ($18.99 vs $16.99) I was super hopeful that the second visit would be better, but unless things change I'm not likely to be back unless someone else just really wants to go there; it's just not worth the disappointment of lackluster food when I remember vividly how wonderfully crisp and flavorful authentic versions are. read more

Overall, I like the place, with a few caveats. I love their beer selection, particularly their bottles. Great options for harder-to-find German beers, and an absolutely huge selection overall. It's nice to have an option for German food in town too. The warm potato salad is awesome, and the kraut has always been flavorful. Sausages have never disappointed either, though the schweinebraten has occasionally been a bit dry. My two caveats: (1) the bar side is rarely super busy during dinner hours (I've heard it picks up at night), so I'm not sure why there is no table service; and (2) a German bar needs German glassware. I don't want a Country Boy pint glass for my Hefeweizen, and I certainly don't want a plastic glass either. Every German bar I've ever been to has the appropriate glassware for the particular style. What gives, Marikka's? You'd earn my extra star with that one simple fix -- I'm happy to let the table service part go! read more

What a fun place! We were visiting our daughter in college, and we wanted to go somewhere where we could drink, eat, and watch college football. This place was perfect. There are so many other fun things to do too! Beach volleyball inside and out, pool, air hockey, darts. They have a huge selection of bottled beers, but we got the draft beers, which was very impressive as well. We enjoyed the Lexington Brewing Mammoth, the Double Chocolate Stout, and the Eagle Banana Bread. We were very hungry, so we started with the Giant Pretzel. On my! It was huge and is served in a pizza box! It comes with mustard and we paid $4 more for the beer cheese. You definitely have to have beer cheese with a pretzel! It was crispy on the outside and soft in the middle and was delicious! For our entrees, our daughter got the vegetable plate, which comes with 3 sides, my husband got the curry sausage with red cabbage and Spätzle, and I got the Swiss cheese knackers sausage with fries. The portions are huge and everything was delicious. We were all stuffed, so no room for dessert. We will definitely be back! read more

This is my 2nd trip here. We went a retirement dinner last night & I was really impressed with everyone who worked there. They had rented the private room upstairs, We was well taken care of. The "new & improved" Marikka's is huuuuuuuge compared to the OG Marrikka's - & in this case I'd say bigger is better. The space as previously mentioned is huge and open. There are a variety of short and tall tables with chairs and stools. Lots of TVs broadcasting a mix of sports games. You order your beers at the bar which is also large. There is an extensive beer & drinks menu to choose from. You can order food as well which is brought out to your table when ready. There are a ton of indoor & outdoor volleyball courts that I can't vouch for- as my volleyball skills haven't progressed since I was on the "B" team in middle school- but they always seem to be busy whenever I've been! Marikka's is a great place to meet friends for drinks or for a game- I've heard rumors that they are opening a location in Cincinnati as well! read more

This is a random place that I went to with friends to watch people play beach volleyball. I don't play but it was fun seeing people get pretty competitive. It was summer, so most people were not inside. I got myself a gluten free beer just to try and it was interesting. Not my favorite but glad they have this option. Take my advice and ask for a complimentary basket of the rye bread. It has the look and texture of a soft white bread, but don't be fooled because it's got a bold rye flavor that awakens the taste buds! It's all about using rye flour as there are no seeds. The wienerschnitzel dinner is one of my favorites. It's a pan-fried tender veal cutlet and with two sides of your choosing. The red cabbage is a great balance between sweet and sour. You can get a warm or cold potato salad, but I prefer the warm version. It must be the German in me! It's vinegar-based, chunky, and seasoned with dill, scallions, and little bits of bacon. The portions are huge, so I usually take home some leftovers. Let's talk about that beer list. It's more like a booklet with pages and pages of beers! Got questions? This place is nothing short of marvelous. They seem to have every beer ever brewed, either on tap or in bottes/cans. The german food is phenomenal. And the bar staff is among the best I have ever encountered. Not only are they uniformly adorable, they are superbly helpful and knowledgeable about the vast array of beers at their disposal. I have been wanting to eat here for quite some time. I am happy I finally went! We had amazing service and the food was really great. The sausages come from Germany and were delicious. Sides are all made from scratch in house. Would have been a real treat to have homemade strudel for dessert. But they didn't have that. My mom had sauerbraten and she did not care for it. She said it's supposed to be in a sauce, it there's did not have any sauce on it. So she was disappointed. But otherwise it was really good and a great experience. read more
